External Screen Stopping Safari When Clam Shell Closed

I have connected my 2008 unibody Macbook to an external screen. Everything runs fine while the Macbook is open, but when I close the clam shell Safari becomes almost unresponsive and will not open any page.
But as soon as I open the clam shell again everything works fine.
Any thoughts?

I think I'll just crack it open a little bit after I put it in clamshell. Really the only part I'm worried about is the top, in inbetween the top row of keys and where the hinge is. Putting my fingers on that, I notice significant heat, with my CPUs runnning at 140F.
After running for about 15 minutes while fully closed, I opened the computer and felt the bottom of the actual screen: It was pretty hot. That's my biggest fear. Morphing on the bottom, where the lid bows out. It happened to my old 17".

My external speakers stopped working when I downloaded Yosemiti! how can I remedy this?

Dunno what it has to do with Yosemite, but:  press the alt/option key, while clicking on the speaker icon at the right hand top of your screen. This will show you all the sound inputs and outputs for your mac. Ensure that it is set to "Line Out" or "Digital out" (depending on your speaker's capabilities. Hopefully

  • External display and "clam shell" closed lid mode = "Input Not Supported"

I have an Acer AL2016W 20" monitor hooked up to my again Powerbook due to it having a cracked screen. It is working just fine right now, in 1680x1050, when the screen is open. Citing this article,
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131
I should be able to close it and have it working as well. When I do close it then wake it, I just get a "Input Not Supported" message on the monitor. Any help?

I'm still puzzled at why it the screen is activated when the lid is closed and woken with an external USB device
That's rather puzzling as the display should not work if the lid is closed. If you have an external drive you're able to install a clean copy of Mac OS X to and boot from you can see if the issue persist there. If it does then it's most likely a hardware issue and you should contact AppleCare. If it doesn't then it has something to do with either your software installation else some utility you've installed.

  • Macbook Pro: both external screens go off when unplugging power cord

    Hello!
I have my Macbook Pro set up with two external screens one connected thru HDMI and the other with Thunderbolt, I keep the lid always closed. I always have the power cord plugged in but when I for whatever reason unplug the cord both screens go dark and don't seem to "wake up" anymore. When I plug back in the cord I have to open the lid first to make the login window appear but after login my screens are switched. When I close the lid again it goes back to my original set up. The same when I turn on the Macbook and don't close the lid after it right away, the screens are switched until I close it.
    Any idea on this?

As this article points out, there are very stringent requirements for using a MacBook in "closed clamshell" mode. #1 is to have the power adapter plugged in:

  • Adding Bookmark Freezes Lion's Safari, Garbled Screen on Safari When Scrolled

Hi. Has anyone added a bookmark on Facebook and it froze (the only way to unfreeze it is to press command + . many times). Sometimes the screen becomes garbled when I scroll it with the reverse scrolling one (it happened on Facebook). Is this a Facebook issue or Lion's Safari or the reverse scroll gesture? Thank you in advance.
    Gbu.

    It's a Safari issue.
    Quit Safari.
Go to   ~/Library/Cookies. Move the Cookies.plist file to the Trash.
    Launch Safari. Try bookmarking FB.
If that doesn't help, open a Finder window select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left. Then open the Library folder, then the Caches folder, then the com.apple.Safari folder. Move the cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash. Quit then relaunch Safari. Try again.

  • Blue Screen (STOP: 0x00000050) when using multiple Agilent34970A devices with a single GPIB

