External HD vs 7200 internal

I do music, and I am weighing the option of getting the 7200rpm internal drive versus getting an external 7200 drive ( smartdisk for example)

The advantages of an external one is better considering the capacities available. You can always copy the stuff on to your internal HD you need immediately when on the go.

  • No external transaction assigned to internal transaction 0020 / 0010

    Hi gurus..
While iam doing invoice  its shows error like
"No external transaction assigned to internal transaction 0020 / 0010"
Where i need to maintain external transactions?
can any one please tel the complete path for that...
    thanks...

    Hello,
Financial Accounting / Contract Accounts Receivable and Payable / Basic Functions / Postings and Documents / Document / Maintain Document Assignments / Maintain Transactions for IS-U/IS-T / Maintain Transactions for Cash Security Deposits/Interest
There, go to Define Main Transaction, select main transaction 0020, double click Define Sub-Transactions, select subtransaction 0010, double click Allocate Transactions to Internal Transactions and do the allocation there.
If you didn't define the combination of main transaction and subtransaction for cash security deposit payment, do that first, then follow the steps described above. If you define other main/sub transaction (for example AAAA/BBBB), replace "select main transaction 0020" with "select main transaction AAAA", and "select subtransaction 0010" with "select subtransaction BBBB" in the steps above.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can I transfer single files both ways from external usb drive to internal ssd drive?

I just installed an ssd 240g in a mac pro and put the old 500 hd to the usb port for backup . how can I access individual files from the external storage to the internal ? I can sign in only one a HD at a time now.

My guess is that you cloned the hard drive to the SSD, correct? In that case you can still view both drives at a time. Just plug in your external hard drive, open Finder, and look for it on the left-hand side of the window (called the sidebar). Click on it once you have found it, and you should be good to go!

  • External HD vs larger internal one

Hi, my internal driver is full on my laptop. I have to either buy a new external HD (500GB/7200rpm) or change to a larger internal one (500GB/7200 or 5400rpm). I am aware the external one will be lower compared to internal one.
    is it acceptable?
I think that PS will use HD only when opening and saving the photos. It uses memory and scratch disk (configured on internal one) most of the time.
I can not add the second internal HD. Only Photshop CS4 and MS office installed on this laption which is only used for PS. OS is window 7 64-bit with 4GB memory.
    thanks for your help

Well, looks like you already know your answer.... If you only need storage, there's certainly nothing wrong with an external drive. Even large-ish images beyond 200 MB open reasonably fast via the simplest USB connection, so there's nothing against it....

  • How does one use an external microphone with the internal camera?

I want to use the internal camera because I don't have anything better but I want to use an external mic to record video and sound simultaneously, for a video blog. How does one accomplish this? I'm getting no help from the manual.

Try this. Connect your external mic, either through the audio line in port or, into a USB port if it is a USB mic and then go to System Preferences under the Apple and select the Sound icon under Hardware. Click on your mic shown in the list of input devices.
    Hope that works for you.

  • Backing up an external hard drive and internal drive to Time Machine

Hello!  I have had my new iMac (21.5 inch, 10.6.6, 2.5 ghz Intel Core i5) for three days now.  I am really nervous about losing my files.  One thing I was really looking forward to on the Mac is Time Machine.
Here is my current setup.  Time Machine is backing up my internal hard drive (500GB) to an external hard drive (500GB).   Lets call the Time Machine backup drive "black" for simplicity.  I have another external hard drive connected as well (500GB).  Let's call it "silver."  The silver drive has all the files I created on various PC's and Macs.  It is formatted so that it can work on both PCs and Macs (MS-DOS FAT 32).  There is 350GB on the silver drive, leaving 149 GB available.  The black one is the Time Machine backup; it was formatted by Time Machine into Mac OS Extended journaled and is currently using 31 GB.
I would really love for Time Machine to back up the Silver drive (that has all of my files) and the internal Mac drive to the Time Machine black drive.  In Time Machine's exclude list, it shows the Silver drive, but will not let me exclude it (it will not let me select it at all).
Is there something that I am missing?  Why won't Time Machine include the Silver drive?
P.S.  I am new to Time Machine, and most of System Preferences, so a little more explanation may be needed.
    Thank you in advance!

Just curious, why is it a bad idea to share with Windows?  The files I created on Windows that I want to use on the Mac are things like PDFs, JPGs, MP3s, Adobe Creative Suite files, etc.   I don't know very much about cross platform files other than I haven't had issues over the last four years sharing files with a PC here and a Mac at school (and now this Mac that I own).

  • Quick Question: Will TC Use an External Drive Like the Internal?

