External HD to Share projects

I have been doing some video/dvd projects for someone and will be doing more. What I want to be able to do is to save the iMovie HD-6 projects to an external HD to give to him for future use and possible future editing. He currently dosent have a Mac but plans to in the future.
My question is this: What would be a decent drive to house these projects? (I would need approx 100gb) And how should I format it given that I dont know what mac system he may get?
Speed is not necessary as it will be for storage and not to work from.

You should format the drive +Mac OS Extended(Journaled)+ because if you were to format for Windows you cannot write to NTFS+ and FAT32 has a 4GB maximum file size limit.
OWC Mercury Elite drives are great and even though you are only using for storage you may want to get a Firewire 800 in case you want the better performance in the future: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/external/elite-al-pro-quad

  • Sharing managed media between editors - using FCX lib backups to share projects

    Okay, here is my problem...
    I started a huge FCX project, hours and hours of XDCAM footage imported and a number of projects created. I imported using managed media option and share with another editor, so we have two complete and separate FCX suites going (with identical media/video clip folders)
    Problem is, when he finishes a cut or a project and wants to give it to me to do further work -- there is not way in FCX 10.1.3 to export a project over to me without also exporting the associated media clips. THAT MEANS A 3 HOUR EXPORT, as FCX is sending the 1-hr project plus all the huge media files dealing with that project. Do this a few times a day and you can see the issue.
    If I used external media to begin with, the problem would be solved but I didn't as FCX documentation makes it seem as exporting and sharing projects is with managed media easy (managed is the import method Apple seems to prefer).
    WELL IT'S NOT EASY SHARING USING MANAGED MEDIA. There is no option as far as I can see, to export  a project to someone and have them re-link the media on their own system (export with no associated media). I think several versions of FCX ago, you were able to do this.
    So, this makes sharing and exporting projects between two editors even when they are using the same identical media folder on their own individual drives not practical!
    Is there a way around this?
    I'm wondering if I can use the FCX backups as a way to share projects?
    I DON'T WANT TO CONSOLIDATE MY MEDIA, it would take a week.
    Any help appreciated.
    Moe

    Okay, I'll give is a shot.
    I tried consolidating a week ago and FCX started doing stuff for like 5 minutes and I stopped the process. Maybe I need to give it a bit more time if it's creating links to all the media. I thought it would somehow move the media, but if it's just generating links that's great and I might have stopped it just before it actually finished the job.
    I'll try it.
    Thanks.

  • Opening an External Window which shares the same context.

    Hi,
    I have a requirement where <b>I need to open an external window which shares the same context</b>. (i.e, A window which belongs to the same application in a seperate browser)
    If I use the following coding <b>it only opens a model window in the same browser</b>.
    IWDWindowInfo winInfo = wdComponentAPI.getComponentInfo().findInWindows("NewWindow");
    IWDWindow window = wdComponentAPI.getWindowManager().createWindow(winInfo,false);
    But if I use wdComponentAPI.getWindowManager().CreateExternalWindow() <b>it could only accept the URL that opens a seperate application with different context</b>.
    Please help me in this regard.

    Hi Anbu,
    Dont feel bad that i am asking you more questions than giving you answers.
    if you just want to show content or let the user enter data or something you can use always popup modal/non modal window.
    External window is used to refer to other website or other applications in otherwords referring other url.
    So your workaround would be relaxing your requirement and redesign your application.
    This is my view point.Probably some other expert sdn'ers might have better one you know.
    Success !!
    BTW- if you decided to follow nagarajan suggession then you have to use URL generator to generate the URL.Using static URL is depreciated and also wont work in your Customer places.

  • Deployment: Deploying external libraries from dependent projects

    Hi,
    i need some help for the following issue.
    How do I deploy external libraries from dependent projects? I have one project for the model layer which references TopLink JPA library and an other project for view/controller based on JSF/ADF Faces. The view/controller project has the model project as dependency.
    For the view/controller project i have created a WAR deployment profile. On deployment all classes and referenced libraries from view/controller project and all classes from model project were included. But not the referenced library for TopLink JPA.
    My second approach was to create a JAR deployment profile for the model project. Again the referenced library for TopLink JPA was not included.
    My third approach was to add a library file group to the JAR deployment profile. I tried to add the library to jar's root and to META-INF directory. But the application don't find the library (java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError).
    The only way I got this running was adding all referenced libraries from dependent projects to the view/controller project which couldn't be the proper solution.
    So how do I get this running? What are the best practices?
    I would be glad to get some input on these issue. Thank you.
    PS:
    I'm using JDeveloper 10.1.3.2 and like to deploy on Tomcat 5.5.23.

    I see your points.
    Unless you have Java EE 5 there is no real standard way of including libraries in EAR files. Including the libs in the WAR files is the only standard supported way for file formats prior to Java EE 5. If you have to consider Tomcat as a possible platform, WAR files are your only option.
    You reluctance to include the libs in the WEB-INF/libs structure is understandable but think of injected dependencies in the Entities you're not aware of. These might be needed in the view layer too.

