External HD nowhere to be seen.

Hello,
I hope someone really could help me out in here.
Finder froze while my external HD was plugged in, I shut down finder and then opened it again hoping that it would run smoothly, noticing that it did not help... I then turned my Mac off (while the external HD was still in).
Next thing I notice is that Finder runs perfectly but my External HD is untraceable....?! I already went to an Apple store and called with Apple care but there they say they can not help me and said that I have to fix it via a third party. Not so looking forward in doing that so therefore I really hope someone could help me out here in order to get my ''backed up'' data back. (I only used the External HD on my mac, it is a Seagate GoFlex 1tb).

Very high likelihood its SATA card failure, a very common issue in external HD

I am trying to help my mother build her iTunes library. I want to transfer files from my iTunes to hers. I have tried HomeSharing, but the "Show/Import" menu buttons are nowhere to be seen on either of our computers. We have PCs, not MacBooks.

How in the **** am I supposed to share my files if I can't import them to her library for her? I have seen many solutions for people using iTunes on a MacBook, but we don't have MacBooks in our house. I have a Samsung laptop and Mom has a Gateway laptop, and both operate on Windows 7. Seriously. This should not be impossible, but right now, it seems that way. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Will iTunes allow me to do this? I'm not really all that familiar with Windows computers. I have recently had to move to a PC because my $3000 macBook Pro died one month after the warranty was up. How could I get iTunes to accept media from another computer?

Can you find it using the Spotlight search on the iPod? Maybe you just can't find it.
Also try resetting the iPod. Nothing is lost.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

Calendars are nowhere to be seen

Recently noticed that when I start iCal, no events show up, and no calendars are visible. If I flip to day planner view (default at start is month view), events show up, and they are still visible even when I switch back to month view. But the calendars remain nowhere to be seen.
It also appears to be interfering with my ability to sync with my Palm TX
I saw a similar problem posted earlier, but apparently it went away when they rebooted. I've done so several times, no luck.

From what I can see, I cannot just reinstall iCal using the install disc- Looking at the custom install, there is no option ofr iCal, or even something that looks like just iCal...
Did you try the installation options outlined in Custom installs in Mac OS X 10.4?
Be sure that you follow the procedures listed in...More custom reinstallation options with Mac OS X 10.4. You must check [✓] the Applications box and click on the ▶ disclosure triangle next to Applications to choose iCal.
After you reinstall iCal, you should use the Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo Update (PPC) to bring iCal up to the most recent version.

If you mean the iMac does not have an internal optical drive capable of reading DVDs, the only option requires another Mac with a DVD-capable drive and FireWire ports. Your iMac G3 will also require FireWire ports. Not all G3 iMacs have Firewire. FW started with the Summer 2000 models with 400mHz and faster processors.
With FireWire, you can use FireWire Target Disk mode to install from a retail OS install DVD in another Mac. If you supplemental info info tells us if you have another Mac with a DVD reader and the FW ports, we can walk you through the process.
If the iMac has a tray-loading drive, I'd forget it. They are very limited not only in the OS max (10.3.9) but also in RAM capability. Starting with the slot-loading iMac G3s, the max RAM increased to 1 GB (2 X 512MB modlules). Tiger likes 1GB RAM.
Understand that pre-Intel Macs are getting harder to use. Even with 10.4.11, your choice of browsers is limited (TenFourFox is the most viable option) and the G3s rudimentary video hardware means web browsing will be choppy at best.
If you are in the USA, you can try calling the Apple Store (1-800-MY-APPLE) for an OS disk. As recently as Jan 20, someone posted here that they were able to buy Tiger by calling. It was not clear whether the disks were replacement system install/restore disks or full retail install, but it's a free call.
When you do "About this Mac" to check teh OS verion, also look at the processor speed and tell us what that says. That can help with recommendations for an upgrade path.

Time machine backup on external firewire drive is not seen by restore or migration assistant

today the harddrive on my Aluminium iMac gave up the ghost. I have been backing up my system using time machine, so I wished to restore it. To my great annoyance I found that neither the restore option in Lion's installer nor the migration assistant after install allows me to select that drive!!!
I have checked the drive, it's ok. I connected it to another Mac, it can read it just fine. Why the **** is it not appearing in the list of available backups?!

I do however have two other drives one 500 gb and one 750 gb without external power supply and they both work perfectly on my time capsule "plug and play" like it is supposed to, funny enough one of these drives do have the partition master scheme as master boot record even as I have seen several discussions where it is stated this would not work. on these new drives I have tried with the three different partition master schemes I have tried with mac OS extended formatting as well as FAT 32 formatting, I even formatted the drives on a windows machine to see. but it still do not appear when it is connected to my time capsule. Before my time capsule get the blame for this I have to add that I have tried on two other time capsules - though in other environments - with the same result.
so please any new idea is very appreciated.

Toshiba external hard drive is not seen by my time capsule

I am trying to connect an external hard drive to my time capsule, I am doing this with other hard drives and it work perfectly, but I just got a toshiba 1,5 tb drive with external power supply and my time capsule simply ignore it, it is not shown in the disk part of the airport setup screen, if I connect one of my other external drives it does show both in finder and in the airport set up screen.
I have tried to format the drive in all the different ways I could, as I read that if the partition map scheme is master boot record it may have problems, and if the drive is not formatted as either fat32 or mac OS extended it will not show. no matter what I am doing it still is not picked up by the time capsule when I plug it in.
it work perfectly if I plug it directly into my macbook. I have truly run out of ideas. I actually have two identical toshiba drives so I tried the other one to be sure it was no a problem on the first drive, but it act in the exact same manner. I tried to look at some of the hidden files, but not being a computer expert it did not make much sence to me.

