External Keyboard-Pedal to control Logics' Wah-effect?

I have a Roland FP-7 Keyboard connected to my Mac (via Midi and a M-Audio ProFire 610 box). The keyboard has three pedal inputs (damper, FC1 and FC2). In FC 2 I have a Roland EV-5 expression pedal. With this pedal I would like to control a wah-wah-effect in logic (I play a clavinet sound on my keyboard). How can I tell Logic to use this pedal as the wah-wah-controller?
Any help is greatly appreciated because I am quite new to Logic!
Thanks a lot...

Ahh, if it's sending volume ( CC7 ) then you going to have to transform that from the environment window before it'll work for starters.
OK, go to environment/clicks and ports
add a new transformer, you should see physical on the left of the screen it should show your pedal as one of the outputs, click on that output and it should give you a cable, plug that cable into the in of the transformer, now look at this diagram and set the cabling and transformer parameters up exactly like it. You open the transformer parameters by double clicking the icon:
If you have trouble reading this diagram, double click it and it'll take you to flickr then click on all sizes to make it bigger.
This should now convert CC7 ( volume ) to CC10 so you can assign it to automation and use it as in my first comment.

  • Assign MIDI Keyboard Pedal to control Record?

I can't seem to get it to work, I used MIDI learn but it didn't assign the Pedal, a simple 0-127 cc64 VFP 1/25, to control the transport record button. Could the problem be that the box the pedal came in mentions most makes of keyboards but not my M-Audio 49e?

I see. the pedal must send CC64 to Logic to be able to control the software instruments sustain ect.
One of the reasons that the CC64 can be "blocked" is if there are any previous Controller Assignments or Keycommand assignments of that message i.e CC64. In this scenario the Logic Physical Input blocks the original message. There is a little trick to split that message using IAC but for now you must be sure where is the problem. Try to trash (and make a backup) the Logic Preferences file which will reset/delete all previous assignments. Open Logic and operate the pedal just to see if there is any CC64 shown in the Transport midi monitor or in the Input View monitor in Click & Ports environment layer. If that works then you can try to learn a keycommand again.

  • Any ideas on how to control the amount of sustain pedal data that Logic Pro 9 records? Every time I press the sustain pedal down, it records 4 sustains. Same thing when I release the pedal. Thanks!

Any ideas on how to control the amount of sustain pedal data that Logic Pro 9 records? Every time I press the sustain pedal down, it records 4 sustains. Same thing when I release the pedal. Thanks!

This gets confusing, you have two Macs with different issues and two pedals with different issues? First let's sort out what's what. So, do the issues come from the pedals or from the Mac software? To find out, simply switch the pedals and note their behaviour. No change: it's the software, change: it's the pedals (imho the most likely scenario).
Second, what kind of pedals are they? Can you name the type of pedal too? The Yamaha what and the Mgear which?
Third, with the 4 fold data problem, are the doubled events simultaneous, or a few ticks apart, or more?
Also, you have no MIDI keyboard? Are the pedals both "standalone"?
I think you have to sort this problem at its' source, which are the pedals. You could, if push really comes to shove, perhaps create some sort of ingeneous/elaborate transformer setup in the environment to filter the extra messages, although with the 4/4 sustain events that may not even be possible. With the "stepped" events you could set up a filter to just block all events with values 20-110 or so.
But much better would be to configure the pedal(s) correctly.

  • External display's brightness can no longer be controlled with external keyboard in 10.8.2

I can no longer control external display's brightness with external keyboard.
Until now my external keyboard controlled external display's brightness and MBPr's keyboard MBPr's brightness. Now the only way of changing external display's brightness is via Display preferences which is cumbersome
Is there any way of going to pre 10.8.2 settings?

I noticed that the keyboard and tablet were'nt working when plugged into a usb hub or monitor usb port.  I had to plug in the keyboard and tablet into a mbp usb port where they worked.  For some reason, after plugging them back into the usb hub they worked again.  Could just be dumb luck though.

  • Clamshell Mode Question - Yosemite - Volume Controls on External Keyboard

    Forum,
I was wondering if it was possible while in clamshell mode to, instead having to use the remote on the TV to adjust volume controls, but rather use the external board to control the TV's volume controls?
Obviously when I change the output device to the Macbook Pro the speakers kick on, a lot lower than the TV of course, but the external keyboard picks back up the volume control scroller. Again when I switch it back to the TV the TV speakers kick back on.
I am using a Macbook Pro (Late 2011) on Yosemite 10.10.1.
Using a HDMI adapter to connect to the TV, and the keyboard is the Corsair Gaming keyboard.
    Thanks in advance!

Here is what worked for me.  My scrolling on the mighty mouse and a few buttons on my wireless keyboard weren't working properly.  I reset the SMC, a link explaining the process is below.  Hope it helps you too!

