External speaker not recognized!

I wanted to connect external speakers because the speakers on my monitor weren't doing it for me, if you know what I mean. I have an HP HD LCD monitor so it's connected with a traditional monitor cable, an HDMI cable, and an audio cable. I've connected these external speakers before and had no trouble at all. All I did last time was unplug the audio cable for the monitor and plug the audio cable in for the speakers (into the OUT jack). It wouldn't play. It just kept coming out of the monitor. So I went into the settings and muted the monitor. Not playing out of the monitor anymore but still not playing out of the speakers. Then I thought it might have something to do with iTunes. I opened Windows Media Player (shudders) and sure enough the few songs in there play beautifully through the external speakers. iTunes help simply says "If you connect external speakers, iTunes plays through them and mutes the computer’s built-in speakers" but I got nothing. Is there a setting I can't find that needs to be changed? I have the latest version of iTunes and all the drivers are up to date for my monitor and computer.

I have the red ones.  Did you follow the detailed picture instructions in the user manual?  Double & triple checked to make sure all connections were done correctly?
Repaired permissions and restarted your computer?

  • Creative Zen stone with speaker not recognized by Vista 32

My creative zen stone with speaker is not recognized by computer. Downloaded starter pack and it worked, but the first time i disconnected it and connected again, the device is not in "my computer". It is listed as working properly under "safely remove hardware". Uninstalled drivers, and connected again, driver was installed and I am told the device is ready to be used, but it is still no where to be seen, and update tools etc. also does not recognize connected device.
    thank you

Try going into "Control Panel->Administrati've tools" and clicking on "Computer Management". Find "disk management" in the left pane and click it. Your Stone should be in the right somewhere. I think you need to right click, then "choose dri've letter and paths" and give it a dri've letter with the "add" button. Let us know if that works.

  • New Toshiba 3tb external drive not recognized at startup WIn 7

My new toshiba 3tb external drive (with wall wart power) is not recognized at start up (Win7). The message I get is that it is a USB storage device but can not be used until it is formatted (I already moved files to it). If I plug it in after start up it's fine and shows up as a toshiba storage device. I've used the 2.0 and 3.0 ports and it is the same problem (it has wall wart power). I have never encountered this problem with any other usb storage device  (an iomega 1tb and a WD 500gb) always plugged in and recognized at start up.
    Thoughts?

  • WD external drive not recognized with 10.7.5 update

I've got a Western Digital external drive that was working just fine an hour ago, then I installed the 10.7.5 update and now my Mac Pro is saying that it's not recognized by the computer and asking if I want to initialize it. I went to Disk Utility and the drive itself shows up but no disc image. It's connected via a RocketU USB 3.0 dual hub, which has also worked fine and aparently still is (it's recognized in my system report). I updated my drivers for the USB 3.0 hub anyways but still no disc being recognized.
It's not a complete disaster because this is a backup disc, but I'd love to avoid having to back up all that data again (about a terabyte, which happens to be all my work files and iTunes files - it's a LOT of stuff). I also wanted to post in case this is some kind of issue with this current update, but I digress.
This is what my disc utility currently looks like:
The destination and source can't be the same (as is pictured) when doing a Restore, right? That accomplishes nothing but a blank drive, I'm guessing.
I also have Drive Genius 3 and tried to "scan" the drive several times, all of them producing failure to scan results. I could try a bench test on the drive, but as I've already stated, it was working fine an hour ago. I'm pretty sure it's the update, not the drive.
So is there any way for me to save the information that's currently on there or do I have to bite the bullet and re-backup all that data?
Thanks for any help here. Every time I think I know what I'm doing on the mac I get something stupid like this that I should know but don't.  :-)

Wow, no help at all. Thanks, Apple!! Another stellar performance. That's the last time I ever install an update as it comes up.

  • External Drive not recognized anymore????

Just hoping I can find an answer about this from the community since I'm so inexperienced with the technical stuff pertaining to my iMac.  For some odd reason, and I suppose it could just be that hard drives don't last forever, not sure, a My Book Essential External 3TB, USB 3.0 drive all of the sudden is not recognized by my iMac nor my MacBook Air.  Literally overnight it just stopped being recognized by my apple computers.  I had a whole bunch of data on it that I don't know how I'm going to replace it if I can't get an answer to this. The drives light comes on when the iMac system boots up in the morning, but it don't fire up (I think technically it's called initializing).  Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

test with another computer even a windows computer should be able to detect it even if not mount it
because of the filesystem not being native supported
my wd my book ext 1TB usb2/eSATA/firewire died after 1-1/2 years after having problems spinning up a lot so I had to turn it on and off and on and off to get it to start
toke the box apart and put the 1TB hd in another external case and there it worked so suppose WD are better at making hd's then the external enclosure

  • External monitor not recognized (X200)

    Hi,
I have an X200 with Vista
When I connect an external monitor (or projector) it is not recognized.  Shift-F7 results in a message that no external monitor is detected.  However, if I leave the monitor connected, put the system in standby and then resume, it recognizes the external display.
Any thoughts to how I can get it to recognize without this work-around? Thanks

I had the same problem.  I think it's a vista device driver issue.  Try this-
Power down your laptop.  Plug in the external monitor.  Boot the computer - it should default to the external monitor, and Windows should recognize it.  Then, shut down normally.
Pull the monitor cable, boot your laptop regularly, reattach the cable, and give it a try.
    It worked for me.

  • External Speaker not Working Properly

Ok, i have this annoying problem with the external transducer...basically sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
This kinda disrupts all the allarm options as i can't rely on a device that "eventually" will work.
This is the second iPod Touch i change and the problem is the same so i guess it is not an hardware fault but most likely software.
Has anyone ever encountered a problem like this one?

    PROBLEM SOLVED!!
Just to share information for others who might come across this problem with Bose or any other external speakers, where the male jack doesn't quite go in far enough for the MacBook to recognize it, here is the solution that worked for me:

  • External microphone not recognized

my external USB Samson C01U microphone worked fine under OS 10.6.4 and prior. Now, since upgrading to OS 10.6.5, when plugged in it is not recognized in sound input. Any ideas?

OK, that's not a sustainable solution... but luckily this is:-

It might be a hardware issue, you should stop by a Sony repair center

  • External monitor not recognized!

I have a Philips 180P2 external monitor hooked up to my iMac 2.8 GHz, 24", which was running fine until my upgradte to SL this afternoon. Now (among other little "quirks") the external monitor can't recognize the signal from the iMac ... or rather, the iMac won't display there...
What's odd is that I had, for example, Safari on the external monitor and, when I start that browser, it won't show as it running on the external Philips monitor ... which isn't running (yes, power is on and cable is plugged in). When I unplug the monitor adapter from the back of the iMac it switches to one-display mode again and Safari is shown on the iMac.
The system preferences show the monitor and its position fine ... what's going on?!
Any and all help is REALLY appreciated. Thanks!

I've had similar problems (see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2132912&tstart=0) with my second monitor. When I downgrade the display of the external to 1600x1000, then the internal monitor of the imac to 1600x 1200, the display on the external is not very good. However, if I then revert the external to 1680x1050 and the internal to 1900x1200 I can get both back to what things were before updating to snow leopard. However, when I then switch off the imac for a while and then switch back on again the external switches back and forward between no display and a fleeting glimpse of the desktop.
