External Microphone not Working - HP G62 Windows 7

Hello everyone,
My built-in mic works very well. Also, if I plug a headphone, its mic works properly as well.
However, I've been trying to use an external microphone like this:
but it's not working on my HP G62 laptop, although it works perfectly on a PC.
I'm running on Windows 7 Ultimate.

heheheh... Sorry, I was wrong! I switched the mic switch to the off rather than on!!
The "on" word should appear when you switch it, not disappear.

The iMac's Audio Input is for Line- Level or amplified devices like (Stereo receivers, CD & DVD players, iPods, MP3 players, etc.) See > [Line- Level|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Line-level]
To connect a non-amplified microphone you will need to patch it thru an amplified stereo device such as a stereo receiver, a pre-amp, a tape player, an MXL iBoost or a Griffin iMic just to mention a few options. EXTERNAL microphone not working on T61, Colleagues with T61s having same problem

I am unable to get any external micophone to work with my T61. A colleague of mine spent hours with Lenovo support trying to get his to work but was never able to. The internal microphone works but the quality is low. I have tried several external microphones (3). I verified the external microphones work with other systems.
As for drivers, here is what I have tried so far:
SoundMAX driver uninstall
Installed Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for HD Audio
Installed SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio driver (5.10.1.5520)
None of this made any difference. When I plug in an external mic, all applications, including the SoundMAX Control Panel > Microphone > Setup Wizard, detect zero sound from the external microphone. I have muted/unmuted the external microphone, muted/unmuted the microphone in Windows, boosted/decreased the volume, used the Microsoft microphone troubleshooting wizard, etc., etc.
Please help! Using an external microphone is very important for my work (speech recognition) and for several of my colleagues. If we would have known external microphone do not work with T61s, my company would not have purchased these. Now we are all stuck until we get new laptops again (2 more years)!
P.S. One strange thing I noticed while plugging and unplugging is that if I plug in headphones to the external microphone jack, one of the headphones (R, I think) becomes an "external microphone." The quality is terrible but applications register sounds coming through the external headphones. Why then have none of the 3 different external microphones I've plugged into the mic jack worked?!?!
System:

External microphone not working on mac mini mid 2012

i bought a general electric external headset/microphone for my mac mini. i plug it in and it does not work.... please help because i broadcast on a radio station and need a working mic.

Microphone not working H420 running Windows 7 64-bit

Have tried two different microphones on H420 - intended use is for the sofware program Dragon. Went through the procedure to set up microphne in Windows 7 and get message that Windows 7 could not hear anything. Uninstalled the Realtek HD Audio Driver, downloaded latest version and installed, still the microphone does not work. Used both the front panel jack and rear jack for microphone, and checked all settings, still microphone doesn't work.

Chieftec blackbox external HDD, not working with GX740 Windows 7.

I have a Seagate Momentus® 7200.4 750GB
SATA 3Gb/s, 16MB, 7200RPM, 2,5"
using it with Chieftec CEB-25S-U3 HDD Chassi
2,5", SATA, USB 3.0, Aluminium, Svart/Silver
and it doesnt seems like the computer is actually accepting it as a harddrive or something.
It does find it, but i cant format it or use it as a harddrive, its just there.
Ive had the same problem with another external hdd, it didnt work on my gx740 with windows7, but it did work on an older computer with windows xp.
Dunno if it has anything to do with it, but the ENE CIR Receiver doesnt seem to be working in the computer. I dont rly know what it is tbh, but its under the HID Human interface Devices section.
Tryed to update the driver, but it just says it the latest drivers allready.
Ive allso had problems with the Bluetooth not working, so maybe the ENE CIR thing is the cause of that =P

ENE CIR Receiver is the infra-red receiver for Media Center remote controls (CIR = Consumer InfraRed).

'Just there' where? Is the drive actually partitioned and formatted?

Microphone not working - Satellite C660 - Windows 7

My microphone is not working. Not even while chatting or even after using Sound Recorder. Have tried many online forums but all in vain. Got my laptop rectified in a Toshiba authorised service center, but its hardly been a week, and the same problem has again starte. Please help.

Microphone not working in hp2000 windows 8 notebook. Neither internal or stereo please help

I really need help with my microphone. So neither my internal or stereo microphones are working. I test them by taking a video with my webcam and listening but you can barely hear my voice. The most you can hear is when i hit the touch pad to stop the video. It picks up my voice better when i put my face right up to the microphone but i can't do that while im on webcam because the microphone is right next to the camera. Can anyone please help me fix it so that I dont have to be right next to the microphone for it to work?!

ValentinT, welcome to the forum.
There are no drivers available for Windows 8. I suggest checking in the Control Panel/Sound/Recording to assure that your microphone is selected. It seems that the Sound is one area that gets changed when updating to Win 8.1. At least, this is what happened to me.

