EXTERNAL IOMEGA TRIPLE INTERFACE

Hello, I'm new here, and would like to ask a question re: Iomega Triple Interface external hard drive.
I need to store info in a separate place, and have no dvd record mode on this computer, and there is a good deal TODAY only on the above Iomega storage.
Having read these boards, people seem to be either very much for or equally against Iomega. I've used their Zip drives before which were fine. Could someone just give me a simple answser as to whether or not this external hard drive would be OK for me, i just need to drag and drop, I do not have a great deal of stuff on my computer, but need to keep it really badly, for legal reasons. Having had an earlier Mac destroyed by a 'certified' apple dealer before, and having as a result had to have my hard drive info retreived at huge cost by DriveSavers, I would like to avoid that.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Also, what kind of FireWire connector do I need for this computer, as the Iomega doesn't come with a Fire Wire lead for some reason. Is it a 6pin connector, or a 4 pin.
I only have FireWire 400.
Thanks so much.
ibook G3 800 mhz   Mac OS X (10.2.x)   using OS 10.2.8, also 0S9 Classic

re my question.......too late , iomega has sold out. so, no need for anyone to answer.

  • Can I use  a MY Book Pro external 500 gig Triple interface HD with FCE?

    Hey everyone,
I just recently bought a Macbook pro and purchased FCE HD 3.5. I want to purchase a high capacity external HD. I want it mainly for my projects with FCE and other members of the family will be backing up to it. I want to keep my projects on the external and work on them from there not my main HD.
After doing some online research I was about to purchase the LaCie Big Disk Extreme. However there seemed to be a lot of bad reviews about early disk failures. The G Technology drives sound great but are a little pricey.
I came across the MY Book Pro addition 500 gig Triple interface HD from Western Digital and found that the 500 gig pro had similar spec to the LaCie but they never mention in the specs that it can be used for video editing. They only mention "Fast enough for video editing" in the 1TB raid 0 version. I'm just wondering if anyone is having success using the My Book Pro Edition. I checked the forums first and even check specs from apple on external drives and FCE but I was hope for some real use advise. I'm not trying to cheap out, I'm just trying not to buy a lemon & get the most storage and speed for my buck. I'll buy they higher end if I should. My video productions right now are 10 minute long movies with some video clips and stills but I'm hoping to advance to bigger (High Def) things. Any advise in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
The specs from Western Digital are as follows:
    My Book™ Pro Edition™
    External Hard Drives
    500 GB, Triple Interface
    Rotational Speed
    7,200 RPM (nominal)
    Average Latency
    4.20 ms (nominal)
    Seek Times
    Read Seek Time
    8.9 ms
    Track-To-Track Seek Time
    2.0 ms (average)
    Serial Transfer Rate
    FireWire 800
    Serial Bus Transfer Rate (1394b)
    800 Mbits/s (Max)
    Macbook Pro 17" 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The 500GB MyBook Pro should work fine. Just be sure to use a Firewire connection (not USB) to your Mac and format the drive as Mac OS Extended - Journaled. It will come from the factory as FAT32, so you'll need to reformat it. But wait - don't reformat it until you offload the ButtonManager, FW Driver and Retrospect software. You will need the first two to install your drive.
And that's one of the reasons I stay away from the MyBook drives - they were really designed for Windows systems, not Macs. For one, they have their own FireWire drivers and I see no reason to be required to install device-specific drivers on my Mac in order to use a consumer-grade hard drive. As far as I'm concerned, that's just bad design (or, perhaps design for systems other than Macs ...).
The 500GB Lacie Big Disk did get a bunch of bad reviews. However, the 500GB Lacie d2 Extreme is the same price and has much better reviews. The Lacie d2 Extreme drives are quite reliable; I have many and not one of them has failed me over the years. The 320GB d2 Extreme is currently $140 at newegg.com. See how that compares to the price of the MyBook.