  • How to share projects/events across multiple users

    what's the best way to share projects and events for multiple users on the same computer?
    i want to be able to open fcpx in one user account and have access to all events and projects that i have access to as another user. basically, fcpx should look exactly the same in both accounts.

    Welcome User in OTN,
    to make two projects can access its classes you should goto the project property ---> Dependencies then add the other project.
    in your case:
    try to goto you Model project property ----> Dependencies ---> Edit Dependencies .
    you will find your ViewController project. Expand it thin check to Build Output.
    you can make this for ViewContoller project also as:
    goto you ViewContoller project property ----> Dependencies ---> Edit Dependencies .
    you will find your Model project. Expand it thin check to Build Output.

  • Cannot export or share project error (-50)??

    I've made a 4 minutes 31 seconds video and tried to export and exporting through quicktime then this message occurred:
    Unable to prepare project for publishing
    The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (-50)
    I've even tried to share via itunes and youtube; still didn't work. I've made only 3 videos in the past and all of them were under 5 minutes long; there's never been any problem exporting or sharing, or even finalizing. I've checked the space on the system, there's still A LOT left. I'm using iMovie version 9.0.4
    I did download the most up to date iMovie, however it said that my Mac OS X version is not supported. I'm all out of solutions here...

    Thanks Russ. Yes, the frame rate is different. I shoot in 720p 60 and for some reason the output of the smaller file was 29.97p. It Looks good, does it matter if I change the timeline to 29.97? Or should i just shoot in 720p30? I shoot a sports show and stream it on the web. All looks good, but I am trying to keep the file size down a bit, so the smaller bit rate seems to help. I am an old Betacam shooter and still confused by all of the different formats. Any insight will really help.  www.northcoastgameoftheweek.com

  • Seeing jagged lines on external monitor in 720P project???

    I just a purchased a Panasonic BTLH1700 to use as a braodcast monitor with Final Cut Pro 6 and even though the monitor and my FCP project are 720p mode, I'm still seeing jagged lines. I thought that was usually a 480i issue.
    When you're working in a 720p project, should you be seeing jagged lines as in interlacing on the Panasonic LH1700???
    Please help. Thanks very much in advance,
    - Nicholas
    PS: The monitor is connected to my computer via component cables and a BlackMagic HD Pro card. Should I be looking instead at Matrox MXO??? I also used the SDI port and still have jagged lines on the external monitor.

    Hi Shane,
    Thanks very much for your help. As far as I know, no, there is no downconversion occurring. I went into the Blackmagic settings in general systems preferences, and there is no downconversion selected.
    So I don't know what's causing this. But would I be better off if I sold my BlackMagic HD Pro card and instead purchased a Matrox MXO? I've heard a lot of good things about it.

  • Error trying to use load-externs in a module project

    Hi:
    I am trying to implement modules in my application. I have
    read the documentation and learned that if i want to reduce the
    size of my modules i have to use the link-report and load-externs
    compiler options (the first in the main project and the second in
    the modules)
    This is the line that i use in the "Additional compiler
    arguments" section of the the main project:
    -locale en_US -use-network=true -optimize=true
    -link-report=C:\report.xml
    The file is created in the specified location but......
    when i try to use report.xml in the load-externs argument of
    the module project i get the next error:
    "could not open 'C:\report.xml' while processing
    configuration variable 'load-externs'
    The line tha i use is this:
    -locale en_US -use-network=true -optimize=true
    -load-externs=C:\report.xml
    I am using Flex Builder 2.01
    I'll appreciate your help
    Thanks

    Hi
    This answer is 3 1/2 years too late, but someone else might find it helpful.
    Saw your question and was looking for the same answer. Eventually translated this spanish site to english.
    Solution: you need to copy the linkReport.xml to the root folder of your module project i.e. the same directory as
    your [ModuleName].mxml file.
    Good luck

  • Share project configuration with team and Build Path?

    Question 1:
    Is it possible to share the Flex Builder project settings (Flex Build Path, etc.) with other users?  It would be nice to be able to do this so all developers on a team do not have to follow a step-by-step procedure for setting up a project.  For example in a Java Project you can simply check-in the project and classpath files and new developers don't have to spend anytime setting up their ide.  I took a look at what flex is doing and it appears it saves this information (at least some of it) in the plugins directory.  I can't find exactly where but it seems very odd.
    Question 2:
    When setting the Flex build path is there a way to set-up a SWC Folder that recursively adds SWC's in sub-directories?  We pull in Flex libs from artifactory which places them into an un-flattened structure.  Since all the libs are in sub-dirs they are not found.  We have to manually add each lib individually?
    Any ideas on either of these questions?  Thank you.

