External Providers when No Firewall is used

Has anyone been successful in implementing YellowBrix portlets into their Portal
pages when not accessing the Internet via a firewall? The process appears to be fairly simple when a firewall is used but following the same instructions when direct access to the internet is available allows the portlets to be displayed in the portlet repository but when trying to use them in a Portal page only a blank page is displayed.

Why don't you give us that idea?  Try another WM, see if the problem remains.
Also, what is the video card and driver that you are using?

The issue is not reproducible by a certain way. It happens randomly. Using a new WM will require configuring it and it takes time. That's why I got lazy. I'll have to use it for a few days and see if I see any issues. If that's the only thing I can do, I'll certainly do that.

  • I have my iPhoto set to an external drive yesterday when it was in use the usb disconnected i now have a message saying (your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable) I have tried shutting down and restarting.

I have my iPhoto set to an external drive, when it was in use the usb disconected as i was moving my mac air, when i re-conected a message said (your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable).
I have tried shutting it down and then re opening iPhoto but get the same message.
The reason for the external drive was there was not enough room on my hard drive, I have around 7000 photos on it.
    is there a simple fix?
    Regards

    These are your options:
    1. Restore the iPhoto library from the most recent backup that predates the issue.
Advantages: Always works, if library damage is causing the problem and the backup is intact.
Disadvantages: Impossible if you don't have a backup. All changes made since the backup are lost.
    2. Repair or rebuild the library. Be sure to back it up first.
Advantages: May solve the problem with no loss of data.
Disadvantages: May fail. May take a long time if the library is large.
    3. Scavenge the library with a third-party application called "iPhoto Library Manager," which you can find in a web search. From the application's menu bar (not the iPhoto menu bar), select Library ▹ Rebuild.
Advantages: All images and albums should be preserved.
Disadvantages: All books, calendars, and slideshows will be lost.

    Do not worry about it.
Time Machine needs that your external drive is formatted in HFS+, or better known as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". This filesystem is used by Apple on Macs and Windows cannot read or write drives formatted with this filesystem, being this the reason why all your devices do not read the external drive except your Mac.
You can only use your external drive to make Time Machine drives. If you store anything different, you may damage the Time Machine structure, so it is better not to use it as a drive to store other data. Instead, get another external drive to do it or create a second partition on the external drive formatted in FAT32 by using Disk Utility > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU3.html FAT32 can be read by Windows PCs

Your call of course but IMO a waste of money. Please read this first:
There are many forms of ‘Malware’ that can affect a computer system, of which ‘a virus’ is but one type, ‘trojans’ another. Using the strict definition of a computer virus, no viruses that can attack OS X have so far been detected 'in the wild', i.e. in anything other than laboratory conditions. The same is not true of other forms of malware, such as Trojans. Whilst it is a fairly safe bet that your Mac has NOT been infected by a virus, it may have another security-related problem, but more likely a technical problem unrelated to any malware threat.

The reason that threadjacking is frowned on (as mentioned in the terms use which you can read by clicking the link to the right on this page) is for the most part a practical one:
By starting your own thread your problem can get individual attention, focussed on your particular set of circumstances.
By joining somebody else's thread it becomes tricky to answer more than one question at the same time, and can lead to confusion for both parties.
So if you don't mind the minor inconvenience, please start your own thread (in the correct forum) so we can get to grips with your particular problem!

    Hello,
All outputs from the SCXI module are measured in differential mode. You can still mix differential and single ended measurements (if you use the remaining channels of your daq board).
The easiest way to mix modes is with virtual channels. All SCXI analog input channels will be differential, while you can make other virtual channels differential or single ended. If you don't want to use virtual channels, you can use AI Hardware Config in LabVIEW to change the mode.
    Hope this helps. Regards,

You can't open the html file by double clicking the file similar to web apps since HWC is a hybrid app and its a proprietary solution, but you can do that with debug tool like weinre. I assume that "Generate to external Folder" is just an option to keep the folder related to Hybrid app in a separate location because folder generated with this option has same files.

