External monitor goes full screen

i have a custom two screen layout for Premiere Pro. but one of the monitor starts to play full screen an hides the other windows. Any tips on how to customize the video Playout?
Thanks
T

sounds like you have mercury transmit enabled, which is sending full screen video to the second monitor. you can turn it off in the preference settings, or from the program monitor in the wrench tool icon menu, "enable transmit".

  • Second monitor goes "blank" when first monitor goes full screen in Mtn Lion.

Hello Apple community. I am using two monitors and when I put a program like iTunes in fullscreen mode (with the arrow symbol in top right) the second monitor displays that grey patchwork and I can't move windows over there.
My question: Is there any setting to change this (so I could have one screen in fullscreen mode and the other screen on the desktop) or is this just the way it is?
    Any info would much appreciated!
    Thanks

It's just the way it is.
BetterTouchTool (free app, in the app store) has a little feature that resizes your windows to full size when you drag them near the top edge and returns them to the previous size when you drag them down again. I find this useful when using two monitors (saves you having to resize them manually).

Lol, figured out the first part. Just for those who may be searching, when you click on the Display Preferences, and click on the arraingment tab... it not only shows where your two screens will be displayed, but the WHITE BAR at the top of one screen is the dock/toolbar. Click and hold to grab this and just slide it over to the screen you'd like it to be on.
You have to release it IN the screen box, not on top of it... and it should pop right over to the new (or old) screen. At any rate, you can put the dock on either (or any) screen that you prefer.
I am thinking of ordering more of these. Lol. 3 monitor setup seems like it would be crazy good.
Still looking for the answer to keeping the new 16" screen on the right without switching between screen #s with that... not expose... Lion feature.
Thanks. Hope my other question has an answer out here.

  • Screen flashes... or an application goes full screen then disappears??!

A weird and definitely not-normal phenomenon has been happening lately. Somewhat rarely (every 5-6 hours) it seems like my screen flashes. Very briefly.. less than a second. It almost looks as if theres some application that goes full screen, then disappears, or maybe the screen just flashes. Something is definitely not right.
I don't see anything abnormal in my console though... nor in activity monitor. I've checked for loose connections, etc, and ran hardware tests. Cleared SMC and Pram. I consider myself quite computer savvy, and I install almost no applications, and keep everything nicely optimized.
    I'm using a Dell 3007WFP-HC display, FWIW.

Some people started having trouble with 8800GT after 10.5.7. Some even went back to 10.5.6 (good reason to always keep a backup boot system with last OS version).
Or start worrying it is the 8800GT going. Easy to test for IF you have an alternate graphics card handy.
Heat. Summer. 8800's don't do enough to kick in and properly cool the card on its own - single slot cards are not good at cooling and venting.

  • Can a SWF file resize in the PDF when user zooms or goes 'full screen'?

    Hi,
I've got some animation in my Indesign file which I've exported as a SWF and brought back in to InDesign.
I then create the Interactive PDF. It has a white background, so I select it in Acrobat and got to PROPERTIES and give it a transparent background.
BUT, when I go full screen or above 75% - the SWF shrinks on page.
The users of this PDF will need to zoom in, or go full screen. I really need the SWF to be resizing as the user goes full screen, or views it however they choose.
Is there a way to set the SWF to resize with the PDF?

Let me guess. You’re using InDesign CS5 and never bothered to install any of the patches.
    Download and install 7.0.4.

  • Can I run 2 monitor with one of the monitor having Full Screen for Elgato Eye TV?

My mac mini has Elgato 'Eye TV' software that runs in 'Full Screen'.  I want to keep this setting & also connect another monitor to the macmini & use other Appilications on the other monitor?  Can I run 2 monitor with one of the monitor having Full Screen for Elgato Eye TV?
    My early 2009 macmini can run Mac OS 10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8

Yes, run one from HDMI and the other from Thunderbolt/minidisplayport sockets. In EyeTV Preferences check the screen you want for full screen use and make sure your Dock is on the other one.

