External Monitor connects, disconnects, re-connects, disconnects, endlessly

Hi,
When I physically connect my Lenovo G575 laptop, running win7, to my LG LCD monitor via VGA cable, my laptop will not remain internally connected to the monitor. The laptop disconnects, then re-connects, then disconnects to the monitor repeatedly. So, there is signal feed being sent from the PC and recieved by the monitor, then the disconnect sound is made and the signal stops... then the connect sound is made and the signal is restored to the monitor, over and over again. During connections, the monitor displays as desired. This monitor and VGA cable work flawlessly on my other laptops, but not my Lenovo. I've tried changing the resolution settings on the computer, which does not solve the problem. How do I get the Lenovo to remain connected and feeding signal to the TV? Any ideas? What could the problem be?
I've read the Lenovo owners manual for my model. There was nothing relatively helpful in it.
Adapter Type: AMD Radeon HD 6310M [Computer says "This device is working properly" & is also up to date]
Driver Version: 8.792.2.4000

Robert,
My wife's MacBook exhibits the EXACT same problem. The speed drops from around 3,100kbps to as low as a lousy 80kbps as soon as the external monitor is connected. I get 3,200kbps on my desktop, which is NOT on wireless.
Her monitor (ViewSonic LCD flat panel, I believe) is connected directly to the MacBook, as it came with the appropriate connector.
It's very discouraging that you don't have an answer yet after two months.
The next step has to be to bring the MacBooks back to Apple for replacement of the internal airport card.
Thanks for having posted this.

  • Using External monitor with DVI kills wireless connectivity

    I recently purchased a BenQ G2400WD 24" 1920x1200 monitor, for use with my May 2007 GMA 950 2.0Ghz. Macbook.
Upon receiving the monitor, I immediately plugged it in to my Macbook, using the Mini-DV to VGA adaptor I already had, for use with projectors. The monitor was good, but a bit blurry and not too sharp, due to the analog signal. So I ordered a Mini-DVI to DVI adaptor. When it arrived, the improved picture quality was immediately apparent.
However, as time went on, I noticed my wireless connectivity was getting terrible. Extremely slow Safari page load times, and upon going to Terminal and pinging my router, I would often get response times of 21000 milliseconds, or worse! I did a lot of research, on router firmware, on wireless connectivity, etc., but to no prevail. Then, on a whim, while continually pinging my router, I removed the DVI adaptor from my monitor. The ping instantly dropped from tens of full seconds to just a stable 0.4 milliseconds! Using my VGA connection resulted in no worse wireless connectivity than without it, but upon plugging in DVI and stressing the connection a bit (i.e. downloading a large file), the connection went bonkers. The pings also immediately jump from 0.4 milliseconds to a range of 1-4 milliseconds, regardless of any "stressing".
I have done numerous research, including searching both here and on other discussion forums. It appears this problem with DVI connection is fairly common, but with no resolution so far. Any help would be great!
    A few important notes:
-Both ends of both my VGA cable and my DVI cable are shielded.
-I have tried numerous channel changes of my router, to no prevail.
-While using DVI, EVERYTHING works well except the wireless. So the monitor isn't too demanding for my computer.
And I hope my thorough post didn't scare you away!

I have this same issue with the dvi and wireless disconnect. I am using a samsung 214T. I am glad to know i am not the only one seeing this, because it is kind of one of those things that is hard to believe. Anyway, I am also curious what kind of routers people have who are experiencing this issue. I am using a wrt54GL with tomato firmware.
Also, In addition to the disconnect, my picture quality on my monitor gradually degrades over time...starting with what looks like snow flecks. After waking from screen saver, sometimes it is full static. Turning off and turning back on the monitor clears the static away.
I can use another samsung 19in monitor with dvi without any problems.

  • Can't connect to external monitor (possibly after Yosemite update)

I have recently updated my macbook pro to Yosemite. My external monitor (samsung 1080p tv) would connect fine using a hdmi before, but now its unresponsive. I have been into adobe premiere pro CC and been onto preferences > playback > then ticked my monitor but still no luck. I can't remember using the monitor since updating to Yosemite until now so im guessing this is what is the problem as was fine on mavericks. Any ideas? Thanks

Basically I have the same issue. I also suspected a software update (though I am using Mavericks). However, it does play with an older version of Adobe Premiere (CS 6). So I suspect that one of the manny updates to CC broke the connection. It's an important part of my workflow, so let me know if you find out anything. I don't have a solution right now.
Here was my complete post if it helps:

  • Connecting Dynadock to a second external monitor with a splitter

    Hey guys -
I have a Samsung Series 9 which I have connected to the Dynadock3.0. I have two additional external monitors which I wanted to connect via the dynadock. I used a vga splitter to connect to the two monitors (dell u2312hm) via vga cables and then used the vga-to-dvi converter to connect to the Dynadock. Unfortunately the computer only recognizes both the external monitors as one screen and while I am able to extend between my laptop screen and the external monitors, both the external monitors duplicate the same screen.
    Help!

