External record player connected to audio in microphone jack

I have a hp Pavilion dv6-6135dx laptop. I have my record player connected to a phono preamplifier, which is then connected to my laptop through the audio in microphone jack. The preamp is new, has a new battery, and the rca cables i am using are all new. When i hooked up the record player earlier today it worked fine and I was getting sound out of my computer.(which is what i am trying to do, play my record player through my computer). About an hour or two later I am getting no sound from the record player through my computer. I did mess with the beats audio settings but that is it. I have been tampering and playing with the sound setting from the control panel and still I am getting no sound. I even restored my computer and enabled the mic jack and I still am getting no sound. I am really frustrated and I dont know what to do, but I am for certain that it is a computer issue and not something else.

i,
Mic in is not a line in. Line in will usually be stereo and about 10Kohm impedance. Normally mic in is mono and about 600-1Kohm impedance therefore lower levels than the line. You can use mic in for line in but you may get lower quality of output specially you may only get mono.
Regards.

  • W520 - No microphone jack

I recently purchased a new W520 laptop and was trying to plug in my headset with built in microphone for using skype.  My old thinkpad T500 had two audio jacks, one for headphones/speakers and one for a microphone, right on the front.  My headset also has 2 3.5 mm jacks.  The new W520 only has a single audio jack with a picture of a headset with microphone above it.  How can I plug my headset in?  Do I need a different type of headset, or is there some kind of joining adapter I can get that will allow me to plug in a my dual jack headset to the laptop?
Will this do what I need or is this only for combining two audio signals of the same type (i.e. 2 input or 2 output, not one input and one output)

Hi calculate, and welcome to the Lenovo Community!
    That won't work :-(. It's just a Y splitter, and only a three-conductor splitter at that.
Check this knowledge base for adapters community members have found:

You could connect a FireWire Blu-Ray drive and use non-Apple player software.

You'll need two things. First is a USB audio input devise such as an iMic. Next, you'll need some type of audio recorder such as Audacity.

  • Connect firewire audio interface and external monitor

I have just bought my MacBook Pro 13 and I will mainly use it for audio recording . I have connect my audio interface through the firewire port. I need to connect an external monitor . The only available ports are thunderbolt and USB . Can I connect a monitor with these available ports ?

    Hi charisio,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you would like to connect an external display to your MacBook Pro, you can use the Thunderbolt port. See these articles for some good information about Thunderbolt:

  • I have a record player hooked up through the audio port.  The input volume is registering high, but there is no output anywhere.  Help?

I have a record player hooked up to a preamp which is hooked up through the audio port. The sound settings are set to have the audio port be "input".  The input volume is registering high with fluxuations in the sound settings, but there is no output anywhere.  Do I need some sort of third party application or widget to hear the record i'm playing through the speakers that are hooked up to my computer?

    keithstopher,
You may want to check into a USB interface, as I believe you have a Mac with the single audio port, which can be used as input OR output.
You may want to check into something like the following, there are may out there, see what fits your needs best.

I think the McAfee suite will do the trick when I pay them a one-time fee of $69 or $179 for a year for unlimited support.
Your call of course but IMO a waste of money. Please read this first:
There are many forms of ‘Malware’ that can affect a computer system, of which ‘a virus’ is but one type, ‘trojans’ another. Using the strict definition of a computer virus, no viruses that can attack OS X have so far been detected 'in the wild', i.e. in anything other than laboratory conditions. The same is not true of other forms of malware, such as Trojans. Whilst it is a fairly safe bet that your Mac has NOT been infected by a virus, it may have another security-related problem, but more likely a technical problem unrelated to any malware threat.
You may find this User Tip on Viruses, Trojan Detection and Removal, as well as general Internet Security and Privacy, useful:

The User Tip (which you are welcome to print out and retain for future reference) seeks to offer guidance on the main security threats and how to avoid them.

  • Is is possible to connect my MacBookPro to an external cd player

I want to connect my MacBook Pro to an external cd player so as to increase the sound
in a larger room.  Is that possible and what kind of cords would I need?

connecting your MacBook to a CD player will not increase the sound level.
The CD player outputs a standard level, called LINE level. The MacBook Pro outputs a standard level, LINE level.
To make the sound louder requires an amplifier, in each case. You have no gain (pun intended) by interspersing the computer.

  • Syncing externally recorded audio and video workflow

I'm looking for advice to sync externally recorded dialogue to video, exporting them, and importing them back into fcp7.
I've done this before, but not on this large scale.  I have many clips and I did record audio with the camera as well.
I know how to sync everything up, I'm mostly looking for the best way to combine the footage and export it without loss of quality.  Also wondering if I can keep the in camera audio AND the externally recorded audio.  So, if at the end of the day, I absolutely need to use one or the other, I can choose which one and hide or delete the other.
    My questions are...
    1. What's the best way for lossless quality re-exporting and importing for this (some fomat that is still editable)?
    2. Is there a way to keep multiple channels of audio (from the camera and the h4n) or do I have to choose before exporting?
    3. Is there a "batch" way to do this?  Does it consist of making multiple sequences?
    Thanks for your help!!!
    J
I shot it on a PMW  EX3 and the audio was recorded on an H4N, if that helps.

