External hfs  not recognised by lion 10.7

Hi,
I use lion 10.7. and it doesns´t recognise my external configurated with hfs +
Before it was configured in ntfs and only readable..could not write files on it. Now after the new configuration it
doesnt recognise anything.
Howeber the bootprogramm sees the hard disk, I can only delete it but not repair it.
AND I THOUGHT HFS+ is especially a mac filesystem!!
is there a driver to use?
thanks
xx

Hi I had the same issue in XP after upgrading to  iTunes ver. 10.7.0.21
I was in the middle of activating the phone over the air which failed.
When connecting to iTunes the phone did not get recognised.
I had to  unplug/replug the usb cable 2x before the device got recognized.
Must be a windows issue, i suspect.

  • External display not recognised in Mountain Lion OS

    Hi all,
I have a Samsung Syncmaster 2443BW which I wanted to set up as extended display for my new bought Macbook Air.
I am running the latest Mountain Lion OS including the last updates.
When attached the monitor with an Apple miniDisplay port to DVI adapter it is not recognised, nor showing up in the System Preferences - displays menu.
Any help is appreciated - thanks!

If the system is from Dec. 2011 it either came with DVD discs to reinstall the original shipping version of OS X or it came with Lion preinstalled.
If Lion then you use the Online Internet Recovery system to reinstall Lion, No Password needed. To boot to the Online system at startup hold downn the Option/Alt + Command + r keys and hold them down until you see a globe on the screen. From the Mac OS X Utilities screen that comes up use Disk Utility to partition the drive as one partition, Formatted Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) with a Partition table of GUID (That is an option under the Options button). Then click the Apply button. Once that is done exit DU and select Reinstall Mac OS X.
If it came with system Reinstall discs you have to use those to reinstall OS X and the iLife apps then you can use the Mac App Store to upgrade to Lion, Mt Lion or Mavericks. Whichever version you bought from the App store perviously or Mavericks for free.

  • DVD-R Disc not recognised in Lion.

I find I cannot play a DVD-R ( I receive a message saying it is not recognised!) whereas It used to work well. Since I upgraded to Lion some time ago It has worked sometimes and not others. Has anybody got any suggestions? I would greatly appreciate any suggestions you might have. Thankyou June

    Hi
Can be one or more of several things - I'll Guess
    • Did You really make a Video-DVD (via a DVD authoring program) - he ones that are burned from DeskTop are Data-DVDs
    • Brand of DVD - Matters - I only use Verbatim
    • Type of DVD - Matters - Here You seem to do like me - use DVD-R as
DVD+/-RW or DVD+R - is not my choice
    • DL-DVDs use to give more problems than SL-DVDs
    • I RUN A CLEANING DVD (no liquid - but the brush onses) from time to time
    • Trash iDVD pref file - or rather start a new User-Account and have a new go (this way by-passes lot's of pref. and cache files.
    • Run repair permissions - Disk Util tool
    • Run repair hard disk - Disk Util tool (but to do this You need to re-start Mac - BUT NOW FROM DVD or external HD with Mac OS)
    • Free space on start-up Hard Disk - I never let this go less than 25Gb

  • External harddrive not recognised

Hi.. im not sure if this is the correct forum, but i'll give it a shot. I have a hard drive I used in a windows pc. I recently bought a mac compatible external usb hdd casing and fitted the hard drive. But when I connect to my powerbook g4, it is not recognised by mac. Its shows up as connected in disk utility but its not mapped.... any help please????

Because USB isn't bootable, most people stick to Oxford 911+ which has FW400 and USB2 support.
You can find "Mac-compatible FireWire" for $38 on Amazon or just head to
http://www.macsales.com and see what is in the sales specials.
Also, you may want to remove the partition table while connected to PC, or try booting from Tiger DVD and wipe the drive.

  • 1.5TB external HDD not recognised on various laptops

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could help me.
I bought my toshiba 1.5 terrabyte external harddrive just over a year ago. It works fine on my other laptop and my boyfriend's laptop but when I connected it to four other new laptops (all different brands) recently it was not recognised on these laptops at all.
Is there something wrong with my external or is something on these computers blocking it from being recognised? Do you know how I can fix this problem?
    Many Thanks!

    Hello
And if you connect the external HDD to your and boyfriends notebook everything is still ok? You have only problems with new notebooks?
Well thats really strange Have you tested another USB cable and different USB ports?
Maybe on the new notebooks the antivirus or firewall program is blocking the access to external drive. Check your security software and allow external devices.

  • WD external harddisk not recognised after failed format

    Hi folks,
So I have an old WD 320GB harddisk I pulled from an old windows acer 5535 I wasn't using, I tried formatting it to OSX journaled so i could use it to back my friends mac up. The drive was initially readable and showed my windows 7 and files I had on there.
I left it to work for a couple of hours, when I came back it said it had failed. I have since read about the 'correct' way to format this drive.
The drive no longer shows up in disk utility or in system profiler under USB.
I'm plugging in using a USB SATA enclosure.
The mac I tried to format on is an old white unibody running 10.6.8, it's not recognised on my imac running 10.8.4.
The disk spins and the green light on the enclosure is lit.
Have I killed it or can I save it with some more powerful software?
    Cheers!
    Karl,

Yes i thought this too, problem is my old acer's GPU is problematic and will only work now and again, I think it needs re-flowing. I'll put the hard drive back and try to get it booted up and see what happens. I'm guessing it's no good now anyway after the mac tried to format it for a while.
    Will report back.
    Karl.

