External Hierarchies

Guys,
Can someone tell me what people mean when they says "loading external hierarchies"? An example would be perfect.
Thanks,
RG

Hi Ram,
BW allows you to determine multiple external hierarchies for a characteristic. External hierarchies can be used for characteristics in the dimension tables and for activated navigational attributes for query navigation.
Example:
Consider a simple external hierarchy for the characteristic ‘country’. ‘Country’ is a member of the customer dimension table but it could instead, or additionally, be a navigational attribute in the customer master data table. The nodes are of a textual nature. If ‘continent’ was an InfoObject of type characteristic we could use this InfoObject to define the nodes using its characteristic values like ‘Europe’

    Coflaher,
My end goal is to use Jabber for windows as an internal IM client which currently works fine as "saMAccountName"@domain.loc. I would also like to be able to federate to services listed under the Interdomain Federation section of the document you refered to above.
How should my IM address field read? Since you say it needs to be resolvable from external sources. This leads me to believe my IM field should read "firstname.lastname"@domain.ca instead of "saMAccountName"@domain.loc
Yet when add the following to my jabber.config.xml file it seems to loose it's mapping to all the other fields in AD.
This part of the documentation doesn't seem entirely clear. Your assistance is much appreciated.

  • SAP BW hierarchies into Microstrategy

    Hi,
I'm just wondering if there is a way of bringing BW/BI Hierarchies into Microstrategy reporting.
We are planning to report in Microstrategy on top of a BW infocube with data. everything is OK except we can't bring SAP hierarchies into a Microstrategy report.
I appreciate if someone could shed ideas on this.

    Immadi,
In SAP BI Hierarchies are stored externally and not within the infocube. However for many Data Warehousing systems - the hierarchy is stored within the infocube. I am not sure if Microstrategy supports external hierarchies...

    Hi,
Hierarchies in general are essential structures for
navigation. Having characteristics and attributes in the
dimension and master data tables that are related in a
    sequence of parent-child relationships, obviously
involves hierarchies. But as the real world is sometimes
irregular, so are hierarchies. In BW there are essentially three possibilities for modeling hierarchies:
    •     as a hierarchy of characteristics within a dimension table
    •     as a hierarchy of attributes attached to a characteristic
    •     as an external hierarchy
    <b>Hierarchies within a Dimension</b>
A typical example of a hierarchy of this type is a time
hierarchy with levels such as millenium – century –
decade – year – month – day – hour etc. Another typical
example is a geographic hierarchy with levels such as
continent – country – state – region – city etc.
    <b>Hierarchies within a master data table of a characteristic</b>
This case is very similar to the one discussed in section
before. The difference is the increased flexibility (i.e.
realignment facilities) that comes with navigational
attributes. The hierarchy should still have a fixed
number of levels. However, changes to that hierarchy
(i.e. changes to attribute values) can be easily applied
to facts that are already loaded into a cube.
A typical example is the hierarchy of sales office –
sales group – sales person. This hierarchy has a fixed
number of levels but is frequently reorganized.
In terms of performance, this is the least attractive of the hierarchy modeling techniques.
    <b>External Hierarchies</b>
This is the ideal type if a hierarchy
    •     frequently changes
    •     has no fixed number of levels (sometimes referred to as a "ragged" or “unbalanced” hierarchy).
A typical example is a cost center hierarchy in which
several (sub-) cost centers belong to one cost center
which itself belong to another cost center and so on.
Such a hierarchy has no fixed number of levels as cost
centers usually correspond to departments or groups
within a company, which might be reorganized into new
subgroups. Thus new levels might be introduced, old ones
disappear. The hierarchy might be deeper at one end (due
to a deeper hierarchical organization) and shallower at
    the other.
Another major advantage of external hierarchies in
comparison to their alternatives is that an InfoObject
can have several such hierarchies and all these can be
used within the same cube. With the alternative
approaches the same effect could only be achieved through
    difficult work-arounds.

  • How to Get As is and As was data using Hierarchies.

