External LCD Display & Screen Spanning

Hi All
I need to connect an external LCD display to my iMac G5 1st Gen computer.
Is this the right cable -
http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukstore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=6C04E099&nplm=M 8639
Also I have been reading in this forum about a screen spanning hack to the firmware. Sounds painful but what are practical steps to set this up?
Many thanks in advance
David

G'day mate
Thanks for the reply from Oz.
Just had another good look at the back of the external LCD and it has got both VGA and DVI ports on it. Which will get the best results do you think?
Also here is a dump re the graphics card in my iMac -
GeForce FX 5200:
Chipset Model: GeForce FX 5200
Type: Display
Bus: AGP
Slot: AGP
VRAM (Total): 64 MB
Vendor: nVIDIA (0x10de)
Device ID: 0x0329
Revision ID: 0x00b1
ROM Revision: 2103
Displays:
iMac:
Display Type: LCD
Resolution: 1440 x 900
Depth: 32-bit Color
Built-In: Yes
Core Image: Supported
Main Display: Yes
Mirror: Off
Online: Yes
Quartz Extreme: Supported
Display:
Status: No display connected
As you can see, the card is a GeForce FX 5200. The web site refers to iMac G5's with GeForce FX 5200 Ultra cards and not the GeForce FX 5200. (My iMac is a Rev A machine).
Do you think this will cause issues? I need to run the iMac and the LCD at a show for my company and I am a bit concerned that I might end up with a Mac with no working display. Is that likely?
Cheers
David

  • Brand new macbook pro 15" when connected to external LCD display in high resolution ,flickers often

    Hi,
I have brand new macbook pro 15" with retina display.
I have connected external LCD display (Samsung B2230) using Apple VGA adaptor & thunderbolt port. But LCD display flickers quite oftenly. I read community blogs where many macbook pro users like me are facing similiar issue.
There is no problem with LCD display as it works fine with Lenova laptops.
Can anybody please provide me the solution to this problem.?

Anywhere you can find it via the obvious Google search. It won't be from Apple, but will be a generic replacement.
Why are you throwing away any future chances of out of warranty replacements when you drop or drown it?  Apple will give you a warranteed replacement phone for $199 (in the US, roughly the same in your country)

  • Replacement of broken lcd display screen

    Hi
I dropped my iphone 4 and the lcd display screen is broken.
While i am still able to use the phone, not sure if we can have this replaced.
I purchased the phone while in Sydney, Australia but have now relocated to Chennai, India.
Would be grateful if someone can advise whether it can be replaced, whether apple store have this facility or whether we get the original screen outside
    Regards

Maybe have your screen replaced by Lenovo Support. Replacing a tablet LCD can be tricky maybe.

  • Connecting external monitor--not screen span

Lots of people ask about screen spanning and I see a clear answer there...but I am just trying to a find an inexpensive way to monitor my FCP editing projects on a cheap field monitor (or more likely an old television) for color correction purposes. I do own the apple vga adapter but thats it at this point--what should i do next? thanks

If you have an imac G5, you can color correct it for Pro color matching (NOT the 17, just the 20).
Forget the iMac vid. adapter. The VGA output on the iMac is below VESA standards (intentional? I don't know... but the Powermac/Powerbook is good!). If you're using a Trinitron like I am (or plan to) for external color work, the iMac will possibly offer you dim video like the Mac Mini.

  • External LCD display

    Dear All,
I would like to connect my powerbook with external 19" LCD display. But I only can find the resolution as follows
    640x480
    720x480
    800x600
    896x600
    1024x768
    1152x768
    1280x852
But the 19" LCD display can support 1440x900. But I can't find this resolution in above table. But I found the following info at ATI website.
    https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folder ID=299
Does anybody have experience using ATI driver before !? Please advise.

  • When we connect external LCD display colors get distorted, a NEW problem

We have used an Envision external LCD monitor with this iBook for one year with no problems, and now suddenly when we connect it to the iBook the colors are all way distorted (no red, or all blue), on both the iBook display and on the external monotor. When we disconnect the external monitor the colors on the iBook display return to normal. HELP!!!! What could be causing this?
    Thank you!

Changing the adaptor cable solved the problem.

  • Can't set resolution to match external LCD display.

    Hi all.
I'm having trouble getting the screen to display on my 42" LCD without cutting off the right/left edges.
I've found two sets ways to try and fix this in the Nvidia control panel:
    1-setting the ### x ### resolution doesn't help.
2-when setting up the external monitor all the resolution settings are grayed out.
Also, changing my format settings on the tv itself makes no difference.
I'm using an 9600M GT and got the same result before and after updating the drivers.
    Anybody have any ideas?

