External & internal hierarchies

Need some clarity on external & Internal hierarchies , their architecture ,where & when used  .Can someone put ligth on this topic.

John has clearly stated what the main differences are.
In addition, if you are modeling a time dependent hierarchy there are some things to keep in mind. There are certain reporting scenarios that are not possible if modeled as a external hierarchy.
Read the following documentation for more info. The reporting scenario # 3(report the historical truth) on page 52 is not possible if the model is based on external hierarchy.

  • Incoming Sharepoint Mail: External/Internal Domain Environment

We have setup Incoming Sharepoint 2010 Mail both on Sharepoint side and on the Exchange 2007 side (Send Connector setup). And we have no problem delivering mail from Exchange to Sharepoint.
We have an External/Internal Domain setup.
Our Windows DNS does not own the “A” record for our External domain Name @external.Domain.com.
All mailboxes/mail-enabled contacts/UDG’s/USGS are stamped with our External domain Name: @external.Domain.com because within Exchange an accepted domain (Internal Relay Type) was created for @external.Domain.com.
Sharepoint is part of our Internal Windows domain. Sharepoint mail-enabled contacts are created as
    [email protected]
Per Incoming mail technote: we created Active Directory Org Unit for Share Point mail-enabled contacts. These contacts replicated to Exchange Recipient Management Console and then of course
to the Outlook Global Address List; however, the contacts are not a routable address because they are stamped @windows.Internal.Domain.com.  If we add @external.Domain.com which is a routable address, mail is delivered to the Sharepoint Site.
    Q. One thing we do not want is within our Outlook Global Address List, to show two SMTP domain names, i.e., @windows.Internal.Domain.com and @external.Domain.com this would be
too confusing for our users. Also changing each mail-enabled contact to the routable address (@external.Domain.com would be a nightmare. Any suggestions or assistance would be greatly appreciated?

It doesn't need to be a nightmare, you simply have to create a Recipient Update Policy and apply it to the OU containing your contacts/DLs. You also need to configure SharePoint to use external.domain.com instead of the internal domain.

  • Conversion exit ALPHA, external- internal

What does the below Alpha Conversion do :
    <b>Conversion exit ALPHA, external->internal</b>
An example wud help me understand better!!

    Hi,
A conversion routine is identified by its five-place name and is stored as a group of two function modules. The function modules have a fixed naming convention. The following function modules are assigned to conversion routine xxxxx:
    CONVERSION_EXIT_xxxxx_INPUT
    CONVERSION_EXIT_xxxxx_OUTPUT
The INPUT module performs the conversion from display format to internal format. The OUTPUT module performs the conversion from internal format to display format.
E.g. If you specify ALPHA conversion for Material number then when user enters the value for MATNR as 123; internally it is converted to 0000123 and is stored in that format in the database. In this case, conversion is done from external format to internal format and the other way if you are reading value from database; it is converted from internal to external format and value is shown as 123, instead of 0000123.
    Hope this helps.

  • Capturing cost of external & internal services

    Hello
Can I be guided regarding configuration for cost capturing for external & internal services. Is this same as we are doing for break down orders by maintaining cost variants and valuation variants. Please advise.
    Thanks

In case of External Service, PM03 control key will be used. In that configuration, service check box would have been selected. Further to that, service masters for the services will be created. Those services will be assigned in Maintenance order.
In turn, PR will be created for those services with reference to Maintenance order, further PO will be created.
While creating Service entry sheet for the above PO, cost will be posted to Maintenance Order as PO & Service entry sheet are linked to Maintenance order.
In case of internal services, Activity types will be created & will be assigned to labor work center. In KP26, activity pricing will be maintained. Based on planned hours in maintenance order & actual hours in confirmation, planned cost & actual cost will be calculated.
As you know, costing variant will be defined for Internal & external processing, cost will be calculated based on that.
Also these costing variants should be assigned to Plant & order type combination.

  • Both External & Internal Batch Numbers

We have turned on batch management @ material level. Is it possible to have both external and internal batches.
    Eg.
    M1 has external batch no.
    M2 has internal batch no.
    M1 is ROH
M2 is Fert, whose batch will be generated during autoGR
    Regards.

    Hi,
What Mr. Rajesha told is right It is not possible to have two different type of batch no assignmenmt External & Internal Batch Numbers.
You can use some of the standard User Exits or develop a custom user exit for this purpose.
You can use SAP enhancement SAPLV01Z for internal batch number assignment. This enhancement contains two function module exits that you can use to define number ranges or templates for batch numbers:
EXIT_SAPLV01Z_001. You use this exit to replace the number range object and/or interval proposed by the system with your own number range object and/or interval.
In addition, you can, for instance, stop the system from assigning an internal number depending on the material or plant. You can also use this exit to stop the dialog box from appearing.
EXIT_SAPLV01Z_002. Using this exit, you can either change the number assigned by the system, or assign your own number.
There are many such user exits, please check and use the appropriate user exit.

