External mic for iphone 5

I have an iPhone 5 and I video and audio record classroom speaking tests (3-person conversations) from about 6 feet away using my iPhone rear facing camera.
The video quality is great (and lower memory than the front facing camera), but the audio quality leaves much to be desire.
From all I have surfed on the internet, it appears if I have an adapter, I could plug in any normal microphone.
I have a reasonably good wired microphone, but it does not work with the iPhone. I presume it might with the correct adaptor.
Is an apdapter the solution? I see them on amazon for $ 3 - 7.
Is one of those iRig square mic's the solution? However,  I would prefer to get the mic closer to the students.
If I understand correctly, some mini-mics work with iPhone 4 and 4S but not with 5?
For less than $30 - 50, I would like to get good quality sound from 6 feet away.
Adapter?  Recommend a brand?  Mini mic? Brand?
Thanks.

Hey there! Thanks for the responses, but I'm looking for something a little less professional/expensive. I don't need fantastic sound quality, just for the lectures to be intelligible from 20 feet away.
As far as the adapter you linked goes, my old mic doesn't have any pins. It just went into a hole like a pair of headphones, and it was good enough to pick up the lectures from the back of the room. Here's what it looked like:
http://www.amazon.com/Mini-Microphone-iPhone-touch-classic/dp/B00277EMQ2/ref=pd_ sxp_f_pt
I'd love something very simple/small like that! It doesn't have to be $5, but anything over $25 is a little out of my price range for the limited use I need this for.
Thanks!

Is there a lavalier mic for iPhone 5?

I meant one in particular that's developed and supported directly by Apple. Of course, I've googled lav mics for iPhone 5 but all seem to have issues with audio quality and/or require an adapter. The Rode SmartLav seems to be the front runner, though.

  • Cheap external mic for ipad2

Can anyone recommend a cheap external mic for a ipad2 - one that doesn't cut the speakers
    Cheers

I think you just answered the USB option question I've been researching.  We found the iRig mic is sketchy.  sounds good for spoken voice when they work.  We've been using them for a mass messaging campaign and they keep breaking (if they worked out of the box to start with).  We've yet to find anything better.  We need a mic with that street interview look that we can put a mic flag on.

  • What is the best external battery for iphone 4s

what is the best external battery for iphone 4s

I bought the Mophie juice pack™ powerstation from the Apple store for $80. It has more then enough power to quickly boost the charge on my iPhone4S to an acceptable level. It requires the standard 30pin/USB Apple cord to plug into it.
But unless you need to charge your phone from 5-100%, this battery is overkill. It's a real hassle having the Apple cord connected to your phone whilst there's a battery in your pocket and you end up looking quite strange with your "corded" smartphone.
I might recommend a battery case (Mophie has these), but they don't offer the protection that I need (I use a LifeProof case).  Instead I would buy a smaller Mophie juice pack™ reserve (keychain, direct plug) to get out of a bind and then charge up your iPhone in the car, wall, airplane, etc.
My only concern with the above (direct plug batteries) is that the slightest bump and the battery becomes a lever that could break the 30 pin plug on your phone, just like that warily flimsy feeling when you put an iPhone in a dock.
Hope that helps, at least in the Mophie department!

  • Looking for small ext.Mic for iPhone 4! Purpose: Liverecording ex.Sony ECM DS30P?

I need a small electret condenser mic that gets enough power from the jackinput on my iPhone 4! for live recording of concerts etc. I heard that the Dony ECM DS30P DOES NOT WORK.?
Also suitable software for recording. Aka. Field Recorder/Blue or similar!
The built in mic on iphone is way to bright..

I recently purchased an EX-10 and my iPhone randomly. Sometimes it'll stay connected for 10+ minutes, but usually it'll disconnect after 10 - 20 seconds. I'm assuming it's the iPhone because I tried a RAZR for a full day and it never had that problem.
    Any thoughts? Thanks in advance...

  • Non-USB External Mic for iPad

    Hey Everyone,
I have an applause meter app that I will be projecting on to a screen for an event from my iPad. From my understanding, I cannot a attach a USB external mic because the port will be used for the video projection. Is there an external mic that can run from the audio-in 3.5mm port and produce a good quality recording? Thanks.