  • Satellite A100-646 and external monitor shows black screen

    Hello to everybody,
I have a similar problem with A100-646 (bought in Italy). Laptop's LCD and external monitor shows black screen but system boots without other problem. When laptop is not used for a long time (half a year) it work for one week without any problem.
Unfortunately, there is no proper service in a place where I live. Perhaps, there is a problem with power supply.
Is there other idea? Does anybody have a service manual? ([email protected])

It is not easy to find shop where you can order original and new hardware components.
Best source for such parts is definitely eBay where you can buy used but well working components.
Upgrade? You must know that upgrade on mobile computers is not the same as on desktops. Cooling possibilities are not the best and each notebook model has optimized cooling system for original parts. So new graphic card can be more powerful and produce more heat and it is definitely not good for your notebook. So best thing you can do is to replace it with original part.

  • Can't use external monitor as default monitor for full-screen settings

    Hey guys,
I have been trying to get quicktime to let me use my external monitor as the full-screen monitor. Every time I go into full-screen, it reverts back to my MBP screen.
I cannot seem to find this option even in the fullscreen preferences. Rather than having an option I can click on (like I've seen in pictures), it just says "Movie Size." I have Quicktime Pro 7.5.5 and I am running Leopard.
Any ideas? I can play most of my movies on VLC, but since I paid for Pro it would be nice if I can get it to work on my external monitor.

I have to say, I am in exactly the same place ppshr150 is. I have checked both Quicktime and Quicktime Player preferences and the option to choose a default screen for full-screen presentation of movies does not exist.
I can drag movies over to the second monitor and then press Command F and they will play there but from a presentation perspective, this is rather unprofessional.
It surprises me that Apple does not have this option. Or is it a bug they haven't/won't fix?

Hi, firetiger.... i have the EXACT same problem!!! i have the same Macbook aluminum unibody screen also. I have no idea how to fix it. I'm also out of warranty and i've tried everything... resetting the pram, trying to restart in safe mode, trying to boot from a cd... .NOTHING WORKS!!! i can still control brightness itself but ive never tried attaching to an external monitor. I know everything is loaded correctly... i just don't know whats wrong. If you have any ideas.. please let me know. Also, I think apple will fix the macbook pros with a similar issue for free http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377 but i know this doesnt apply for me. hopefully they work something out because I really love that computer!!!

  • How do I connect 2 external monitors with full HD to my MacBook Pro?

I would like to connect up my 2 external monitors to my MacBook Pro.  But I want to have full HD resolution.  I want to have the desktop stretched so I don't want mirror displays.  What is the best way to accomplish this?  Is there an adapter that I should use?

Thanks for the reply. Haven't gotten anything as yet. Just that I burned out my older PowerBook using it as a primary screen w/ a secondary 20" monitor. Would be nice if the MacBooks could be used as a CPU only, connect 2 different monitors, and use the LCD screen when portability is needed. But I suppose that is why Apple makes different types of computers. I know I can rig the video SCSI cable to bypass to LCD screen and use the other built-in monitor. But there goes the warentee and any kind of AppleCare... not that I have ever used it, (until a day after it has expired!)
But thanks for the feedback. Your reply is what I expected. Being that I am a mercenary graphic designer and need to be able to work whenever, and where-ever I need to, the MacPro is not my hardware of choice. As well, I don't have $4000 in my budget. But man do those machines rock! Just think of what NASA could have done with one of those in 1969 when we were going to the moon! But now that the U.S. has decided that manned space travel and even scientific space exploration is not worthy of having a budget, the MacPros are religated to creating new episodes of Jersey Shores!
    Thanks again for your feedback!

  • External monitor shows black screen

    Hey fella's,
I have an early 2011, 11'' Macbook Pro running Yosemite 10.10.1, which I've been hooking up to an IPS226 LG Flatron external monitor.
It did a number on me last week: the external monitor decided to show only a completely black screen. Like it's in power saving mode, except it isn't: the Mac recognises its existence, the laptop's monitor becomes a secondary screen. When I unplug the external monitor, it says "switching to power saving mode" and then goes black again...
Here's the kicker: I tried hooking it up to other laptops using different cables (mine is HDMI, so I tried VGA to another laptop) - worked like a charm. Then, when I plugged mine back in, also worked! Until today. Now it's happened again. What sorcery is this?
    Thanks!