All external hard drives not being seen after working for months

I have a 27" iMac, 10.7.2.
This morning I had 4 external hard drives attached via a powered hub, 2 x 2TB and 2 x1TB (all Freecom) formatted as MAC OS extended Journaled, one acting as the time machine backup.
All were working and being recognised/seen on the desktop and finder and working normally. I shut down the system and moved the machine to a new office made all the same connections, but now none of the drives are available, they are not even visible on the desktop.
I have tried them directly connected to the usb ports with no luck, I have tried rebooting in safe mode and reset both SMC and PRAM (after looking at various threads)
I have also tried a USB stick which also does not appear on the desktop (or anywhere else), all other peripherals work with the USB ports.
This is a real problem as there is almost 4 terabytes of material and four years work!, any suggestions would be greatfully received.

You mentioned you did a SMC reset, because different models of Mac's have different procedures for doing a SMC reset you may have done it incorrectly meaning you didn't do one at all! Did you do it like this?

Did you test your external hd in another machine? did you test with another cable?
I don't know if its helps, but try to reset the PRAM.

Snow Leopard upgrade - now iomega external hard drive cant be seen

I've been using an Iomega External Hard Drive (RPHD-C) to run Time Machine as my back-up. Upgraded to Snow Leopard yesterday and - no external Hard Drive. Doesnt show in Disk Utility. Any ideas?

Disconnect the disk and power it down for a few minutes, then reconnect, see if Disk Utility recognizes it.
If no help, disconnect again, and Restart your Mac, then reconnect the drive.
If it's connected via USB, try FireWire; or vice-versa.
If still no help, try different ports, cables, and combinations of the two (sometimes a plug that works fine in one port won't make good contact in a different one).

How can I get by external hard drive to be seen by other computers on the Airport Extreme Network

I purchased and installed an Airport Extreme yesterday. I finally got my computers to find it, but I cannot get my wireless laptop to connect to the external hard drive that is connected to the AE using a Cat5 cable. I have already verified that the Cat5 cable IS good so please don't advise me to change the cable. I am 36 hours into my purchase of the AE and ready to take it back to the store because it is NO WHERE as good as the sales rep reported it to be.

An ethernet connected drive is actually not part of the AE setup.
It is merely a client on the network.
So the first chore is to find it.

What OS is on the computer that is having access difficulty?
Can you please ping the hard disk.. on a Mac open the terminal and type ping followed by the address.
Or on a PC open the windows command and type the same thing.
Does the hard disk respond to ping?
Try mounting it directly in Mac by using Finder, go, connect to server.

Boot drive failed; external backup drive not being seen

I've had a Windows Server 2012 Essentials machine (6 drives + 1 external USB 3TB dedicated backup) running fine for over a year now. The system backup was configured through the Essentials Dashboard, the backup drive was found automatically by
Windows without any custom drivers, and was successfully backing up as scheduled. A few days ago, the server rebooted for an update, and started blue-screening early on during the boot. Using the install media, I went to the restore facility, but
the dedicated external USB backup drive isn't being found (the restore list is empty). I tried using other USB ports (they all work, as tested with the keyboard), but the backups on it still aren't showing. Moving the backup drive to a nearby Windows
8.1 machine, it shows up correctly in the Disk Manager (the name is correct; no drive letter assigned, as expected). From the system-recovery command-line on the server, wbadmin get drives show it, but as [not mounted].
What should my next steps be? Is it safe to mount it to a drive letter on the Windows 8.1 machine and share it out, or will that irreparably damage the backups? Is there something obvious I'm missing? Why isn't the Windows Server 2012 Essentials
install media's repair functionality finding it (this should be a no-brainer, right?)?
The drive in question is a Seagate model SRD00F2.

1. What updates has been installed. See info in WindowsUpdate.log.
2. Hope you has not installed optional drivers. It this is true try to return back or reinstall drivers from server vendor support page (perhaps support for USB 3)
3. What do Event lods and Device Manager say?

The reboot was overnight (about 4am) on Sunday, 2014-04-13. It was for the latest updates from Microsoft at that time (so the prior Tuesday's batch; see below for the details from WindowsUpdate.log).
No optional drivers installed, other than the motherboard ones at initial system load. They've been running great for a year or so now. They weren't part of the update.
Not possible to check. Trying to boot into safe mode also blue screens fairly early on during boot (about 15-20 seconds; same error). Boot logging never generates a log because it doesn't get far enough to dump to disk.

Green drives are iffy but useful for backups, which are what most 3GB drives are today.
For general use you want enterprise non-Green models like WD Black. Or Hitachi has $400 4TB.
And it is the external case, not the drive, that is the issue - and mostly with your name brand LaCie, Seagate, even WD models.
If the case has drive that you can take out and move into your Mac Pro fine.
http://www.macsales.com/firewire should not present any problem - made for Macs.
Some times formatting isn't enough, it would show as 800GB or 2.2TB rather than 2.8TB or full size.