  • RMI server behind firewall--must use host as name, not IP

Server is running behind a firewall, which runs such that any machine behind the firewall cannot use the external IP to get back to itself.
    That is:
    - outside IP = 192.171.20.5 (port forwards 1099 to 192.168.1.5:1099)
    - inside IP = 192.168.1.5 (rmi server listens on 1099)
from the machine inside (192.168.1.5), it is IMPOSSIBLE to create a socket to [outside ip](192.171.20.5), port 1099, and expect it to get back to the machine inside--the firewall prohibits this.
I -can- use name-based lookups, such that I can edit the hosts file on the inside box to route (myhost.com to 192.168.1.5). So, if everyone's DNS resolves myhost.com -> 192.171.20.5, then clients anywhere can go to myhost.com:1099 and will be redirected to my internal machine (192.168.1.5:1099).
The problem with this is that the names get translated to IPs and sent back to the client.
Is there a way to keep the names as names, so that both client (using external real-world DNS entries) and server (using local hosts file) can both resolve to the proper IP addresses?
    I'm starting server, as follows:
    java -Djava.rmi.server.codebase=http://myhost.com/rmi/ -Djava.security.policy=/policypath/policy -Djava.rmi.server.hostname=myhost.com mypkg.myclass
The client connects and gets this message (from a connection exception):
    java.rmi.ConnectException: Connection refused to host: 192.168.1.5;

Server is running behind a firewall, which runs such
that any machine behind the firewall cannot use the
external IP to get back to itself.I dont really understand this statement.. Machines behind the firewall referring to the external ip would be going to the gateway, not themselves.. Or do you have an internal AND external ip on the machines behind the firewall? Or are we referring to the gateway machine as an internal machine as well as external?
    That is:
    - outside IP = 192.171.20.5 (port forwards 1099 to
    192.168.1.5:1099)
    - inside IP = 192.168.1.5 (rmi server listens on
1099)looks good, what kinda OS/firewall? If we're talking linux/ipchains (or iptables) with ip masquerading, I may be of some use to you...
from the machine inside (192.168.1.5), it is
IMPOSSIBLE to create a socket to [outside
ip](192.171.20.5), port 1099, and expect it to get
back to the machine inside--the firewall prohibits
this.If you're on the internal network, why can't you just go for the internal ip addr? If I'm understanding correctly, you want internal dns requests for myhost.com to resolve to 192.168.1.5, and external dns requests to resolve to 192.171.20.5? That should't be a problem...
I -can- use name-based lookups, such that I can edit
the hosts file on the inside box to route (myhost.com
to 192.168.1.5). So, if everyone's DNS resolves
    myhost.com -> 192.171.20.5, then clients anywhere can
go to myhost.com:1099 and will be redirected to my
internal machine (192.168.1.5:1099).the hosts file has nothing to do with routing, it's simply a dns-type thing... If your dns is giving external users a 192.168 address as the ip for myhost.com, they will never get to it. 192.168 is not routable on the internet, i think most inet routes will drop packets from 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x.
Is there a way to keep the names as names, so that
both client (using external real-world DNS entries)
and server (using local hosts file) can both resolve
to the proper IP addresses? As long as your dns is working correctly, java doesn't care if you use ips or host names.. Hostnames are preferable, so when you change your network around, you wont affect your rmi server.
    I'm starting server, as follows:
    java -Djava.rmi.server.codebase=http://myhost.com/rmi/
    -Djava.security.policy=/policypath/policy
    -Djava.rmi.server.hostname=myhost.com mypkg.myclass
The client connects and gets this message (from a
    connection exception):
    java.rmi.ConnectException: Connection refused to host:
192.168.1.5;Is your server compiled with the 192.171 ip? That's not gonna work, you have to use the same IP the server is running on. I'm still not clear on your network layout, is 192.171.20.5 and 192.168.1.5 the 2 gateway ip's, or is 192.168.1.5 a physically different machine? I'd be willing to bet that your server is compiled with the external address, and if that's not the same machine, then there's no chance of that working....
There's more than port forwarding going on.. IIRC, java rmi keeps track of its own ip's.. A client request to an external ip will not connect to a server running on the internal ip, even if you forward the port, rmi itself doesn't recognize the internal as the ip it's trying to get to (even if it is true), so it bombs out.. This can happen if you run the rmi server on a gateway, and compile the server with the external ip, and try to connect to the internal ip.. If you want external machines to connect, you MUST run the server on an external ip.
Give a little more info, we'll getcha running... I'm also assuming you have full control of your network (ie, firewall/dns)

just got Prosoft drive genius 3 software, and it's telling me that the external hard drive that i am using for my time machine back up drive needs to be defragmented.  is it wise to do this or should i not??

Let's hope a couple things: that you have bootable clones of your drives also; that the backup drive for TimeMachine has over 3x capacity of the data you plan and are storing. I would also switch TM backup drives so you have a 2nd.
Fragmented free space affecting performance happens when the drive is too full which may mean there isn't enough free space for a full backup set.
1.5TB for backing up 500GB, while WD Green 3TB is $140 and WD Black 1.5TB is, about the same price.
I'd be worried about the integrity and directory, and whether you can afford to lose that drive. Defragging is also a very slow operation. the ideal: to just clone a drive, or start over with another drive and wait. cloning TM volumes has not been done or has it? SuperDuper hoped to but I don't think they or Bombich's CCC made it there.
Trouble with highly fragged is when free space gets to 20% normally, 1/3 or so though for TM volumes, and finding where and a chunk of space for the file being written. Does TM use large spare image files of like 2GB?