  • What is the best external typing keyboard for use with logic studio?

I'm currently using Logic 7 and looking to upgrade to Logic STUDIO.
I want to get a nice typing keyboard with coloured and customised keys (short-cuts) to use in place of the MACBOOK keyboard.
I have previously bought the stickers from Editors keys, but there key command sets suck.
Hoping someone can suggest a better company offering a better product with more intuitive key command settings so that it matches well with LOGIC STUDIO - assuming its been simplifed with its work flow, I want a typing keyboard to match.
Also is it worth gettinga jog wheel to use in place of or in addition to a mouse - I think this is called a shuttle.
Anyway please send your suggestions through.
    Thanks

I believe that there are keyboard overlays for Logic available for the Apple Keyboards... although, I don't think there's anything for 8 yet, seeing as the release probably took them by surprise.
However, I do agree that using a wireless keyboard and mighty mouse are must-haves... at least in my studio. They allow me to work at my piano and control Logic from a distance (I don't like assigning MIDI commands, outside of my control surface). However, I do with that Logic would recognize the presence of a Mighty Mouse and allow assigning the remaining button presses to other features in Logic, like showing the floating toolbox while the right-click handles the contextual menus.

  • Casio SP33 Keyboard Pedals in Logic Pro 9?

    Dear all,
Can I use my Casio SP33 Keyboard Pedals for PX-150 in Logic Pro 9?
I practice piano with headphones on while my digital piano (Casio PX-150.) is plugged into my Mac book pro.
I decided to buy the designated trio of pedals, along with the piano in order to practice in the comfort of my home.
In addition so i could practice pieces for University piano performance exams, meaning i need to have a realistic approach to practicing pieces.
I use Logic Pro 9 as my source for VST's. Now i HAVE to plug in my headphones as people don't like noise!
I found the Sustain pedal (right pedal) works perfectly. While the Una corda (left pedal,) and
Sostenuto (middle pedal,) don't work at all.
I will greatly appreciate if anyone could give me an answer.
Thank you for taking time to read this.
    Best wishes,
    Andy J Stack.

Pretty sure it's a MIDI issue with the MOTO MIDI Interface, have you gone here, downloaded/installed the latest Mac drivers?  (very important)

If you have records that show that you've taken your MacBook Pro in for a year to fix the machine, I would escalate the problem to Apple Customer Relations - unfortunately I don't have a number for Spain.
It would only seem logical to me that if you've been trying to have the machine repaired during the time that the 'recall' was in effect that you should be eligible for a new logic board. But only customer relations will be able to make that call.
Good luck - take the issue as high up the food chain as you can and see what happens.

  • Controlling Logic's Record button via my feet? x-tempo POK?

I want to hit record AND play guitar at the same time. So I'm thinking of picking up this wireless "Pedal Operated Keyboard"
    http://emusician.com/news/emproduct_news042407/index.html
Has anyone used this to control Logic with one's feet? Is it easier to use then MIDI? Does it run out of battery every 5 minutes or loose it's connection randomly? Other suggestions? Thanks!

I love my POK. I use it in several audio apps and found it to be soooo much more simple to switch around then MIDI foot switches, dependable, feels great, etc. etc. I can not recommend it enough.

  • Changing patches on an external keyboard in the middle of a track

I just figured out how to switch banks and patches on my external keyboard, which is a Kawai MP8II, from within Logic Pro. I would like to know if it is possible to switch patches in the middle of a track. How do I send a system control message that would accomplish this?

I presume by 'system control' you mean a sysex (system exclusive) message which isn't really necessary at all.
If you want the patch to change, locate the position where you want it to change, press 'pause' and then hit the record button. If you make the change to the program number while its in record mode, then turn off record, even though the transport hasn't moved, the change has been recorded.
    Hope that's what you mean!

  • 10.4.3 External Keyboard Issue

    Greetings,
I seem to be having an external keyboard issue. To give some background, I am on a fresh install of OSX, completely patched up to 10.4.3 via software update. I just purchased an Apple USB Keyboard and after plugging in the keyboard I noticed something funny with the keyboard layout. The HOME key doesn't work and the END key is page down, plus delete doesn't work at all. I tried plugging in this keyboard to my PC and it works beautifully.
Now I believe this issue is being caused by the iBook using the cramped keyboard layout and not the full key layout of the external one I just installed. Every piece of help information I find on the subject either points me to menu options that don't exist (my Keyboard & Mouse -> Keyboard menu is quite clean with only 3 options to adjust typing speed) and some of the topics on these forums don't seem to cover it, any suggestions?