  • External monitor no longer works after installing iLife '09

Before, the external monitor (Apple Cinema HD display) connected via DVI to Mini-DVI adapter was working fine. However, after installing iLife '09 and restarting, the iMac will no longer detect the external display attached to it. I even tried installing a different (but same model) display but it still will not detect.

I'm not sure how installing an application would cause that to happen. Have you shut down (powered off) the iMac completely, and then restarted, since this problem occurred?
Some display settings are stored in PRAM, so if you have not already, try resetting PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If that does not help, you can try disconnecting the iMac from power and reconnecting it, using the reset SMC (power management) procedure.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
When you reconnect it, initially connect the iMac to a wall outlet, by itself. Leave all peripherals disconnected, except for your USB keyboard/mouse. Make sure it is working properly, then connect only the external display.
If it still does not work, as a test, start up with your Mac OS X installation disc. You are not installing anything, but note if the second display is displaying the background image or not when you are booted from a different system.

  • IMovie playback on external monitor via FireWire?

this seems like a pretty obvious question, but is it possible to play back an iMovie timeline on an external monitor/TV? i'm connecting my Titanium laptop to a Sony DV camera via FireWire, then directly from the camera to my TV via mini-jack/RCA cable. this works fine in Final Cut Pro, but i can't seem to get my iMovie to show up on the TV. how do you get iMovie to playback output via FireWire?
    thanks.

In iMovie>Preferences>Playback do you have "Play DV project video through to DV camera" checked?
For your information: Checking that checkbox sends the audio to the DV camera INSTEAD of to the Mac's speakers, so if you disconnect the camera, you will have no audio.

  • How do I get a video signal to an external monitor via the mini-display port on my Mac Book Air?

I can't get a video signal out through my mini-display port on my Mac Book Air (version 1).  Thus I can't feed BBC iPlayer to an external monitor.  There is some connectivity - the MAC wallpaper is broadcast, the mouse pointer is visible and sound is transferred.  Is it likely to be a cable connection problem (though the cable works with a Windows operating laptop)?

First, what you said is contradictory. You say "can't get a video signal", then say"the Mac wallpaper is broadcast, the mouse pointer is visible". "No video signal" means an absolutely black, blank screen. It sounds like you have plenty of signal.
I am supposing what you are seeing is actually a blank desktop, which is to be expected if your settings are such that you are extending the desktop, instead of mirroring it.
Within the preference panes is a setting that allows you to change this. Open System Preferences, click Displays, and then click Arrangement. You will see that you are extending the desktop. Change that setting.

  • Macbook Pro Retina to external monitor - which cable?

Hi, I have a Macbook Pro Retina and I want to connect it to my 22" Viewsonic external monitor - which has a VGA connection going into it. Looking at all the cables I'm confused at which one I should get? Any info would help!

Thanks for your help What about a HDMI to VGA cable? Would this work?
Where would you find one of those? Never heard of that. That is not to say they don't exist. Why would you want to try that? That would mean you are taking a digital signal, converting it to analog, then converting it back to digital.
Stick with the common methods as I described. Tell us if your monitor has HDMI or DVI inputs and I can be more specific as to what cable to use.

  • External monitor is not listed by xrandr

    Hi,
I have an external monitor (VGA) connected to my laptop. All worked fine until the last nvidia-package update. X would no longer start up and therefore I decided to use the free nv driver instead (xf86-video-nv package). I updated my xorg.conf and everything was fine except that my external monitor isn't recognized.
I own 2 external Monitors with VGA. When connected, both show the same picture as the internal monitor of my laptop but the picture is "shaking" the whole time. Doesn't look very healthy at all...
(And I don't want a duplication but an extension of screen space)
When I invoke xrandr it only lists my internal display. So I suppose the problem lies below all the Xorg.conf stuff. But I have no idea where to look for the cause of the problem.
Is the kernel responsible of recognizing my monitors? Or is it a differenz component? How can I find out if the kernel(if responsible) has recognized my monitor?
My system is up to date. No packages are held back. The relevant hardware is:
    Nvidia GeForce 7400
Fujitsu Siemens (no model specification available)
    Samsung Syncmaster 2243 BW
    the following daemons are running:
crond  dbus  hal  netfs  network  smartd  syslog-ng

