External Monitoring - Mac Mini to YPbPr

I'm trying to connect my Imac to a 20" LCD Monitor. I have the Mac Mini Display to VGA to YPbPr adaptor. But the Imac doesn't see the device.
Help Please

If you are looking for an "external monitor", that is, a screen that shows you how the real TV/HDTV signal appears, what you just mentioned will not work.
What you suggest simply extends the Mac desktop. This is not a TV signal but a computer one. To see the TV signal, you need a converter to provide it.
That being said, if all you want is a larger desktop, VGA is really lousy way to connect a computer monitor. Get a computer monitor with a DVI connection. At least it will look crisp enough to read text.

  • Connect two external monitors to mini DP(using a mini DP to VGA adapter) and the VGA out at once

I am trying to  connect two external monitors to mini DP(using a mini DP to VGA adapter) and the VGA out at once. Windows recognize both monitors as well. But it dowsn't let me use all three monitors at once(see the below image). In the dropdown, it lists all three monitors. Problem is there are two active displays I can select.

The GPU(s) in your T400 (and most other laptop brands) will support two different displays concurrently.  If you want to support more than two different displays concurrently, you will need another GPU external to the T400.
Generally, if you want to use two external displays on a T400 you will nee dto use a docking station.
I have read messages on various fora on this topic and know that there are a number of ways of doing this, but as I have never had a need to do this myself I can't tell you how to go about it.

  • Fuzzy Display on External Monitors MAC Book Pro

    Morning all,
Right, I've had my MBP for over 6 months now and I love it. Great piece of kit, and I wish I'd come across to OSX years ago. Having said that, I've come across an annoying issue with using external monitors. I have the latest MBP and the software version is 10.9.4. The issue is I have two monitors plugged into the MAC via Mini-Port to DVI to HDMI cables. The main issue is the fonts are quite fuzzy. It's not terrible, but its very frustrating. The weird thing is if I connect to my windows machine via Remote Desktop when Windows loads up its crisp and clear, yet everything behind that window on the same screen on the MAC is fuzzy. Very peculiar.
Secondly the resolution isnt the best. Especially considering what these monitors are capable of on my Windows PC.
I'm sure this must be a common issue? Hopefully there is an easy solution. I can put up with it, but considering how much I've paid for the MAC I would expect a lot better. Just so you know, I'm not tecky on the MAC at all!
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

  • Dual Monitor, Mac Mini

    Hi
I have looked around and most places say buy this dual head 2 go thing but i dont want to spend loads, anyway.
I have an old mac mini G4 with Raedon 9200 graphics card, and so can i get dual monitors working with my mac? I dont care how, anyway possible, i would like to know thanks.
Also im looking into getting a new intel mac mini would that support dual monitors?
I did order some bits off amazon, and now i want to get my vga TV and vga monitor going together, i bought a DVI splitter, 1 male and 2 female connectors. From them i have an adaptor on each going from dvi to vga and having vga cables going to each my TV and monitor.
Anyway even better if you can help me get it working with those cables, no matter if you cant but please let me know if there are other ways. Thanks. Any help much appreciated.

    The simple answers are:
I have an old mac mini G4 with Raedon 9200 graphics card, and so can i get dual monitors working with my mac? I dont care how, anyway possible, i would like to know thanks.
There is no native support for dual display output from the mini. It cab potentially support mirroring with a splitter, but both displays would have to be capable of the same resolution(s) in order for that to work, and even then if they are not identical the mini could be readily confused by receiving two conflicting display IDs.
An external device - namely the Matrox product - would be needed.
Also im looking into getting a new intel mac mini would that support dual monitors?
No. While it has different video controllers, the display output is the same single video DVI-I as the G4 mini. It can thus be split with the same degree of success (or otherwise) for mirroring, but without such as the Matrox unit, not spanned across displays.

  • IMac does not recognize external monitor using Mini Display Port to HDMI

    Hello,
I have been trying to get an external monitor (HDTV) set up for use with my iMac using a Mini Display Port to HDMI cable I just got. However, when I connect it to my iMac's mini display port, the imac's screen goes black for about a second, then returns, but it does not detect the external display. The other display is just showing a "no signal" message on the screen.
I have restarted, reset PRAM, connected and disconnected the cable several times, tried changing the resolution on the imac, plugged in/out the other display, and clicked the "detect displays" button using the option key in display preferences, but nothing has worked.
I am using an early 2009 iMac running Mavericks.
I've been using the AirParrot app, but it's horrible for video and a little slow.
Can anyone please help sort the issue here? I feel like ive exhausted everything that I know to do.
    Thanks.

I am having the same issue.  Hope Apple can fix this soon!!!

