External Microphone on HP mini 210-2010 TU notebook

Hi I need to use skype regularly. for this I want to use headphones with microphone.
There is no port to connect the external mic.
Please help me how can i use external mic alongwith the headfones on my mini notebook.
Urgent

210-2000 comes with integrated mic, which is place next to Webcam...So you will not need a mic...but if you would like to use a headphone-mic combo set, you will need a connector as shown below... which can be bought on E-bay.

I only see one 1/8 jack and it's for headphones. Does/will this double as a mic input as well?

    @jass007 ,
Hello and thank you for posting on the HP support forums.  One question when you did your install of Windows 7, while installing your drivers did you start with the Chipset Driver first.
The reason for this it is much like a traffic cop for all the other drivers on the system.  I have seen this cause conflict with common devices and even to the point where they will not even show up in device manager.
If you can make sure you back up any data.
Once this is done go to your systems support page and download all the software and drivers and save them to a USB stick.
HP Mini 210-1014EA PC - Software & Drivers
Once that is done boot into Windows Safe Mode.
    Entering Safe Mode (Windows 7)
Once you are in safe mode you will want to remove all your drivers.  You may have to uninstall one at a time and restart between uninstalls.  Remember to boot into Safe Mode each time.
When all the drivers have been removed.  Boot back into windows normally. Here you will have to install your drivers one at a time.  Remember to start with the Chipset Driver first.
Please let me know how this goes for you.
Thak you again for posting and have a great day.

  • Caught in a conundrum while trying to upgrade a Mac Mini (mid 2010) from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion

    Hi gang,
I am in a very frustrating position as I try to upgrade my Mac Mini (mid 2010) from OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard to whatever the latest version of Mountain lion is. The reason I am doing this is because the original hard drive died and the Mini sat there for 6 months before we decided to get a new hard drive and revive it.
I installed a new 500GB 7200rpm SATA drive and the problems began.
First I couldn't get Mountain Lion installed as a fresh OS installation (using both a USB drive and a DVD to no avail). It just wouldn't go. The grey Apple logo/loading screen would come up and just sit there doing nothing while the loading icon spun.
I then tried installing Snow Leopard (the OS that the Mini came with when it was new). After some messing around, that got done.
However, a peculiar thing happens when the Mini boots. Everything loads up into Snow Leopard, but although the mouse curser moves, I cannot click on anything or use the keyboard for 4-5 minutes. Then it just work (I am typing this on the Mini). This happens every time.
Now, when I updated to 10.6.8, I was able to load up the App Store and download the Mountain Lion install app. I clicked it and went through the initial copying of files and then the restart, but after the reboot, the grey loading screen would not progress. I rebooted again and held down the Option key to check out the available boot volumes, and all I saw was the installation DVD I had in there for Snow Leopard and a hard disk volume called "Mac OS X Installer."
So I booted into the Snow Leopard install DVD and opened Disk Utility to check things out. I did a verify disk and a permissions repair. Interestingly, the first repair I did gave me the message that the ACL was missing from Volumes and that is was fixed. I read something somewhere which talked about the Access Control List and mouse/keyboard issues. But who knows. When I boot back into the Mini as normal I am returned to the fully-functioning Snow Leopard installation, like nothing happened.
And now here is the kicker: it appears that the Firewire bus is hooped. In the Profiler, when I view the FireWire settings I get the message, "Warning: Unable to list FireWire devices." So I am pretty sure the one thing I cannot do is boot the Mini into target disk mode attached to my Mac Pro and installed Mountain Lion that way.
So to recap: I can't finish the Mountain Lion installation because the install won't continue after rebooting because there is something wrong with the underlying base system, which might be hardware (FW bus) related. I think.
    Some things I have tried:
    Resetting the SMC
    Resetting the PRAM
    Reparing permissions
Booting into Safe Mode (doesn't work)
Booting into Verbose Mode to observe what happens (I get the "Can't load the Bootcache.playlist" error, which I suspect is related to the screwed up FW bus)
Trying to boot using Internet Recovery (doesn't work)
Booting into Single User Mode and attempting the "fsck -y" etc. sequence to try and repair the ACL that way
    So I am stuck.
I guess the question is, should I get an external HD enclosure and install Mountain Lion onto the hard drive that way and hope it works when I put it back into the Mini?
Any other ideas? I have spent a couple days ******* around with this is am running out of ideas...
    Any advice would be appreciated!

