External monitor with external mouse and keyboard. what am I doing wrong?

I got a iBook G3 with 600 MHz , 640 RAM, running 10.4.10. I bought a external keyboard, mouse and got a free ViewSonic Monitor from school so I hoped that I would be able to use all of these while the lid of my computer was closed. I close it, wait a few seconds, press random keys on my external keyboard to wake it up and it at first appears that it works but then it just goes back to sleep after about 1 min at the most. If you could help me I'd appreciate it. THANKS!!!!

You aren't doing anything wrong; the iBook is supposed to sleep whenever you close it. It's designed to work that way, ostensibly so that it won't overheat.
Apple's word on the matter can be found in this Apple Knowledge Base article:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=88199
Others have addressed the problem by simply darkening the display with the F1 key and leaving the iBook open an inch or so.

No, nothing will prevent the computer from going to sleep when you close its display except third-party hacks that are designed to do exactly that. I strongly advise against using any of those, as they may interfere with successful entry into clamshell mode (and they carry other downside risks as well). Just wait until the computer is asleep (with its sleep light pulsing), then press any key on the keyboard. It sounds as though your setup is working as it's designed to do.

You are referring to a feature called Clamshell Mode, please read Clamshell Mode setup for instructions.
BTW when posting when you use generalities such as "have tried everything" this tells us nothing. When posting please be specific and try to paint a complete picture. It just makes things easier for those trying to help you.

Your description of the issue is not clear:
What format, bit depth and color was your original file "from the net"?  It sounds like it was a Color Indexed GIF, which would cause what you are describing.
In the Macintosh Finder, select said "net image" and do a Get Info on it (Command+i). When the Info box appears in the Finder, take a screen shot and upload it here by using the little camera icon in the Reply Editor in the forum's web interface.
If the image is a 256-color GIF, remember the rule:  GIGO = garbage in, garbage out.

    What am I doing wrong?

After selecting and deleting region, and joining remaining parts, it keeps playing the track with the deleted region!
    What am I doing wrong?
How exactly are you doing this?
When I cut out a part of an audio region, then drag the remaining parts together, so they are touching, the track will skip the cut out section when playing the file.  Also, if I select the remaining parts of the region and use the command "Edit > join regions". This will create a new audio file with the cut out part deleted.
You should see this prompt, when you are joining the regions:

You haven't opened an account with that Apple ID in iTunes. Open iTunes and log in. A dialog will appear in which you need to enter your Apple ID and/or password. Below it you should see a link for creating a new account. Click on that link to get started.

  • Viewing on external monitor with ADVC-100 and s video

I am trying to view my canvas on a external monitor. I have a canopus ADVC-100 and i am using the firewire input and the s video as the output in the back. When I try to set it up and i select view all frames, but when i go to the video output menu it says my firewire device is missing. Any hints or tips on what i am doing wrong. I am using the s-video because the monitor only has a components input available, the RCA's are already occupied.

Is the ADVC powered? When you connect firewire to the back of the unit, it gets powered by that connector, but the firewire jack on the front is only 4-pin and doesn't support power.
If you have a 6-pin to 6-pin firewire cable, try connecting it to the back of the ADVC110 and then the front of the box should light up, indicating power.
I'm having a similar issue. I can print to tape via the Canopus box, but I want to be able to drive a monitor with it just so I can have an NTSC monitor while I'm editing. I can't seem to make it work. Any ideas?

  • Boot-camp/Windows with cordless mouse and keyboard

I am picking up my 27" quad core iMac tomorrow. In anticipation I bought the Pogue book on Snow Leopard. In it he says that you can't install Windows with the cordless mouse and keyboard but that once installed it can be used with the cordless mouse/keyboard. Will someone please tell me he is wrong .
    Thanks.
    Alan

I used mine to install Windows. Worked just fine till the Apple Bluetooth drivers were installed, then I just had to connect a regular USB keyboard/mouse to pair the bluetooth keyboard and mouse again.
One suggestion, after you install the Boot Camp drivers and plug in your USB keyboard/mouse, uninstall the "Apple Bluetooth" drivers (I believe there are two of them) and restart your computer. Let Windows automatically install generic drivers for the built in bluetooth, THEN pair your wireless keyboard and mouse. After that you can reinstall the Apple bluetooth drivers if you want, although I don't think it's particularly necessary. The generic drivers seem to work fine in my experience.
You may run into trouble pairing your keyboard and mouse, if so, refer to the "Boot Camp" section on this site, there are millions of threads about it there.