  • External Iomega 160GB HD

I just purchased an Iomega 160GB external HD. I know the unit doesn't have the Oxford 911 chipset installed. I wish to partition it into two equal partitions so that I can use one letter drive to backup data from my PC and the other letter drive to backup my iBook. The Iomega disk is in FAT32 format, is that format acceptable for my MAC OSX(tiger).
Do I need to format the HD on my PC to create the partitions or can I perform this using OSX. How do I format using OSX?
After I have partitioned the HD is there a method of allowing the MAC partition to handle a 'carbon copy' of the OSX operting system; and can I use this OSX as a backup to my iBook drive if necessary.
    Ron

    Ron,
I am a complete amateur at drive configuration, but I just bought a 160 GB Iomega Black Series Triple Interface external hard drive which I have finally got working on my PC w/ Windows XP and my eMac w/ OS 10.3.
What finally worked was to reformat the whole drive in NTFS using Windows' Disk Manager, then format a smaller primary partition (40GB in my case)in FAT32 using the directions MicroSoft provides at this Web address http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;310525
I keep all my "valuable" documents on the PC and use Iomega's software to do periodic full disk image backups and "every time I make a change" document and data backups. I formatted the FAT 32 space so I can use the Iomega to move large files like photo albums and complete iTune libraries back and forth between my PC and my eMac.
I can't guarantee this will work for you, but it does appear to have worked for me.

  • Peripheral for external Iomega Zip MAC 100 & Mac Book Pro

I would like to download files from an external Iomega Zip Mac 100 but the peripheral is not compatible with my MacBook Pro 13".
What do I need to get in order to do this, and will I also need to download a driver for the Mac to see it?
    Thank you.

I haven't used a ZIP drive with a Mac in over a decade... I have no idea what sort of interface the Iomega device has? Do you know?
More likely than not, you're going to have to find some computer that has the right interface.

  • Is it possible to use External Defiantion in Interface Mapping?

    Hi Experts,
Is it possible to use External defination in Interface mapping? I used this ED in Message Mapping but I am unable to use the same ED for Interface Mapping?
In order to create Interface Mapping I need to create Message Interface and use it in Interface Mappiong?
    Thanks
    Rajeev

    Hi Rajeev,
External definitions is for importing avaliable external DTD,XSD or WSDLs instead of creating them in XI environment maually by creating elements under datatypes, assigning them too Message types and Message Interfaces etc.Where as you fo for Imported Archives to import externally done Mapping programs like JAVA,ABAP and  XSLT mappings but not define Mesage interfaces.
So you can create message interface import appropriate External definition into it.Later use it during interface mapping.Hope you understand it.
    Thanks,
    Ram.

  • External usb/firewire interface

    Hi,
I'm thinking of using getting an external USB Audio Interface, and would like some suggestions about products that work well with logic express and my Macbook Pro.
I need something that will allow all my band to hook at once (at least 5 inputs) and hear, with headphones, at the same time (at least 5 outputs).
I was considering the M-Audio Fast Track Ultra.
    Has anyone tried it?

I would second using a Firewire interface, I've had both USB and Firewire and found the latter to be far more steady. I think you would find a lot of people would warn you away from the M-audio interfaces, their drivers are famously poor. Presonus makes some really solid interfaces with great pre's. The Firestudio or FP-10 go for $300-$500 depending on where you shop and how good you are at talking salespeople down. From personal experience I would spend the extra money on the new Firestudio, I've been very happy with the one I've been working with.

  • External Iomega HDD automatically ejecting by itself

Hello all, has anyone had any problems with an external Iomega HD dismounting by itself (also getting improper dismount error after the fact)? If so, what was your solution?

    I'm having the same problem
    "Error Message:

The device you removed was not properly put away. Data might have been lost or damaged. Before you unplug your device, you must first select its icon in the Finder and choose Eject from the File menu."
I'm getting a pretty nasty clicking sound, so I presume that the hdd is done. Will be contacting iomega for a refund. Strangely enough, the drive seems to restart writing (clicking) after it is removed.

  • Any fix for external Iomega HDD won't mount to iMac OSX 10.8.5 Desktop?

