External Portable Battery Source Recommendations?

I am looking for an external power source to set next my computer on a card table outdoors. I was looking for something you could just plug the existing Apple battery charging wall socket cord into and attach the other end to the MacBook Pro. The power source has to be protable - I'd like to carry it in my existing large laptop portfolio bag if possible so I am not really looking for a emergency backup supply. The existing battery works great, but lasts about 3 hours - I'd like to see 8 hours.

Antifor: In case you find the Hypershop web site as disorganized and confusing as I did, just scroll directly to the bottom of the page wjosten has linked to see their lineup of external battery packs.

  • External, portable back-up battery for iPad

I'll be serving in the Peace Corps and may not have access to unlimited electricity as I do in the states. I'm looking for your recommendations on external, portable back up batteries for iPad - both what you like and what you don't like; what you'd recommend and what was a waste of your money.
    Thanks.

I've used external batteries from New Trent and have always found them to be reliable and a very good value. Search Amazon for "New Trent" or visit their web site (with the same name).
Be sure you check the battery for 2.1 amp output (for tablet) that is capable of charging the iPad properly.

  • Seeking external battery source

I fly back and forth from the east to the west coast for work and would like to purchase an external battery source for my mac. Problem is most of the ones online don't specify if they have an adapter for a mac.
Does anyone here have any suggestions on what I can look for online that would work for maybe a 4-5 hour external battery source?

I'm looking for exactly the same product. It's very annoying to have to change batteries: charging the second battery is a hassle and you have to shut down the computer to replace it. Having an external battery makes much more sense to me...
I found two options worth while checking out:
    http://www.quickertek.com/
    http://www.batterygeek.net/
However, I would prefer an Apple solution, with the aesthetics and ease of use that Apple typically provides.
    Is anybody at Apple listening?

  • External Portable HD Compatibility

    Hello everyone,
I have been experiencing a total nightmare in regards of finding a portable external HD of 1TB for my iMac (10.4.11).
I have been suggested by Seagate to buy the Backup Plus, told that it was compatible, but since then l have been through a total mess.
The drive is slower than a prehistoric 500GB Desktop Extrnal HD (about double the time) and it has been driving me creazy.
I was thinking to get a refund and buy another one but l don't know which one is compatible.
So: do anybody knows what External Portable HD 1TB is compatible with my mac?
    Thank you.
Ps: please don't tell me "one with this characteristics", but please tell me an actual name I.e, "DriveABC".
    Many thanks

I would not rely on a powerless external drive. From what I have read, it's iffy.
I'd give OWC a call & see what they have to say.
I'd recommend a firewire drive for your machine.
You need an external Firewire drive to boot a PowerPC Mac computer [ a few G5's will boot from USB ].
I recommend you do a google search on any external harddrive you are looking at.
I bought a low cost external drive enclosure. When I started having trouble with it, I did a google search and found a lot of complaints about the drive enclosure. I ended up buying a new drive enclosure. On my second go around, I decided to buy a drive enclosure with a good history of working with Macs. The chip set seems to be the key ingredient. The Oxford line of chips seems to be good. I got the Oxford 911.
    I'd give OWC a call. 1-815-338-8685.

  • What are the best external backup battery choices for the iPod Touch 4G?

    Hello,
I am so disappointed with the battery life on my iPod Touch 4G, even when I turn off location services and notifications and put it in airplane mode.
As such, I realize that I am going to have to get an external backup battery, even though I don't like the idea of carrying around yet another item.
What are the best choices out there, especially any ultra-portable (aka small and non-bulky) ones?  I came across this Juice Pack Air - iPod Touch 4G Case, which seems like the perfect solution, but it is on back order and seems to have been so for a good amount of time.  Who knows when it will be in stock again.
TIA for any and all help!

bumping up (I hope doing so is allowed.)