    Hi,
I am using two test fixtures that contain two Agilent34970A Multimeters and two Sorensen Power Supplies (each test fixture is contaning one Multimeter and one Sorensen Power Supply) that are connected via GPIB cables to a single PCI-GPIB card. Below I have attached two VI's. GPIB_Communication_Experiment_1.vi (Test Fixture 1) and
GPIB_Communication_Experiment_2.vi (Test Fixture 2) are used to run self test on the
Agilent34970A multimeters. GPIB_Communication_Experiment_1.vi is talking to one of the Agilent Multimeters and one of the Sorensen Power Supplies (Address 9 for Agilent Multimeter and Address 2 for Sorensen Power Supply) whereas GPIB_Communication_Experiment_2.vi talks to the second Agilent Multimeter and its Sorensen Power Supply (Address 10 for the Multimeter and Address 3 for the Sorense Power Supply).
The Problem occurs when I try to run these two VI's simultaneously where it generates a "blue screen of death" with a Technical Information : STOP: 0x00000050 (0xF8AC00440, 0x00000000, 0x8041889, 0x00000000).
This Problem only occurs when trying to run the executables that were built from the attached VI's.
I have tried to use VISA CLEAR within the while loop as you can see in the VI however it did not improve things.
I have also uninstalled and re-installed the software for my PCI-GPIB card but that seemed not to work either.
At this point I am confused.  If I try to run only one Test Fixture at a time I have no problem doing the Self Test on the Agilent Multimeter, yet every single time if I try to run the two test fixtures together I am  gettig the blue screen.
Besides the two executable VI's I have also attached the regular VI's
I would really appreciate your help, thanks in advance for your time.

    Hello aps7828:
If I read that correct, you only get the error when you run the executables and not the VIs. Can you take a look at your processor level while one .exe is running. I am wondering if that is the source of the problem.

  • Grey screen on safari when trying to open pdf files

Yesterday I was reading a pdf file in my safari 3.0.4 web browser when safari froze unexpectedly and crashed. When I re-opened safari, I am now no longer able to view pdf files in the browser or at all. It opens up, starts loading and stays at a grey screen. I'm using adobe reader 7.0 and I've never had problems before but this is really frustrating to not be able to open up pdfs anymore!
Also, I downloaded firefox to see if it would work on there and it works to download and view pdfs but I can't seem to view pdf files directly in the firefox browser without downloading them to the desktop. What should I do?

You're welcome Joanne. Glad to hear all is functioning in the PDF realm.
When you get a chance, click on "My Settings" on the right side of the screen. There, you can change your tag to reflect the latest version of your OS. As you are using Safari 3.0.4, it would be either Tiger's 10.4.11 or Leopard's 10.5.1.

  • 20.0.1: File== New Window & New Private Window will not open then Firefox will not stop running when application is closed

Although nothing appears to be happening when clicking on either New Window or New Private Window there seems to be processes started because when I try to close Firefox and reopen, I get an error message saying that Firefox is already running. My only option then is to stop the processes via Task Manager. I have tried (several times) to uninstall and reinstall.

Although advised not to, I finally hit the reset button in the Save Mode Window. This corrected the problem. I suspect a faulty add-on - I try and reject many. I will add them back on at a time as I develop the need. Thanks for you help.

  • External screen rotation broken?

    Hi all,
I've got a unibody macbook (first generation) with the Nvidia Geforce 9400M GPU. When I installed Snow Leopard in the place of Leopard, screen rotation stopped working for me. I have a mini-displayport to dual-link dvi adapter connected to matrox triplehead2go digital edition with two 24" flat panels connected for a screen resolution of 3840x1080.
In Leopard, I set the screen rotation to 90 degrees, and I rotate my two screens and everything is great. In Snow Leopard, no matter what I set the screen rotation to, it never actually rotates the display. According to System Profile, screen rotation is supported:
    NVIDIA GeForce 9400M:
    Chipset Model: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
    Type: GPU
    Bus: PCI
    VRAM (Total): 256 MB
    Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de)
    Device ID: 0x0863
    Revision ID: 0x00b1
    ROM Revision: 3343
    Displays:
    Color LCD:
    Resolution: 1280 x 800
    Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888)
    Main Display: Yes
    Mirror: Off
    Online: Yes
    Built-In: Yes
    Display:
    Resolution: 3840 x 1080 @ 60 Hz
    Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888)
    Mirror: Off
    Online: Yes
    Rotation: Supported
Adapter Type: Mini DisplayPort To Dual-Link DVI Adapter
    Adapter Firmware Version: 1.01
When the screen is set to be rotated, instead of saying Rotation: Supported, it says Rotation: 90, or 270, or whatever it's currently set to.

