External Midi keyboard connection to mac fails

I have a Roland RD-700gx stage piano which I use as a midi keyboard in Logic Pro 9. But now Logic doesn't recognise it anymore. The transport bar says there is 'no in'. Does anyone have an idea what has gone wrong here? So far I've only used the Roland as an external keyboard with usb (so not used sounds from the roland yet). Worked fine so far. I just upgraded to Lion, could that have something to do with it? Can anyone tell me how to make it work again? I forgot how I did it last time. I'm not very experienced with midi. Thanks for any help!

so you have it connected via USB? And is that direct, or a hub? If it's a hub, rule out (common) hub failure by bypassing it and going direct to the computer. After each step, check it with "Audio MIDI Setup" (utilities folder). Make sure the Roland is represented in Audio MIDI Setup with an icon of it's own. If not you would need to "add device" at the top of the A.M.S. window. Next would be to try a different cable.
If you're using an interface, does it have MIDI (5-pin) ports? I'm pretty sure your stage piano has them, you could get an old-school MIDI cable and try it that way. (midi out from piano to midi in on interface)
have you considered an animal sacrifice?

  • Recording from a midi keyboard to a Mac Pro

I am planning to get a Mac Pro and I have a midi music keyboard with a typical midi plug that fits the gameport connection on a soundcard.
How would I connect this to a Mac Pro to record music with Garage Band?
Currently, the midi keyboard gets its power from the PC computer that I connect it to, in case that affects the situation for any advice given.
Thanks a lot for any advice.

    Thanks for the welcome BlayZay!
I actually already have a gameport to usb adapter that I use for my joystick which came with a gameport connector but it's easier for me to connect it to the front USB on the PC when I feel like playing games and I leave my midi keyboard permanently connected to the gameport interface of my soundcard.
Do you know if the USB connection on a Mac Pro would send power to the midi keyboard to allow it to operate when connected to the Mac?
    Thanks.

  • How to share external hard drive connected to mac with pc

I have and external hard drive connected to my mac-mini OSX 10.4.11
My iTunes music folder is in it. I want to share my music with my kids in my house so they can hear it in their windows xp computer with windows media player 11
I have the computers connected to a router and I can see the mac files from the pc but I cannot see the external hard drive that is mounted on the desktop of the mac.
The external drive is formatted as "Mac OS Extended (journaled)
Or.... If there is a way that I can duplicate my 80 gigs of music onto the pc that would be great.
I also tried to see the pc from the mac so that I can drag and drop some songs from the iTunes music folder right into the desktop of the pc and I can't get to the pc from the mac. I get an error that says the Alias is incorrect and the PC cannot be accessed.
Please Help my kids are driving me crazy for some music on their computer!
    thanks in advance.

Apple has a 'bunch' of articles on sharing iTunes.
Or look at the networking. And then whether you want to put MacDrive on the PC, or use NTFS format and NTFS driver (commercial or free MacFUSE).
And probably want to ask or look in iTunes for Mac and Windows discussions, too.
Most of the things I have (bookmarked) deal with Leopard, not Tiger, so not sure but pretty sure networking is now slightly different.

  • External midi interface connection. Please HELP!!!!

    Hi,
I just got the iMac 20 inch widescreen, primaritly for use in my recording studio.
I have tried on three different occasions, to install an external midi interface (MOTU Micro Lite), but it is not recognised in the system's midi set up window, and it's driving me nuts! Can someone please tell me what to do. Maybe I'm not getting some things properly set up before the installation.
The MOTU installation cd says it is compatible with Mac OS X operating system.

You've posted in the OS X Server area.
    Any special reason why ?
Did you install the software for the device ? :P

    Hello
i have a new midi keyboard ( Yamaha mx61 ) and an old mac 5g. Iv used a midi drum kit fine ( Yamaha DTX ) just plug in and play with garage ban. However, the keyboard want be found. The USB ( small ) from the keyboard to the USB to the computer , same as the drums and it's pick up as a standard typing keyboard.
Iv tried using the discs given but they won't work as this mac is running on10.4.11. Is there anyway to get it to work in garage band or is this to do with my mac being old.

  • Time Capsule also backup an external hard drive connected to Mac?

My internal hard drive on my iMac Intel 2.4 20" is filling up so I'm looking at getting an external Firewire 800 hard drive to connect directly to the iMac. Can my Time Capsule back up my internal hard drive as well as an external hard drive connected directly to the iMac? I've searched for the answer but can't find a clear yes or no or how to set this up.
    Thanks...