  • 3GS battery case recommendations

I am looking for a case that has a built in battery for a 3GS. Something similar to the mophie case, but includes the apple connector. I don't really want to mess with multiple connectors and etc. I have had bad issues with 1 iPhones in the past year. They were bought on eBay and were in decent shape. First was ourchased last September and arrived with a random battery dyiny, and taking a while to come back on. Battery was replaced in October and lasted until early May. The battery ended up swelling and may have damaged the board since the camera did not work, nor did cleaning contact, or new camera. New phone was bought in early july and is working fine, but I would like to have a portable battery or a case with a battery. I have found some items that would be perfect, but not sure of the sites they are on. Thanks for any help.

Got the same problem. My MBP is 2 years old and the battery exploded, literally, while working. My dealer told me there is no warranty and I just saw that Apple stopped the free exchange of the bad manufactured batteries. I will have to buy a new battery for app. 135€ / $192.
    My computer was 2700 € / $3840
    It's a shame!

  • Portable battery pack

I'm looking for a portable battery pack to use with ap350 and br350 when doing a site survey. any recommendations, manufacturers, etc.?

I’m just curios if you bought the battery pack from Terra-Wave and if it worked together with the 350-serie? The specification of the battery pack says that it can deliver 5V and 12V (according to their homepage). My concern it that 350-units uses inline power and that the input power requirements for AP350 units are “24VDC 10% to 60 VDC (Ethernet line power)” compared to the AP340 that have a power consumption of 5V5% @ 800 mA.
I am looking for a battery pack that works with 350 units myself, and I would appreciate any comment of the topic.
The only product I have seen that should work together with AP350 is available here. http://www.ensign-net.co.uk/EWS/mainframe.htm

  • I have pluged a portable battery to the USB and my macbook pro stopped working after that, right before it shut down there was a message on the screen that said something like " USB device is withdrawing so much power, please disconnect and connect again?

I have plugged a portable battery to the USB and my macbook pro stopped working after that, right before it shut down there was a message on the screen that said something like " USB device is withdrawing so much power, please disconnect and connect again?
if the device I connected have caused this, shouldn't the macbook itself have some type of protection that should prevent this from happening.
because when I took it to an apple certified maintenance shop, the guy said that now it could only run while connected to the power. it won't run on batteries. and that I have to change the motherboard.
can I just replace the damaged part only, would apple consider this as a design issue and they could pay for it, or should I just buy a new motherboard for 800$.
    Help.

    BB1B2,
The problem is in finding a tech shop that will/can do board level repairs on Macs. They are few. And I certainly wouldn't spend $800 on a new logic board - I would replace the computer if I had to pay that much!
You could call around to a few repair shops and see if they feel competent to isolate the problem and do a board level repair - but I'm afraid, in the end, that your search will be futile.
    Sorry,

  • I want to set up the Time Machine and I would love to use the Time  Capsule but since I already have a wireless router I need suggestions on  what other external disks Apple could recommend to use with the Time Machine and  how to configure that disk

I want to set up the Time Machine and I would love to use the Time
Capsule but since I already have a wireless router I need suggestions on
    what other
external disks Apple could recommend to use with the Time Machine and
    how to configure that disk.
A complication that I need to resolve is the fact that I am using Vmware
Fusion to be able to use Windows on my Mac. Now it seems that Time
Machine is not backing up my files
on that virtual Windows without additional configuration and my question
is whether you can advise me here or whether this is only a matter for
    the Fusion virtual machine.

If you want to use Time Capsule you can.. you simply bridge it and plug it into the existing router.. wireless can be either turned off or used to reinforce the existing wireless.. eg use 5ghz in the TC which is much faster than your 2.4ghz.
You can also use a NAS.. many brands available but the top brands are synology, qnap and netgear readynas  series. These will all do Time Machine backups although how well always depends on Apple sticking to a standard. There are cheaper ones.. I bought a single disk zyxel which was rebadged and sold through my local supermarket. It actually works very well for TM at least on Snow Leopard. Major changes were made in Lion and again ML so do not instantly think it will work on later versions. I haven't tried it yet with those versions.
Any external drive can be plugged into the mac. Use the one with the fastest connection or cheapest price according to your budget. USB2 drives are cheap and plentiful. But no where near as fast as USB3 or FW800. So just pick whichever suits the ports on your Mac. Interesting Apple finally moved to USB3 on their latest computers.
TM should exclude the VM partition file.. it is useless backing it up from Mac OS side.. and will slow TM as it needs to backup that partition everyday for no purpose.. TM cannot see the files inside it to backup just the changes.
You need to backup windows from windows. Use MSbackup to external drive.. if you have pro or ultimate versions you can backup to network drive. But MSbackup is a dog.. at least until the latest version it cannot restore the partition without first loading windows. There are about a zillion backup software versions for windows.. look up reviews and buy one which works for you. I use a free one Macrium Reflect which does full disk backups and is easy to restore.. to do incremental backups though you have to pay for it.

