External speakers only play form left side :(

I have some Bose Companion 3 speakers on my Al 24" iMac and sometimes they only play out the left side. But if I unplug and plug in the speaker jack (on the mac) it works fine again. Any fix?

so the sound plays through the internal speakers instead of the external speakers? what OS are you using?

  • Something's wrong with my headphone jack, it only plays the left side!!

I know it's not my headphones, cause I've tried 4 different ones, one of them new, and it''s always the left side that's the only working side. If I wiggle the headphones in the jack, the right side will cut in and out. This just happened today, I have no idea why. I didn't drop it, or get it wet or anything, I have no idea what couldv'e caused it. I've had the iPod since the beginning of this year, I don't think I registered it or got a warrenty or anything, I'm not sure how'd I'd check though. Can Apple fix this or can I fix it myself or what would you guys suggest? Thanks.

That happened with me also when I bought my skull candy headphones(iPods headphones hurt my ears). My headphones also worked for a while and then went to a point where I could only hear out of one side. I finally reverted back to the iPods headphones. I just stuck with the original headphones. Maybe I'll buy some of their more comfortable ones.
Also try not winding your headphone cord around the iPod too tightly. I looked somewhere else and someone said that that could be the problem. If you do wrap the excess cord around the iPod, try wrapping them around not as tight. I tried that and I got some extra life out of my old headphones. I would probably still be wearing them if I hadn't stepped on the jack and bent them.
I'm sorry that this is so long. Hope this helped.

  • Speakers only play when headphones are plugged in.

My internal speakers only play when the headphones are plugged in. (System preferences-Sound tells me I'm using Internal Speakers, audio port for sound input).  When I remove the headphones, the red light in the jack goes on and the computer says I'm using Digital Out ("The selected device has no output controls.)
I have read many community responses, most saying that the switch inside the headphone jack hasn't engaged, that I should fiddle with it using a paperclip/bobbypin/toothpick or just plug-in and unplug headphones repeatedly.  I have repeatedly both of these to no avail.  When fiddling, I don't really know which bump inside there is the switch, I've played with them all.
No, it's not dirty, I've blowin air, vaccuumed, dusted. Same problem.
I do use my speakers often for work and pleasure, go between different external speakers and a projector.
It seems that the computer has things backwards- headphones unplugged is pluged and vice versa.
Any suggestions or clear guidance as to what I should be fiddling with when I stick a bobby pin in there?  No need to refer me to old posts, I've read them.
    Thanks in advance,
    TheKip

If your phone is still under warranty, Apple will service your phone for free.
Did you check the headphone port for any kind of debris or lint?
Did you already try another set of headphones? Are you suing the headphones that came with the phone?
Is the headphone jack plugged in fully into the headphone port?

  • IPhone speakers only play certain things, please read!

My iPhone has been acting up. I recently bought it and it has the new 4.0.1 software on it. The bottom speakers only play ringtones, and I can hear people on the phone just fine, and talk back to them. BUT, I cannot listen to music out loud through the phone, and youtube videos volume doesn't work, and app or keyboard volume isn't present either. Is this all because of the new OS? Please reply with any info, thanks!

Iphone volume controls are all independent. When playing music, have you checked to make sure you have the volume turned up? Same with key clicks, you need to adjust the volume while actually using the keyboard.

  • IPod not playing into Left side speaker

I've noticed recently that when I play my iPod in my car there is no sound coming out of my left side speakers (front & back). When my radio is on the speakers are fine, so I've eliminated that from the equation.
So is it my iPod itself (settings?) that is causing this? or could it be my Monster cassette adapter (it's at least 3 + years old)? (Yes I still have a cassette player in my car, 98 Volvo S70)
Any help, suggestions ideas, etc would be greatly appreciated.
    TIA,
    Ian

Does the cassette adaptor connect to the iPod via the headphone jack? If so, do you hear sound through the left earbud? If so, that should isolate the problem to your cassette adaptor.
    Cheers!

  • My dvd only plays the left speaker of my song...

Hello everyone. I recently exported onto a dvd from adobe premiere 2.0 that included a song that i had recorded in mp3 format.
In the song, some of the instruments come out of the left speaker, and some come out of the right. When i play this video on a standard dvd player through a television, the mp3 only plays the audio that is supposed to come out of the left speaker, but it plays it through both speakers. This renders many of the instruments unhearable.
When i play it through a computer, though, with a dvd decoder, it plays everything perfectly.
    What should I do?

MP3's are very often problematic. First, I would check your source file in G-Spot, to see what it reports, 2-channel, or 1-channel.
Personally, I always convert ALL MP3's to PCM/WAV and Import those. This eliminates the issues, and Audition (or the freeware, Audacity) can do this easily. The only exception will be tiny SFX files, and most are mono anyway. Where did your MP3 come from?
Good luck, and let us know how it goes,

  • Ipod touch only plays through left headphone/speaker

my ipod touch first gen recently started only working through my left headphone, at first i thought it was the headphones but then i tried it with numerous other headphones and speakers etc and it still only plays through one.
I've reset, restored the ipod and tried everything if any one can help it would be greatly appreciated.

What happens if my itouch is 2 months out of warranty? I don't think it's reasonable to ask me to purchase a new one for a headphone jack problem. I expect a 300.00 piece of electronics to last more than 14 months, call me crazy. Does anyone have a suggestion other than replace? The Apple Store in Orlando told me it would cost about the same as a new one to fix it. Please help!

  • Airport only plays from left speaker

Just got the Airport Express to hook up to me receiver so i can play music wirelessly from my iphone 5.  I hooked it up the same way i used to hook up my phone to the receiver and its only playing out of the left speakers.  Why?  When i hook up my phone it plays out of all the speakers.  I also tried hooking the iphones headphones into the airport and it only plays out of one speaker.  For $100 i figured it would play out of all the speakers.

To Start with, check in sound balance...to do that...
Go to control panel -> Sound -> Double Click on Speakers -> Levels -> Balance...

  • External Speakers = Only one works

    Hello there
I'm having an issue with my speakers - I have some Altec Lansing speakers connected to my Dell Latitude E6400, and if I want to play audio, then there's only the right speaker working.
    1. They run both if used with - for example - an MP3 player.
    2. It doesn't matter what player I use or which song I play (it's the same issue).
    3. The internal speakers of the laptop work both fine (but the quality is awful).
    4. I think it's the fact that the left speaker is connected to the right via a RCA cable.
    Any ideas?

  • Sound only playing from left

I thought my earbuds were broken because no sound was coming from the right side -- but now I realize that no sound comes from one of the speakers on my iphone 4 itself, either -- any advice on how to fix this?

The earbuds being busted is quite possible. I tried my Sony Ericcson X10's set of speaker earphones with my iPhone 4 when I upgraded. The things were decent with calls, but wouldn't play the main voice on iPod songs, just the background music. I changed to another set of speaker earphones and it worked fine.

  • Music only plays from left ear

Recently my ipod has only been playing music/sound from movies out of only the left ear from any pair of headphones. I initially thought it was the headphones so naturally tried another pair but it's not the case.
Whilst on holiday last week I was experimenting and found that if I really push the headphones into the socket then music plays from both. Another option was that if the headphones weren't plugged in all the way (about half way) then music plays from both ears.
Is there a solution to this, or is it a hardware problem with the ipod?

yes, it is a hardware issue i.e. bad contact
