External insturment: possible to hear just processed sound?

Is it possible for logic to only play the processed sound of a midi device running through the external audio instrument? For example, I'm trying to use a guitar sound from my VL70-m sound module and run it through guitar amp for processing, and would like to only hear the processed amp sound, not a mixture of processed and original.
It seems that when using the external audio instrument, the sound of the external midi instrument is routed to the outputs twice, once in the midi section, and once again as an external audio instrument (this can be "seen" by lowering the track volume of the external instrument. The original midi signal is still heard). Is there anyway to have the entire midi signal run through the external plugin only, allowing me to only hear the processed results?
Thanks in advance for your help. I truly appreciate it!\
edit: incase it helps, here is my signal flow. I am not using an audio interface, instead am using core audio and directly plugin in my midi sound module into the audio input on my G5. I am then running the output to my speakers. Thus my inclination that this "double" problem originates in Logic.

Turns out I had a misunderstanding on how the processed sound would sound. All is well in Logic Town.

I just got it back from the apple store and they reset it (becuase it kept shutting down and not turning back on).
I put in a new password because i needed to start over from factory settings, but now it doesnt let me log in anymore. (I don't know if this is because it doesnt accpet my password, or I forgot my password in less than 5 minutes, or because when i typed in my new password, i typed it in wrong twice)
Command R doesnt work, all i hear is a sound, but nothing happens.

What I don't understand is why it is rejecting a password I am creating.
Perhaps the password you are creating is too short, or has characters that are not allowed, or is not secure enough because it is a word in a dictionary.
FileVault may have standards for what it considers an acceptable password. If the password is part of the 128-bit encryption scheme, it might have to be 16 characters, for example. (Don't know if that is true, but it's a possibility.) Check your documentation for password requirements.

I unplug my MacBook Pro from power and external speaker and I hear  incremental beeps and sounds as if email being sent. Doesn't' stop until I close email.   Not sure what is happening our what if any emails are being sent.

You can install Temperature Monitor and have a look if the CPU oder GPU oder something else went to hot. The processor has a built in safety mechanism to shut down the computer before taking damage.

  • HT1751 Question: Is it possible to move just part of my iTunes content (i.e. TV shows) to an external harddrive, keeping the rest of the content in place?  Several seasons of TV shows are taking up 102 GB of space, and I'm completely out of space on my HD

Is it possible to move just part of my iTunes content (i.e., only TV shows), keeping the rest of the Library in place?  I have purchased several seasons of some TV shows, which take up 102 GB on my harddrive, inside my iTunes Media Folder.  I don't want to move my entire Library of music and apps etc to the external harddrive (HD), but I rarely watch the TV shows, so wouldn't mind them being located on an external HD, which I would plug in before trying to watch the shows through iTunes?
    Any advice?
    Thanks!

I don't think you can simultaneously have two libraries open. But you can have your media spread across multiple disk drives. Just change your iTunes preferences such that the option "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" is not selected. That way, new items can remain on your external drive if that's where you add them from.
The only caution is if you ever add items to your library from some "temporary" location, such as a USB drive. With these preference changes, iTunes would keep the native file on the USB drive, which would possibly lead to you deleting the file and losing the link. So, when you have your preferences to allow you to add new items to iTunes without copying them to the iTunes Music folder, you would want to put the native files in the desired location first, then add to iTunes.
To move existing videos and podcasts to the external drive, you can either do that as you have been (moving the native files and correcting the ! warning), or simply delete them from the library (but keep the native files) then re-add them from their new location on the external drive (you'd lose play history and ratings though, but may not be an issue for videos and podcasts).

  • Is it possible to turn off the sound and just vibrate for incoming email?

Is it possible to turn off the sound on my Verizon iPhone 4 and just have it vibrate for incoming email. Can't seem to find any way to do this!

You could either flip the mute switch or go to Settings > Sounds > New Mail = Off

  • Turning OFF direct source (guitar) and hearing just plug in? How to?

