External microphone for HDR-AS100V

Can anyone tell me the specs for an external stereo microphone. Plug size, impedance, Powered/Unpowered, etc. I called Sony Tech support and they referred me to this web page. You would think they would have this infornmation.

Input is a 3.5 mm 3 pole connector much as typical earbud headphones use.   There are a variety of stereo mics out there that plug directly into the camera like the Sony ECM-DS70P.  If having a mic of this design being right below the camera is a problem,  you use a simple stereo headphone extender to place it away from the camera.Another Sony stereo mic to consider is the ECM-CS3 which has a cord coming out of it already. Most stereo headphones that have a mic "for use with a phone" are 4 pole and the connection points will be trying to use the speakers in the headphones as a mic.   You can't hope for something designed to generate soud waves to pick them up.  Like going kto the ear doctor asking him to install some vocal cords in your ear canal to improve your hearing. Above mentioned mics can be found on ebay but be careful as many are dirt cheap from china and clones, lacking the audio quality of the real deals. Here are some photos from some fleabay auctions  http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/Mzc1WDUwMA==/z/aPwAAOSwEeFU7S3r/$_12.JPGhttp://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/Mzc1WDUwMA==/z/VFkAAOSwBahVHVsd/$_12.JPG I have a dozen of the older Sony action cams so using a mic with their mounting options has you really screwed.

  • Which external Microphone for outdoor????

Im currently waiting on the Canon HF G30 to be released and would like some information or opinions on which is the better external microphone for my shooting.  I will be shooting 90% outdoor and 10% indoor.  Automotive and racing events is the normal criteria and I think i have it narrowed down to 3 different ones.
    1. Rode NTG-2
    2. Rode VideoMic Pro
    3. Rode VideoMic with rycote.
Which is the better for outdoor racing type shooting ie. drag racing, rock climbing, sidexside racing and some car shows?

This belongs in Cameras and Camcorders (hopefully a moderator will approve it shortly)
I don't see any of the units in the Flip line saying that they have a mic jack, so there are no microphones that will be directly compatible with your camcorder.
It looks like the only solution available to you is to use a standalone audio recorder such as the Zoom H1 or H2 and splice the audio into the video during the editing process.  (FYI, this is how the pros do it, and is the reason they use the "clapper" in Hollywood, as it provides an easily recognizable video and audio cue for syncing everything together..)

    Hi,
Sorry to say, but you'll need to buy an external microphone - there is no internal hardware for this.

  • Can I use the iPhone as external microphone for my iMac?

My imac doesn't have a mic in, only a line in. Is it possible to use the iPhone as external mircrophone with some extra software maybe? I want to create video tutorials and the internal microphone isn't good enough for this.

  • External microphone for hp 600-1160uk

Hi, I am hoping someone can help me.
I want to add a logitech microphone and use that instead of the internal microphone.
I have purchased a standard desktop microphone with a jack but when I plug it into the "audio line in" on the left side of the computer it does see there is something plugged in but cannot recognise its a logitech microphone it just calls it a "Line In Realtek high definition audio default device" and it cannot hear an noise.
I have tried looking at the settings but there doesn't seem a way of changing it and when I try to add another device it wont find it.
    Any ideas?
    thanks

"Line In Realtek high definition audio default device"
That would be what would be expected, there's no way for the OS to identify which kind of microphone you've installed, the mini-jack does not transmit any data. You may have other issues such as needing to set gain, etc, but it will never identify a microphone as anything more.

  • Wind Shield for HDR AS100V

Any windscreens available, the wind noise is pretty bad when using on my helmet while riding my motorcycle. I have tried various foams attcahed to the inside and  outside of the water proof case but, only minimal results.I don't want to use an external mic, as I would then have to not use the case.   Could I make this work? http://www.amazon.com/WindCutter-Microphone-Windscreen-Camcorder-Panasonic/dp/B0066DOPPG

Now this one I can help with. I got the idea from a guy with a youtube channel called "the meejah channel", it's really simple and here is a clip http://youtu.be/8O0oWTpi234. It should be easy to make one 4 free, all you need is packaching foam and contact or general purpose glue. I got this foam from a flight-case style lining used with some motherboards or hard drives, I forget which. Anyone with an IT department has lots of this foam.

  • What is the best external microphone for iPad Air? Primarily for interviews...

