External ip adress at the server network interface behind the router
Hello to all!
I am installing MacOSX Snow Leopard Server and using it behind my AirPort router as a mail and web server. I was setup Airport at the NAT section with 'Enable default host at' option and all services workning well, but one thing that i want to understand is the 'network interfaces' at the 'Server admin' of Leopard Server. There is listed only internal ip adress (10.0.1.2) that use the my server, but there is no my static external ip adress. Is it correct ? Or i should manualy also to add a external ip adress which is now actually used with my AirPort router?
If i should, so how do it correctly, using virtual interfaces at the network section or somewhere else?
So, with any Airport routers i can't to route my public static IP adress to the MacOSX Server machine? I need another router device for this, am i right?
Your Airport uses your public static IP address.
Your Airport is typically then configured to port-forward inbound traffic along to your server at your own private static IP address via NAT. The mechanism known as port-forwarding is (once it is configured) how traffic routing to your public static IP address gets routed to your private static IP address.
In general (and unless something like NAT is involved), there's only one host box active at one IP address at a time.
I am not sure, but i think that at the server network interface i should has a public static IP adress, but with this configuration i can't see it.
If you would so kind as to tell me what particular part(s) of [this article|http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/275] are confusing and why, and I'll see if I can address the confusion and to update the article.

Actually I show an error in the logs saying that one of my storage node use a loopback address. On my laptop I have a network interface and a loopback address (disabled)...when starting sn1 I show that the port 5000 is only linked to the ip address 0.0.0.0 so it is not the good ip address..although i use for configuring :

Hi all
When i am trying to configure Mirroring .i am getting the below error.
The server network address "TCP://RDEEPA:5022" can not be reached or does not exist. Check the network address name and reissue the command. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 1418)
. TCP/IP and Name pipe connection is enabled in both principle and mirror server configuration.

I have the same problem. However beginning over and over again and using other ports did not solve this unfortunately.

The last statement on the principal server gives me the following error :

From the principal server I'm able to ping the mirror server and can establish a telnet connection. When the statement gets executed even netstat gives me the following output :

Found the problem eventually. The mirroring ran as the NT_AUTORITY user instead of DOMAIN\administrator. -
On startup of Mozilla I recieve a message saying "The connection was reset ".

Is your problem with streaming audio broadcasts to and are you outside the UK ?
If so you may have fallen prey to the BBC's Content Distribution Network which often seems to produce problems they keep re-issuing advice such as:

I have had my apple mail set up for some time now, through Gmail, and it has worked fine. I recently moved into a college dorm and now my apple mail gives me this error message

I've tried everything I could think to try, including taking the SSL off, restarting, quitting apple mail, redoing all the settings, and nothing seems to be helping me connect. Also, it's possible your college is blocking traffiic from Google, so you might try changing the DNS Servers by going to System Preferences > Network > Configure > TCP/IP and enter these two:

then click Apply Now, quit System Preferences and restart Mail and any other Internet applications you were running. Check to see if Mail still gives you problems.

When i refresh the page it usually goes through as normal or does it again and needs to refresh again. Seems like every 1-2 mins i get a period of 15-20 secs of this.
Is this the connection droppping or another error altogether?? If its not actually the connection dropping will this affect gaming online (xbox 360, Battlefield 3)?
I believe Infinity is rolling out in my village (ST8 7__) (Biddulph Moor) next month. Could this be the reason? Its not the sites/pages im visiting as its happening no matter what site i visit.

1281I dont believe so no. And the speed isnt an issue for me. I live in a village in the sticks so never had over 2.5mb. The issue is the error i get all the time. Ive had problems in the past where my connection would drop and i would have to wait to connect again before continuing. That was along time ago. This seems a different error. And is instantly fixed a refresh.
So if my connection doesnt actually drop will this affect online gaming?
Could this error be due to infinity coming to my area next month?
The reasn its an issue for me at the moment is because im a memeber of a few survey sites where i get paid to take surveys. This error causes me so much trouble. I i click a survey and this error occurs then i lose that survey.... so its actually preventing me from making money :-(
I think we will be getting infinity at the end of april. But if this isnt anything to do with inifinty and is actually a problem with my line then im concerned this will continue.
Since i heard a week or so ago inifinity was rolling out in my village in april this problem seems to have started. So im guessing its due to infinty.

i have a new macbook pro 13" and every 6 minutes or so it pops up a window that says "there was a problem connecting to the server. URLS with the type 'file' are not supported". it never seems to cause any problems but is supremely annoying. how can i make this come to an end?
I tried someone's solution of taking another external disc and plugging it in, then when it showed up and time machine asked if I wanted to use it or that someone might be trying to trick me, I chose not use it. Then I shut down my computer, plugged in the original Lacie, and rebooted the computer and all seems to work fine now-- the Lacie appears on my desktop and all seeems to be in working order. Who knows why or anything else,- as weird as it gets- but for now things seemed fixed--- maybe others can try this too-- it worked for me so far.