Microphone not working Windows 10

I have an Asus GL551 series laptop and I just upgraded to Windows 10. I have all updated drivers and I use Realtek HD Audio Manager. My microphone works except when on Skype, which before upgrading I had no issues. The microphone is working but the gain is very low, but my mic works fine on Google Hangouts, and other applications. I was able to fix it by going into control panel-communications-then set communication activity to "do nothing" when it was previously set to "reduce the volume of other sounds by 80%." It worked for a minute, but then the person on the other end couldn't hear me anymore. The settings were still the same from when I changed them. I've tried configuring my microphone, changing the boost, not having Skype automatically adjust microphone settings, uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, and Skype. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Windows 8.1 Installation on HPCompaq 7600. Microphone not working

Can't get microphone to work after installing Windows 8.1 with Env24 driver. Sound shows Mic is selected. Tried separate sound card with Realtek software. Still no operation. This is a common problem individuals are having after installing Windows 8.1. Also went into the bios setup to turn on/off sound with no results. Thanks for the help.

Internal Microphone not working for L505D-S5983 (PLEASE HELP!)

Hi,
I can't seem to get my internal microphone to work. I have enabled it under Sound->Manage Audio Devices
->Recording tab. However the green vertical bar does not detect any voice. After setting the Microphone boost to +40dB, it detected some noise (since it has some green light) but I realized it wasn't detecting my voice. Since this did not work, I re-set the Microphone boost to only +10dB. I only have one internal microphone and no external microphone.
I have seen many postings on internal microphones not working on Toshiba laptops but couldn't find a solution to mine. Can someone please help? I think it's about time that Toshiba fix this issue after the countless complaints.

No mentions of reinstalling the sound driver. That sometimes turns on the microphone.

Microphone not working on Pavilion dv7

I have an HP Pavilion dv7 with Windows 7. I have had it for over 2 years and am just now attempting to get the microphone to work and having no luck. I have done the Audio Troubleshooter which could not identify the problem. If I go into the Control Panel > Sound and the Recording tab it lists External Mic (Currently unavailable), Integrated Microphone Array (Default Device), and Stereo Mix (Ready). I assume this means there is a mic built in, but am not sure if this is correct. I have never used a microphone before and don't know what the problem might be. Any advice would be appreciated.

I updated my windows 8.1 and after the update my built in microphone didn't work any more, in skype recording or in anything that uses the microphone. When i go to sending and tried to test it, it does nothing, like it`s on mute.
The sound meter doesn't move at all, it worked until i updated the Windows and after the update was applied it did not work anymore. i uninstalled the sound card driver and installed it again, and it did not work the speakers work but the mic didnt work, i can not use the mic in skype or any app/program that uses the mic.

As per the query we understood that you are facing issues with microphone not working on your Lenovo Y50-70 laptop.
Please try connecting an external microphone and check for the issue, try to update the drivers from device manager.
a) Press“Windows Logo” + “X”keys on the keyboard.
b)Click on “Device Manager”.
c)Search for the Sound Card from the device list and right click on it and select “Update Driver Software”.
d)Follow the on-screen instructions and complete the installation of the latest driver.
e) If no driver updates are available, you may also search for the updated sound card drivers in the“Drivers” and“DriverStore”folders in the location “C:/Windows/System32” by selecting the option“Browse my computer for Driver Software”.

Internal Webcam and Microphone not working after Screen Fix

I own a HP Envy Spectre XT Ultrabook, and last week I tried to use the webcam and the microphone for the first time in a few months.
However I was shocked to find that Skype kept saying that the webcam was not detected. The microphone also could not register any sound.
Device Manager did not show any imaging devices or the webcamera, even after setting it to view non-present devices.
A check using msinfo32 did not review the webcamera either, and there were no problem devices.
Control Panel >> Sound showed that the Internal Microphone using IDT High Definition Audio Codec was enabled and working, however it could not detect any sound. All drivers are checked to be up-to-date.
I suspect this has something to do with the screen repair last month which a HP on-site technician came down to replace my screen, although I cannot be 100% sure. Although the screen is now working, the technician did not do a good job reassembling the screen - the bottom left corner of the screen cover has not be able to attach properly to the screen.
I have gone through my BIOS setup to make sure that there is no webcam disabled.
I have tried rolling-back and reinstalling the drivers for the microphone but it did not work.
I have tried uninstalling CyberLink YouCam (laptop preinstalled webcam software).
Please help, these two components are very important to me as I am going overseas soon. The laptop is still under warranty.

For troubleshooting your Webcam, I would suggest taking a look at the document Webcam Troubleshooting (Windows 7). I would suggest the two options Video does not appear in your webcam software (such as YouCam, Skype, Messenger, ect.), and Webcam is not listed in Device Manager.
For your internal microphone not working either, please take a look at the document Resolving Microphone and Line-in Problems (Windows 7). From this document, I would suggest following the top two symptoms.
Please let me know the outcome of these troubleshooting steps.
