External instrument multiple sounds

hi. Im having problems with my external instrument well its not a problem i just want to know if i can play multiple sounds or midi notes with my external instrument but in multiple tracks i mean ive benn trying to make a sound with my external instrument but with different sound but it only play the sound that its selected on the external instrument i donst matter if i have two or more different tracks it all plays the same instrument sound.
so my question in order to have multiple sounds of the same external instrument i have to record and then bounce to audio the external instrument sound one by one so i can have more tan one sound of it? i need help with that cause every time i bounce the external instrument sound it looses quality and every time a little click on the end defect the sample. please help me
thank you

We have no way of knowing what external instrument you're talking about...

  • Recording audio from "External instrument"

what's an easy way to get get audio from an "External instrument" track to it's own audio track for later editing? I have to use the External instrument because I need to monitor my synth with delay inducing pluggins on the master outputs.
    thanks.

i use the external instrument plug-in a lot with my lexicon mx200 (jord you can say hypocrite now) with guitars, vocals, and drums.
Why? An engineer friend once told me: if it sounds right, then it is right.
Like I said, you have to keep in mind that a mastering plug-in on the output bus will introduce delay. And, considering, as you stated, that a compressor would probably achieve the same effect, there's no reason not to use that instead (which may also take care of the delay problems). However, I wouldn't have even applied it on the output bus until it was time to mix and get my sound together (once I have tracked everything else).

  • Using EXTERNAL INSTRUMENT plug normally has latency BUT NOW FULLY SOLVED ???

    Hi,
I use alot of outboard synths and I use the EXTERNAL INSTRUMENT plug from Logic9 for this.As MIDI destination I choose my synth (Elektron Monomachine) and as AUDIO INPUT 11-12 , nothing spectacular there.
When I play this external instrument in Logic by hand using my usb controller keyboard everything plays in sync, but when I record it it has latency...Again this is normal (I think??) because I browsed alot of Logic groups and came to the conclusion that the EXTERNAL INSTRUMENT-plug isn't delay compensated,am I right? Even after rigid quantizing the recorded midi sounds a bit late, sluggish.
So the recorded midi has a delay, but THEN I FOUND OUT THIS : If instead in the EXTERNAL INSTRUMENT-plug I choose GM-device (don't know how this got in my midi destination list) instead of Elektron Monomachine as MIDI destination the midi is SPOT ON !!!! (playback)
Can somebody clarify this, this is very strange....the only downside to this is the fact that when I use the GM-device the midi is send to all my midi-synths at the same time....But what the heck,if I can record without almost no latency :-)
What am I missing,I feel like an idiot :-)

I've always used External MIDI tracks to control outboard instruments - it used to work perfectly for me, mostly using an Akai Z8 sampler and various synth modules. I'm becoming more inclined to doing everything in my computer though, these days.
The I/O plug-in has a Ping function - in other word, its sends a small packet of data to your external device and measures the amount of time it takes to come back, if you've got connections going both ways - I haven't used it, but I suppose that may help you with the latency problem, but using external MIDI tracks gives you all the basic stuff you want to do.

  • No External Instrument Plugin in the List

    Hi,
I've searching for a while but can't find any info regarding the External Instrument plugin. The manual says it's supposed to be under Instruments > Logic > External but there it's not there. I'm running DTDM + DAE combination. Would that be a problem?
My external synths bounce OK using DAE StereoInput objects but that way I can only apply TDM inserts to it and no native processing.
    Any solution to this?

wonder if there are any stability issues with multiple drivers...
In the manual they do say this:
We strongly recommend that you do not attempt to use more than two audio engines simultaneously within Logic Pro. The strain on the PCI bus will cause too many problems, and will generate a number of DAE error messages.
Your first choice should be DAE in conjunction with DTDM. If necessary, choose DAE and Core Audio.

  • Playback with the external instrument plug-in

Hi. Sorry to bother you guys with this Q but I'm having some problems with the External Instrument Plug-in. I seem to have no problems recording in this way from an external synth but the information won't play back. Any info would be most appreciated.
    Cheers

ok now i'm a bit confused when I plug in my synth via the external instrument plug-in the sounds of my synth come up in logic as would one of its internal synths. i.e. the info is recorded as midi and can therefore be quantized and the velocity altered etc. So my goal here is to be able to use my own synth patches but be able to quantize them in logic ( which of course you can't do if its recorded as an audio file ). Now I'm not a tech person so perhaps this isn't possible and I'm just totally of the mark here but I figure it should be because when i use the E.I. Plug-in my synths sounds come out and the data does get recorded on an audio instrument file, and from there I can quantize it. The only thing is when I go to play back that region I get zip. The info is there, I can see it but there's no sound.