As it happens, a connection to the Time Capsule is established usually, anyway. On occasion it doesn't.
I have a Volume, Data, on the capsule, which similarly, usually mounts, but occassionally doesn't, with access permissions denied.
Any suggestions on how begin to work out how to achieve networking seamlesness?First, restart the Time Capsule by disconnecting the power adapter and reconnecting it. If other devices on the network can see it, you can skip this step.
From the menu bar, select

Click the lock icon in the lower left corner of the window and authenticate to unlock the settings, if necessary. Click the Advanced button, then select the TCP/IP tab in the sheet that drops down. Click Renew DHCP lease.
Try again to back up.
If you still can't, open the Time Machine preference pane and delete the TC from the list of backup destinations. You may have to unlock the settings by clicking the lock icon in order to do this. Then add it back. -
I'm using Entourage 2008 v 12.3.5 and lost ability to SEND. Tried many small email tests. Server continues to leave time out message. "An operation on the server timed out. The server may be down, overloaded, or there may be too much net traffic." Comcast tells me server is not down all other network activity is fine. WHat's up with this?
Starting earlier today, this also became my problem - can receive but not send in Entourage. The account settings are correct in Entourage - I even created a new account. My Mac running 10.7.5 won't read the original Office : MAC 2008 disk, so I can't do a fix or reinstall from the disk.
This is not an issue if I log onto the Comcast site.
And so, I started using Mail but, unlike Entourage, Mail won't import my Entourage info.

Accessing a server via the Server app from outside a router firewall
So I'm trying to access my server using the Server app on a MacBook Pro outside my server network. I can access it just fine when my client is inside the server network, but I cannot connect when outside the server network.
I've done the following troubleshooting:
- I've turned off the server Firewall option available in the server's Server Admin tool
- I've set up port forwarding on my router
- I've opened up port 311 on the router
- I've placed the server outside the router DMZ zone and the Server app connects just fine
- I've checked the box "Allow remote administration using Server" in the server's Server app Settings tab
- With the router configured correctly, the Server app cannot access the server
There's something in the router that is blocking access by the Server app. Apple Enterprise support says they are sure there is no other port to open up. Is there something else I should be doing to access the server from outside the router using a client Server app?

ps - this worked fine when I just had the server hanging directly off a cable modem.I and I suspect a lot of other admins would argue you should not be making your server accessible via Server.app remotely due to security concerns. Saying that, I and again I suspect a lot of other admins also want/need to be able to remotely administer servers. There is a better way however to achieve this.
You should be running a VPN server, perhaps using your same Mac server. You should leave the firewall blocking access directly for Server.app but if your remote Mac first connects via the VPN it will then be connected securely to your internal network and then be able to use Server.app -

and my internet is connect and every thing fine with web site that I don't have register or responseThanks for responding, David. Using <Esc> and <CtrlW> might reduce the time in returning to the other tab, but does little when the triggering of a wanton alarm is very frequent. The connections I have used were extremely reliable and fast. I am using at this moment a 54 Mbps WiFi connection that lives up to its ratings in downloading & uploading data; yet, as shown in the attached image, I still get this worthless alarm. I do not know if this problem happens with my regular ISP since I have been using this tiny notebook only when traveling -- will test that once I am back mostly for curiosity, but even then if then the alarm were not triggered this would be of little consolation, since other browsers do not have the problem right now).
As a moderator, I urge you to ask the Mozilla-powers-to-be why there is no way to turn off the alarm with, say, a true/false switch in about:config (mind you, there is still old-versions junk in this config list, so it isn't we are talking about amending the constitution). Complains about this fugly alarm can be traced in the web as far back as 2010 at least. Besides, what is the advantage of the alarm for the average user? When FF users are still posing amazingly basic questions in forums of Firefox or Mozilla support, such an alarm ought to be _off_ by default and should be an option of advanced settings menu. This annoyance shows how much the critical focus on keeping a simple GUI uncluttered by trivial or higher-level messages still needs to evolve for Firefox, which I have used it since it was known a Firebird. Guess will have to switch to Chrome now while abroad.