  • IMac external monitor not working after lion upgrade

    Hi,
I have had an external monitor hooked up to my 09' imac for over a year now. I upgraded to Lion and ever since then it hasnt worked but one other random time when I moved and hooked everything back up. Im very tech savy, but this just doesnt make sense. Have combed google to find a solution. I have a Samsung 22in moniter and all the blue power button does is blinks at me. I am using a miniDisplay to DVI connection.
Does anyone have any suggestions other than resetting the ram?

I guess it's possible you've got some kind of hardware problem.... but not likley given it started with you installed your OS.
Here's a few things to try:
    1. see if you can borrow another monitor just to be sure your monitor isn't the problem.
    2. in System Prefs, and the Displays pane, click on the Detect Displays, then then the Gather Displays. If you get two diffenet display panes, that would lead me to think it's a monitor problem.
    3. Lastly, disconnect your 2nd display, and restart. Then Shutdown, reconnect it, and see if that helps.
    and of course..
    4. make sure that all of your connections and adaptors are tight.

  • External drive not recognised in Finder or Disk Utility on new Mini

    Hi,
I've just bought a new Mac Mini and it won't recognise my Seagate Expansion drive in either Finder or Disk Utility. The drive is fully accessible on my old Macbook (running Snow Leopard), and ran fine on my old iMac running Mavericks. I've tried the troubleshooting tips in other threads - Seagate External Hard Drive does not work on Yosemite - but since they refer to people upgrading to Yosemite, I'm wondering if this might be down to the hardware in the latest Mini models? Any info or ideas on what to try next would be hugely appreciated!
    Thanks.

    -  Do other external USB drives work on your Mini?
    - If you go to System Report (click on Apple icon in upper left and select About this Mac>More Info>System report) what shows for the drive under Hardware>USB? Yo should see the enclosure chip as well as the drive itself.
    - Tr resetting the SMC and PRAM
    - If you purchased the Mac within the last 90 days you still have free telephone support

  • External Harddrive not recognised on GX740

    Hi,
Recently my External HD "wesern digital My Book Studio Edition II" does not come up in my GX740 notebook.
I have tried all usb connections.
As far as I understand the HD uses windows-drivers, (not from cd)
The Harddrive works fine on my other computer.
Does anyone have suggestions what I should do/try to fix?
Do you think it is a Hardware thing "maybe reinstall usb drivers"
    or maybe a Windows issue??
    Help is appreciated.
    Regards
    Gunde

    Thank you for the answer.
Unfortunately the disk is not shown in "ctrl panel / Administrator tools / disk management" so I have nothing to partition, it cant find the disk.
Also the disk pop up directly when i plug it into my other notebook.
The computer does make that familiar sound when you plug in a new device in an USB port (on the MSI computer) but maybe that is just the computer recognising that something is plugged in to the usb-port.
    Hopefully somebody can help
    /Gunde

  • Mac OS 5.8 usb external keyboard not recognised

I ordered a new mac keyboard and hooked it up with my Kensigton Trackball but they are not being recognised by my macbook.
    any clues?
    Thanks,
    Steve

From searching the web, I am tempted to say the Iso Gear is quite an exotic device.
It's up to Astone them to deliver a firmware upgrade for their device to work with Mac OS X 10.5, as Apple probably follows USB 2.0 standards when accepting (or not) an external hard drive.
diskutil became more picky in 10.5 (been bitten myself) but still, I am not sure whether this is due to Apples development teams faults or due to to Astone following standards.
There has been an issue in 2006 with LaCie drives on OS X 10.4 which were resolved by their firmware upgrade.
I know this is of no help to you, but consider not just talking on Apple forums about this but also on Astone help channels.

  • Seagate external drive not recognised

I've had this external Seagate hard drive since I got the Mac itself - around 2 years ago. It's worked fine up to yesterday, when it started making horrible noises, and today when I switched on the Mac it told me 'the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer'. I've tried taking out & re-inserting the USB cable, but I fear something more serious has happened. I looked at another thread on this issue here, but it was full of very technical jargon, & photos someone had taken of the hard drive in pieces; I really don't feel competent to take my drive apart to find out what is wrong! I looked in 'Disk Utility', but I have a second Seagate drive which is the Time Machine back-up, so I'm not very sure which drive I am looking at in there. Everything was greyed out anyway, so I could not click on 'repair' or any of the other options. I would be grateful for any ideas or suggestions!

Thanks; I tried this, & the hard drive is 'seen' by Disk Utility, but not by Finder. See screenshot attached; it's the 'Go Flex' drive I've highlighted. However I can't actually do anything with it in Disk Utility, as all the options to 'verify', 'repair' etc are greyed out. NB: This is the same for the Time Machine back-up drive as well though; no options to do anything.
I contacted the Seagate support but I guess there's nothing much they can do if it's died. Yes I do have the files elsewhere; but mostly on DVD & very time-consuming to access. & if you're using a supposedly 'reliable' hard drive as your back-up disk then you don't expect it to suddenly collapse after just 2-3 years. This makes me worried about the Seagate drive I'm using as my main back-up!
