External soundcards with WIN

Hello:
I would like to stay with WIN98SE and use an external soundcard.
Is this possible?
Will there be USB speed issues?
Can I use the SPDIF connection on my computer to connect to the soundcard instead of USB?
Thanks for any help you can provide

  • Logic will not open with out external soundcard after Mavericks upgrade

    Hi
Recently upgraded my Mac to Mavericks and my Logic 9.1.8 (32 Bit) worked fine. I have a Digidesign 002 rack which I was using as an external soundcard. These all worked fine until I updated my Digi drivers. Now Logic will not open unless the Digi is connected, Logic has also been updated but still no joy. Logic freezes when opening on 'checking midi drivers...'
Is there a preference I need to change or do I have to remain connected to my Digi forever?! lol
    Thanks
    Candy

    Remove the Digidesign Midi drivers.....
Logic Pro 9 crashing at "Check MIDI Drivers."
As you will see, this sort of problem with Avid/Digi Midi drivers has been around for a long time now.....

  • Remote control's volume doesn't work with external soundcard

I use an external EDIROL FA-101 firewire soundcard connected to my macbook. Ofcourse I listen to music and watch movies with my computer just like we all do. But the problem is, that I can't control volume using apple remote. It only works for the integrated soundcard. It probably isn't hard for it to control volume of the iTunes, instead of the main volume (which doesn't control my external soundcard's volume). It just isn't comfortable at all (and I'm not going to use the integrated soundcard, because of what it sounds like).

I'm not sure there's anything we can do for you here. You may be able to do something with an additional remote, like a bluetooth phone and Salling Clicker, to execute AppleScripts to control the volume control on your card.

  • Booting Win XP (external drive) with Mac Mini 2009

    Hello,
I have an external drive loaded with Win XP (from my broken laptop) and I would like to find out if I can boot and use the Win XP with my Mac mini 2009.
    Many thanks.

It is not possible to boot any Windows OS from an external drive. MS in
their infinite wisdom has decided that Windows can only be booted
    from an internal hard drive.

  • External display no longer being recognized ideapad u310 touch with Win 8.1

Several weeks ago I was able to attach a external monitor with a HDMI to DVI cable and it has been running without any problems until today when I turned on the laptop and nothing came up on the external display. Control panel only shows one display and will not detect the second display. Restarting has not help. No new programs have been added and nothing has been moved. I tried attaching a different external monitor and once again it could not be detected. Where do I go from here?

Anyone have any help or suggestions? Thanks

  • Volume keys in combination with external soundcard; How?

    Hi folks,
I recently bought a new MBP alongside a Focusrite Saffire 6 USB external soundcard, and an Apple wireless keyboard. As of now, if i want to adjust the volume of the music I'm playing I have to turn the knob on my Focusrite Soundcard, since using the volume controls on my keyboard show up as disabled; when I press them the volume logo shows up on my screen, but it denies me to alter the volume.
What's the way to go to enable this? I already checked the Audio & Midi preferences, to no avail.

    Hi,
What you experiencing is normall behavior, once the saffire is selected as your sound card it takes over control. If you want to control volume using you keyboard you would need to change your sound prefernces to built in.

  • Just bought a dell pc with windows 8. on my old pc (vista) i would right click a movie (in itunes format) and say open with itunes and it would play. Now it won't open in itunes and it just CRASHES. HELP PLEASE. is there a glitch with win 8???

okay not sure how this works so here i go again.
Okay i bought a dell pc with windows 8 (big mistake) i downloaded itunes and from my external hard drive, right clicked a movie file (in ipad format, because this worked in vista on my old laptop) and it will not go into itunes. And itunes keeps crashing. Is there a glitch with win 8 and itunes ? I never had this prob with vista. I would right click a file and say open with itunes and poof it goes in the library. Please help before i throw this thing out the window! OH newest itunes is what i have installed.

Take a look at this MBP, a refurbished unit.  Don't let the late 2011 release date put you off.  For about  $500 less than an equivalent 'new' one with similar specifications you get a quad core CPU and excellent graphics.  As Steve359 mentioned, this can be upgraded if the need arises and has the same warranty as a 'new' one
I would not be surprised that these may actually be 'new' MBPs due to the length of time that they have been replaced by the current generation.  I purchased a 17" model about 5 weeks ago, and a serial number check suggests that it is 9 weeks old.

  • I have a laptop running Win 7 Pro, can I setup a dualboot with Win XP

My laptop is running Win 7 Pro (32-bit) but I have a Iomega Zip 100 drive which has not been supported since Win XP. I have numerous discs with content I would like to access and put onto CD. Can I set up a dualboot system with Win 7 and Win XP without
    affecting my current data?

The first thing you need to do is verify that there are Windows XP chipset and device drivers for your laptop. If there are none then XP may not function properly, no mouse, keyboard, video, USB ports may no work and more.
If there are drivers then read the following:
Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and XP

As always, with a major undertaking such as this create an image backup of your entire hard drive (to an external USB drive) first.

  • Thinkpad Yoga - Clean install with Win 8.1 disc and embedded product key

    Hello everyone,
I purchased a Thinkpad Yoga that comes along with Win 8.1 and embedded product key.
Will it be possible to plug-in an external drive and install Win 8.1 from a Win 8.1-disc? BUT I don’t want to use the key that comes with the disc, but the key embedded in the bios.
This is my girlfriends Windows 8.1 disc and license. Nevertheless I could use it for the clean install.
But I'm not sure, if the original key from my Yoga will work then.
    Thanks
    Hutson

I guy on Youtube made a rough tutorial.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lI8AnNBIlLQ
    Englisch subtitles available
In the comments he suggests, to download the Iso with anouther win-8.1-key - no matter which one - and to install the system clean. In his opinion the system will get the key from the hardware. He is writing, that there is just a universal iso. So it's no problem to download an iso with another key, even if your system is a Home-Edition and you download it with a Pro-Key.
    I will try this.