Addendum: I read on a post here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=420169) about removing some kext files in order to trick OSX into thinking that there were no FireWire ports.
I followed the instructions and removed from /System/Library/Extensions/ the following files:
    IOFireWireSerialBusProtocolTransport.kext
    IOFireWireAVC.kext
    IOFireWireFamily.kext
    IOFireWireIP.kext
    IOFireWireSBP2.kext
I restarted and BAM...Snow Leopard booted crazy fast and the mouse and keyboard worked instantly.
The System Profiler says "No FireWire ports were found."
So this tells me that the FW port is probably the culprit and is messing up the installation.
So how do I hack the Mountain Lion installer and tell it to ignore the FW port, which is obviously quite dead? Or is there something I can do to the Base system that is similar?

  • HP Mini 210-1000sa Track Pad Problem

I've just bought a HP Mini 210-1000sa and I'm finding the Track pad truely AWFUL to use - not at all up to the usual HP high quality.
As the left and right buttons are part of the track pad "sensitive" area, when you use one finger to position the cursor then touch the left button area with another finger the track pad will either:
    a) move the cursor to a new position!
    b) ignore your click because you already have a finger touching the pad (leading to having to make several click attempts!
    c) it might work
A further problem is that although the buttons give a re-assuring "click", as they are part of the "sensitive" area of the pad, if your finger is too high on the paad (ie outside the marked area of the button), it will still "click" but nothing happens.
Is there an update (software or hardware) to fix this problem?  I'm finding it unusable as it is, I have to use an external usb or bluetooth mouse.  This partly defeats the object of having an ultra portable device!
    Thanks for any help ...

  • EXTERNAL microphone not working on T61, Colleagues with T61s having same problem

I am unable to get any external micophone to work with my T61.  A colleague of mine spent hours with Lenovo support trying to get his to work but was never able to.  The internal microphone works but the quality is low.  I have tried several external microphones (3).  I verified the external microphones work with other systems.
As for drivers, here is what I have tried so far:
    SoundMAX driver uninstall
Installed Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for HD Audio
Installed SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio driver (5.10.1.5520)
None of this made any difference.  When I plug in an external mic, all applications, including the SoundMAX Control Panel > Microphone >  Setup Wizard, detect zero sound from the external microphone.  I have muted/unmuted the external microphone, muted/unmuted the microphone in Windows, boosted/decreased the volume, used the Microsoft microphone troubleshooting wizard, etc., etc.
Please help!  Using an external microphone is very important for my work (speech recognition) and for several of my colleagues.  If we would have known external microphone do not work with T61s, my company would not have purchased these.  Now we are all stuck until we get new laptops again (2 more years)!
P.S. One strange thing I noticed while plugging and unplugging is that if I plug in headphones to the external microphone jack, one of the headphones (R, I think) becomes an "external microphone."  The quality is terrible but applications register sounds coming through the external headphones.  Why then have none of the 3 different external microphones I've plugged into the mic jack worked?!?!
    System:
SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio (Driver 5.10.1.5520, Location 65535, C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\ADIHdAud.sys is 5.10.01.5520)
Windows XP Pro Version 2002 SP2
    Intel Core2 Duo CPU
    T7300 @ 2.00GHz
    2.99 GB of RAM

I am having this same problem and am also using voice recognition software.  Have you found a resolution yet to this problem?  I have not.  Please share if you have.
    Thanks!

  • External microphone question

Is there a difference in audio input quality between the microphone input jack and a USB port? I'm trying to add narration to a slideshow in Final Cut Express and the iMac appears to be finicky about which external microphones it will accept. My very old pc mic doesn't work through the audio input jack (it's not "powered," which I understand is needed). A USB headset/boom mic does work, but there is a slight hum when the volume is raised to a sufficiently audible level (this item is fairly new, but came with a foreign language course for use on a pc). Presuming I get a new mic, is one or the other input better for recording voice, USB or the input jack? Thanks.
    Bob

Most USB mics are likely to work. Mics that plug into the mic jack may or may not work depending upon their impedance and output level which must be high enough to be detected on the port. It's a good idea to look for a regular mic that is stated to be compatible with a Mac. This is less likely to ever be a problem with a USB mic. So your decision probably has to center around how much you use the mic and whether you can give up a USB port for one.
You can use older mics or mics with low output levels by buying a Griffin iMic that handles a regular mic with a 3.5 mm mini-plug and plugs into a USB port. It also has a headphone jack for sound out from the iMic. They're relatively inexpensive. You can also find what are called "USB sound cards." These vary in price and size (Griffin's iMic is really a USB sound card.) One such product (it's on the pricey side) is found here. Other similar products abound on eBay.