    Hi Experts,
I have scenario,  I want to report sales by the Sales Organization Hierarchy..
    A- B- ORG1 -( 01/2010 - 05/2010)   -
       100
After 05/2010 my ORG1 has been changed from B to C then my Hierarchy looks like this
    A-C- ORG1 - ( 06/2010 to 12/999) -
    500
if i build a time dependent Hierarchy on Organization and run a report for calendar month selection as 01/2010 to 12/2010. it is showing the net sales for the Organization  A as 500 only,  the quantity 100 is not showing in the report as the hierarchy structure is not valid for the current date.
How to model a BW Hierarchy which shows  AS is and As was Data in the report using Hierarchy..
    Thanks
    Bhanu

    Hi,
Have you tried to make nodes time-dependent and not the whole hierarchy?
If this is not enough then I am afraid you should not use external hierarchies for this and change data model.
You can use only ONE hierarchy version in the same time.
HAve you tried to map this hierarchy to attributes of Org Structure?
If A is an attribute of Sales ORg you can use it in the report in the way it is required.
    Sorry, I couldn't help.

  • Strange display of query components in the report

    hey,
when I create a query and execute the report, there are always these empty lines (sometimes 4 or so) between characteristics, key figures and free characteristics.
Maybe it's important to tell you that I am using external hierarchies and variables in the querry definition.
How get ride of those empty lines?
    Cheers
    Sabine

    Hi Sabine,
It is normal to have one free line / empty row between the free chars and filter cells and the result area. Now when you execute the query for the first time, there is one row. If you go to edit the query (without closing the workbook) and then re-execute the query, you will see the extra lines coming in, and it corresponds to as many times you go to change the query and reexecute it. To avoid this, just close the workbook and then reexecute the query.
    Hope this helps...

  • Can i use two characteristics in heirarchy( waiting for reply from 2 days)

    hello Guru's
I am working on a very non-standard PnL statement report in BI and am trying to come up with a good way to maintain it. Each line item in the PnL statement is based on different characteristics. For instance, the first line item might be a range of account numbers using 0GL_ACCOUNT . The second line item may be a particular Cost Center using 0COSTCENTER and a particular GL Account.
can i set up hierarchies on certain characteristics (0GL_ACCOUNT, 0COSTCENTER, 0COMP_CODE). Would it be somehow possible to create an entirely custom hierarchy that would use mixed characteristics to come up with each value? If this is not possible, can someone tell me that how can we handle this(query side)?

    hello Nair,
i have balances for G/L accounts Ex: 9410 G/L account has balances with cost centers 1000, 2000 and 3000. I need to restrict 9410 with cost center 1000 in hierarchy
for this i created hierarchy on 0GL_Account like. i created revenues as text node and under revenues i created acetate product as text node under this i inserted G/L account 9410. I kept 0Costcenter in external Hierarchies of 0GL_Account. by that i inserted costCenter also under Acetate product. i am not getting correct values.
can you please sugest is there any thing.

  • Significance of 3 flags used in almost all the tables

    Hello everyone,
Please let me know the significance of flags used in almost all the tables in BI/BW.
If the flags are initial, what does that signify ?
CHCKFL : Flag: Value in check tables
DATAFL : Flag: Value in dimension or available as attribute
INCFL     : Flag: Value is built into all inclusion tables
If CHCKFL is initial, means this record is not maintained in Check table, and so i wont see it if i search it in its InfoObject (That conatins this table).
How should i retrieve such a record?
    Thanks
Edited by: shalaxy s on Nov 19, 2009 5:44 PM

    Hi,
These flags are a kind of "where used" flags.
    CHCKFL, DATAFL
Re: Meaning of CHCKFL    DATAFL  INCFL   in sid table of  IO
    INCFL
Used in inclusion tables of external hierarchies
These fields are also initial when you delete master data of a characteristic with option not to delete related SIDs.
    Hope this helps

For read-write entity bean, the stub is not a replica-aware stub, so all the
calls goes to the same bean instance. If server goes down, we should use
home stub to find a new instance again.
For read-only entity bean, the stub is replica-aware stub, so the calls will
be load balanced, that means the subseauent call may goes to another server.
If the server goes down, there will be fail over.
For another case, if your entity's client, for example a session bean,
reside on the same server as the entity bean, then all the calls will go to
the same server. This is the optimization of WLS.