    N_Peters-
I mentioned the headset because it has a microphone, and plugs into the iPad.  If you can get the correct 3.5mm plug, you should be able to wire an adapter between XLR and 3.5mm.  I understand the iPad's  3.5mm connector has additional circuits compared to the run-of-the-mill stereo earphone connector.
You might be able to jury-rig a bluetooth headset to replace its microphone with an XLR adapter, but that is not a neat way to go!
Another approach is to use the Griffin iMic with Apple's Camera Connection Kit USB adapter.  You may be able to connect your XLR microphone through the HDMI AV adapter's extra iPad connection.  I have not tried that, but others have reported the iMic will work. <Griffin iMic>

  • External mic for Acoustic

So for now i have just been using the built in mic from my MBP. I can make it sound decent, but i really want good quality without spending a ton of money. So i was looking into buying an external mic like a USB mic. I have my eye on three of these, any thoughts?

I have both the Samson and the Micflex. And while the latter gives you really good sound for the money (a lot better than the Logitech), the Samson is really the cheapest USB mic that can compete with good condenser mics. Strongly recommend to shell out the couple of extra dollars!

  • External mic for out-door shooting

When I'm shooting video out of doors, the mic picks up wind noise. How about an external mic?

The only thing I can think of for you to experiment with would be a PC mic, you know those wand looking ones meant for VOIP meetings or calls. (Pre headset mics)
Theoretically you can get 1/8th inch plugs for commercial microphones, but I doubt the iPad has the drivers and such to handle them. It should handle headsets however and maybe either a PC mic or a discreet headset (they have ones that fit behind the ears with the mic boom coming down by your cheek) would work.

  • External Mic for iMac G4/800

Is it possible to attach an external mic/headset combo on an iMac G4/800 (M8535ll/A). If so where is the mic input? Thanks, Ken.

I'm looking at the tech specs page for that iMac model
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP93
and do not see an audio input mini-jack. If that model does not have one, you can add one using a USB device, such as the iMic from Griffin
    http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/imic/
However, you may want to contact Griffin to see if it will work with 10.3.x (as stated in your profile) and with USB 1.1 (the older slower type on that iMac model). The product description says 10.4 or later, but that may be for the included recording application, and not for the device itself. This product has been around since Mac OS X 10.3.

  • How can I specify a default directory on my external drive, for iPhone photos to be imported to on Macbook Air?

I use both a PC as well as my Macbook Air and when I sync my iPhone with my PC (I connect the phone to PC) my phone (or is it my computer)? knows to import my photos and videos to a specific directory/folder on my external hard drive (I am able to tell my PC which folder to import my photos and videos to). For example, it imports all photos and videos to the external drive and organises the photos and videos by date (it creates a separate folder for each date the photos/videos were taken; I had to tell my PC to import to the default directory (external drive) when I did this for the first time, and it now creates a new folder for each date which is useful for keeping photos organised, etc.
I'd like to be able to do the same thing, using my Macbook Air, i.e., when I connect my iPhone to the Macbook air, I want my Macbook Air to know to import my photos to my external hard drive; is this possible? I am not familiar with the photo programmes on the Macbook air, but to be honest, I don't want to use them for this; I just want my photos and videos on my iPhone to import to the same folder when I use my Macbook air to sync, as when I use my PC to sync  (I use my PC at work and have my Macbook at home). I'd like to be able to sync my phone when at home and not have to wait till I get to work, etc.
Many thanks for any help you can provide...

Yes there are many, but the question is why won't the new folder create on the drive?
    What format is it?
I think you've not grasped what iPhoto is. Have a read of these

  • External keyboard for iPhone 3G ?

Does it exist ? Is there anay available in France ? I'm very interested in this device, since it allows fast key entry (I presently use a very old Qtek with an external -foldable- stowaway keyboard ; that's fully functional, though the GPRS internet browser is terribly slow...)
    Thanks for your help,
    Fabrice

There is no Bluetooth keyboard that will work with the iPhone. That's Apple's fault -- the iPhone simply does not have the Bluetooth capabilities needed for keyboards (and Bluetooth stereo headphones as well). Apple's implementation of Bluetooth on the IPhone is shockingly out of date -- in this regard, as much as I love the iPhone -- it's a piece of antiquated hardware.
It's baffling why Apple has not addressed this problem in the 3G iPhone, and its failure to do so seriously undermines it's claims to technological superiority. It also makes the iPhone a very unfriendly device for dealing with high volume email. I get more than 150 emails a day, many requiring well written, thoughtful responses, which the built-in touch keyboard makes impossible. So as much as I'd like to, I can't use my iPhone for handling email, even though it gets pushed to me from my company server. I'm afraid to say that it sits there on the iPhone, untouched.
What is Apple thinking? Actually, regarding Bluetooth, I don't Apple is thinking at all. And don't get me started on A2DP for music -- another Bluetooth Apple failure. It's not on any iPod or iPhone. Why not? I can't think of any good reason -- it defies logic.