I have a 750GB Iomega external HDD that I've used for several years to back up my iMac (OSX 10.8.5) with Time Machine.  No problems.  Computer locked up while searching on the internet last night, requiring a restart.  The external HDD never came back up on my desktop,  It has power and all cable connectors are tight.  The disk powers up and runs, but it just repeats its attempt to mount over and over, but won't show up on the desktop.  So I can't run Disk Utility or any diagnostic software, since it isn't accessible form the iMac.
Any suggestions?  I'm guessing my only option is to bite the bullet and buy a replacement backup hard drive, and start over from scratch in Time Machine.  My attempts to look for help on the Iomega site have been frustrated by the new post merger Lenovo-EMC based site.  Practically no references found to Iomega at all!

Yes, I checked that, and I tried restarting the computer with the HD turned on, then again with the HD turned off until after the computer finished booting up before turning the HD on.  Nothing has worked to get the externa; drive to show up on the desktop.  Thanks for replying.  I'm not holding out much hope that the drive is going to work again.  I'm on my way out to pick up a new backup drive.  I figure I'll get one that is at least a TB, and 3.0 USB capable so that when the time comes that I replace my old iMac, the new drive will at least be able to back up the new equipment.

  • Noises on external USB audio interface (Yamaha MW12) with Snow Leopard

    Hi there,
I got an issue with strong noises (kind of distortion) while playing all kind of music/sounds ( itunes/Reason/Cubase) via an external USB audio device (Yamaha MW12 mixer).
    Some important facts:
+ This had not been from the very first beginning of changing to snow leopard
+ but never appeared on "leopard"
+ Yamaha mixer is still working fine with my MS-windows computer
+ latest Asio driver by Yamaha is not helping.
+ internal audio of my Mac Book Pro is working fine.
As this issue just appears 2 days before, without any change or installation on my system, I really wonder, what could be happen. As Yamaha mixer is still working fine with other computer, I expect some driver in MacOS to be the problem (as internal audio HW is working fine).
Does anybody else, know, what to do? (before I change back to MacOS 10.5)
Has anybody else have seen a similar issue?
    Thanks for helping in advance.
    Merry christmas,
    Mat

    Hi,
    just one addon.
+ Changed USB ports on MacBook and it was fine on the second used.
+ Nevertheless, noise remains on the originaly used port
+ all other connected devices as mouse and midi interface are fully functional on both ports
It still looks like a driver issue. Nevertheless, could it be a hardware issue with the USB port in my MacBook then? Even if all other tried devices are functional?
    cheers, Mat

  • Please help. I have an external Iomega drive that I cannot reformat

I recently switched from a 2.4Ghz iMac to a MacBook Pro. I was using a 500GB Iomega external drive as the TimeMachine drive on the iMac, and thought it would be fairly straightforward to restore the backup from this drive on to the PowerBook, but it looks like it (the Iomega) is totally corrupted, so I have basically given up any hope with it, (whenever I plug it in to the MacBook, it causes the whole machine to freeze, and I could only do a hard power down).
Firstly, I tried to use Disk Utility to zero out the data, (from the Macbook Startup disk). No dice.
So then I tried to use Disk Util from the Install disk (holding down C after a hard power down).
It looked like it was going to start erasing the disk, (I selected 'zero out data'), so I left it over night. But again, the same problem.
How would I go about erasing/reformatting the Iomega when it simply causes everything to lock up?
    Hoping someone can help.
    Thanks.

Try it on another machine and see how it behaves. Sounds like the drive may be worse than corrupt - it might simply be unusable.

  • Best Portable External Hard Drive Interface?

I have a MacBook Pro (just got it this year) and I need a portable external hard drive. I also want to use it on my PC. Which interface would you suggest? I am not sure which connections my PC has but I know it has USB 3.0. Is there an interface on my MacBook that's faster than USB 3.0? If so, I might forget about connecting it to my PC, assuming it's significantly faster.

Likely a combination Firewire 800/400 USB 3 drive.
Mac's don't have USB 3 yet, only USB 2,1, so you can use the Firewire 800 with your Mac and the USB3 with the PC. The USB 3 is backwards with 2,1 on the Mac too, in case you forget the 800 cable.
    See the formatting guide here
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3044
There is also Thunderbolt on the Mac's, it's REALLY fast, but you need a internal and external SSD to get anything out of it, your hard drives would be the bottleneck and you would be paying a lot of money for speed you can't use.  In the future when the price comes down and SSD's are cheap and of large capacity it would be a nice interface to use.