  • Material Classifications Hierarchy

    Hi all,
Could someone help me to build the material classification hierarchy in BW. They have some classification data in R/3 and we need to extract that into BW. We would be able to achieve this by maintaining external hierarchies. I would like to know the detailed steps or some documents to achieve this task. I will really appreciate your replies.
    Thanks,

If you have hierarchy maintain is R/3 side, you can directly load it.
And if you wanna create hierarchy in BW follow this link:

  • Hierarchy creation and loading

    Hi all,
I am new to BW and trying to learn Hierarchies.
    for example i have created
    ZREGION
    ZZONE1,ZZONE2,ZZONE3
    ZAREA1
So i want all these infoobjects to be under an order like zregion will be having zzone1, zzone2, zzone3 and again these will have zzarea1 under zzone1
so i have created all these infoobjects in BW then how to get them in the order i have mentioned above.
and also when doing reporting can i just drag characterstic ZRegion into the rows and all the structure should be displayed.
plz letme know how to create the heirarchy.
and also i have a doubt of loading them.
    thanks
    Prasad

    Hi Aby,
i have went into change mode of my infoobject zregions
and in that i have selected with hierarchies
so do i first need to add my other infoobjects in the external heirarchies and then go to the maintain heirarchies tab and make changes...like when i get into the maintain hierarchies tab without adding the external hierarchies i am not able to insert any characterstics, after inserting the infoobjects in the external hierarchies then only i could use the push button insert characterstic as a node....
what is the difference of external hierarchies and this maintain heirarchies.
    thanks

  • Beginner question on creating hierarchy data

We are moving data migration and other data bases to SAP and in the process of coming upto speed on SAP BI/BW using 7.0. I am working thru the Step by Step excercise by Fu et al.
It has salesoff, salesregion and salesperson infoobjects. Salesperson infoobject has attribute of Salesperson name and we have edited external hierarchies to include salesoff and salesregion.
Also, we manually entered master data for salesregion and salesoff - EAST, MIDWEST and WEST. To enter the hierarchy data for salesperson we were told that entering hierarchy data in 7.0 by a flat file is not enabled and will be only in 7.1 (is that correct?). So I tried doing it manually,
    a) I click on infobject Salesperson - create hierarchy. In that page I picked Create Characteristic node - entered salesoff - I get this message - salesoff is not a foreign characteristic.
How do I get past this ? Should I not include salesoff and salesregion in the external char while creating salesperson.
Is there something I missed in the StepbyStep ?
    Sanjay
ps - when I learn to give out points I definitely will.

    Hi Sanjay,
Have you enbled Hierarchy option for both Salesoff, Salesreg ?
if enabled uncheck and activate infoobjects.
SalesrepID should be hierarchy enable if you want to create Hierarchy using SalesrepID infoobject.
on hierarchy, click on Maintain hierarchies to create Hierarchy, here give name of hierachy and discriptions on infoobject SalesrepID.
and click on External chars. in hieracies to add Salesoff, Salesreg, and activate SalesrepID.
    Hope this helps

  • SAP_DROP_TMPTABLES

    Hi Guys,
Were planning on running Program, SAP_DROP_TMPTABLES
base on your experience what are the PROs and CONs of using the program??
will it delete unecessary tables? what if that program is accidentally run, what are the Harms
and worst case scenarios that can happen

    Hi Michel,
There are some points about this report program :
This is a standard ABAP report uses table RSDDTMPPROGS and  different function modules like DB_DROP_TABLE ,DD_TABL_DEL,RSDDTMPTAB_RELEASE_NAME,RSDU_CHECK_OBJ_EXISTENCE ,RRBA_DAYS_TO_TIMESTAMP_ADD etc .
this report program is useful to delete temporary data base objects.
    Pros:
This is to clean temporary entries and the reason to use this program is that there are objects like tables, views, triggers start with /BI0/0 name prefix and they are not stored procedures or triggers so cannot be a part of ABAP dictionary. These objects are not maintained in ABAB dictionary because of performance reasons .So to delete them for performance improvement SAP has provided this standard program .so this is simplest way to remove these temporary objects
    cons :
when we execute  SAP_DROP_TMPTABLES report it deletes all objects in one go except  tables for temporary hierarchy .while doing so it not checks whether objects getting deleted are still in use or not .so this may affect you in lots of areas as
    1) /BI0/01xxxx are temporary tables deals with query processing so your query will give termination error .
    2)/BI0/02xxxx will affect external hierarchies.
3)/BI0/03xxxx deals with views used in query .
    4) /BI0/04xxxx and /BI0/05xxxx will affect stored procedure and triggers .
5)/BI0/0Dxxxx deals with open hub functioning
so if these are running simultaneously then you may have issues in respective areas. You must ensure the dependency between different tables if any.
