External Sound Device MIDI Controller Garadge Band

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro, with the included Garage Band. I successfully attached an M-Audio Axiom 49 to it, and it has worked very well. Now the problem; I am trying to attach a Roland JV-2080 synth module to my Axiom 49 using a standard MIDI cable, then run the Axiom into Garage Band through the USB MIDI interface. I can't get any sound out of the combination, and I was hoping someone could help me out.

AppleCart12,
Thanks for the reply!
I too can't get the control surface buttons to work. I'm not giving up though. Here's what I found thus far.
1. There is free software from M-Audio, called Enigma (http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Enigma-main.html) that allows you to edit the presets on the Axiom series. The only problem is that the Axiom can't send the specific sysex messages requires by GarageBand.
2. There's a free tool called GarageRemote (http://www.muratnkonar.com/otherstuff/garageremote/) that can work as an interpreter to translate other MIDI messages into the the specific messages that GarageBand needs. Unfortunately, it uses hex expressions and I haven't quite figured it out.
Bottom line? Out-of-the-box the buttons don't work and you can't remap them natively to what GarageBand needs. My best bet is that I can figure out the hex codes necessary for a work around.

  • Issues with External Sound Devices & others - 13" Late 2011

    Good day community,
Out of curiosity, I run Diablo 3 on OS X and its been unplayable since ROS expansion, massive fps drops and crashes, Blizzard claims Apple stopped improving hd3000 drivers on 10.8.3, is this true? Also when I run the game through windows via bootcamp it performs better and doesn't not crash, is this related to hd3000 driver support still being improved in windows?
Other issues I'm experiencing, facetime most of the time fails if I try to pickup a call from the macbook, sometimes it notifies me of the incoming call (iphone 5s) sometimes it doesn't. Bluetooth doesn't work, not even with apple devices, I can't pair any of them. External sound devices such as m-audio fast track pro, native instruments audio 8 dj, allen & heath xone 4d, they all have latency issues and sound clips and pops, even with the onboard sound I experience this if I open a couple graphic editing software while playing itunes. Checked sample rate in audio/midi setup, drivers, firmware, everything seems up to date, I'm not using a USB hub, I updated to Yosemite from Mavericks, which was a terrible upgrade from Mountain Lion and it completely lagged the computer, so when I upgraded to Yosemite I ran disk utility from boot and apparently repaired the hard drive successfully. Performance is better but none of the above issues were solved.
So I'm thinking about formatting from scratch but wanted to drop a line here and see if others have any of these issues and/or some tips.
    Thank you for your time.

    Hi Lyndon4321,
I know that can be frustrating when using an external display, but take a look at the article below to continue troubleshooting. I would take a look at Reset the system and work you way down.

  • External sound device

Ive got traktor dj studio for my mac and windows, but I would like to conect my mixer to my MBP, but I need 2 audio outputs, will the "iMic" work in this case(conecting 1 cable to my MB output and the other one to the iMic output)? or I need a external sound device with 2 outputs? in this case, does anyone know any cheap sound devices?
    thanks alot.
MacBook Pro 2.0 GHZ Intel Core Duo, 2 GB RAM 80 GB hard drive, Ipod nano 2 GB   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

But the spliter will sendme both songs in the 2 cables at same time right?
I need to send each song to a diferent cable/output, I use 2 sound cards at my windows desktop pc, the one that came with my pc and a sound blaster live so the "virtual DJ software" sendme 1 song to the sound blaster and the other one to my other sound card, so both sound cards are conected to my mixer to each chanel, but dont know If the "iMic" its going to work that way using the output from the iMic and the other one from my MBP.....
Or other cheap external sound card, that provide me 2 outputs...
    thanks for the help

  • External sound device stuttering

I have an imac (2011) i believe. I own an an external usb sound device, specifically a lexicon alpha. It has been working fine but recently it started to stutter when i try to playback. My internal sound is fine and I tried the lexicon alpha on a pc and it worked fine. Do I have a corrupt file or something?

usb sound devices are usb audio cards and audio cards require drivers
and if the device have a poorly written osx driver then that would happen
I would look into what audio chip lexicon use and check if I could use a driver
from another usb sound card using the same audio chip

  • Looking for External Sound Device for iBook G4

Does anyone know of an external audio device similar to Creative Technology's Sound Blaster Extigy that will work with my iBook G4? I would like to record CDs played through an external CD player that has audio compression. Unfortunately the iBook lacks audio inputs. Thanks.
    Don Squires

Perhaps this is what you're looking for:
    http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/SonicaTheater-main.html
I had an Extigy with my previous notebook (presario 1500) and absolutely loved the sound I got through my creative 5.1 speakers, at least when my computer was working properly
I see the sonic theatre as the mac equivalent, although it doesn't appear to have a remote, oh well. I have no idea how much of the software will work on a mac, but it can't be too hard to find some good audio software.

