External speakers on/off on/off

I recently had to wipe my hard drive and I installed Tiger. Now when I begin iTunes, when I adjust the volume or when I switch songs, my external speakers and harman kardon woofer stop working and I get switched to the internal speakers. Then when I open system preferences and simply select sound - the external setting returns and the woofer kicks in. Any thoughts. Never had this issue until Tiger "upgrade". I also can't reload Click N' Design cd label program.
Thanks

Hello triplec73,
It sounds like this may be a user issue in OS X.
You might want to pose the question here.

  • External speakers do not turn off Qosmio x770 speakers

When I plug external speakers on my Qosmio x770-135 the internal speakers don't turn off.
    Can someonee help me?

You may check the Realtek HD Audio Manager in the Control Panel.
In the top right corner, there's a little yellow folder called "Connector Settings.
There, you could enable the setting "Enable pop-up dialog, when device is plugged in".
Now when you plug in an external speaker or headphones, it pops up and I select the option "headphone" (instead of "line-in"), and then the sound comes out only through the headphones/ext.speaker.

I am using a cassette adapter to play my ipod nano in my car. I noticed it my external speakers are only playing through the right side when I use my nano but are fine when it's the stereo or a regular cassette. Nano is playing fine with headphones. What would cause this?

  • HT4528 some how my speakers are broken or off, is there a way to turn them on, cannot play music

my external speakers are off or broken, is there a way to turn them on , music will not play over speakers

No, there is no settings for speakers other than mute.
    Is your phone muted?
There is a mechanical switch in the headphone port.
Inspect your port for obstructions, try putting the headphones in and removing them several times.

  • When i plug headphones into my computer, the speakers do not shut off. how do i fix this?

I am running Windows & on an HP. not sure of the model number. But the sound system is IDT. It worked fine up until about a year ago. And now whenever you plug headphones in, the speakers do not turn off, but yet the headphones still work. any solutions?

When in DFU mode and connected to the computer iTunes does not say anything but iTunes will see the iPod and you can restore the iPod via iTunes. When in recovery mode and you connect, iTunes will say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

Hi, I have a new Mac Pro and am using two LaCie FW800 external drives with auto power off facility however when I power my Mac Pro down there is still power going to the FW800 ports as the drives down shut down. I am new to macs so is there any config setting to get round this issue?

Don't believe there is but the power to the firewire port is a built in specification.
You could go to the Apple Developer site and look at their firewire SDK (there's many firewire applications, what they do I don't really know. Little too scarry for me.

My iPod Touch will not play through external speakers when it is docked.  It only plays through it's internal speaker.  All the other functions on the iPod can be controlled by the external speakers (volume, track, etc).  How do I fix this?

    I would try in oreder:
    - Resetting the iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restoring the iPod via iTunes.  First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • Problems with sound from external speakers after iOS 5.0.1 update

Have others experienced problems with external speakers on the Iphone 4 after iOS 5.0.1 update?  My phone no longer rings, sounds when i receive a text message, sounds alarm, etc.  Vibrate works fine and when i plug in headphones I can hear music through the headphones.  Any fixes for this?

    Hi Guys,
I have post eariler on another forum and I have the same problem, I have tried all the things listed here and nothing was perminant in fixing this painful iphone hating problem.... and failed.  You probably have the problem when you use youtube or your music external speaker that there is no volume bar and no sound.   I have had the same problem But I need to happily say that I now have the fix!!!!  This worked for me and I fixed it by myself so you don't need to go to apple or service centre or anything.
Ok I like so many of you here truly believed this was as IO5 issue as it only dropped the sound on the speakers once that IO5 update came along.  I tried a bunch of reset, reboots, home clicks, lock and unlocks, to fix this and all failed.  some worked for an hour but then failed.  hours of my life that I will never get back.   but since I have learnt this is not a IO5 problem but a hardware issue! ...  and in paticualar is has to do with your bottom connection.  Your phone is thinking it is docked all the time.
To fix the no sound problem what you need is...
    1.  a torch
    2.  a tooth brush
    3.  methalated spirits
    4. a butter knife
    Step 1.
get your torch and shine it down the bottom connection plate to see what kind of dust, sand, hair or anything you have stuck in there.   all that need to be removed!  everything!  it might look clean but still thats ok go to step 2.
    step 2.
Turn on your music app and put the speakers on!  If your phone is like mine it should not work.  you most probably don't even have the volume display to turn it on but its ok, just do it! and it should still play with no sound.   its important you try and run the speakers as this will show you that it is a hardware problem.
    step 3.
Dip your tooth brush into some methated sprits.   then at your sink tap the exess metho out of your brush as you just want the brushes to be slightly damp, not soaking wet and then scrub the bottom connetiors on your iphone.  work the brush back and forward in a way that scoops the dirt out of the phone, not just pushing it side to side.
(As you bushing you should notice the volume bar come back on or off as you scub.   This happened to me and that is how I realised I was on the right track to fixing this problem as I was doing something external that was actually controling when the volume display came on or off.   but once I cleaned it this still didn't fix the problem...)
    Step 4.
Use the back side of a butter knife (not the sharp side) to gently slide over the connectors on the iphone.  Do this gently as you are only pushing down on the tiny metal contect bars and you should notice the volume display come on again.  slide it back and forward.  Now the area of interest is about 2/3 along the connection plate to the right.   This is the area that has the infomation sent when your iphone thinks its docked.
This has worked for me and I have not had a problem since I did this 2 weeks ago.   I have since learnt that the new IOS 5 has activated a different part of the bottom conectors.  if you have been using dodgy connectors or unapproved apple cables (as I was)  any damage or hair and dirt on the terminal this is effecting it.  Try it.   just remember if you can do something external to your phone then there lies the problem.
Hope this works for your phone as it did for mine.
    Cheers