  • External Instrument problem, in serious need of help!!??

    Dear all,
I have a really big problem... I can't get the external instrument plugin to work properly.
My setup is mostly below, but I wish I could post a diagram. Here's what's going on.
I have my PB, my X-Station, my CME UF5 and my M-Audio midisport 2x2
Connected to my PB are: FirePod by FW, Dongle by USB and Midi2x2 by USB
The outs of my X-Station are going in to the Pod, and Logic sees input using the external plugin telling it to get input from ins 3-4, and I can hear it. Great.
On the transport it shows midi in from my UF5 (controller keyboard) and plays its internal instruments fine.
What I need to be able to do, through this setup is have my X-Station working from midi respones through Logic. I can plug my UF5 straight in, and I get it to play. What I want to be able to do is play my UF5 or have a pre-recorded midi part play the X-Station. I can hear sound from it and all.
My problem is is getting midi TO the X-Station from within Logic, and in the section where one should be able to select ports/hardware etc in the external plugin, I cannot see my midisport whose out is connected to the X-station. I ought to be able to play it from Logic with, for example, the caps keys. I know this is possible, unless it is impossible with my midisport, but I was under the impression that it would. I just need to see its outs to assign in the external plugin...
I hope I have made sense, much appreciated guys, I know I must have overlooked something. Maybe someone with fresher eyes (and an imagination, knowing myself) might be able to help.
    Cheers, best, Fred

Open the Environment. Select the MIDI Instrument layer. From the local New menu, select Instrument (top of menu). New icon appears in the layer. Select it, rename the icon to X-Station. In the parameters adust the port to the port # the X-Station is on and adjust the MIDI channel you want to send MIDI on.
Now go back to your External Plugin, select MIDI Destination-MIDI Instruments-X-Station.
    Your there.
You may want to set this up as a Multi-Instrument, but this will get you going.

  • External Instrument Plugin Needs an update!!

I'd like to see the features of the External Instrument plugin match those of Ableton Live's plugin of the same name.
Ideally, I'd like to route Midi to an individual midi channel of a multi-output software instrument, and receive audio back from one of the same instrument's audio outputs.
This will reduce the need for 2 auxiliary channels: 1 for midi, 1 for audio; and combine everything into one easily automatable channel.
Also, I'd like to see a modern form of routing to sidechain inputs; i.e. directly from a channel's output - again, just like Ableton Live.
+1 if you think this is a good idea.

I would like the External Instrument plugin to receive audio as well as send MIDI.
And it would be good to route the MIDI internally, so as to control Multi-Instruments plugins such as Ultrabeat or Kontakt.
It would also be good if the plugin could receive audio from a Multi-Output instrument, such as the above; and in addition, it could receive audio directly from one of the plugins outputs.
An ideal scenario would be like this:
Load a multiple-stereo-output instance of Kontakt with two instruments; (1) Piano and (2) Organ.
Assign the instruments to MIDI inputs 1 and 2, respectively.
Assign each instrument to stereo outputs 1 and 2, respectively, within Kontakt's interface.
Create a new instrument channel and load an instance of Logic's External Instrument plugin.
From the MIDI output drop-down menu, select 'Kontakt Instrument MIDI 2' (or similar).
NB: All MIDI channels are available; there should be no need to open the library to find MIDI outputs, or to create a new MIDI channel.
There is also an Audio Input drop-down menu: From this select 'Kontakt St Output 2' (or similar).
Now it should be possible to compose MIDI regions on that channel, sending hyper-editor, CC, and note data to inst (2) on the instance of Kontakt, as well as receive audio from the same inst. This will do away with the need for an additional audio channel, and save the arrangement from clutter.

  • External Instrument latency

    Hi guys!
I can't find this topic mentioned elsewhere, so here goes...
I have a Korg MS2000R sound module that I control with the External Instrument plug-in (ie. via the Audio Instruments section). But when I use this setting, there is a tiny but distinct latency in the sound, ie. the MS2000R sound is a tiny bit behind the rest of the music. When I monitor the module through my audio interface without External Instrument, there is no latency.
Any thoughts on how to approach this one?
    Thanks,
    STEVE...

Actually, go to System Preferences>MIDI>Sync (ithink that's the thread I'm not in front of it- it might be Sync first, then MIDI). There should be slider (sync) which will allow you to set a negative or positive value depending on your latency (although I've never heard of anyone hearing the sound before the key has been pressed! LOL). This is much easier and possibly more accurate...
    Didn't think of that before...