Apple iBook G$ 1.33GHZ   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   Apple USB Keyboard

I just installed the 10.4.3 combo update and still no effect on the keyboard. A few help topics I found on this issue point me to changing the keyboard layout in international, but that isn't working at all. Some of the keyboard & mouse options the other help documents point to are missing as well. I have only 4 options for the keyboard options pane and none of them are about configuring an external keyboard so something must be wrong here.
I checked all the keys and it appears the iBook is recognizing the keyboard, however instead of modifying the input layout of the keyboard to the full size of the keyboard, it is applying the same key shortcuts that are on the iBook 12". So this means forward delete doesn't work, home and end are the same as page up and down. When I use control and any of the arrow keys I get the iBook key layout shortcuts such as page up/down and home/end.
Somewhere, I hope there is some kind of driver I can install to force the iBook to change the keyboard layout on my apple keyboard to a regular one instead of a shortcut version on the iBook.

  • Apple external keyboard function key missing?

Hi - I have the new aluminium external keyboard (UK english, wired, full size with numeric keypad) and I notice that it doesn't have a Fn modifier key.
I have configured OS X on my MBP to use F1, F2, etc as standard function keys, requiring me to hold down Fn + key on the MBP to adjust brightness, volume, etc.
But on the external keyboard, due to the lack of an Fn key, I cannot control brightness, volume, etc. Is there any key combination I should be using to get the same effect?

The FN key is just below the F13 key on the full keyboard.

  • External Keyboard being recognized as Internal Keyboard

I have a Microsoft Wireless 6000 v2 external keyboard. I have installed the Intellitype software and in the past I have had this setup working great! The problem I'm now facing is that somewhere during my latest reinstall of Leopard (hard drive crashed), my setup procedure for the external keyboard got messed up. I plugged the keyboard in first, it asked me to identify the layout of the keyboard, which I did, and then I installed the MS software. However, none of the special buttons are being recognized by the software. What is weird is that if I go to the Keyboard & Mouse pref pane, I see 3 options now (instead of the typical two): "Apple internal...", "Keyboard", and "MS Wireless Desktop Receiver". What is also weird is that if I click on "Change Keyboard" at the bottom and have it try to identify the external KB's layout, every time I push the keys it complains that I pushed a key on the internal Apple keyboard on the Macbook. These things lead me to believe that the hardware mapping is messed up and Leopard thinks my external KB is my internal KB and thus the MS software is not receiving any of the button signals.
So my question is obviously "how do I fix this?" I think resetting the recognized keyboard list in Leopard would do it - but I don't know where that is. I've tried resetting the PRAM, which had no effect, and I've reinstalled the software multiple times, etc.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

I don't know Apple's "bump" policy - but here I am bumping this thread...

  • External keyboard questions

I want to buy an external keyboard for use when I'm not traveling. I am considering the Apple Wireless Pro keyboard and would welcome any opinions about that one or any others (wireless OR wired) you like or dislike.
Another question is about mice/trackballs. I was told that the wireless keyboards (at least the Apple) don't have USB, so if that's the case then essentially one is compelled to make two purchases, correct (keyboard and input device)?
As regards the mouse or trackball, if their control software isn't Intel-native, any reason why it wouldn't work as well on MBP as on PPCs? I've used Kensington in the past but they are, in my view, non-committal about if they plan to spport the Intel Macs re their Mouseworks software. I wonder how important it is whether they do as regards the performance of Mouseworks, I'd love to hear about any wireless trackballs anyone likes.
    Thanks for all the help.
    Richard Huggins

The Apple wireless keyboard works great for me. There are many others out there, I'd look at Logitech, Kensington, Belkin, Microsoft, roughly in that order. The most important thing is to try them out first to see which ones feel good to you.
I agree about the battery issue with mice - I use rechargeable wireless mice for that reason. Cost a bit more, but well worth it to avoid the hassle of replacing batteries.
This battery issue isn't really present with keyboards. The batteries on my wireless Apple keyboards last for a few months at least. The amount of throughput pumped out by a keyboard (and therefore the amount of battery energy needed) is much, much less than a mouse. Moving your mouse a few inches on the screen sends many, many (x,y) events to the computer. Probably a lot more information than it took for me to type this entire post.
On the mouse software issue, I've never installed the software for mice on my Mac. I used to avoid it unless absolutely necessary on my Windows machines as well. They usually cause more trouble than they are worth, if they work at all. I use my Logitech mouse with the standard mouse driver on MacOS, no problems. The only reason you might want MacOS software support is if the mouse has tons of extra buttons that you really want to map to various actions. I can map many of the buttons on my Logitech mouse with the MacOS preferences panels (e.g., map buttons to trigger Expose and the Dashboard), but I only use 3 of them (left, right, and the scrollwheel button).
Kensington makes the best trackballs in my opinion. I haven't used one in a long time, but I was always happy with them.
