I have a     Satellite -P205D- S7438.  For some unknown reason, anytime I plug in my head-phones, or external speakers.  I can not hear any sound.  Does anyone have an Idea on how to fix this???  I have even tried updateing Driver's, did not fix the problem.

  • Sound Jack dead on my Mini-Need options

It seems my external sound jack is dead. I have speakers hooked to it and nothing coming out. Swapped the plug to my laptop and music plays.
Yes the volume is turned up because when I unplug it, the internal speaker jumps to life...But that sound quality is just not gonna cut it for listening to my tunes.
This thing is well out of warranty so I don't think taking it into the store or calling is going to do me any good.....Is there such a thing a bluetooth or USB speakers?
    Thanks!
    Mike

The m-audio Transit will give you a USB option for both audio in and out (including digital).

  • External speaker sound jack not working?

Altec Lansing VS2421. Not a bad little 2:1 speaker set up for the money. They work fine on my G5 Quad, but not on the iMac. I get that 'interference noise' when I plug the speaker connector into the sound jack. But no music, nada, niet, zilch, non.
This iMac has been plagued by all sorts of problems recently and this is the most recent one to give me a headache. Does anyone have any ideas, what might be causing it?

    Miriam,
Thank you for the link. Really useful information. However, I'm not certain, but think my problem isn't connected with ground loops. It's more basic than that.
If I mute the internal speaker of the iMac, whilst leaving the External speakers on, there is no sound at all. If I twist the external audio jack around in it's socket on the Mac, I get feedback and what I think is AC hum. But no audio signal. And if I switch the internal speakers on, I get a normal audio signal.

  • 5.1 or 7.1 external sound card

I have a new iMac but it only has a 2.1 optical audio output on the back. I'd like to connect a 5.1 DD external sound card USB 2.0 (maybe even up to 7.1 Dolby Digital) to it to connect to my DD receiver. However, I am also using Windows Vista Ultimate through Boot Camp separately and may add VMWare Fusion later on to run both OSX and Vista side by side so I'd want to have both of them compatible and even before that. I've been looking for cards but haven't found any that are supported by both Apple AND PC. Either that or they are all internal PC cards. Does anyone know of any external cards that are supported by both?

There are two "standard" optical-digital-audio connectors. The original "square"
one is still used in most larger audio/video components. The newer/smaller one,
used mainly in portable gear, is exactly the same size as a mini headphone plug.
The iMac's 'combo' jacks support either analog or digital-optical connections --
depending on which type of plug is inserted.
Radio Shack carries adaptors/cables of both types (usually at outrageously high
prices). For online vendors, try http://monoprice.com Great prices and a good

I thought the only way I could get DD 5.1 out is through a USB adaptor.
That should work, too -- but I don't believe it's necessary.

  • IMac 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, running Lion 10.7.3, won't recognize external speaker jack, any suggestions?

iMac 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, running Lion 10.7.3, won't recognize external speaker jack, any suggestions?  Got a brand new iMac and purchased external speakers for same.  Hooked them into external speaker jack and the computer does not recognize the external speaker jack.  I then plugged them into the external head phone jack and the computer recognized the head phone jack.  How can I get the computer to recognize the speaker jack?

Thanks "a brody," my mistake, I was mistaking the "audio in" jack for a speaker output jack.  I have some Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers with a built in amplifier that I am using and they sound beautiful.  I do have them plugged into the correct jack, but was thinking there was a speaker out put and headphone out put.
Thanks again for correcting me, I feel much better now that I know my brand new iMac isn't defective, lol.

  • Can't get external sound back

iPad 1, under waranty, updated to latest iOS version (4.3.5 (8L1)). Plugged in head phones this morning, worked fine. Unplugged head phones, and the volume control still say head phones are plugged in. Plug in head phones, they work, I can hear stuff normally. Unplug, it still thinks they're plugged in. No external sound.
I've restarted the iPad, the second time holding down the button so the Apple logo blinks off and then reappears.
Toggled the settings parameter for the Side Switch. Normally it's on Lock Rotation, but I've tried both.
How do I get external sound back?
I looked at another discussion that was reffered to, and I don't see a light on inside the phone jack. Sticking a paper clip into the jack didn't help.

I have seen a few of these discussions where the sound doesn't want to come back after using headphones. I don't think I've seen a definitive fix. You can try plugging and unplugging the headphones a few times. Try using Apple earbuds that come with iPods if you have a set. Could be dust or a tiny piece iPod debris in the hole causing the issue. It's really hard to tell.
I wouldn't mess around with it too long if you can't find a fix. It's under warranty - take it to an Apple Store and let them have a look.

  • How to solve having no external sound?

    ---I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING---
I have an iPhone 5. I updated it last night. Today I was using it, received a call it was working fine. Then I noticed my keyboard sound wasn't making a sound. So, I looked into it and it turned out there is zero external sound. If I plug my ear buds in, it works, but nothing without. It's incredibly frustrating. I have been using iPhone for about 2 years now and I have never ran into this. So I have googled all about it and tried everything.
    checking sound
    turning off bluetooth
    turning off wifi
plugging and unplugging ear buds over and over
    restarted the phone
holding lock screen & home screen
    doing a hard restart
going into setting and adjusting the volume (this is comical, because I went to verizon and the guy did this and it worked. 2 minutes after I left the problem was back)
    toggling all the volume settings
    blowing into the earphone jack
Like I said, I did a lot of research and I see this is a reoccurring problem for people.
Can someone please help? My last resort will be to go to the apple store.. But I really do not want to do that.