    1. Why are you re-exporting? No, that's not what you do. You use the MERGE CLIPS command. This will make a NEW clip with the audio and video files merged. Typically you have a slate to sync to, or timecode is jam sync'd so the camera and audio recorder have the same timecode.
    2. When you merge the clip, all the audio channels will be present.
    3. Sorta. If you get PluralEyes that will automatically sync everything...but will do so by making a sequence with the video and audio.  So a sequence of sync'd audio...not a clip. And if you use the sequence as a source, you need to make sure to use the OVERWRITE WITH SEQUENCE CONTENT mapped to the F keys, otherwise FCP will make those nested clips, and nested clips are not a good thing in this case.

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPhone?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after the iPhone shuts down, then press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds). Ignore the "Slide to power off"

  • How do you connect a LaCie external CD player to a MacPro?

My MacPro internal drive died and I bought a LaCie external CD player. How do you connect it to the computer?

Typically, this is done by connecting it and the computer with a USB cable; some drives require a FireWire connection.

  • HP Pavilion HDX9000 Connect to External DVD Player

Our older HP Pavilion HDX9000 DVD died and we wanted to use an external DVD player to drive the monitor on the HDX9000.   It does not seem possible to do this despite the HDMI and many other ports.  The PC is running Vista.   Any suggestions?

    Hi,
What is your external DVD player ? There are many USB DVD players for under $50 and you can use it as internal DVD player. You can't use DVD player from your home Hi Fi system because no available port on your computer to plug it in.
    Regards.

have not used it ... yet ... no time like today
You need an external microphone interface, 'good' microphones require more than a 1/8th socket can provide. Look for USB microphone preamplifiers on Google.
This is the Blue Icicle, it can be bought for about $40, it is my favorite cheap preamp. XLR balanced input (all good mics use this connection method) and USB out, get 2 if you are planning on stereo, or go to the Blue website for more info.

  • How do I use iMac as monitor for external DVD player (HDMI to Mini DisplayPort)

iMac 27" (late 2009).  Internal DVD is region locked.  I would like to use an external DVD player to watch DVD's from other regions.
I can't use the new Apple SuperDrive because they say it's not compatible with iMac's before 2012. (Is it??)
My iMac doesn't have Thunderbolt.  It has mini displayport.
I have resigned to getting a generic DVD player and plugging it into the screen.
I have found this in Apple support pages...
Can I use the iMac in TDM as a display for my gaming console, DVD player, or other device?
The Mini DisplayPort port on a supported iMac can receive DisplayPort compliant video and audio signals. Converters not made by Apple may provide options to convert other electrical, video, and audio protocols to Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt compliant signals.
What is DisplayPort compliant video and audio signals?  Does HDMI fit into that signal type?
Is it possible to get an HDMI to Mini DisplayPort converter?
Will it work if I get a generic DVD player with HDMI output? (and connect it to the iMac through MiniDisplayPort)

    First try VLC.
    <http://www.videolan.org>
On many Macs, it will play DVDs even if the region codes don't match.
The Apple SuperDrive should work if you use the terminal (Utilities foldsr) command:
    sudo nvram boot-args="mbasd=1"
There are also non-Apple USB or FireWire external DVD (and Blu-ray) drives, such as:
    <http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/optical-drives/superdrives/>
Apple's DVD player may not work with external drives, but you can use VLC or Blu-ray™ Player
    <http://www.macblurayplayer.com>
There is a converter to connect HDMI to the iMac via TDM
    <http://www.kanexlive.com/xd>
but it will run at 720p (1280 x 720) and may have problems with HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) on HDMI from Blu-ray or DVD players.

  • [TV@Master] recorded tv show no audio

I just wanted to watch a show I recorded weeks ago. There was no sound. Is there a way to check if the broadcast station had no audio or if my step up was at fault and is there anyway to restore if it is the latter? All other recordings are ok.

i presume you are using the MSIPVS software, as you don't say
    Quote
    Audio Input:
"Device" will be your soundcard or onboard audio device
"Source" will be the connector your TV card audio output is connected to, this will be "TV" on Mega series, otherwise check!! If you connected the internal lead to AUX on your soundcard or mobo, then set it to "AUX". If you used external lead to connect to Line-In, this will be "Line-in" etc etc.
If you don't set these correctly you may or may not hear audio while watching live TV, and you will hear no audio on recorded TV.