Yes, it's pretty much automatic. You can also control what gets backed up, as follows:
o In Time Machine preferences, Choose Backup Disk, then click Options. A list of locations that are backed up appears.
o To add a new "do not back up" location to the listing, click the "+" button below the list, navigate to the location you want to exclude and click Exclude.
o Click Done to return to Time Machine preferences.

  • How do I use my external MIDI keyboard with Logic 7 and create MIDI data?

I have a Yamaha UX16 cord that goes from the MIDI IN & OUT of my keyboard to a USB jack to plug in my Mac. But I don't know how to set it up so I can record myself playing the keyboard via MIDI and then later switch the sound or instrument in the track.

    Hi,
You need to set up your keyboard inside a utility ap. called Audio Midi Setup.
    You find it here:
    Applications / Utilities / Audio Midi Setup.app
Inside this application you should see your Yamaha UX16 as an interface with ports along the bottom of it. Create a new device and name it whatever your keyboard is named, and cable it to and from the Yamaha UX16.
If you do not see the Yamaha UX16, you need to install it's drivers. Consult your manual / the Yamaha website for details on this.
Once this is accomplished, you will then see the keyboard inside Logic, as a Midi input.
Dont' forget to read this document, to enlighten you as to how Logic works, as it is very different that Garageband:

  • External hard drive connected to mac Mini is having problems and won't repair

    Hi,
Thanks in advance for any support.
My Mac mini (OS 10.7.5) isn't reading the external drive correctly and sometimes doesn't find it at all. When it does find the drive, some folders which I know to be large show up as empty (not always the same folder, I think).  I'm quite sure the drive is having problems and want to repair it, just so it can be stable enough to duplicate (i.e. copy the external).
But it won't repair in Disk Utility because it can't unmount. I tried turning off Spotlight via Terminal, but it still won't unmount. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Hi Linc,
    Thanks for the reply.
Do you mean installing it in another enclosure? How easy or difficult is it to move the drive -- and should this be done by a professional?
    Thanks

  • HP Potosmart C4680 connected to Mac-- failed alignment

I replaced a cartrige.  But the alignment failed because printer suddenly wouldn't print an alignment page or anything else.  Now the printer will print anything I like, but it is badly off line.   I found a previously used alignment page and tried to scan it, but the normal scan function only scans to a PC or a memory card and won't scan the replacement alignment page.  I tried removing and re-installing the ink cartriges to get the "print alignment page" and "scan alignment page" functions to kick in, they won't.  I could print something on a couple of reams of paper till I use up all the ink in the cartriges and get back the "scan alignment page" that way, or I could buy a new printer.  Does anybody know a better way  of getting the printer back in alignment?

    Hi kolonos,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue getting the printer to align the ink cartridges.
I suggest that we remove the power cable from any power bar/strip that you may be using and plug it directly to a wall outlet.  This will cause the printer to do a semi power reset and start an alignment process.
Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.

  • Assigning External MIDI keyboard voice to a Software Instrument

Alright, so, here is my setup. I am using Logic Pro 9, a Yamaha MO8 Synthesizer, an M-Audio USB to MIDI converter cable interface, and a 1/4" jack to USB converter cable for audio. On my synth, I have 5 seperate tracks sequenced together. On LP9, I create 5 Software Instrument tracks, assign each one to a separate MIDI channel and then use a MIDI clock to record them all at once. They record fine but it just seems to be MIDI data. Since the software instrument tracks have no voice applied to them, there is no sound. So, my question is, how can I assign a voice to these tracks from my synth or how can I record audio directly from these tracks?
    Thank you.

    Hi-
As a musician I’d like to be able to play the sounds on my iPad from an external MIDI keyboard - is this possible? I have a MOTU Midi interface already.

Is there any problem with Imacs with regard to recognising midi keyboards connected via USB  My imac will not recognise the midi keyboard I have connected up with it

    Hi Leonard,
Maybe it won't fix my problem, but I just don't want to lose anything I have on my machine. So if I just get out of this process I'll be happy.
Too late, only way out is to restart.
Also, I purchased Tiger early on, but can only find my 10.3 Tiger disc, not a 10.4. There should have been a straight 10.4 disc, correct?
Correct, & do not use the 10.3's Disk Utility on a 10.4 volume.
Since I purchased it, way back when, shouldn't I be able to pay for a replacement disc and shipping?
No, the only "Replacement Discs" they might have are the ones your Mac came with, 10.3 apparently.