Lack of official support (from Matrox) doesn't have anything to do with the problem.
I have USB keys, and external hard drives, that aren't officially supported by the manufacturer on OSX, and the drives work just fine because there is no bug in the OSX drivers. Like DVI, USB mass storage works using standards.
If in Snow Leopard, external drives stopped working when the drive size was exactly 3.5798 GB, it wouldn't matter whether or not the manufacturer of the drive supported OSX, there would still be a problem with the driver.
The TripleHead2Go is just a monitor, and DVI doesn't support rotation, it's something that's built into the Apple/Nvidia drivers.
In any case, to prove the point, when I use the TripleHead2Go and set the display size to 1920x1080, rotation works just fine. When I use the TripleHead2Go and set the display size to 3840x1080, rotation doesn't work at all.
The driver no longer handles rotation at 3840x1080, which it used to in Leopard. If I had $55,000 just to prove a point, I'd buy the Barco LX5 Projector, which supports 3840x1080 natively.
In any case, the point I'm trying to make is that the device works fine in Snow Leopard, OSX just sees it as an attached monitor. The problem is with the driver not handling 3840x1080 as a display resolution when rotated to portrait. It works just fine in landscape.

  • External screen problems with macbook pro

    Hi Guys,
I have recently connected my macbook pro to an external screen via HDMI and am having a weird issue. When the MB is open, it perfectly displays on the external screen. But when I shut the MB, it displays the picture on the external screen for about 5 seconds, then turns off, then turns on again and continues this until I open the MB again.
WHat is going on? Am i missing something?
    thanks guys in advance

Something that's running on your machine (or something that's connected to it) is preventing it from sleeping when you close its built-in display. It should sleep and stay asleep as soon as that display is closed, unless you are running it in clamshell mode:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131
Does the computer sleep properly when you close its display if the external monitor is not connected to it? Does the monitor have a USB cable that connects to the computer, in addition to its video cable?

  • External Mouse and Keyboard Stop Working When X220 is Docked and Screen is Closed

I have an X220 with a docking station, external monitor and external keyboard/mouse.  When I start the laptop from a cold boot and it's docked, my external mouse and keyboard work fine with the screen open or closed.
If I undock and redock with the screen closed, the external keyboard doesn't work and the mouse cursor moves, but the mouse buttons don't do anything.  If I open the screen, then the keyboard and mouse work fine.
I've swapped the keyboard and mouse and still have the same problem, so it's not the kb/mouse.  This is a brand new X220 and the issue has been occurring since it was purchased.
    Any thoughts?

    hey mhambalek,
hard to say what's going on, though i would recommend heading to http://support.lenovo.com , do a full update of your unit.
also, if the external keyboard & mouse & monitotor is connected to your unit without the docking station, does the same thing happen?

  • I have Iphone 4s that is on warranty but its screen has stopped working when i peek in with a external light it shows iphone disabled. and can not restore from i tunes as well. i am in pakistan and phone was bought from Canada. how can i get assistance?

hello can apple help me out.i am from Pakistan, i received iphone 4s as a gift, it was purchased in canada last march 2012. unfortunately its screen stopped working and inside screen when i try to look with external light. there was message "iphone disabled for 60 minutes" i tried restore but could not it downloads update but does not do anything i am heck upset its really something means to me alot. I tried to find out warranty claiming process but here in pakistan it has not been officially launched. Why so ? in a country where 50% people are using iphone and apple is not there? i was really shoked. well i really need help.please guide me how can i get it replaced or anything that can be claimed in warranty.it is still on warranty. But i am in pakistan where i can not find any istore where they deal with warranty. Please guide me i have studied alot and have read stories about people having same experience and apple helped them alot. I am amazed that i been giving marketing presentations on a brand which is not in my country but heared much "good" about you. and was having great experience of your device. Please dont make it true what i have heared about you.
    Regards.

Try restoring the iPhone to factory settings. If you are having difficult restoring, put the iPhone into Recovery Mode and see if that then works:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If not, or if a restore to factory settings does not fix the problem, then your iPhone may have a hardware problem. You can only get the iPhone serviced by Apple in Canada, so you will have to take the iPhone there or send it to someone you know in Canada who can get the iPhone serviced and send it back to you. The only option for getting service in Pakistan would be to pay some unauthorized repair shop to attempt a repair, after which Apple will no longer provide any service even in Canada.
    Regards.