    Re: Question 1.
    Do you mean check into SVN or similar? Anyway, it seems Flash builder is saving some configuration about build paths etc. in the .actionScriptProperties file, which is found in the root folder of a project. Another option might be to export the project as a Flash Builder project by right-clicking it in the package explorer and choosing Export?
    Re: Question 2.
    Afaik the IDE doesn't support recursively going through a folder to find all swc:s. You could probably solve this using an ANT script. E.g. the following script recursively copies all files with .swc extension from the libraries (AS3) folder to the libs folder of a project.
    <project name="swcTest" default="copy.swc" basedir=".">
        <property name="swc.src" value="${basedir}/../../libraries (AS3)/" />
        <property name="swc.dest" value="${basedir}/libs/" />
        <target name="copy.swc" description="Recursively copies swc files from source to target folder">
            <echo message="${swc.src}" />
            <echo message="${swc.dest}" />
            <copy todir="${swc.dest}" failonerror="true" flatten="true">
              <fileset dir="${swc.src}"
                       includes="**/*.swc"
              />
            </copy>
        </target>
    </project>

  • Share project with friend (only iPad, no Mac)

    Hi all,
    I'm an iPad and iPhone user and I don't have the Mac. I have created a new song on my iPad and now I would like to share  the project with my friend.
    Directly from the app there is the possibility to share only the music, but I want to share the whole project with all the multi tracks.
    I tried to export the project using iTunes, but in the App sharing file there is only one file to be saved on my PC.
    Anyone can help me_
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Chris, how are you sharing to iTunes? With the setting "AAC" or "GarageBand"? To share the project, you need to share with the "GarageBand" option.
    In iTunes on your PC you should see a folder. I can't check this, I only have Macs.
    See this thread:
    Re: Loading a .band file back into Garageband (iPad 2)
    or HT4622 Re: Can I share the .band file to my friend for edit/record his track?
    also turingtest2's solution to upload project files from your PC back to the iPad.

  • Relink iPhoto videos on an external drive to iMovie projects?

    In iMovie 9 on Leopard, how do I relink iPhoto videos to iMovie projects after I've moved the iPhoto library to an external drive?  iPhoto works fine, iMovie not. Thanks

    It occurred to me that I could test this. I recently got a new Mac, and I moved my iPhoto Library from the SSD to the hard drive. I usually use Aperture so I have never opened iPhoto on this machine. In fact I moved my whole Home Folder to the Hard Drive.
    iMovie was not seeing the iPhoto Events. I opened iPhoto (for the first time). Then I restarted iMovie.
    It offered to generate thumbnails for iPhoto. I did not have to restart the Mac.
    I know your situation is different. I just thought I would report what I did in case it might help.
    I am not seeing any of the yellow triangles, but I am still looking.

  • Export JAR from NWDS does not include external JARs imported to project

    Hi.
    I'm need to develop and run a batch java program.  I'm having difficulty getting the application to find the 2 external JARs at runtime.
    For compile time, I have physically imported these 2 JARs into the project.  To add them to the build path, I selected "Add Jar".  I now see the JARs in the project.
    I've also update the Manifest file appropriately by adding this line.
    Class-Path: com.sap.security.api.jar logging.jar
    However, when running the program from the command line, I get class not found errors.
    I noticed that the exported application JAR does NOT contain the needed 2 JARs even though they clearly exist under the project.
    Am I going about this correctly?  Why do external JARs not get included in the application JAR that is created?  Can I somehow force them to be included?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,
    why don´t you just add the two additional JAR files to the classpath at runtime:
    java -cp x1.jar;x2.jar -jar yourJar.jar
    This is the easiest way to start your Java app.
    Have a look at java - the Java application launcher for details.

    Hello everyone,
    Hope someone can give me a hand with problem I've at hand. Can't say that I'm a wiz at FCPX, but I have been able to share my other videos on differnt platformes until now.
    When I chose to share my project on youtube, or any other way I get a pop up window stating the following:
    "The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.Compressor.CompressorKit.ErrorDomain error -1.)"
    This is the first time that this has ever happend and the truth be said I haven't the slightest idea of what to do
    from this point on.

    Best regards.

    Well you are telling us that you have not updated FCPX for 3 years. You must update to the latest  versionFCPX 10.1.1 it is the only version available. Did you buy your copy from App Store ?

  • Won't allow me to share projects I've created

    I made a new project and it won't let me share saying, "Project contains documents that are not owned by you. You need to move the owned documents to a new project and share the new one." which I know isn't true because I just made it. How do I solve this

    I had it entered but deleted and re-entered the information via the Advanced
    Tab.  Still the 'put' is grayed out.
    I'm looking through the page from the link you sent me. Thanks for your
    encouragement. I'll let you know if I resolve the issue from there.

  • Export/Share project in IMovie

    I have read through numerous posts but still confused. Once I create my project in IMovie what is the best form to export/share for burning on IDVD? I am looking for the best quality DVD and not concerned about file size? I have read to share it to DV and also to export it to Quicktime.
    Thoughts would be appreciated.