I use an AEBS with the "unsupported disks" hack to mount a Drobo disk over AFP. I back up regularly over 802.11n (Apple Version), and it has been working very well since December. There's no question that it works. I have done a couple of restores, and regularly browse to ensure backup integrity. I do offsite backups of important/secure stuff, but that's not a Time Machine regimen. It's much more a classic "dump n' burn" type of thing.
If no one is familiar with a Drobo, it's a pretty nice piece of kit. It's a "slobo," so you want to use it over a network, but it is robust as ****. A LOT cheaper than RAID 5 (I set up about 1.7TB of redundant storage for about $700).
What I get tired of are extremely long "Preparing" and "Finishing" sessions in my backups. The backups are not considered done unless all three phases have completed ("Preparing", "Backing Up", "Finishing"). In many cases, the "Preparing" phase is a lot longer than the "Backing Up" phase. I'm pretty sure that this is because Time Machine is sorting out the prior backups on the disk. It probably does this in a fairly primitive manner across the mounted file system.
I am assuming that Time Capsule has a client/server architecture, where the TC unit does a lot of the "sorting out" in the unit itself, as opposed to making the computer do it. What concerns me is that it does this only for the internal disk, and external disks are treated in exactly the same manner as they are currently treated by the AEBS. I have asked several people at Apple (including so-called "geniuses") about this, and have received blank stares, so the prognosis isn't good.
Unless Apple can convince me that the TC will offer a significant improvement over my current system, I see no reason to get one. This isn't aimed at people like me. It is aimed at home users who have never had a backup in the first place. I don't think they lose any sleep over the thought that I won't buy a TC for my setup.

You said "In order for TC to be attractive to home users, they must be offloading a lot of the administrative work to the unit." If this was a question... The answer is that there is no real "server" intelligence built into the Time Capsule. All the "administrative work" for Time Machine is done on the Mac running Time Machine.
As a side note - Apple employees will very, very rarely enter discussions in these forums.

  • Can't see group wiki from external network, but can internal

when someone goes to my site, and clicks on groups, you see the list of groups. but then you click on it, and it says "group doesn't exist on the server". but it does! it works fine on my internal network. what gives?
    the site is http://tmac.podzone.net
and no, that's not my internal domain

    Hi,
This works when I tried it from an external route. Hopefully you want to leave your site open to everyone, because that's the way it is now.
If you can't get to it internally, then add an A record to your site with external IP address under your current zone.

  • Music/movies on external hard drive and internal hard drive

I moved my itune library to an external drive using the recommended method (consolidate, etc.) quite awhile ago. Everything is working fine with that. However, at some point, apparently when the external drive was not connected, new music and movies were downloaded into the library folder on the internal hard drive on my computer.
Now iTunes, although it displays the information about the files that are on the external hard drive, when I try to play them, I get the message that "the song could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it now?" I can play the song after I locate it on the external hard drive.
    My questions:
1)Will I have to "locate" all of these items individually, or is there an easier way to do this? And, is there a way to avoid this problem in the future if I accidentally download an item when the external hard drive is not hooked up?
2)How do I move the files that are now on the internal hard drive to the library on the external hard drive so that iTunes recognizes them?
    Thanks!

+However, at some point, apparently when the external drive was not connected,+
Either that, or Windows nicely changed the drive letter on th exHD when you plugged in another USB device like a digital camera or even your ipod. The exHD MUST be connected before you start itunes. It's just the way it's designed.
+1)Will I have to "locate" all of these items individually, or is there an easier way to do this? And, is there a way to avoid this problem in the future if I accidentally download an item when the external hard drive is not hooked up?+
If the drive letter changed from what it was before, all you have to do is assign the correct letter to your exHD permanently.

Make sure iteuns preferences > Advanced tab are set to have the iteuns folder on the exHD. Then run the library > consolidate command. itunes will move them over to the exHD without losing track of them,.
If you move them in Win Explorer, itunes will lose track.

  • HT1229 How to save photos (iPhoto) on external HD, delete on internal HD

To make room on my internal hard drive, I want to save my iPhoto library on external hard drive and delete some events from my internal hard drive. I don't want to lose them on the external hard drive too.  Is this possible?

Just drag the iPhoto Library from the Pictures folder onto the EHD.  Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down to open the library on the EHD and check to make sure all is well with it.  Once confirmed do the same to open the library on your boot drive so you can delete the events you want to remove.
Note 1: the EHD should be formatted as OS X Extended (journaled) with ownership set to be ignored.
Note 2:  do not delete more than about 100 or so photos at a time from iPhoto.  iPhoto is known to choke when trying to delete large quantities of photos at one time.

  • Consolidate Library to External HD & Remove From Internal

My daughter has an MacBook and her internal hard drive is full -- she keeps getting "your startup disk is full" warnings. Her music is 60 or 70 GB and is obviously throwing things off.
I bought her an external HD and moved all her music over but it seems I missed something else.
Things are more complicated as she is away at school so I'm trying to help her remote.
Over the holidays she traveled with her laptop and no external and added some music -- obviously to her internal.
So now we need some help. How does she:
1 -- consolidate the music on her laptop and on her external so she ends up with one copy of everything in a library on the external.
2 -- remove the music from the internal to free up space.
3 -- make sure iTunes knows that the external is her home library and that any new music / podcasts / videos / ... will load there and not to her internal.
and in the long run ...
4 -- how can she travel with the laptop -- temporarily load music from the master (external) library so she can have music on the road -- what I call "using the MacBook like an iPod.
The internal capacity is something like 150 GB and the external is a 500. I partitioned the external and have directed her to back up everything now on her internal (including all that music) to one partition. The other partition on the HD is where I set her library. The music did move once but obviously I missed something.
    Any thoughts?
She is running the latest iTunes 9.0.2 on an intel 13" MacBook with OS X 10.4.11
    Thanks