    Hello brittneybeth,
    thank you for your question!
You'll need to send your iphone into apple or bring it into an apple store, & they'll give you information as to whether or not they can replace &//or fix the device.
    Regards,

  • I have a problem with the external sound of my ipod, when I take the headphones the music keeps playing and the ipod recognizes still have a headset connected. how do I get external sound out?

I have a problem with the external sound of my iPod, when I take the headphones the music keeps playing and the ipod recognizes still have a headset connected. how do I get external sound out?

    - Try insering and removing the headphone plug a dozen times or so.
    - Try cleaning out the headphone jack in the iPod.
    - Resett he iPod. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restoe to factory defaults/new iPod
If yu still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem, likely a bad headphone jack. Yu can make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store to confirm.
If not underwarranty Apple will only exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for:

  • My iPod is playing internal and external sound at the same time when my headphones are connected

Hi, I have an iPod nano, 16 GB, 5th gen, that I've had for almost five years. It has never given me any problems before, but today when I plugged in my headphones the sound played not only inside the headphones but through the iPod's external speaker. When I turn the volume up or down only the external sound goes up or down, the headphones still play music at the same volume. I tried connecting the iPod to other headphones, and inserted and removed the headphone jack from the iPod about 20 times, the only thing I haven't tried is restoring because I don't know if that would make any difference and I would like to avoid restoring if I can. Thank you for your time.

Thank you for the suggestion, but it didn't work.

  • Aftre using headphone ,no more external sound

aftre using headphone ,no more external sound on my i phone 4S. please help !!!

Have you tried blowing in the headphone jack? I already had some dust stuck in there that made the jack believe headphone were still connected.

  • External sound card

    Hi,
I'm looking for an external sound card for my 24" 2.4 GHz iMac either USB or FW. I don't need surround sound, but I do need good Vista driver support for gaming. The drivers for the onboard Realtek sound card produce a lot of cracking noises and pauses with Vista.
Any ideas? (Mind that I don't just want an external interface for the onboard sound card, but an external sound card)
    Thanks.

How do you call a device that splits the earphone and mic contacts

I'd call it an "adapter," but those of the UK persuasion would
prolly call it an "adaptor." Either way, I have no idea where
to get one for (yet another) weird Apple-proprietary connector.
Be aware that the iMac's "line input" isn't sensitive enough
for most microphones. You will probably need a mic preamp if
you want to use the Etymotic's microphone with the iMac.
The Creative XMOD has a "LineIn/MicIn" jack, but (as usual)
Creative's specs tell you next to nothing -- maybe it would
work with the Etymotic's mic output ...maybe NOT.
    good luck,

  • Compatible external sound card needed for mac mini...

I need an external sound card for a mac mini.  does anyone know which ones are compatible?

My experience is with consumer-level devices, not "pro" gear.  If I'm understanding correctly, you want to use the built-in sound output jack on the Mac mini with headphones, to monitor ("preview music"), while you use USB to output sound to a "mixer board."
I used a USB device a while back called PowerWave (from Griffin Tech).  I could output sound to it, and it acted as an amp to power standard "living room" (not self-powered) speakers.  It also had a mini-stereo jack on it, like the one on Mac mini, which could be used with headphones at the same time (I put a self-powered subwoofer on that output).  And it also had sound input.  It was very cool.
I also used a FireWire device called FireWave (also from Griffin Tech).  But that was more of a way to add 5.1 surround sound output to a Mac.
There is a current USB device from Griffin Tech called iMic.
    http://store.griffintechnology.com/desktop/imic (says "out of stock")
    http://www.amazon.com/Griffin-7725-IUAI-iMic-Audio-Interface/dp/B003Y5D776/ref=s r_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1339226388&sr=8-2
It's sort of a cheaper version of that old PowerWave, with a more limited set of features (no amp).  It does provide audio output (and input) from a USB port, and it's relatively inexpensive.  But, I'm not sure if you can send sound output to TWO devices at the same time, using standard system settings (if that's important for what you're doing).
I also found out about this recently

which might be useful for what you are doing...

  • ITunes only through external sound card

    Hi,
I've recently bought a Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56 and am really enjoying it. When i'm not using it for recording, I keep it connected to my speakers as it gives a better output than that of the 3.5mm headphone jack (for an aux in to my speakers).
I was just wondering if there was any way that i could get ONLY iTunes out of the external sound card so that all my sounds from other apps like Mail and Safari etc. would come through my Macbook Pro's speakers? I just don't like it when I get the big air rush sound coming through my speakers when an email is sent using Mail, and then other little bleeps from everything else are quite annoying too.
    Thanks in advance
    mr meister

    Open the "Sound" "System Preference"
Select the "Sound effects" tab. Tell it to play sound effects

  • External Sound Cards for Captivate

can someone suggest a couple of external sound cards with
plug jacks for microphone that work well with captivate?

    Hi samarui,
"Creative Labs" has always built a decent sound card, as does
"M-Audio" and "Yamaha". Some Captivate users have reported
difficulties with USB audio cards, so if that's your pleasure,
trial and error might be the order of the day.
If you are using a PCI slot card for an internal
installation, note that caution should be taken to avoid conflicts
with audio built into the motherboard - though this may not be
necessary (or applicable) since your interest seems to be with
    external, not internal cards...
    In any case, good luck!