  • Best practices of having a different external/internal domain

In the midst of migrating from a joint Windows/Mac server environment to a completely Apple one. Previously, DNS was hosted on the Windows machine using the companyname.local internal domain. When we set up the Apple server, our Apple contact created a new internal domain, called companyname.ltd. (Supposedly there was some conflict in having a 10.5 server be part of a .local domain - either way it was no worries either way.) Companyname.net is our website.
The goal now is to have the Leopard server run everything - DNS, Kerio mailserver, website, the works. In setting up the DNS on the Mac server this go around, we were advised to just use companyname.net as the internal domain name instead of .ltd or .local or something like that. I happen to like having a separate local domain just for clarity's sake - users know if they are internal/external, but supposedly the Kerio setup would respond much better to just the one companyname.net.
So after all that - what's the best practice of what I should do? Is it ok to have companyname.net be the local domain, even when companyname.net is also the address to our external website? Or should the local domain be something different from that public URL? Or does it really not matter one way or the other? I've been running companyname.net as the local domain for a week or so now with pretty much no issues, I'd just hate to hit a point where something breaks long term because of an initial setup mixup.
Thanks in advance for any advice you all can offer!

Part of this is personal preference, but there are some technical elements to it, too.
You may find that your decision is swayed by the number of mobile users in your network. If your internal machines are all stationary then it doesn't matter if they're configured for companyname.local (or any other internal-only domain), but if you're a mobile user (e.g. on a laptop that you take to/from work/home/clients/starbucks, etc.) then you'll find it a huge PITA to have to reconfigure things like your mail client to get mail from mail.companyname.local when you're in the office but mail.companyname.net when you're outside.
For this reason we opted to use the same domain name internally as well as externally. Everyone can set their mail client (and other apps) to use one hostname and DNS controls where they go - e.g. if they're in the office or on VPN, the office DNS server hands out the internal address of the mail server, but if they're remote they get the public address.
For the most part, users don't know the difference - most of them wouldn't know how to tell anyway - and using one domain name puts the onus on the network administrator to make sure it's correct which IMHO certainly raises the chance of it working correctly when compared to hoping/expecting/praying that all company employees understand your network and know which server name to use when.
Now one of the downsides of this is that you need to maintain two copies of your companyname.net domain zone data - one for the internal view and one for external (but that's not much more effort than maintaining companyname.net and companyname.local) and make sure you edit the right one.
It also means you cannot use Apple's Server Admin to manage your DNS on a single machine - Server Admin only understands one view (either internal or external, but not both at the same time). If you have two DNS servers (one for public use and one for internal-only use) then that's not so much of an issue.
Of course, you can always drive DNS manually by editing the zone files directly.

  • Advice on hard drives for a dual 2.5 G5. External/Internal, USB/Firewire ?

    Hey guys-
I'm using my G5 as my main computer in a home based recording studio and I'm running out of drive space. I currently have the 2 internal drives: MAIN 160 GB (13GB available) & 300 GB (9 GB available) and one USB external 500 GB with 12GB
available. I know I'm dangerously low on all of them so my question is: what would be the best way to add more space? I'm really concerned on how fast my programs can access the data since I run a lot of instruments and audio samples.
    Should I:
Buy one large internal drive (1.5TB) and use it as my main drive with the others as back-ups? If so which ones do you recommend?
Buy an external drive (1.5tb) in either Firewire or USB? I know Firewire is faster but does it matter when it comes to most applications?
Also, if I go with one large HD either way, would I lose any advantages over say several smaller ones?
Finally, how is the best way to replace your main drive with a larger one without having to re-install everything all over again?
Thanks SO much for the help:)

    Hi-
The best thing that you could do for performance AND space, would be to replace both internal hard drives.
Install a WD6400AAKS 640GB as boot drive, and have one of the fastest, cool and quiet, 7200 RPM all around performing drives to run system and apps.
Install a WD1001FALS 1TB Black as the second data/scratch drive for loads of space, high performance and reliability.
Then, to back it all up, add at least another 1TB firewire drive.
USB isn't as reliable of an interface as firewire, nor is it as fast (overall).
    Stick with firewire.
To keep from reinstalling everything, take out the 300GB drive, and install the 640GB (or whatever new boot) drive.
Use Disk Utility to format the new hard drive.
After formatting, use SuperDuper! to clone the 160GB drive to the new drive.
    http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html
Once the cloning is complete, open System Preferences/Startup Disk, select the new drive as startup drive, and reboot.
After checking the clone for proper operation (all applications open, Mail works, etc.) remove the 160GB drive and install the new drive in it's slot.
Install the 1TB drive (or whatever) in slot 2, format it, and you are all done.