I produce DSLR videos and record audio separately, then both are synced on my iMac. I used to use my iPod Touch (4th Gen) as a pocket mic with my Seinheiser lavalier, but it died in a tragic wash/dry cycle and I now use my new iPad Air.
Unfortunately, my Seinheiser mic is designed with a screw-on mic input, which rattles and pops my audio from time to time. I am familiar with the very inexpensive iRig line (and their accompanying mobile apps), but you get what you pay for and I am looking to invest in something higher quality.
The Air is pretty new and I dont expect there to be a lot of options, but given the limitations of the headphone port, I am hoping for the best.
    Much appreciated!

  • External microphone in headphone jack on Hp envy 15-j160no ?

Hello! I just bought my Hp envy 15-j160no. I want to use my external microphone for better quality. I have plugged my microphone in to my headphone input(because I have remebered that on this computer the input is working for both headphones and microphone, right?)
But i can't get it to work, my computer only uses the microphone that is built in on the computer instead.
I use an Audyssey that was included when I bought my receiver(Onkyo nr262)
    Appreciate help!
    Thank you!

    Hi,
    Please read:
This integrated headphone / microphone port uses a 4 section plug (identified with 3 black / colored rings).
You can plug a standard headphone in, and it should work by itself.  A spliter cable may be required to support a stand alone microphone properly.
    Please try:
    Use a  headset or
Use a "Y"  adapter that can connect a separate microphone
    Hope this helps
    Regards.

  • HT3648 I have an iPod touch 3rd generation. I would like to test it with talk to text for my deaf mother. I have downloaded the dragon program but I need an external microphone. Can you help?

    Hello,
I think my iPod touch is a 3rd generation. It is a 4.2.1 Version, 8 GB.
My 89 year old mother has totally lost her hearing. I would like to experiment with my ipod touch to see if an ipod is what she could use in her assisted living arrangement.
My ipod does not have an internal microphone as far as I can tell.
I see on the internet that I can purchase an external microphone.
I do not want a headset microphone just an external microphone where someone could speak into when the dragon app is on and it will transfer talk to text for her to read.
Can someone help me: a) do you think this will work.
    b) what do I have to do to make it work.
    Thank you.
    Yours truly,

  • Newbie - use camera for video and external microphone?

    Hi,
This is a totally newbie question, but I'm a total newbie to the video part of the mac universe.
I want to use a camcorder to "stream" live video into iMovie (which will record it to the hard drive), and use an EXTERNAL microphone, plugged into the microphone port of the computer, as the audio source (I want to use a good mic).
Will iMovie support doing this? Is it automatic that the external mic overrides the mic on the camcorder?
    Thanks,
    Dmitri
P.S. this is part of a bigger question, which is, how to get the best possible audio using a standard (cheap) camcorder. I haven't bought a camcorder yet, and am open to getting one that can take a good mic through a line-in. Any suggestions? - Thanks, D

I wrote a reply to your earlier post ..but either the system went offline, or some other glitch occurred, and the post didn't appear. So I'll try to answer your earlier message and the one just above.
Congratulations on getting the camera, by the way!
"..play video through camera" option in the preferences, which MUTES the sound in iMovie.." ..Yes, this has been standard in iMovie from the earliest versions. There may be a slight delay between the audio you hear straight from the camera and the audio coming out of your Mac. To stop the annoyance of hearing the audio separately and slightly out-of-sync (..you'll find that the video on the Mac lags very slightly, too, during import..) you can turn OFF the Mac's audio with that preference.
"..I assume this goes away if I unplug the firewire cable.." ..er..? You mean that the preference switches back when you unplug? I can't remember: try it. But don't unplug the FW cable in the middle of an import!
What I was previously trying to post was:
"..instructional/promotional videos to display online.." ..You don't say if you'll be walking around to do these demos, or if you're demonstrating computer software. If walking around you might want to use a "gun" mic to point at you, or a tie-clip mic, so that it's always clipped to your clothes ..but that will trail a cable to the camcorder unless you use a radio mic. [..And you've now bought a tie-clip mic; well done..]
If you're doing demos of computer software, then you probably wouldn't need a camcorder at all, but just a "screen-recorder" application like 'Snapz Pro' or 'iShowU'. In that case, you'd just want a simple mic to stand on your desk, to record your speech as you work your computer, and for adding extra narration afterwards.
I still don't understand why you want to capture directly to iMovie. If you're using a camcorder, surely you'd want to capture to tape, in case you need to do three or four "takes" of the same material ..and then you only need to import, and fill up your hard disc with, the best of those takes.
And if you're recording a computer screen, then you wouldn't capture with iMovie at all, but with one of those other programs, above..