    Thanks for your replies.
djszapi wrote:1. You can create an xorg.conf with X -configure or with hwd, or try it without xorg.conf.
Does that mean that xrandr looks into the xorg.conf to see if there are more monitors?
    I tried both methods.
X -configure created an xorg.xonf with the instruction to use the nvdia driver. The result was (as expected) that the screen of my monitor stays black and only sysreq could help me to reboot. I edited the file to let the xserver use the nv driver but this changed almost nothing except that I still could use the ctrl+alt+F1... keys to get back to the virtual console (remember: X was all black. No windowmanager ect. )
Using no xorg.conf has the same results as my current xorg.conf which I will paste later in this post. edit: The xorg.conf generated by X -configure has been attached too
    2. Which version of kernel/driver do you use ?
As I wrote - everything is up to date.
    That means:
    Name                 : kernel26
    Version              : 2.6.30.4-1
    Name                 : nvidia

    Name                 : hal
    Version              : 0.5.12git20090421.4fc367-2
    3. Is it a 32/64 bit system ?
    32 bits
    4. Maybe you can show some related log files, like xorg.log, error.log, syslog.

I did. But since the last update I can't use the Xserver any more with the nvidia driver. And nvidia's tools only work when the driver is already working in the background.
However I'm still wondering which component is responsible for recognizing the monitor. This will probalbly help me to investigate the problem.

  • GS70 Stealth Pro Crashes when using external monitor..

    Hi Guys,
I just bought a GS70 ghost pro a few weeks ago and have been loving it, no problems, running Battlefield 3 and watchdogs..
However I just bought an external monitor, Asus VG248QE, when i connected it via display port and tried to play Battlefield 3 on the external monitor the laptop crashed - both screens blank- fan on- power button went orange- had to hold down the power button to reset.
Tried it again, opened Bf3 in window mode, put it on external monitor, went to full screen - it played ok for a few minutes then the laptop crashed again..
I had played bf3 no problems on the laptop screen previously.
Anyone got any ideas what might be going on? I'm new to gaming on pc so I'm a bit lost, any suggestions would be welcome.
    Thanks,
    Dan

Which nvidia driver are you using? (latest one from nvidia GeFormce Experience or MSI website)
Try to use the one from MSI website and update the latest VBIOS(80.04.F7.00.0C).

  • Second (!) external monitor lagging after OS X update

    Hi,
I have a second external monitor connecte to my MBA mid-2012. This monitor runs via a USB - DVI link. The first external monitor runs via the thunderbolt connection. Under the previous OS X things were very fine - now, there is a delay on the second external (USB - DVI) monitor. The mouse moves quite slowly. Any solution to this? It's quite annoying.
I use a Terratec Connect A1 card for the link.
    thx

I have noticed something similar on my Win7x64 system, but am not able to reliably reproduce it. It seems, for me at least, to be a combination of +Clarity and Lens Profile Correction which will always trigger an observable screen redraw when moving from segment to segment in 1:1 view mode. The variable is the delay.....most often it's a fleeting effect, but occasionally there's a more obvious delay in redrawing the image display. I suspect the more obvious delay is, in addition to the +Clarity and Lens Correction, some internal resource utilisation over a longer Lightroom session....certainly every time I've encountered it a Lightroom restart has cleared it up.
Don't know it that helps, or gives you any pointers to reducing the impact. Because of another "issue" with Lens Corrections (when it's applied, Spot Removal work gets slower), I tend to apply it last of all when editing pictures....so that also helps avoid this 1:1 screen redraw problem.

  • MBP 374, 10.9, cannot use external monitor

After updating my OS to 10.9, I noticed that my old laptop cannot use any external monitor: cannot recognize any monitor and all external monitor connected to my laptop will keep black... I guess the raison may be the new updated function of OS 10.9 have not been fully tested on old macines...

    No there isn't...
I'm sure that I checked the checkbox but there is not any icon shows up when the external monitor or projector has been connected...

  • My MBP recently started logging itself out.  I narrowed the problem to the external monitor which is connected with a Thunderbolt adapter. When I disconnected it, the problem went away.

My early 2011 MBP laptop (OS Yosemite 10.2.2) recently started logging itself out.  I narrowed the problem to the external monitor which is connected with a Thunderbolt adapter. I installed Thunderbolt firmware update 1.2, that did not correct the problem. When I disconnect the external monitor, the problem went away. Is there something I can do to be able to use the external monitor again?

    Try Function F1

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be working for me. =/
    I've inserted
    echo "Action was $SRANDRD_ACTION" >> $HOME/srandrd.out
into the script to attempt some debugging but I get no output. My guess is that the script isn't being run at all.

Downloaded latest OSX patch last week (Thunderbolt patch).  Now, when connecting my HP external monitor to my Macbook Pro (2011), iChat will only stay connected for 2 to 3 minutes.  If I disconnect my external monitor, iChat will stay connected all day long.  This just started last week after loading the latest SW upgrade.  Any ideas?

    Hi,
I am not going to be much use here.
    I don't have a computer with Thunderbolt.
The computer I do run a second screen on is a G4 running Leopard and in the Energy Saver there is no setting for the second screen to be set independently than the main screen.