    Hi Robert
Do yo mean something like this:
    int main(int argc, char* argv[])

        TaskHandle aiTaskHandle = 0;

        error = DAQmxCreateAIVoltageChan(aiTaskHandle, "Dev1/ai0", "", DAQmx_Val_RSE, -5.0, 5.0, DAQmx_Val_Volts, "");

        error = DAQmxCfgSampClkTiming(digiTaskHandle,"/Dev1/ai/SampleClock" ,1000.0,DAQmx_Val_Rising,DAQmx_Val_ContSamps,1000);
        error = DAQmxStartTask(aiTaskHandle);

    //    error = DAQmxReadAnalogF64(aiTaskHandle, 10, 20.0, DAQmx_Val_GroupByChannel, dummyBuffer, 10, NULL, NULL);

  • Is there any adapter to make my AC Magsafe charger into a USB so I can use my portable battery?

I have a regular Magsafe charger to charge my MacBook Air. I am looking for an adapter that my AC can plug into to make it a USB to be able to charge my MacBook when a plug is not around.

I understand that I can not charge via USB. What I am saying...is there an adapter I cant put on my AC cord that would turn it into a USB therefore being able to plug into portable battery. So in other words the big white box that has a removeable prong (you plug into wall) plug into adapter that turns that into a USB. Kind of like the chargers the iPhones currently come with except reversed.

  • I need a good portable battery backup for my iphone5.  Needs to be small and able to recharge the phone at least twice before it runs out of juice.  Any suggestions?

I need a small portable battery charger for my iphone5.  It seems to eat the battery quickly and there are times when I am away from a outlet to plug into.  Like I said it needs to be small, and rugged, as it will be out in the boat or out in the woods while hunting

Bought the same SRW2048 thinking it should be a good upgrade for the unmanaged 10/100 switch, but within the first two weeks, I need RMA. Then the new switch is starting to have similar problem. Some are trying to blame some network packets causing the switch to reboot. I have a pretty simple default configuration (plug it in, assign IP and plug in workstations!)
    Here's my laundry list:
    - Time is off, never come back to the right one and SNTP never really works. When the switch reboots, I get back to the 00/00/00 and it's a pain to the time right.
    - I see ports going online and offline and lots of them. I know there are nobody at the office, so it has got to be the switch.
We do not have any complex network set up, just one SRW2048 to a ~30 node s network. One one side is the clients and on the upside is a pix firewall.
It's so hard to setup each time the switch reboots, the whole office scramble and lost work.
If you guys have an answer to why ports go offline/online, etc... or why the switch does a cold start, please share.

  • Any portable battery packs that work with the iPhone?

I'll be doing a lot of "line waiting" next week and would like to use the iPhone for entertainment (internet/movie watching). I believe they're rated to last about 6-7 hours but I haven't been getting that much from mine (I'd also want something as a backup in case my battery dies on me and I'm not by a charger (or have the time to let it charge)).
I've seen portable battery packs for the ipod (that plug into the dock connector) but do any work with the iPhone?

I haven't tried one, but I think it's extremely likely that it would work. All the reports are that every iPod charging accessory - wall adapters, car adapters - works with iPhone.

  • Portable battery not charging Ipad Air

got an ipad air, only charges through the adaptor, nothing else. anyone has the same question?

My iPad Air charged from a USB port on my computer, a USB port in my wall outlet and from and Anker portable battery.
Are you using a certified lightning to USB cable? Be sure to use a good cable. Try with the cable that came with the iPad if you are using different cables.
First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