  • I'm having trouble upgrading to ITunes v12.0.1 with Win 7. Download progress bar stalls and eventually cancels itself. Have tried Tools -- Download Only, but same result. Have been using iTunes for 3  years without difficulty

I'm having trouble upgrading to ITunes v12.0.1 with
Win 7. Download progress bar stalls and eventually cancels itself. Have tried
Tools --> Download Only, but same result. Have been using iTunes for 3+
years without difficulty; I have lots of ram, hard drive and speed.
    Thanks for your input

One step listed in the link to "helpful" info, was (when Iooked 30 seconds ago), to search for and download the newest version of iTunes. I'm running iTunes on Win 7 machine and was prompted to update today, 10.22.2014, and did so without a problem. Having said that, however, it looks as though the latest iTunes (12.0.1.26) is finally doing what the last version refused to do, which is to actually fully populate all my playlists on my 6, but there is a hitch: 12.0.1.26 will NOT allow you to show the sidebar unless you click on "playlists," that is, you cannot keep it open all the time.
And, when plugging the 6 into the computer, the phone icon shows up but clicking on it does nada. What does work, for some strange reason, is clicking on the tiny icon (just under the "Store" menu link at top screen) which looks much like a tiny barrel, someone's idea of external drives, I suppose. The phone then comes up, with the list of stuff on the phone just under it where the sidebar used to be. Sync is now restricted to the lower right of the screen.
Apparently, you will also need to update your iPhone's software as well; some friends with the 4 and 4s, however, had troubles with them after upgrading. The message from Silicon Valley (I can see Apple from my backyard, ha ha) is apparently, "keep upgrading," folks, get rid of those old phones.

  • Logic 7 - External Soundcard Options

    Hi,
Need some help with choosing a new external soundcard.
Currently running a Mac Book 2.6Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM with an M Audio Firewire Solo Audio Interface.
Using a lot of DSPs in logic and its eating up my power. Used Freezing and its still not great.
Can someone suggest a Soundcard at £200 - £300 price tag that is portable and has enough power to deal with all my needs?
Has anyone used the Audio DJ 8 from Native Instruments with ? I am thinking of getting Traktor Scratch Pro and wanted to know if this device would cover my Logic needs too.
    Thanks,
    M

An audio interface will not solve your issue. Your issue is with not enough CPU processing power.
Freeze some tracks, or better yet, export the plug in intensive tracks to audio, and then remove the excess plug-ins. Of course, for this you have to commit to the sound you're rendering.
Since I have had bad experiences with M-Audio audio interfaces I won't say anything more about that there.
    Cheers

  • Noise while using external soundcard

    Hello everyone!
I am a musician and I use a EDIROL FA-66 soundcard with some Alesis M1 Active 620 studio monitors. I used to work on a Windows computer using Cubase but now I bought a 27inch iMac to work with Logic.
My first problem was the firewire connector. I used to use a Firewire 400 cable and, since the iMac only has a Firewire 800 port, I had to buy a new cable.
After installing everything, I notice a buzz/hum on the speakers while connected to the iMac. Looks like some problem with ground/power, because when I cause the screen to show some bright colors, you can hear the noise on the speakers.
I am sorry if my explanation is terrible, this is really something difficult to explain and my english isn't perfect.
Will be glad to explain it better if someone has any question.
    Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Oh, I forgot to mention. I moved the iMac to a different room to see if the problem was in the power outlets of my room. Nothing changed. I even connected the iMac to some cheap MGE UPS and nothing.
Also, the soundcard can be powered by the firewire cable or by an external AC adaptor. I tried both ways and the problem is still there.

It sounds as though you have a ground loop going. This is not easy to troubleshoot in an email!
Make sure you are using good quality shielded cables to connect the audio and use balanced connections where possible.
To learn more about your problem, try this.....
    http://www.epanorama.net/documents/groundloop/
Often, a ground lift switch can solve the problem and a passive or active hum eliminator is better.
I use Ebtech hum eliminators which are fairly versatile and effective for the price.....

I've been spending lots of hours searching for some kind of a external soundcard that is compatible with mac.

Im not sure what you call it, but i think its "analog" sound, atleast i need to be able to connect 3 cables (front, surround, base)
I would really appreciate help with this problem!

  • EXTERNAL SOUNDCARD: Unable to connect to M-Audio Audiophile USB. Is it on?

    Hello,
I am brand new to Mac's, this is my first ever one i've had that i'm on right now.
I have my M-Audio Audiopjile USB External Soundcard plugged in, switched on, everything exactly how it was in my PC.
I just downloaded the drivers for it from the website but I keep getting the message in the title of this question on my system preferences > other > m-audio audiophile.
The reason I need my soundcard working is because it is connected to my two studio monitor speakers that I use for music production.
Any help would be hugely appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Alex.

    Hi Dan,
Apologies for the extremely long reply, I don't often check the email associated with this account.
I never did end up resolving my issue. I accepted defeat and got myself a new soundcard. The only thing I could possibly think of is that the audiophile soundcard just isn't compatible with the Mac, I know the website says it is but that definitely wasn't the case for me and it sounds like it's the same for you.
Sorry I couldn't give you any better help dude. If it helps I replaced mine with a Tascam US-200, that definitely does work!
    Alex