  • Problem connecting external sound device to the line

When I connect my Roland Sound Canvas (external MIDI module connected to the Game/MIDI port) to the line in on the sound card (Audigy2 ZS) but I don't get any sound from the speakers when playing a MIDI file or when recording. When I use sound recorder I can only hear what was recorded during playback. What do I have to do to hear the MIDI audio playing while I'm recording it's
I didn't have a problem doing this with a SoundBlaster Li've Value card.

Any standard mini-stereo jack, like on the end of headphones, should go in all the way. That port is meant for use with headphones, and powered speakers that have the same connector. It is not designed for a special short connector. If your mini-stereo to RCA adapter's plug is the same length as the plug on iPod earbuds, it needs to be inserted all the way.
As a test of the iMac's port, try using a standard set of headphones (or iPod-style earbuds) to see if you get proper sound.

  • Using External Sound Modules (Synths) in Logic Express?

    Hi all,
I don't have Logic Express yet. I want to know if what I want to do is possible before I purchase. It may sound trivial, but I'm very new to the whole DAW environment. Apparently Garageband can't support my external sound modules so I'm hoping Logic Express will.
To help, please see my hardware midi setup diagram here:
    http://www.greddin.com/images/My-Midi-Setup.jpg
Will I be able to add tracks that will play the external sound devices like the Wavestation and JD-990? Can you change the sounds through Logic? To what extent can I use my external sound modules?
    Thanks all,
    -Greg

    Hi,
1st: Yes, Logic Express has "external MIDI" tracks that function similar to the "software instrument" tracks but trigger external instruments.
2nd: But: To setup these tracks, especially with more than one device, needs some experience with MIDI, the channels, patch selection via MIDI etc. The real downside is you have to find out which commands you need to "tell" your devices to change sounds and these things. Since there is no standard command for this, you'll have to look it up in your devices manual and use the MSB/LSB Values- which you have to enter manually. However, once you found it out, you can save these things as templates and use them in the future. So yes, it is very possible, but expect some learning curve.
3rd: You can use your sound modules to their full extent. Logic features a mighty MIDI environment setup once you learned how to use it.

  • USB MIDI CONTROLLER- LOGIC PRO 7- I CAN SEE THE LIGHTS BUT NO SOUND OUT?

I just got logic pro 7.2 so i am very green, garage band automatically recognizes the usb midi controller and i can hear it,
in logic it recognizes it i can see the lights for sound levels but no sound is coming out, ive been trying to figure this out.

Heck, if loneliness is your thing... more power to ya!
now why cant i hear the midi
MIDI doesn't make a sound. You either need to assign a software instument to it or use an external device, all depending on the track you chose. If you, perhaps elaborate a little more as to what you did (typing with your caps lock released), there's a better chance of getting your problem solved. If you're hearing your recorded guitar, then there's a chance you selected the wrong type of track to record to as far as MIDI tracks go (there is a difference in Logic).

  • I am recording with Logic Pro X, using my Yamaha XS8 keyboard as a Midi controller. I also have a Thunderbolt Display. Every time I play and release a note on the keyboard, the Thunderbolt Display speaker emits a doink sound. How do I get it to stop?

I am recording with Logic Pro X, using my Yamaha XS8 keyboard as a Midi controller. I also have a Thunderbolt Display. Every time I play and release a note on the keyboard, the Thunderbolt Display speaker emits a doink sound. What is causing it and how do I get it to stop? My sound is running through the Saffire Pro 40 Interface (Focusrite) into external speakers with powered amps.
Also, When I record I am hearing little pops in the system. I have checked all of my meters and they are not clipping. What is causing it and how do I get it to stop?

    Pancenter,
Thanks for the response, but I do not have a midi interface. I am using a midi to usb connector cable, thus bypassing the need for a Midi interface.
The Mac reads the USB cable as a midi device, but not the keyboard that I am trying to use as a controller. I have tried it with my korg sp 300 and with my Nord Electro 2.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks,

    Tristan...
This is what you have, correct?
    http://www.alesis.com/usbmidicable
    This from Alesis..
"The AudioLink Series USB cable receives and outputs MIDI signal thanks to its internal interface. The USB-MIDI Cable connects plug-and-play to your Mac or PC for an all-in-one USB-MIDI solution."
Notice, -internal interface-. What you have is a simple USB MIDI Interface. Most MIDI interfaces are USB.
My point is (was), MIDI OUT of the Korg goes to the connector marked MIDI IN on the Alesis, those new to MIDI often get this wrong.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 does not recognize USB PnP Sound device connected  to iMac OSX even when activated in Audio MIDI setup. The iMac(i-7 processor,16 GB)   is working with this USB device without any problem

