External keyboard and display not recognized

After upgrading to Leopard, Vista doesn't see my external keyboard and display.
Any ideas?

The display was due to Boot Camp setup deleting the old driver and needing to be run a second time. It was disappointing that the external display problem wasn't fixed, but at least release 16902 finally fixed that issue.
The keyboard is recognized if I unplug and replug it, but it has to be done each time I boot Vista.

  • External keyboard and mouse not recognized after waking from sleep

This started happening all of a sudden. It was working fine before that. When I disconnect the power cable, keyboard, and then connect them back, its not recognized. To make it recognize the keyboard and mouse, I have to logout and login or restart the laptop. I looked at this related post, but the PRAM reset fix did not work for me : http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=870482
Any idea how to fix it?
    OS version: 10.9.2
    MacBook Pro 13-inch Mid 2012
Processor 2.9 GHz Intrel Core i7
    Memory 16GB 1600 MHz DDR3

I have a similar problem on our G3 iBook with Panther. Most of the keys don't work, and of the four or five that do, they print only gibberish.
For a while I had control of the "C" key, and I was able to start from the Installation CD-ROM. I ran Disk Utility. It found and repaired a whole bunch of permissions and reported no problem with the hard disk. But I still cannot use the keys, and since then I've lost the use of the "C" also.
Because I cannot use the keyboard, I cannot type in my administrator's password, and for that reason I cannot use System Preferences to start from the Installation CD-ROM. I did not see the Hardware Test on the CD-ROM, but it sounds interesting.
Any ideas on how to get back to the CD-ROM when my keyboard doesn't work?

  • External keyboard and mouse not working in closed clamshell mode

Hi - can someone help with this strange issue.  Yesterday in closed clamshall everything was working fine. Today I cannot use my external keyboard and mouse.  Note the external monitor does show the screen (after the blue flicker etc), but keyboard and mouse is just not detected.
Using Mac OS X (10.7.5).  Tried fiddling the "mirror" settings etc in the display preferences but nothing seems to help.  Really annoying....please help

    don't worry - figured it out !

  • External drive and iPod not recognized

I have a MacBook and had been using an external drive with it that is no longer recognized when i plug it in. i can't find it in the Finder, it doesn't show up on the desktop, but it lights up as if it's working. I also have an older iPod Nano (2nd gen I believe) which has the same problem... i can charge it but can't access it otherwise. both used to work but stopped working at the same time. i have a 2nd external drive which works fine, though at one point it stopped working and i had to play around with time machine to get it back. what's going on? how do i access my drives? why would they work fine and suddenly not be recognized? i haven't done anything that would have harmed the data. the iPod works fine on its own. this is very frustrating.

Well, my best advice would be to first check on another computer, your Macbook could be fine and you are simply in possession of a faulty hard drive, but because the iPod too isn't working when connected, then the USB drivers may have become corrupt.
Worst case scenario I hate to say, is that your USB hardware is faulty but I don't think that is the case.
What you can do if it is just the drivers is perform a re-install of Mac OS X, but I can't remember if there is a way to install it without losing all the data on your computer. This should however fix all the driver issues. I would recommend a clean install.
Before you do anything however, how does your Mac perform with other USB devices? E.g. your mouse, flash drive, or anything else you can test? Maybe you just have 2 dysfunctional devices which is possible. Preferably get something you can read and write to such as a flash drive or another external HD

2nd gen iPod touch only displays start-up apple icon, and is not recognized by iTunes - what to do?

Thanks, but I've checked those articles out already. I drained the battery and finally got the needs charge (battery w/red line + arrow pointing to a charging bolt), I plugged the USB into the laptop and held down the start key +home key until I saw the apple logo. However, it still was not recognized by itunes. It's been plugged in for over an hour now and the screen is cycling apple logo/low battery (battery w/red line)/and black screen.

  • Caps lock and shift not recognized from a usb or virtual keyboard on the Mac

Caps lock and shift not recognized from a usb or virtual keyboard on the Mac client.   You have to use the native keyboard or bluetooth keyboard.

    Hi,
nswint, it seems that we have to do as you described.
Corey, I have the remote desktop client installed on a iPad Air, I can input capital letters via the on-screen keyboard within the remote desktop session that we can activate by a tap on the keyboard icon in the connection bar.
    Thanks.

  • Macbook Pro main keyboard and mouse not working!!! Help desparately needed

    Dear anyone!
My the main keyboard and mouse are not working!!! Right now I connected an external keyboard and external mouse to the usb port, and those are working.
What should I do to make the main keyboard and mouse work?
Note that this started to happen when I was using Parallel (Windows on mac)
    Any input is GREATLY appreciated!!!
    Thanks!