  • Compatible external displays for Mac Mini

I just purchased the Mac Mini (Mid 2010 Build) and would like to use an external display aside from the displays sold at the Apple Store.
What are the compatible displays (monitors) for the Mac Mini (Mid 2010 Build)?
With these compatible displays, what connection wires are necessary?

Pretty much any display with HDMI input should be supported. The mini should have come with an HDMI to DVI adapter, so you can also use it with most DVI equipped displays. You can buy an adapter from mini Displayport to VGA, which would allow you to support most VGA displays, but is more likely to have compatibility issues, especially if you use older, 4:3 aspect ratio displays.

  • Using an external microphone with a Mac Pro Tower

I have a Mac Pro tower with OS 10.4.11 and I have a question regarding recording sound through an external microphone.
I own a microphone with a 1/4" jack and when I plug it into the designated input on the back of my tower, I'm not getting any sound. I've troubleshooted with a couple different microphones and none seem to work. Am I doing something wrong? Is there some sort of configuration that I have to do when using a mic?
    Please help!

I'm sorry, but that's not really my area of expertise. If you are planning to use this for simple voice-recording you could try the Griffin iMic device which helps provide both pre-amplification and impedance matching between a mini-plug mic and a USB port for sound input. I've used it recording music from a boom-box to a MacBook.
The tech specs state that the audio line-level in port is:
Input impedance greater than 20,000 ohms
Input level: Max 2 V rms (+8.2 dbµ)
I would look for a mic that meets those specifications. MacSpeech.com has several microphone/headset recommendations for use with their Dictate and iListen voice recognition software. I would think that their suggestions would be useful.

  • Mac mini (Mid 2010) HDMI & DTS-HD

    Hello to everyone,
I'm using Mac mini (Early 2009) as HTPC.
With Mac OS X 10.6.4 and Plex, I watch MKV with DTS.
I have connected my mac with my Harman/Kardon.
My problem is when I want to play Blu-Ray (iso files).
I boot Win 7 (Boot Camp), and I use as a player the ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre 3 Platinum.
So I get the Audio from SPDIF and I have a DTS signal.
Because of the limitation of the SPDIF it is not possible to get the DTS-HD, the SPDIF dose not support bitstream.
Does the new Mac mini (Mid 2010) pass the DTS-HD throu the HDMI?
    thanks.

Completed my testing.. My mission was to watch a non ripped blu ray on my mac using a USB external blu ray player, Sony/NEC JV edition.

*Short Version - There appears no way to play a blu ray on a mac unless you rip it.* Period ... but I tried really.
    *Detailed Version*
Did some testing today, on a new 4gb mac mini w/ snow leopard and a USB External mac friendly 'labeled' external sony/nec blu ray player. I use the mac mini as a media extender connected to my 52" plasma and back to my 'PC Config'
The 'PC config' is cat5 connected via GIGe from the mac mini back to a Apple Extreme that acts as a network hub connecting to my NAS, (2x2tb raid) & PC (Windows 7 on Quad core 8gb ram 20TB HD (5x 2TB internal and 5 x 2TB external) NAS and ADSL2+ Internet (got all that).
Here are my results; no surprises.
Litmus Test : On a windows 7 PC it lets you play a blu ray disc on it (go figure) or dvd/cd of course.
Test 2 On the Mac it plays a dvd only
Test 3 On the Mac running window 7 in parallels it plays a dvd only
Test 4 On the Mac running windows 7 in boot camp it plays a dvd only
Test 5 On the Mac networked to a PC with the blu ray drive shared it plays a dvd only
Test 6 On the Mac networked to a PC with the blu ray drive shared it plays a dvd only in Parallels 5 and Windows 7
Test 7 On the Mac networked to a PC with the blu ray drive shared it plays a dvd only in boot camp running Windows 7
Software used for windows 7 (pc and in MAC vm) VLC, and Cyberlink Power DVD 10. The mac will run an MKV file (ripped blu ray no problem), too mcuh trouble, I just want to play a blu ray.
Hope to avoid buying another blu ray player.

