External HD workflow

Hi there,
New to FCP X I have important things to understand for me workflow wise. I guess the best way to work is to import, footage, work from and save directly to an external HD. If not please tell me otherwise.
Right now I have footage both on my Mac and the external HD. But I would really like to clear my computer storage all together and put to better use.
When I open a file on the external device, I can see int the FCP X browser that it opens the Mac file on the computer. Not the file on the external HD? I can not merely browse the external devise in the FCP X browser.  Why is that?
Am I to open FCP X initially and before the files. Then import any given project each time into FCP X from the external HD - is this the way to do it? If this is the case I assume it imports all relevant event assigned to the project also and then I could browse the external devise.
I would very much appreciate the best workflow advise for opening, edit and saving ongoing projects and events.
(prior to  importing any footage I use a Pavtube HD video converter > ProRes 422 to minimize crashing  from various files formats)
Thank you in advance for you considerations!
Best,
Mik

All your Project and Event files should be stored on your external.
When you create an event or project, or import video, you are given the opportunity to select which hard drive you want it on.
If you have got existing projects and events on your internal, you can transfer them to your external using the FCP X commands as follows:-
Select the Project in the Project Library and then choose File>Move Project.
Select the Event in the Event Browser and choose File>Move Event.

  • How to pass BindVariables to External Process (Workflow)

I build a shell script (unix) which accepts a command line parameter .... a "filename"
The "filename" is a dynamic name!
The workflow is build with a custom input parameter "filename" ... which I want to pass to an external process, which calls this shell script:
How can I do that ?
    ExtProcess:
    Command : Val=/bin/ksh
    Parameter_List : Val=":/home/bin/myscript.sh:${Task.Input}:"
(Binding ":Filename" replaces the whole value, sorry)
    Succes_Threshold: Val=0
    Script : Val="" , Binding=":Filename"
... does not pass the value of ":Filename"
    Script : Val="/tmp/fixed.name"
... works only with fixed names
what I really need is something simple like:
    Parameter_list : Val=":/home/bin/myscript.sh:${Parameter.Filename}:FIXPARAM:"
    or Script : Val=":${Parameter.Filename}:${Parameter.Param2}:${Parameter.Pram3}"
... similar problem I had with FTP, I found no way to pass dynamic filenames or other parameters (except LOCATION Parameters)
... similar problem I had with EMAIL I found no way to include PARAMETERS to the mail body (except to replace the whole body by 1 parameter)
Is there a solution or is in current version OWB 9.2 only "static" parameters supported.
I also was missing to pass OUTPUT-parameters for example of a TRANSFORMation,
    I also was missing some urgent SYSTEM-parameters for self identification of the process(like "SYSTEM.TASK_NAME" "SYSTEM.EXECUTION_AUDIT_ID" "SYSTEM.ITEM_KEY" )
Thanks for all hints and best regards
    Martin

Actually... After further investigation this may not be needed. I'd be interested in the answer, to understand what is possible.
The concept of passing parameters in the OWB workflow designer is rather limited, in my humble opinion. Sure, you can designate a "start" sequence that takes a parameter and you can pass that to mappings/transformations but there is no chance for feedback. Ie, if I manually (or through some rigged script) execute the flow with the "PARAMETER" then it will be able to bind. What about mid-flow. IE, select the record to be "processed", then call a "flow" with that as a parameter.
Am I mistaken? Is there a way to expose the "out" parameters of a mapping, or the return of a "transformation function" as "OUTS" in the process flow.
Of course, in a world where everything is OWB and in the DB one can leave data in tables, and pick it up on the other mappings. HOWEVER, most BI systems involve external retrievals, etc. that need a bit more "intelligence" then "run and return 1,2,3" . :)
Hope this is helpful for product feedback. If I'm mistaken on the WF capabilities please clue me in. :)
btw, I'm an OWB fan, certainly. The progress over the past two years has been excellent.

  • External Learning Workflow Issue

    Hi Friends,
I am trying to have approvals for External Tranings. For this I changed the "HR_APPROVAL_REQ_FLAG" to Yes. I am now able to go to the Next Page, wcich is the Review Page. However we are not using AME and when defining the function parameters we have the ame attributes that are being passed. There are a couple of issues here
1> When I intiate a new transaction to add External Learning for the users, no workflow is generated
2> I want to modify the workflow in such a way that the approvals should be custom generated. I will generate these approvals and design the workflow. But where do we start in the workflow.
Can someone please help. We are on R12.1.3
    Thanks

    Hi Friends,
My apologies. The workflow has kicked off and it took a while for that to happen. I just needed to have a little bit of patience. I can work on this now. The thread can be closed now.