  • Exchange 2013 autodiscover finds external & internal SSL certificate causing autodiscover to fail

<p>Hi:</p><p>I'm currently working on a windows 2012 server, with exchange 2013, lets say our internal domain is "cars.com" and ALSO the case for&nbsp;our external domain. We have purchased an SSL wildcard positive certificate
*.cars.com so that we could configure Outlook Anywhere, we have created the needed DNS records at godaddy and our internal server, OWA, ECP it all works if you go to&nbsp; <a href="https://bird.cars.com/owa">https://bird.cars.com/owa</a>
because we have a DNS record for bird in godaddy and out local server, so all of that is working like a pro ! here comes the tricky part, our website is registered in godaddy but hosted by someone else a company called poetic systems; when we test the connection
with the remote connectivity analyzer website we get a very peculiar error that says SSL certificate not valid, now it provides the name of the certificate it found and is not ours, we found that the hosting company is listening in port 443, therefore, it
is pulling their self signed certificate also, does anyone have a fix for this, I have done this same setup before for other companies and this is the first time a situation like this happens. I REALLY NEED HELP !!!!!</p>

    Hi,
According to your description, there is a certificate error when you test Outlook Anywhere connection by ExRCA.
If I misunderstand your meaning, please feel free to let me know.
And to understand more about the issue, I’d like to confirm the following information:
    What’s detail error page?
Check the Outlook Anywhere configuration: get-outlookanywhere |fl
    Check the certificate : get-exchangecertificate |fl
If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.

  • MPLS - How are external/internal routes distinguished?

    Hi all
I was setting up an MPLS environment and wanted to get some more information about how MPLS VPN's work. Basically I have three sites connected to the MPLS cloud. Site A runs EIGRP on the customer side and Site B runs OSPF on the customer side. Site C is the one in question. The way I have it designed, Sites A and C have full visability into one another and sites B and C have full visibility into one another. When I configure site C with eigrp, all proper routes are seen, but the OSPF routes from site B are seen as EIGRP external routes. When I switch site C to OSPF, EIGRP routes from site A are seen as OSPF External type 2 routes. I guess my ultimate question is, How does the PE router at site C know the originating protocol? All the routes it receives are from BGP. Does a certain attribute carry this? If so, is this feature specific to Cisco gear or an RFC standard? Thanks in advance for all your help. I can include configs if that would help, below I'll show you my RD and RT's for each VRF and the routing tables of the CE router at Site C before and after the change.

    Hello Edward,
I see nothing strange in the results you have posted. They are completely natural to the process of carrying customer routes over MPLS L3 VPN.
You know yourself that the customer routes are carried between PE routers using BGP, and from PE towards CE, these routes are redistributed from BGP into the particular routing protocol running between PE and CE. Each of these routing protocols automatically marks redistributed networks as external networks. For OSPF, this is a normal part of the open protocol specification - that routes injected into OSPF via redistribution shall be represented as external routes (and carried in LSA-5). Similarly, when you redistribute into EIGRP from a different routing protocol, these routes will be carried by EIGRP as external networks. So what you see here is natural and normal. Even if all sites ran the same routing protocol (EIGRP or OSPF), one site would see networks from other sites as external routes.
In fact, there are extensions to BGP using extended community attributes that try to preserve the original nature of the redistributed routes. The prerequisite is that all sites run the same IGP, either OSPF or EIGRP. In that case, EIGRP routes carried over MPLS can be made look like internal routes although they are redistributed, and OSPF will make the routes appear as inter-area routes, not as external routes. There is even a modification to OSPF allowing you to see other sites as intra-area routes (though this requires configuring so-called OSPF sham links between PEs). All of this is done because an internal network is always preferred to an external network. This causes trouble if there is a backup link directly interconnecting two sites, bypassing the MPLS cloud. As the routing protocol run over this link advertises all networks as internal, this link would always be preferred to the MPLS VPN which is exactly the opposite of what you want to do.
Please feel welcome to ask further!
    Best regards,
    Peter