Premiere Pro CS6 does not recognize the USB PnP Sound device in order to produce a commentary sound track. The USB device has been activated on the iMac OSX by using the Audio-MIDI-setup and is working correctly with the iMac. When opening > presets >audio hardware I can only select between >standard >out  integrated > digital input integrated >microphone integrated. USB PnP is not indicated at this place.
With the built-in microphone of the iMac I can produce the commentary sound track, but I would prefer a stand alone version for better quality.
Your help is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Annemarie!

I'm using a Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 (which has a microphone on the side). I have several other devices plugged into separate USB slots: a keyboard, a mouse, my iPhone, and a Roland keyboard midi controller.
I've considered that maybe the webcam/mic combo is the culprit. If USB doesn't work at a constant speed, that could very well be causing the issue! The sound begins to lag badly sometimes when it's working properly, so that there's a multisecond delay between speaking and hearing my voice repeated back over the mic which is another sign that something is wrong. I've also caught it making a strange electronic sound during its "hang" time once it stops taking sound input correctly.
Maybe I should try to use line-in and forgo USB altogether then. I think I'd need a preamp and some sort of converter for that since the Mac Mini lacks a powered mic jack. I'm only a newbie musician so I've never set up such a system but it might be a better solution in the long run.
I'll check to see if it hangs before or after my computer enters suspend mode, that's a good suggestion too. Thank you for your help!

  • Can't Disable Midi Controller. Device In Use?

Im trying to use adobe audition 3.0.1 as an audio editor in ableton. The program launches fine but this error keeps showing up. I tried to just disable all my midi controllers but it doesnt seem like its possible. In SMPTE/MTC theres not an option to just select none. Also this is still a pain even if I just want to go in and make a quick edit to something and another daw is open. I have a bcf 2000 and the faders go bonkers when its re enabled. If theres no way to disable the midi controllers and surfaces is there a way to just clear the whole user profile?

Audition might be reacting to your external sound card being used by the other program.  ASIO drivers for sound cards allow access by only one device at a time...
.... If Audition wasn't the first audio program opened then it will not be able to access the sound card.
Actually, that's not true at all as a rule. ASIO channels can be distributed amongst different software apps - it's physical devices that you can only run one of. I say 'as a rule', because there are apparently one or two drivers around that won't distribute ASIO channels properly, but these are mercifully rare.
And this doesn't apply to MIDI at all - that's an entirely different issue, albeit one that shares some of the same characteristics. I believe that there are a few MIDI-sharing apps around (look up MIDI-OX, MIDI-YOKE and things like that), and it's probably a bizarre combination of things like this that will solve your problem - if that's what it actually is. I'm only saying that because I have no idea what might actually be causing this at all, I'm sorry to say. These sorts of problems are usually best solved by somebody who actually knows about these particular interactions sitting down in front of the machine and actually sorting them out. They are not that conducive to remote troubleshooting at all unless somebody who has actually had that self-same set of symptoms, and solved them, comes along.
And on this forum, I'm afraid that's not very likely these days.

  • TS3048 My early 2009 Mac Pro does not connect via bluetooth to my sound bar or bluetooth mini speakers. Both my wireless keyboard and mouse have no problems connecting. What do I need to do to connect to external bluetooth devices?

My early 2009 Mac Pro does not connect via bluetooth to my sound bar or bluetooth mini speakers. Both my wireless keyboard and mouse have no problems connecting. What do I need to do to connect to external bluetooth devices?

I would always have a wired keyboard and mouse on hand (need not be expensive ... any cheap wired devices will work).  "Emergency recovery" procedures can activate features in random order, so the opportunity to select a recovery partition may pass before the wireless devices are recognized.
That will let you select the "turn on Bluetooth" icon.

  • How do I make my own sounds and put them on a Midi controller?

I want to be able to make my own sounds and program then into my midi controller.
Is this possible? If so How do I go about doing it?

Hey man, am I right in thinking you want to make your own sounds entirely and then map them so that they can be triggered to play by your midi controller? If so, the method I'm thinking is you're going to have to start coding. The program PureData http://puredata.info/ is a good place to start, it's free and there are a lot of online tutorials if you can be bothered looking, but you'll have to put in the effort of learning how to code it properly. This might be worth it if what you are asking is what I'm thinking you're asking. Otherwise, you'll have to make do with the sounds that Logic Express can create, which isn't exactly a limited set... Hope this helps.