    Hi Polindrom,
To troubleshoot this issue where the external display you're using with your Mac appears blank, please follow the directions outlined below.
No video or no signal, image distortion, "snow," or flickering
    Check connections
When using an external display be sure to check the following:
If you're using an Apple notebook, confirm the AC power cable or adapter is securely connected to the computer and the cable providing power to the display is also secure. It is always good to have your notebook connected to AC power when an external display is in use.
Confirm display adapters are fully seated in their respective connections and that they are supported models and for the computer and display. Refer to these articles to assist you with adapter compatibility and further configuration information:
    Monitor and Display Adapter Table
About Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters
Apple Mini DisplayPort adapters: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Thunderbolt ports and displays: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Remove all display cable extenders, KVM switches, or other like devices and retest to determine if the issue is resolved.
Try unplugging the video adapter or cable and then plug it back in.
If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.

  • Dual Monitor and Full screen playback in Color 1.0

So, I was wondering if somebody could help me out.
I have 2 screens, one is a 23" ACD other is a 23" dell. I am going to be color correcting with my Matrox MXO setup on the 23"ACD. Whenever I do full screen playback the waveform monitor and vectroscope and all that jazz is not available anymore (obviously because of full screen)
So I was wondering what my options were:
    1. Setup the waveform and vector scope to show on my primary display? (if possible, I'm not sure how to do it)
    2. Do I have to get another graphics card and run three monitors?
    3. If I Color grade with full screen playback disabled am I still utilizing the MXO for grading?
I am new to Color and how it works so I apologize if these questions seem "newbie-ish" of me.
    Thanks

Isn't there a SINGLE MONITOR option in COLOR? Use that.
I don't think two graphics cards will work with Color, as Color relies on the card when it comes time to render. Might mess it up, or not work.

  • Is my external monitor's full resolution supported?

My new 13" Macbook Pro came with the Nvidia 9400M graphics card installed.
I also purchased a 26" external graphics monitor with 1920 x 1200 screen resolution, plugged in through the Mac's mini-DVI port.
My intended use is photographic processing (non-video).
I get a monitor message under "Display Preferences", "Usable resolution 1280 x 800" when this external unit is selected.
Can this card support the full resolution of this large external monitor?
    Thanks for any feedback.
    Don Bethel
    Santa Fe, NM

Yes, it certainly can. But your MBP doesn't have a mini-DVI port; it has a mini-DisplayPort. Exactly how are you connecting that to the external monitor?
If your external monitor is limited to 1280 x 800, that's a clear indication that you are in Display Mirroring mode instead of Extended Desktop mode. The latter will enable your external display to operate at its native resolution.

  • How do I use my second monitor when first monitor in full screen??

  • External monitor goes black when macbook pro has magsafe connected

    Hi,
I have bought an external monitor about 1 week ago, and I have it connected with a minidisplay to dvi cable, and a dvi cable to the monitor.
It was working OK -well, it had some sudden flash to black screen that lasted about 1 second, but nothing else- until thir morning when it just started showing a black screen. Mac OS sees the monitor, and I can move windows over there, etc. It's "alive". But I only see a black screen on the monitor.
I tested with other computer, and it works OK. The cables work too.
What I discovered is that if I unplug the power adaptor from the MBP the monitor screen shows correctly.
It works OK only if the magsafe adaptor is unplugged from the MBP, it doesn't care if the magsafe adaptor is plugged to the power or not; only if it's connected to the mac book pro.
It seems like some magnet stuff is making a mess there. What could it be? I can't work on the monitor only in battery power...
I tried resetting nvram and the other stuffs that I found here, but nothing works.
    Thanks!