  • LR EXTERNAL HD WORKFLOW ADVICE?

My hardware setup is pretty simple; Powerbook G4 with 2 external HDs (250G and 500G). LR application and Libraries are on laptop (so I assume all Metadata and XMP files are stored on the laptop). Due to storage space limitations on laptop, I'm planning to move RAW image files to EHD and point LR to folder locations there. However, I will often need to do work on images when not connected to EHD (like when I travel). I'd like some advice on a good workflow to assure that when I reconnect to the EHD my latest image Develop work done remotely is synch'd back to my image folders on the EHD. I'm assuming this will require moving the images (or folders) I expect to work on to my laptop temporarily, in which case the workflow will include removing these images (folders) from my laptop when I reconnect so that they don't keep using up storage space there. The whole point of this is to keep my laptop lean and mean, while my image directories on the EHDs grow big and bad.
A related question is that when I am not connected to my image folders, I see that I can use most LR functions, but not the Develop function. That makes sense. However if I use some of the Basic Develop functions in the Library Module, is there a need to synch up any modifications made there when I reconnect to my image folders on the EHD(keep in mind that my LR app and Library is on my laptop)?
Thanks in advance; I've spent many hours searching the archive for an answer; found most of the answer but not all of it.
    - E!

Simple in theory, but in trial it wasn't.
When I exported the DNG files to the folder in my laptop labeled Mobile, they didn't show up in LR, although the Finder showed they were there. So I tried to add this folder into the Library, and was prompted to Import these files. I'm assuming that I don't really want to import these files a second time to my laptop, since I already imported them to my EHD once. Is that correct?
Once I've figured out how to get the files to my laptop, I'm curious if the import procedure back to the EHD will recognize to simply add my changes to the original DNG files.
I further will need to design a workflow to suit my situation. Because in fact, my first import is usually to my laptop when I am in the field, after which files get moved to my EHD. But they stay on my laptop until I've sorted through them, and ideally I'd like to keep several months' images on my laptop with the originals on my EHD.
Sounds like there's no elegant silver bullet, but just some workarounds I'll have to cobble together to suit my intended workflow. Any advice or links would be appreciated.

  • Multicam and external audio workflow ?

    Gents,
I'm starting a new project and for the first time I have to combine footage from two cameras and an external audio recorder, I just need few hints about the correct workflow to make sure I won't waste time with wrong methods. The event is about 1 hour long (wedding).
CamA has almost the full event, divided in 3 large files (fixed camera, rec always on, divided in 3 because of 29 minutes per clip limitations in EU), I used CamA to fill the gaps between CamB clips.
CamB has more than a hundred clips
Both cam A & B have internal recording but I also recorded the entire event with an external recorder, creating a single .mp3 file.
I need to create a 20/25 minutes video,
What is the best workflow to sync Cam B clips with Cam A ? How would you work with two camera files and the external audio as main and only good audio ?
    Thanks

It doesn't look as though the audio file synced with the other angles.
Open the multiclip in the angle editor from the event broswer. Is the external audio present?

  • What is the Adobe Access DRM (version 5.2) "External CEK" feature?

    [ Prior to Access 5.2 ]
The randomly-generated (or user-provided) Content Encryption Key is encrypted using an asymmetric "license server key" and then stored in the content's metadata.  The CEK is never required to be persisted anywhere else (like a Key Management system or secure database).  When a client device makes a license request, the content metadata is sent to the Access DRM License Server, which has the private asymmetric key needed to decrypt the CEK out of the metadata.  The license server can then issue a license to the client containing this CEK.  For more details on the entire workflow, please see this post: DRM Packaging and License Issuance Lifecycle/Workflow
[ New Feature introduced in Access DRM 5.2 - External CEK ]
Due to popular demand, version 5.2 of Access DRM introduced a new Key Retrieval scheme called "External CEK".  The reason this name was chosen is because the CEK is now external from the metadata (where it traditionally resided).  Instead of the encrypted CEK being stored in the content metadata, a CEK-ID is stored there instead.  When the license server is processing a license request, if it detects that the KeyRetrievalType of the request is of type "ExternalKeyRetrieval", then the license server must implement logic to do a retrieval of the CEK, which is specific to the company using Access DRM.  The key retrieval may be via a KeyManagementService, a SecureDatabase, or even something as simple as a locally-stored flat file (hopefully only for testing purposes).
Using internal-CEK or external-CEK is transparent to the client device; no code has to change (or has to change if you're upgrading from an earlier version of Access).  The only changes needed to incorporate External-CEK into your Access DRM workflow is to make a change on the content packaging side (to enable E-CEK and specify the CEK-ID), and on the license server side (to recognize the KeyRetrieval type as E-CEK and then do a CEK fetch).
Details on how to integrate the External-CEK workflow into your Adobe Access DRM infrastructure is included in your Adobe Access v5.2 documentation and DVD.
    cheers,
    /Eric.