  • Daisy chain 2 monitors Mac Mini

    Hello,
Im currently running a Mac Mini (Late 2014). I'm currently using 2, Dell S2240M monitors, but am in the market for new displays. Currently I have each monitor connected to their own individual thunderbolt port using a thunderbolt to VGA adaptor (as the monitors themselves only support VGA & DVI-D connections). In my research I've come across others dasiychaining monitors together through a single Thunderbolt port, connecting the first monitor to the second via another Thunderbolt cable. Does anyone know the requirements to do this? Am I able to do just as well using DVI-D /VGA to receive the same outcome? Does anyone have another workaround for doing this?
Ultimately I would rather not pay a thousand dollars twice for two Thunderbolt displays so as you can imagine, Im open to trying other workarounds if anyone has one.

That daisy-chaining only works with Thunderbolt monitors and App is the only one making them.
The Thunderbolt port on a Mac, except with a Thunderbolt monitor, uses the Mac's Thunderbolt port as a mini displayport and that does not support daisy-chaining

  • Old formac monitor + Mac mini?

I'm planning to buy a Mac mini, to upgrade from a desktop G4 (2001). I assume that it will also be time to say goodbye to our (also 8-yr.-old) formac ProNitron 17" monitor, as we won't be able to use it with the new Mac?

As long as the monitor has a VGA or DVI connecter and you get the right adapter (a one for DVI is included).
If you don't know, VGA is purple/blue and DVI is white
You can get a mini Display Port to VGA from the Apple store or at the online store.
For the best Mac experience I recommend a widescreen monitor. If you can't afford the Apple monitor, go for any Dell monitor.

  • Every time I mount my Seagate external my Mac Mini restarts. Help?

I  use my external going back and forth between my PC and Mac Mini. Everytime I try and plug it into my Mac Mini it just keeps restarting the Mac. Help?!?

It's not a good idea to share the EHD with a PC and Mac, I'd recommend getting seperate EHD for the Mac and formatting it as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

  • TouchScreen Monitor + mac mini = don't work

There is a big monitor with TouchScreen. It works fine connected via USB with any computer with Windows XP or Windows 7. But it doesn't work with mac mini. What I have to do to force it to work normally?

    alvacom wrote:
I use USB wire which was together with monitor.  Any other computer with Windows works fine with this USB wire. Anybody knows why mac mini doesn't work?
When you say it does not work, what do you mean? Do you mean no video appears? If so you need to connec tthe monitor to the Mac via VGA, or DVI, or HDMI, or Displayport, etc.
If however you are referring to the fact it does display an image but the Touch screen capability does not work, then this is almost certainly because your Mac does not (at this point) have the right software drivers installed to enable this capability. The reason the Windows computers work is either because they already have the drivers installed or because Windows has automatically downloaded and installed the drivers.
You also don't detail what make and model of monitor you are referring to. It is possible some makes and models can be made to work with the right software (for Mac). However be aware that some makes/models only support limited touch capabilities, for example most HP Touchscreen displays only support two finger touches and not three or more.
In response previously to someone else who wanted to use a HP Touchscreen with a Mac I found this website http://touch-base.com/download.asp which has drivers for various makes and models of touchscreen display.

  • Should I replace failed hard drive in imac 4,1 or run from external or mac mini?

My hard drive failed in my iMac 4,1 (early 2006 intel). I am running from an external drive, but slow. Should I replace the hard drive ($300 at Apple), purchase a better external to run from or a mac mini? I'm trying to determine if it makes sense to invest further in this iMac since its 5 yrs old already. Can any one offer some insight/opinion?

    Hi moreenie
Your profile does not indicate your geographic location, but there are Authorize Apple Service Providers that can and will do the work for considerably less than your local Apple Store.
    http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service/
Call around, at less than $200 to replace the Hard Drive, it makes a little more sense to fix and use it for another year or two...
I replace the Hard Drive in my Early 2006 a couple of years ago not because it died, but because it became to small.
Sorry I can't honestly help you decide, because I'm torn and can't decide for myself. Not liking the Glossy iMac's, I've also been toying with the idea of either a Mac-Mini or used Mac Pro? My biggest problem with the Mac-Mini is, that by the time you do a few upgrades it cost as much as a base iMac.

  • Duel Monitors Mac Mini

I am getting a mac mini and want to hook up duel monitors on it. Each monitor has a single VGA, DVI, and HDMI port. For the first one I will use the HDMI to DVI adapter and for the second I would like to use the MiniDisplay(AKA thunderbolt) to DVI adapter. I heard some people saying it wont work for a second monitor because its passive and not active and stuff like that. How true is that?

    FYI: It's, "dual," not, "duel."
A "duel" is something 2 people do with pistols.

  • Clear Cinema Monitor & Mac Mini

I have what I assume is a stupid question, but better safe than whatever. Is there any issue with hooking up the older clear cinema monitors to a mac mini (I assume all mac mini's are intel based)? I need a replacement monitor, but don't want to buy new because I'm planning on buying a new imac within the next year. Thanks for any guidance provided for the clueless.

If the display uses ADC (Apple Display Connector)
    <http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/09/AppleDisplayConnector.jpg>
you will need a DVI to ADC adapter

i did what you said and tried with other resolution/refresh rate combinations, also with anoter external monitor (and vga cable) but its still the same: monitor is detected but there's no signal.