  • Strange issue with external monitor, only working when external speakers plugged in (using Thunderbolt to VGA adaptor)

Hey – I am having a very strange issue with my external monitor; where it only works if my external speakers are plugged in and connected.
I am using a late 2011 Macbook pro, running Mavericks 10.9.4, along with an MBox 2 (USB Audio Interface), and two powered speakers (KRK Rokit 5). This setup has had no issues. I have just acquired an external monitor (Benq T2200HD), which I am using with a thunderbolt to VGA adaptor (a cheap Chinese knockoff adaptor).
To start - I plugged the monitor in with the thunderbolt adaptor, and it powers up and works fine. However, there is a nasty buzz coming from the speakers. I did some research and it looks like a simple ground loop issue. I did a bit of troubleshooting, and this is where things get weird.
What I found is - If I unplug the MBox, the monitor loses signal from the computer (displaying ‘No Signal Detected!’). Further, if I keep the MBox plugged in, however unplug both the cables from the MBox to the speakers, the monitor loses signal. It doesn’t matter if the speakers are turned off, however they need to be plugged in (or the monitor loses signal). Weirder still, I can unplug the MBox, however the monitor will work if I plug in the speakers through my macs headphone jack.
Simply put, the monitor only works if there is a direct connection between the computer, the speakers, and the power source.  What is going on here? Is the monitor grounding through the computer port, to the speakers (I don’t know how this works, is this possible?). Could it somehow be the cheap VGA adaptor I am using?
    Some other information:
    - Everything is plugged into the same multi-box for power. I have tried plugging things into separate sources, and the result is the same.
    - If I unplug the thunderbolt adaptor, then the speaker noise disappears straight away.
    - The ground noise doesn’t appear in my headphones, which are plugged into the MBox.
Any information would be great – am I missing something here, or is this genuinely weird?

Well, I went back into Best Buy to test on 3 other laptops (2 Asus, and their floor model for this Sony). It seems to be doing the same problem so at least I was able to rule out broken hardware issue on my particular laptop.
Here's what I did to test:
Since I couldn't really install Adobe Premiere on their machines, I used the DVIO software (http://www.carr-engineering.com/dvio.htm) and a 5 min clip I captured.  I transferred onto their machines, hooked up my Sony D8, and attempted to play the video.  It would play for 15 seconds and then stop and jitter with a loud noise (like it does on my laptop).  I even tried changing each machine's firewire driver to the legacy one and same results.  I pulled a brand new 4 pin to 4 pin firewire cable off their shelf and still the same problem.
I think I've nailed it down to Win7x64 bit Home Edition not playing nice with Firewire driver.  Very annoying.  I can't find any concrete evidence of this from other users on any of the forums that have my particular problem, but from my own testing, it's all I can conclude.
I have 2 other things I can try:
    1.  Opening the laptop and looking at the firewire to maybe find appropriate driver (ugh, I don't want to have to open this thing up).
    2.  Upgrading to Win7x64bit Pro and possibly testing with XP on the new MS Virtual PC (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/).  I can't do it with my Home edition apparantly.
Who needs to view video on an external TV anyways....sheeesh...(scarcasm).

  • Can't get external speakers to work using headphone jack on MacBook Pro

I have a male-male connector that I use for my iPod to radio or multimedia player to play on external speakers. When I plug it into my MacBook Pro, sound goes dead on the MacBook Pro, no sound comes out of the external speakers, and the preferences on the MacBok Pro say "Headphone : Headphone port" and volume is at full, and mute is off. Am I doing something wrong, or do I need a repair?  I unplug the cable and sound comes back.