  • Do I require wired mouse and keyboard to bootcamp on imac 2012 with bluetooth mouse and keyboard?

have just purchased a late 2012 imac which I want to bootcamp. Have read on some posts that during the process you lose the use of mouse and keyboard as they are bluetooth and windows does not have the drivers, so you need a wired mouse and keyboard to bootcamp the imac.
Is this correct as there is nothing in the Apple bootcamp guide mentioning this.
would appreciate some assistance on this point.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
In theory, you don't need a USB mouse and keyboard because the iMac can detect the Bluetooth ones during startup (difficult but it can). If you are new, I recommend you to get a USB mouse and keyboard to install Windows in Boot Camp, so installation will be easier and you won't have any problem to start up in OS X later.
With the USB keyboard  and mouse, it's as simple as following the Apple's steps to install Windows on your Mac > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf It's very important to download the Windows support software, which you will need to make Windows work correctly

  • ICloud not pushing apps between iPad and iPhone what am I doing wrong

I have a new iPad2 and a new iPhone4.  I put iOS5 on both of them.  My understanding of this was when you purchased an app on one device it would push to your other devices.  I did this and the apps do not push to my other device.  I use the same Apple ID for both if that matters.  I set up iCloud on both devices, turned everything "on" and created an @me account.  What am I doing wrong?  Thank you in advance for any help...feeling like an iDiot

I believe you are misunderstanding.  You don't sync apps between iPad and iPhone, and iCloud has nothing to do with any of this.  There is a setting in Settings -> Store where you can set each device to automatically download NEW apps, meaning that when you buy a new app on one device, the other automatically downloads it.  However, this is for new downloads only.
For your existing apps, you can simply connect each device to your computer and move the desired apps to it in iTunes.  Or you can go to the App Store and re-download those apps.

  • Roaming with my mouse and keyboard

I have a mac mini hooked up to my TV in the living room, and a Mac Pro dev machine in my office .. just bought myself the wireless keyboard and mighty mouse ..
shouldn't I be able to roam between the two rooms without having to go through the re-pairing process each time??

I just switched to mac, so I use my old desktopPC at home, and my macbook pro at work, which travels with me. I recently purchased a belkin KVM switch, whose purpose is to allow 2 different computers (my laptop and desktopPC) to use the same set of peripherals (Keyboard, Video monitor & Mouse). That way, theoretically, I just need to plug in the laptop, press a button, and voila! I can switch between my 2 computers.... Since both my mac and DesktopPC has bluetooth capability, I purchased an Apple bluetooth wireless keyboard, thinking I could pair the keyboard to both computers. WRONG!! I quickly found that I could only pair the bluetooth keyboard to one computer at a time, and if I switched computers using the KVM switch (similar to your roaming between your living rm. & office), I need to each time re-pair the bluetooth keyboard to the appropriate computer that I am using... An inconvenience. I wonder if there is a device that would act as a router or switcher of sorts, that would "remember" the keycode, to allow one bluetooth pair ID keycode for multiple computers... Anyone got any ideas?

  • Mac mini setup with wireless mouse and keyboard

Bought a new mini with wireless keyboard and mouse. Turns on, picks up the mouse and as soon as the registration setup window starts the connection is lost. It never picked up the keyboard. Apple support said it is not possible to set up a new mini with the wireless accessories so go buy wired ones. Is this really true? Is there a way to skip the registration window, install the wireless keyboard and mouse? Has anyone else had this problem?
If what the phone support guy said is true then I am a very unhappy new Mac purchaser. Nowhere on the Mac mini site or even in the instruction booklet does it say that you have to have the wired accessories and now apparently I'll have to buy two of everything. Total garbage.

Can you beg/borrow or steal any ("Windows") USB keyboard and mouse?  They should get you going.  You'll only need them for a few minutes when starting up, once.
"Garbage" doesn't endear yourself when asking for help on an Apple board though!

the keyboard works perfect in onthercomputer as well as the mouse does.

Are you using an Apple pointing device and keyboard?
Is there anything around the Minis that would restrict wifi reception?
I just moved my external HD from directly on top of my 2009 Mini and it improved wifi speed.. I also use the Apple trackpad and small BT Apple keyboard.
The BT/wifi card is not replaceable. You could purchase a USB wifi adopter

  • IMac 27" i5: Bluetooth Enabler Driver Problem with Magic Mouse and Keyboard

So I just got my iMac 27" Quad Core i5 computer and was able to succesfully install Windows 7 64-bit (using this guide to get past the blank screen problem http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10533092). I then installed the Boot Camp 3 drivers from the Mac OS CD and updated windows via Windows Update. Everything seemed to work well.
I even had right click and scrolling capabilities with the MAGIC MOUSE! Also, all the keys were functional on the wireless keyboard.
However, after a few minutes of use the keyboard and mouse would hang and get stuck and I would have to do a hard reboot of the machine. I uninstalled the Apple Bluetooth drivers from the Add/Remove Programs menu and it fixed the problems with the devices getting stuck. However, function keys on the keyboard (brightness, volume, etc.) and scrolling in the Magic Mouse now not work. Is anyone else having this problem?

I found a solution, and everything now works! I followed step three in this discussion http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2221427&tstart=0 which says:
Disable power management for Bluetooth Radio. Open device manager, open Bluetooth Radios and right click on "Apple Bluetooth". Select the "Power Management". Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