Hopefully someone will be able to recognize what is going on here and be able to help you. If not, are you in Madison, Wisconsin? If so, I believe you have an Apple Store. You can always make an appointment with the genius bar and get help that way. The genius bar is free. Your keyboard problem sounds like some sort of a software glitch to me, and it shouldn't be too hard for someone knowledgeable to fix.
There is one thing you can do which might or might not help, but it is a good thing to do on a regular basis. Go to your Applications folder and find your Utilities folder and then find Disk Utility and drag it down to the dock. Open it and click on your hard drive by brand name in the left column and then on the First Aid tab. Click on "Repair Disk Permissions" and repeat until all disk permissions have been repaired. It might take several times. You can safely ignore the SUID warnings--they are a known issue which will probably be fixed later on. Repairing permissions is something you should always do before and after installing software--it's just good practice and will prevent many problems that can arise if you don't do this on a regular basis.
    Good luck!

  • External keyboard and modifier keys

I like to swap my "Ctrl" and "Command" modifiers keys and I've never had a problem doing this until upgrading to Lion.  If I disconnect and reconnect my external keyboard sometimes my modifier keys are reset.
Lion lets you change modifier keys per keyboard which is where I think the problem lies.  I also have duplicate listings for my external keyboard and I'm not sure how to delete the duplicates.
Does anyone know how to fix these issues?

Also, I'm not sure if it matters but my mouse and keyboard are connected through a USB hub which then connects to the Macbook Air.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but the above quoted lines from Mac Medic's post just came up in a search.
Please bear with me for a second.  I'm a long time Mac user—since the Mac Plus came out—and diehard Power Mac and Tiger fanatic, so I'm new to Mac-Intels and Snow Leopard.
I'm running my MacBook (not "Pro") in clamshell mode to drive two external monitors.  Am I risking anything by having the lid closed?
A full description of my MacBook setup is here:  https://discussions.apple.com/message/18553119#18553119
This is my only Intel Mac.  I rescued it from the trash, literally, after my wife had discarded because of a bulging battery that was making the keyboard, trackpad and mouse inoperative.  I only use it to run Photoshop 13 ("CS6") which doesn't run on my Power Mac G5 Quad.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Keyboard and touchpad not working after Windows 10 update

after udating windows 10 on my probook 4440s keyboard and touchpad not working. if i press a key for 10seconds the key then shows up in the screen. and touchpad is worst. it freezes all the time barely moves. but with usb mouse it works fine

It's known that installing Windows from an external DVD drive on a Mid 2013 MacBook Air causes that the keyboard doesn't work after finishing the installation. The fix is to install Windows by using a USB drive. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4599

  • HP notebook keyboard and mouse not working

    Hi
I spilled tea on my notebook. Now the system boots but keyboard & mouse do not work. Therefore I am not able to
login at the windows screen. When I hardboot, on pressing esc it goes to boot menu, but then the keyboard stops working
so I cannot go to safe mode or recovery mode. I also tried pressing F11 to enter BIOS, but it does not work.
I can however access it via LAN and since I had shared the C drive, I was able to recover the data. Do you have any idea
how I can restore the system now ? I do not have the recovery disks.
Are there any particular function keys to press while booting ?
Thanks a lot for your help

    Thoughts on a Soggy System:
Have you tried the obvious -- connecting an external keyboard and mouse?  If you are not near a store where you can buy these, you can order them online as a set.  Almost anything would do and Windows 7 and 8 install basic drivers for most keyboards and mice without problems when the system comes online.
If you have not waited for several days for things to REALLY dry out before attempting to get back onto the system, then you may get away with this yet - if you WAIT for a few days.  Chances are not great, but ... ?
If you can get the system to a repair shop, it is not terribly expensive to have the keyboard / touchpad replaced -- assuming that is all that is wrong with the system -- and the repair is not a lengthy process.  This might be something you can do yourself if you are skilled, disparate, in a tiny spot on the planet somewhere (without a repair shop), or like these things...
We can check for part numbers and all of that if you are interested.  You can search for for yourself, too.
    Start at
    Support and Drivers
Enter your information -- Look along the colum and Click on Manuals.  You are looking for the Maintenance Manual.
If you do not find it, provide your Exact Product number and I will look for you.
    Locate the Notebook Product Number
I am pretty sure you are going to have to have some sort of keyboard control over that system to do more than just use the hard drive to do a hard recovery of the data.  You are not at that point until you determine that you cannot access the data through the computer itseslf...
You can always send the system to HP and have it repaired.  It is not free unless you have the warranty for it - but it is not horrible to do;  HP makes the process pretty easy.  It might be worth checking if you do not have a local option available!
    Contact HP - USA
    Good Luck!

How about telling us how your keyboard & mouse are not working?  Are both using batteries or are they wired?  If batteries, have you checked and/or changed them?  Keyboard & mouse Apple's or 3rd party?  If you are still under warranty and/or have AC, call them & let Apple deal w/your problems.
If possible, try another keyboard & mouse?