  • External instrument not hearing playback

I have my Alesis DM8 hooked up via USB to Logic and I launched a external instrument plug in I've selected the proper Midi channel and ave output coming out of Logic the midi information records but I can't hear playback I have the DM8 mapped to the EXS24 but I would like to use the sounds in the DM8 module I've seen other threads on this issue but it I can't seem to find a solution just trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong ...

It is now in the Utilities Folder
    Hope that helps

  • Keynote- Can you add multiple sound tracks to one presentation

Can multiple sound tracks be added to the same presentation? For instance, can I add one sound track to play for slides 1-20 and a second, different sound track to play starting at slide 23 thru 36?

    Jonathan:
You can create a single Story from each track and set the End Jump for each Story to the next one. Set the End Jump of the last Story to your menu and assign the first one to your PLAY ALL button.
    Give it a try !

  • Multiple sounds in one button

would you kindly give me a suggestion that how to make multiple sounds in a button of a windows form application. actually, being a newb i'm trying to develop a piano application by C# for my own interest. the problem is, when i press one button it plays
too long & i had to wait until the wav file is finished & after that i had to press another button. what's the code for playing multiple sounds together in one button? u know, then i can play chords too. would you kindly explain or give a code?

    Hi Rinku,
This is an example for you:

  • Lost the ability to play multiple sounds!

Since switching to archlinux, the only problem that I am unable solve is the inablity to play multiple sounds.. i had this problem when i first installed archlinux. back then i tried installing pulseaudio and found that cumbersome. eventually went back to alsa and found magically i could play sounds at once..
now again it has reoccurred ever since the module init tools upgrade. i have tried reconfiguring alsa with alsaconf with no avail.
on trying to play sound file from the 2nd app i get a knotif saying

  • Play multiple sounds

    Hello!
How can I play multiple sounds at once please?
I tried with 2 separate soundChannel vars but they still override eachother.
    Thanks

play both sounds through the same sound channel? eg:

  • Flash Player playing multiple sound feeds at once...even when browser is closed

I recently updated my Flash Player to 11.3 (most recent version). When I go to a site which utilizes Flash (e.g. YouTube), I will start the video, and then about 10 seconds later, I get multiple sound feeds at the same time. They all sound like commercials, or tv channels. Even when I close my browser, the sound continues. When I open my sound mixer, there is a "program" listed of "winrscmde" which is playing the various audio channels all at once. When I go into the task manager, "winrscmde" shows as a svchost.exe *32. When I stop that service the sound stops. It will start again when i access a flash site. When I uninstall Flash Player 11.3, this stops.
    I'm running Windows 7 - 64 bit with latest updates. IE 9.0.8112.16421
    Any help would be appreciated.

Well, I think I fixed the problem.
    I found this topic:
    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic442928.html
About the second post down, the poster recommends downloading TDS killer as winrscmde.exe is disquised as svchhost.exe in the \windows\system32 folder (you have to click on "Properties", then "Details" tab and check the original filename...if it's bogus, it'll say winrscmde.exe as the original name).
I also ran the aswMBR program as well as FixTDSS (http://www.symantec.com/content/en/us/global/removal_tool/threat_writeups/FixTDSS.exe).
That seemed to fix the issue. Just reinstalled Flash and don't get the same issues. The svchost.exe in the \windows\system32 folder is legit!
Hope that helps anyone else with the same problem.

  • New external instrument bug? (please test)

Just updated to Logic 9.0.1 and i think i've found a new bug with the external instrument plug-in. When i adjust the "input volume" parameter the slider shoots down to "-24 db" and however much i try to adjust this, it snaps back to this "-24 db" setting. I cant adjust it at all!!!
    Can someone else please confirm?

I've heard people complaining about some of the lack of testing that goes on, but in this case it's kind of funny; no one thought to just move the sliders to check?
I mean. Wow. Really. Just. Wow.
It's kind of hilarious, at least with the I/O plugin - since latency compensation has been the feature which is the catalyst for many an angry PT vs LP debate. To not get that simple plugin right on the first get go only reaffirms what a lot of people already think about LP (Bare in mind I'm an LP only user - but one, hopefully, with an open mind and a sense of humour.)
    Edit:
I should add that the "pings" I did do with the I/O plugin saw a sample offset of +1. Which is beyond negligible really. That means Logic's roundtrip calculations were already pretty accurate.
