External HD not showing up on my new Macbook Air but works on iMAC

Hi,
I am struggling to get my new Air book 11" to work with my external drive. it is visible on my iMac but does not show up at all on my Air Book. Can some one advice? I have done all possible options including resets, reformat, preference check etc... but still invain. Please help? all other USB drives work normal.

have you tried plugging the hard drive into a different usb drive. i mean you never know.

You should be able to get an adapter that will change the Thunderbolt out to a DVI or HDMI out, and connect that to an external monitor. I am not sure what connection your iMac screen has, or if it even HAS input capability. I know that the 27' iMac BEFORE it was given the Thunderbolt ports had MiniDP input. If your iMac is any older than that one, I am not sure. But the adapter should allow you to output to any DVI or HDMI display, depending on which adapter you get.

Hello, If you are dealing with one of the really thin iMac's that have no superdrive, then the superdrive icon should not appear on the desktop when you plug it in, but when you put in a disk (CD, DVD, etc.) that should appear. If you go into disk utility, and look at superdrive, that should be clickable and not grayed out when you have it plugged in. If this does not show up in disk utility, go to Apple, and ask to speak to their supervisor, speaking to a customer service agent is like talking to a potato, nothing gets done. Good Luck!

About the only thing you can try is using the Online Internet Recovery system to reinstall Lion on your Mac over the top of the current install. that will reset all system files and should not touch your personal files or the apps you have installed.
Or iof you have a recent Time Machine backup use that to restore your Mac to that point in time.

I need some tips on transfering my LARGE itunes account from a pc external hardrive to time capsule for my new Macbook Air

I just purchased a Macbook Air that is being shipped as I type, What I am trying to do is swap all the info on my external hard drive that was used for my old pc ( includes pictures, music and very Large iTunes account ) to a 2Tb time capsule that I purchased to use to store all my info for the new Macbook Air that is coming, without downloading it to the Macbook Air first. Im not sure if its even possible to do but any help is greatly appreciated. This is my first Mac and I just want to make this transfer smooth and fast. Also looking to make all future purchases from iTunes go directly to time capsule.

i think you will need to use a computer somewhere in the process
you could try putting Mac OS on the hard drive with the files on, and then booting from the hard drive

Camera does not show up when connected to Macbook Air

I'm connecting my Sony NEX-F3 to my new Macbook Air for the first time.
When connected via USB the screen on the camera says to 'Check the connected device'. On my old Macbook the camera would autmotically appear on my desktop however this one is not responding at all. I have checked Disk Utility & Finder to see if it has appeared there instead but no luck, any advice?

This is a new computer? Why not take it to an Apple store and have the techs there work on it. I would take the camera and hard drive along so they see exactly what you see.

Husband bought me a new Macbook Air but everything on the computer is in his name even though I'm signed w/ my Apple ID

My husband bought a new Macbook Air from Best Buy for me as a gift. While everything is great, I am having an issue with everything being under his name. I've linked it to my Apple ID and signed into my iCloud but whenever I turn on the MBA and login his name appears. Same with emails. Whenever I send an email from my account, his name appears in the name section. I tried replacing his name with mine but it just keeps coming back.
He thinks that since he used his Best Buy rewards card, they somehow registered the laptop under his name though I'm not sure if this is possible, or why they'd even do that in situations like this where the MBA is a gift for someone else.
I'd appreciate any help.

Ok, then do the same thing as before, EXCEPT do not click accounts, but click preferences under "messages". Then click accounts and disable the one you don't want.

I brought a new macbook air, but to my despair my friend touched the screen as soon as I opened it. Now, since it is brabd new I am very obsessed with the finger mark. I did clean it with soft cloth, but still I see the marks. Can any 1 suggest?

Trying to use my home sharing on new macbook air, but I physically can't drag the songs into my music. What do I need to do to change this?

Basically, I've set up my home sharing between my macbook air, and our mac mini at home. The home sharing option shows up on both computars, and the music is visable and available to listen to when I bring it up on home sharing from the mac mini, but when I try to actually drag the music over to my music on my macbook. Both of our itunes are completely up to date. Is there any way to fix this?

If your mac uses Mountain Lion (10.8), then you need to look at the new Notes program. This is not a feature of Lion (10.7) as I recall, and IIRC, you need to find notes in mail.
Also be sure Notes is turned on in Settings>icloud, and System preferences>icloud.

AOL mail will not work on MacBook Pro, but works on iMac

My wife has attempted to check her aol mail account online, through Safari, and every message that she opens appears as "garbage." I recently installed Snow Leopard on both of our computers. AOL mail works on my iMac, but not her Macbook Pro. Honestly, among other issues, I'm a little disappointed with Snow Leopard. Leopard was released without problems for either of us.