  • HP Stream 8 tablet cant see external & internal drives at same time

I have an HP Stream 8 tablet. I have plugged an OTG 64gb flash memory card Sandisk Dual USB drive into the tablet charging slot. The Tablet recognises all of the 64gb of storage & can read & write to the drive with no problems.
However, when an external storage  drive is plugged in, the device cannot see the 32gb sandisc micro usb , which I installed . The tablet only seems to be able to see 1 removable drive at one time, which is frustrating as I cant then copy items from the micro sd to an external drive.
Is there a way to make windows/hp stream tablet see all drives at the same time. I have insufficient space on the built in 32gb drive , after win 8.1, office 365 & other programmes are installed so I can't  copy items onto that drive.
When the external flash is connected, I can only see the C: Drive & the plugged in flash drive. When the external flash drive is disconnected, I can then see the c: Drive & the microsd32gb card.
One of the problems I think is that the tablet doesnt seem to always assign drive letters to extra storage drives. How do I activate this?

It's something to do with the OTG 64gb flash memory card Sandisk Dual USB drive.  Mine sees an internal 64GB uSD & a flash drive connected with an OTG cable.  Drive letter asssignment is a Windows thing.  You can customize it with USBDLM.

  • Mac Pro External/ Internal RAID for video

I'm going to purchase a Mac Pro for use in video editing/capture. Use of Mac RAID card with internal drives (1TB) seems a good way to host applications and protect data, perhaps RAID 0+1. This could be a good starting point but I'm unsure if there would be sufficient bandwidth to also support HD video capture with some data protection and later editing. Probably start wi Canon Vixia HD camcorder and AVCHD files, but video could come from anywhere.
Thought of adding an external RAID system such as the CalDigit HDOne. Questions:
    1. Can both the CalDigit and Mac RAID cards be used in the same Pro system?
    2. Might it be better to use SW RAID with the internal Mac drives and use the CalDigit HDOne for manipulating the video data?
I'm a beginner here with video editing - frank answers will be appreciated!

i still don't see any advantage to apples expensive raid card where you can only use apple drives.
the question of total internal bandwidth of the 6 internal sata ports came up in a recent thread and the resulting figure seems to be 2000 MB/s for all 6.
And hard drives in the MacPro are not hot-swappable, RAID or not.
The CalDigit HDOne is pretty. But it doesn't seem to support RAID 10. Like me, you would like to at least experiment with RAID 10. But it does do 6. It seems to ship with only one cable. Peanuts i suppose, but there are most probably two ports on the enclosure and you would need two cables to use 8 bays. They do offer 30 day satisfaction guarantee though. Seems expensive to me. I'm probably missing something.
    i just purchased a;
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Highpoint%20Technologies/RR2314/
    and a;
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Sans%20Digital/TR5MB/
i figure that is more efficient to maximize port usage per purchase, i.e. 5 bays per port instead of 4.
The rocket 2314 does do 10 but not 6. And has a 3 year guarantee.

  • PA30 - Copying a Personnel No & adding email details (External & internal)

    Hi,
In PA30, Is is possible to do the following:
    1. Copy an HR Person (Personnel No.) to a new Person. For example, the new one will be created from the copied one.
    2. Add an email address (external) to a Person (Personnel No.)
How are the above action done?
    Thanks,
    John

You q. no 1. copying personnel no whereby creating a new personnel no as such is isnt possible.Personnel no gets genereated during hiring actions with 0000 as INS which doesnt happen otherwise.
q.no 2: ye su can give external email address in infotype 0105 (COMMUNICATION) in subtype MAIL, however there is another subtype for email 0010, BUT reserve it for using internal email id as most function modules/bapis etc and other programs /reports consider 0010 than MAIL subtype.

  • External/Internal Candidate information in e-recruiting

    Hello all
I'm doing a workflow and i need to identify some information about candidate like type of candidate (internal or external). I tried to find the information from table hrp5102 but I found nothing concerning the type of candidate. I've been thinking in table USREFUS, this table contain reference user for internet applications:
    RCF_CAND_EXT for External Candidate
    RCF_CAND_INT for Internal Candidate
Any of you can tell me if there is a better way to do this.
    Thanks for all
    Emilio Ciotta

    Dear Emilio,
To be able to use the workflow functions, you must create a system user (such as WF-BATCH) in the standard system.
For more information, see the Implementation Guide for SAP E-Recruiting under Technical Settings ® Workflow ® Workflow in E-Recruiting.
In SAP E-Recruiting you must also assign this user (in addition to the other users) to a candidate. You can do this by using the RCF_CREATE_USER report.
Also you will need the correct authorizations : External candidate  SAP_RCF_EXTERNAL_CANDIDATE
                                                                               Internal candidate   SAP_RCF_INTERNAL_CANDIDATE

    Hope it helps