In Nuendo I think you just hit the monitor button or in my case open Mackie control panel and turn down the volume (if loaded) and then all I hear is the plug in and guitar sim and
    NO actual sound.
Looking to do the same in Logic.
Right now I hear both processed and non-processed.
    Thanks!

    Two possible monitoring sources:
    1) Output from Logic--something routed to your audio interface from Logic (track/channel, aux, bus)
    2) Direct monitoring through your audio interface
You need to turn one of them off to avoid doubling/phasing.
If you're happy monitoring the dry signal, just turn off "Software Monitoring" in the Logic Audio/Driver prefs. Or mute any objects assigned to that input. That'll kill #1.
If you need to monitor through Logic to hear the processing, you'll need to disable direct monitoring (#2), which will be controlled from outside Logic--either via software, or directly on your hardware.

  • I am having to run v3.5.10 because even now with latest 3.6 that version - every 30 seconds or so I hear a process open and then close. Can't track it down even in task manager - too brief but it's insistent! So stuck having to use 3.5

I have to use V3.5.10 despite wanting to run 3.6 (just updated to 3.6.6 too). However when I run 3.6 I hear thru my sounds set up a process open briefly and then close every 30 seconds or so - it's very regular and insistent and I'd like to know what it is and why. It's too brief to spot in Task manager processes listing. This did happen once under 3.5 I seem to recall but was cured when it upgraded.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== Pretty much soon after I first applied and ran 3.6

My Win sounds give me a sound each time an app or process opens and another when it closes - thus I know from that any time something happens.
I have 3.6.6 on as well as 3.5.10 - so can run either. But running .3.6.6 despite being update still has this odd process open and close every half minute.

    Hi Emma,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
I understand that your Thunderbolt display is just showing a black screen when you boot your computer. The following article should be of help in troubleshooting your display.

  • When I am connected with Firefox I am hearing a background sound of a door opening and closing.

Starting about one month ago I have been hearing a background sound of a door opening or closing. When opening, it is the sound of a latch turning and then a creaking door sound, and when closing it is the sound of a slamming latch. It is intermittent, ocurring every 5-10 minutes or so when connected with Firefox. There is no apparent problem associated with sounds, I'm just wondering why it's happening and what it might mean.

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode? <br />

I have two hard drives on my mac 10.5.8 power pc and hear the clickking sounds of the first hard drive and think that it may be dying, can I install everything on the other hard drive also and wait for the first drive to die before i use the other drives? Or, what is the best way to handle this?

I do not know what you are waiting for.
I'd make a backup of your important stuff before cloning the entire disk.
Carbon Copy Cloner will copy your startup drive to an external  firewire drive.  You can boot from the external drive to verify that you have a good clone. When you upgrade your existing startup drive, you can at any time boot from your external drive and go back to your existing system.

SuperDuper is the wildly acclaimed program that makes recovery painless, because it makes creating a fully bootable backup painless. Its incredibly clear, friendly interface is understandable, easy to use, and SuperDuper's built-in scheduler makes it trivial to back up automatically. And it runs beautifully on both Intel and Power PC Macs!

  • If i have Time Machine backed up on an external hard drive, do i just plug the drive into another macbook pro and all my stuff is in the new computer?  also, does it matter if the new computer is running Lion when the backed up info came from Snow Leopard

    No and Yes
Don't use TM for this purpose, clone your drive to an external, plug the external into another MBP and reboot from it. Please note that booting a machine that came with Lion may not be possible from a drive with Snow Leopard.

Is it possible to hear a soundtrack in a pdf file with an iPad ?

Sorry, but Reader for iPad or iPhone does not yet support sound or video.
You should get PDF Expert from Readdle. It costs US$9.99 but it's a much better reader, and, among other great features, supports multimedia.

  • When i press power button i hear several click sounds before start up?

When I press power button I hear several click sounds before start up begins. Shortly after Apple logo appears it clicks off.

Which MacBook Pro do you have? If it has an optical drive then that is just the optical drive checking if there is a disk inserted.