What I would try is the binary nvidia drivers and use the nvidia-settings tool, it seems to work better for setting screen resolutions on Nvidia cards, in my experience. It lets me set resolutions that xrandr won't let me, like 1280x720 on my 4:3 monitor if I feel like it (I had good reasons to do it lol, and no, I didn't stretch it out, I had black bars on it). I have it set to output 1360x768 to my LCD TV and I set it through nvidia-settings (though that was the default on it, so maybe a slightly different situation, but similar).
After xrandr change KDE says that it is 1360x768, but on monitor's OSD I see 1280x768…
Well, one of those is right, one is wrong, find out which is which Sometimes on my TV, if I'm in something with a lot of black space (full screen video or something), and I switch inputs, my TV will sometimes say either 1280x768 or even 1024x768, even though it's still in 1360x768). Maybe try taking a screenshot or something, and then an image viewer will tell you the real resolution of your screen.

  • Connecting MacBook Pro 13 inch to external LCD Display

I just got a new MacBook Pro 13 inch without retina display.  I noticed the retina display comes with an HDMI port, but the one I got does not.  It has the newest update to OS X Mountain Lion.  The best external connector I could find was the Thunderbolt connector, but the TV I have is HDMI.  So I went to Amazon and bought an HDMI Cable and a. HDMI-to-Thunderbolt Connector.  I can now connect my MacBook to the TV, everything show up, but it's a little touchy with sizing.  Does anyone know how to fix the sizing of the external screen, so that when i go full screen on the TV, the edges of the window are past the edges of the actual display?  Right now, I can't seem to figure it out.   Maybe I should try a different hookup?

Update:  turn out, i figured out the sizing issues, it seems to be filling the screen perfectly now.  But when i go full screen on one display, the other screen goes fullscreen on a gray screen.  I can swipe between fullscreen apps, just like in a single display situation, but when i do, both screens switch.  Is there a way top display one full screen app on the moniter and have the regular home screen display on my actual laptop?

  • New MacBook connected to external VGA display screen flash.

Just got the 2.4Ghz yesterday. For home use I've got it connected to a Samsung SyncMaster 2032NW display via the Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter. Occasionally the display will go dark for a half-a-second or so and then come back on. It happens randomly, not for hours sometimes and sometimes multiple times over a shorter period of time. There does not seem to be any repeatable action that causes it to happen, it appears to be completely random. This does not happen when I'm using the built-in screen. And I didn't have any problems using the Samsung display with my older MacBook.
Should I take the computer back? Is there something I can do to check the hardware for issues?

Glad that I am not the only one have this problem
Got the latest macbook aluminum yesterday and hook up to my Dell 24" monitor (2407WFP-HC, 1920x1200 resolution) through mini-displayport to VGA adapter. I also kept macbook lid closed and plugged in the USB keyboard/mouse; so that I can use the external monitor as the only screen. The monitor randomly goes black with a message saying "Entering power save" and then after a second comes back fine.
I am not sure but I feel it happens more when I open new windows, although there are times it happens while I was doing nothing than reading a web page. There is no problem with using the built-in display without external monitor.
    Any help would be appreciated!

  • Can I connect an Apple 15" external LCD display to a G4 Powerbook or iBook?

Will this type of display work with the G4 Powerbook or and iBook with a VGA adapter or does it require a Power Mac?
    Thanks,

I use an Apple DVI to ADC Adapter with a MacBook with an external Apple Cinema Display HD (23-Inch) with no problem.

  • External LCD monitors stopped working

I have used external LCD displays connected to my MacBook2 for a few years. Recently it stopped sending a picture to external monitors (I've tried a couple.)  The ColorSync utility can not repair a damaged profile: Adobe RGB 1998 I think. There is something wrong with the 'desc' tag. I will upload its log later, when I can connect the LCD screen again (away now.)
I am pretty sure it is just a file or a setting somewhere that needs to be changed, with Adobe probably.  Can I delete the profile? The displays work with my Nintendo Wii.
    Running 10.5.8 on white MacBook
    Any ideas??

    Thanks for the reply...
I cannot see the drive in windows disk management, it sounds like its running because i can hear it whirring.... but its not spinning up and down.
Stupidly i haven't got other copies of the files, however i didnt expect an almost new hardrive to give up the ghost so soon !
Is there any other ways i could retrieve the files ?... 5 years of holidays photo's with the missus lost, im not going to be popular !
    Thanks

[size="">Hi, The LCD Display Screen on the Creative MP3 Player is blank. The blue background light will come on but nothing on the screen. I already tried several things suggested on your website, like removing the battery and installing it again, etc. I would appreciate it if someone would help me. Thanks!