No such problem, eww. The speakers were plugged in and working. I shut off the speakers, but did not unplug them, and when I turned them back on, there was no sound. I tried my headphones, and there was no sound from them, either. The headphone port was dead. I restarted, with no change.
I was getting ready to do an SMC reset and read the preliminary steps. The last one before resetting the SMC was to shut down the MacBook Pro. That brought the port back to life. When I restarted, I had my external speakers back.
    Go figure.
I have not upgraded to Lion because I have PowerPC apps that I want and/or need, so this was not a Lion-related bug. I am certainly glad the port isn't dead. I was not looking forward to having to send in my MacBook Pro for repair.

  • External Speakers Not Working with Snow Leopard

I installed Snow Leopard. Prior to the installation my external speakers, plugged into the headphone jack, worked great. Now, after installing SL, my external speakers and my headphones will not work. Any ideas?

I don't know what the issue was. I muted and then took mute off, still no external speakers or headphones. So, I just restarted. I guess whatever the problem was just fixed itself. Now I have external speakers and headphones.

  • How to get internal and external speakers playing together?

Hey everyone, I just bought the HP ENVY dv7 with beats audio and I love it!  I only have one question that I couldn't seem to get answered anywhere else so I turned to here. Is there a way I can have the compuer's internal speakers (beats audio) and my home stereo speakers (external) playing at the same time? I love how good the beats sound but I also want the surround sound given by the external speakers. So is there a setting I can switch it to so it'll play both? I've tried looking but couldn't find it. Or is there some program/driver like thing I need to download off the interwebs so it'll play both? Thanks in advanced.

    Hello Branman,
I understand you want to play your surround sound system while also being able to hear your internal laptop speakers, is that correct? I will be happy to help you.
Unfortunately that will not work, by design whenever you plug in a surround sound system or just a standard set of headphones the system automatically disables the internal speakers. I was not able to come across any legit online software that you can download to make that a possible transition.
    Thanks

  • Lion audio dropouts with external speakers?

Since I installed OS 10.7.3 (upgraded from 10.6.8), I get audio dropouts whenever I use external speakers.  I use my Mini (purchased a year ago in Feb 2011) connected to my TV for Skype, Netflix, and listening to iTunes, so this effectively eliminates my ability to use it.  I don't get dropouts if I use the internal speakers, and it doesn't seem to matter whether I'm using iTunes to play something resident on the internal hard drive or watching something on Netflix streaming over wifi, or whether I have wifi or bluetooth on or off.  The external speakers are run through an HDMI cable connecting the computer and the TV.

Updates applied, at least one of which caused reccurrence of my audio dropout problem (I'm guessing iTunes is the culprit):
    iPhoto Update 9.2.2
    GarageBand Update 6.0.5
Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 3.10
    Application Loader 2.5.1
    Safari 5.1.4
    iTunes 10.6

  • External speakers popping/clicking sounds on new 24" iMac 2,8 GHz

    Hello everyone,
got a new iMac from Gravis in Germany and connected it via it's headphone jack to my external stereo amplifier and it emits clicking or popping sounds whenever I switch the light in my room on or off. I've used the same connection for my Windows PC and that is working fine - no pops or clicks. The problem also exists if the Mac is muted. I can not hear clicks or popping noises when I disconnect the external speakers and use the in-built ones.
I brought my Mac back to Gravis and explained the problem and they replaced the audio board and cabling. No success. The popping and clicking is still there. Replacing the audio cable with a better shielded one does not fix the problem. Turning the power connectors of amplifier and/or Mac 180° does not help also.
The problem seems to come from a bad shielding inside the Mac or the built-in power supply that is not capable of filtering the power surges.
I've found some threads but I'm not sure whether or not these issues are related. Some people seem to think that these problems are software related.
    A workaround could be:
    1) getting an online USV that disconnects the Mac from the power cabling
    2) using the digital output (toslink)
    3) getting an external Firewire or USB sound device for sound output
Neither of these three workarounds are options for me - I still want a fix for my Mac.
Anyone here who has the same problems?
    vex

    Hi Elvinio,
I'm trying to solve this problem by getting rid of the analog connection between Mac and stereo. I've ordered a digital 7.1 receiver for 250 Euro and a toslink cable for 20 Euro.
Another solution would be an online UPS. That UPS disconnects the Mac from the direct power source and delivers "freshly generated" and "perfect" current without disturbances.
I think that those pops are power surges that are not filtered by the Apple Mac's power supply. My ordinary Windows PC is not subject to clicking and popping sounds - so I suppose that either the power supply or the internal shielding of the Mac is crap.
I hope that those ugly pops are gone when I establish the new connection...
I will post the results of my not too cheap work-around.
    Regards