    Hello,
    Configuration: Windows Embedded 8 64-bit.
I'm using the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security COM API. The program uses the INetFwRules interface. Basically, I'm using the following code (Form the code sample available here : http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd339604%28v=vs.85%29.aspx.)
I get the error when performing "hr = pFwRules->Add(pFwRule);".
We can also encounter the problem when removing a rule (using pFwRules->Remove(ruleName);)
    HRESULT hrComInit = S_OK;
    HRESULT hr = S_OK;

This works pretty well but, sometimes, at system startup, adding a rule ends up with the error 0x8007000e (E_OUTOFMEMORY) ! At startup, the system is always loaded cause several applications starts at the same time. But nothing abnormal. This is quite a random
    issue.
According MSDN documentation, this error indicates that the system "failed to allocate the necessary memory".
I'm not convinced that we ran out of memory.
Has someone experienced such an issue? How to avoid this?
    Thank you in advance.

  • Toshiba HD worked fine with 2008 MBPro, but when I try to use with new MBAir, it says "read only" - how can I fix?

I have a Toshiba external HD that I used with my old 2008 MBPro with no issues. I just got a new MBAir, and when I try to use the same Toshiba HD it will not allow me to write to the drive. The drive mounts and I can open files from it, but when I look at the info under Sharing & Permissions it says "You can only read." I'm not able to Verify it in Disk Utility either, as when I open it there all the Verify buttons are greyed out.
I also noticed the drive format says Windows NTSF, which I don't understand since I was using it with a Mac before and have never used it with a PC. Do I have to reformat it to write to it from my MBAir? I have files on there that I don't want to lose, and the only PC I have available to me is at work.

Ok when you refer to "memory" that is the Random Access Memory which is temporary memory the processor (worker) uses to store stuff while it's using it. Power goes off whats in the memory is gone.
Your storage drive is where data is pernamnetly stored if the power is on/off.
So what you really mean to say is your storage drive is filled up and you need to make some room.
You have a TimeMachine drive, what this does is makes a image of your internal storage drive as a backup method, it also allows some "back in time" restoration of your previous deleted files depending how much space is on that drive. The more space, the less data you have, the more days you can go back in time to retrieve something.
Unfortunatly the TimeMachine drive is not a extra space storage drive, it automatically rotates what appears on your internal storage drive. So if you delete something from the internal drive, it eventually gets deleted from the TimeMachine drive.
So you need to make some more room on your internal drive, this is rather easy, all you need is ANOTHER external drive and connect it to the Mac. Give it a name like ExtraStorage#1 and thenyou will have to decide which of your User files you really don't need on the internal drive.
For instance the best choice would be to move some movies out of your Movies folder to another MoviesExtra folder on the ExtraStorage#1 drive.
Movies take a LOT of drive space and you can always copy them on or off, or watch them from the ExtraStorage#1 drive as well. But if your going to do this a lot, you should consider getting a Firewire 800/400, USB 3,2,1 combination drive as Firewire 800 is fastest and decently priced (Thunderbolt is very high priced and overkill at this time)
The other things like Documents are quite small, Pictures can take a lot of space if you have a lot, but if you need them on the internal drive then that's better. Music one tends to use a lot or manage playlists and such, but perhaps some music you may which to move off or "prune", I suggest always burning data DVD's of music especially for extra backups.
Once you have freed some room on the internal drive, this liitle neat program will show you what is taking the largest amount of space on your internal drive.
    http://grandperspectiv.sourceforge.net/
After a scan, right click on the big squares to "revel in Finder" to show you what's taking the largest amount of space, be warned it also opens up hidden system files and folders, which you won't be able to move. So concentrate on what's inthe Users folder.
Likely if you have a lot of Movies this is the biggest culprit on most standard internal hard drives. Also if you have something in iTunes that's auto-downloading something like PodCasts and not deleting the older ones and you forget. So go there and fix things and that can free up drive space.
If you bought a small SSD with your new Mac, then the price of that SSD has come back to haunt you with low storage space, you will have to think carefully what you can live without on the internal drive.
Once you have slimmed things down, TimeMachine will update to reflect your slimmer internal drive. What this means is there is only one copy of your data on the ExtraStorage#1 drive.
You need to maintain two copies of your data at all times on seperate hardware, so now you need ANOTHER storage drive (ExtraStorage#2) to copy everythinng of ExtraStorage#1, or else if you drop or have a mechanical problem with ES#1 all that data will be gone!