Thanks! Will automatic update select ‘Adobe Reader X’ after support ends for ‘Adobe Reader 9.5.5’ on June 23, 2013?

  • BPM Examples

Where I can download Examples for Oracle BPM 11g?

The Florida Department of Revenue (U.S) is using SAP XI to excecute web service operations provided by the Internal Revenue Service (Treasury Department, U.S. government). This system is called the Modernized e-File (MeF) and send us tax returns to us via SOAP with Attachments.
Anyway, once we get the tax returns we have to load the tax return data to various system and post the payments to various systems. These systems are SAP and non-SAP. Certain operations must happen before others and some exception conditions trigger external human workflows. We are using SAP XI's BPM functionality to do all of this. We go live next spring!

  • Relating audio to video

I have the video set now (stills and video on Video 1), and I've dictated a voiceover separately as a wav file and placed it onto Audio 1.. But they aren't coordinated. I need to make spaces between sentences or groups of sentences so that they come at the appropriate time. What's the best way to do this?
    1. I could make razor cuts and slide the audio appropriately--if so, what's the keystroke or way to select all from the CTI on?
    2. I could add space in soundboth, but I can't see the video in soundbooth.
    3. I tried to export the Pr sequence into an M4V and M2V so that I'd have both audio and video in soundbooth, but when I then open that in Soundbooth the audio only shows up as a straight line (I'm not sure what settings to use for that export). And even if I could export it from Pr and then open as a Soundbooth, how would I get it back into Premier for further editing?
There must be a good way to do this, but I haven't figured it out.
    kdoc

I think you've got a pretty convoluted workflow going on here The whole point of a non-linear editor (or any video editor, for that matter) is synchronizing picture with sound. Premiere will do everything you need without exporting to another application.
Beyond the methods mentioned already, probably the most efficient is this:
Load your audio clip into the Source Monitor; just double-click it in the bin/Project Panel.
If it's an audio only clip, you'll already see a waveform; if it's an AV clip, click the Output button (RGB circles) and set it to Audio Waveform.
In the timeline panel, make sure the Source Track indicator is in line with your desired Target Track; make sure that only the Target Track you want is selected/lit up.
Mark an in point (I) and an outpoint (O) around the section of audio you want in the Source Monitor.
Move the CTI in the sequence to the point where you need the audio to start.
Use the keyboard shortcut (can't remember what the default is) or click the button for Overlay Edit (in the Source Monitor panel). The marked section of audio will be added to your sequence at the CTI.
Repeat steps 4-6 until you've edited all your audio into the sequence. This might sound like a few steps, but it takes longer to read than to do. I think you will find this is far faster than the external application workflow you're trying, or even faster than shoving around the audio clip in a sequence. You'll also have a finer degree of control.

  • Call external RFC in a workflow

    Hi!
I'm going through the tutorials at
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_46c/helpdata/en/fb/1359c4457311d189440000e829fbbd/frameset.htm.
I had a question - as one of the steps in the workflow, is it possible to call an RFC on an external system (a destination defined via SM 59), get the response back, and use that response in the next step in the workflow, which again calls another RFC on an external system?
    Thanks,

Yes, you can achieve that by using the corresponding methods of the activity defined.

  • Send mail to an external recipient in a 2013 Workflow

    Hi,
What is the recommended method for sending an Email to an external email address form within a SharePoint 2013 Workflow?
    Regards,
    Dean

    1. In Central Admin and Web Apps general settings - choose Workflows.
Adjust the setting "Allow external users to participate in workflow by sending them a copy of the document?" to yes. Default is no.
    2. Just mention their email address in workflow and make sure that your SMTP server can send email to that email address.
    3. Configure your SMTP server to receive email from SP server

I am currently trying to create a list where the user can upload a document, input an email address (external) and an expiration date. I then have a workflow that will send an email on the expiration date. The problem I am getting is that Sharepoint 2013

you need to allow their IP address to relay anonymously in Exchange.