  • I don't see a jack for an external microphone - hp notebook Pavilion m6

I have  a headset I'd like to plug in, it has a better microphone but I don't see a jack for microphones, just for headsets. Is there a jack or how can I use my external microfphone

Ah - I have just run into this problem with a HP Pavilion m6. I have been trying to digitally record some precious archival material from tape cassettes over forty years old, and I thought to use a cassette deck as an external microphone, and connect the RCA jacks on the deck to a mini 3½mm phono jack  plugged  into the HP.
    It won't work!! Bother!
In the first place, the mini jack has to have four poles, not the usual three.
One way around this to use an external microphone is to acquire an external sound card with the usual mini ports to plug into one of the USB ports in the HP. Such an external sound card is easily got, and they are inexpensive. However, whether or not one can get a good quality external sound card is another matter.
One other solution seems to partially work: I acquired from a television shop an interconnector with a 4-pole 3½  mini jack at one end and RCA plugs at the other, including a video plug. Using the one video plug in one of the cassette deck stereo plugs works, but converts the stereo of the cassette to mono when recorded by the HP m6.

  • External Microphone Recommendations For Canon Vixia HF M50

    Hello:
I have reviewed the microphone options for the mini-advanced shoe, and they don't work for my application.  I need an external condenser microphone that can be on a wire 50 feet away from the camera.  I tried a dynamic microphone but voices were much too soft.
Does anyone have a recommendation on what will work on a 50 foot wire, but provide good sound from an external microphone?

  • Camcorder external microphone recommendations?

I'm shooting video with a little Canon Elura 100 mini-DV camcorder, which has a jack for an external microphone. I'd like to interview people and capture their voices up close better than the built-in mike is doing from a few to several feet away.
Maybe a wireless lapel mike or something of that sort would be the best way to go, although if those are too expensive I wouldn't mind hanging a mike on a stick connected to the camera by a long wire. I know next to nothing about microphones so don't know what to look for.
Anyone have any recommendations on where to get a good external microphone that would serve this purpose?
    Thanks,
    Tom

I guess you were right, Ian; a little wired lavalier mic turned out to work just fine. I bought this little Audio Technica one <http://tinyurl.com/ywo6av> for just $20 and the recorded sound is amazingly good--although it's almost too sensitive if you get it too near your mouth, so it works best held out a ways or clipped to your shirt front. The wire eliminates all the problems I was reading about with wireless mics. There is still the battery to worry about so I'll get some spares to keep handy.
I still wish I could figure out how to power the fancy old stereo shotgun mic off my ancient Hi-8 Canon L-1 to use on the little Elura videocam for outdoor recording. It plugs right into the Elura's mic jack, but it has a second wire that plugs into the L-1 for power. The Elura has no second jack, so the mic would need some sort of external battery, maybe like those on the Rode mics you other fellows mentioned. Perhaps one of the local electronic stores can figure out what kind of power it needs. This old L-1 mic, being stereo and with its adjustable angle of sensitivity, is actually fancier than this Rode stereo mic that looks similar to it and costs $250 on Amazon <http://tinyurl.com/23qw63>. There is also the cheaper Rode mono mic <http://tinyurl.com/yqalew>, which takes a 9V battery inside. Maybe the old L-1 mic would work with a 9v like that.
Anyway, at least I'm all set now with this lavalier mic for indoor voice recording. You were right about the improved quality of an external microphone. My daughter even played a banjo into this lavalier mic and the recorded music and her voice sound very realistic, even heard through the cheap external Altec speakers connected to this Mac. This little Audio Technica lavalier mic has top user ratings on Amazon, but only four people reviewed it (maybe it's a new product) so I still had reservations after ordering it. But it turned out very well.
The mono sound is a minor drawback, but at least I can copy and paste the single audio track onto a second audio track in Final Cut to get the sound to come out of two speakers.
Thanks again for all the help and suggestions.
