External speakers quite working with my Imac

I just got new logitec speakers for my imac. I plugged them in, everything worked perfectly. That night i put my computer to sleep and they did not work in the morning. I am mystified. I tested the speakers on my TV, speakers are fine. any suggestions?

Hmmm. I plugged the speakers into the headphone jack. they are  the Audyssey Lower East Side Media Speakers. When I hoty option on the menu bar, headphones are checked as output. When I go to system preferences and check output, all it says is "headphone port." Still no change.

  • External Speakers quit working with Yosemite

Speakers are Harmon Kardon Sound sticks and were working fine AFTER the install of Yosemite but just stopped working today.  Checked Sound in Sound preferences and it is still set on internal speakers for output like always.  I used the headphone jack to connect the speakers and it's been working fine for the last nearly 5 years.  I've tried changing the settings, unplugged the external speakers and rebooted twice to no avail.  Any suggestions?

Same problem - had to unplug external speakers to get them to work even if I selected line out  on the sound preferences,  Rebooting/sleeping would reset the speakers to the Apple monitor's speakers.
The terminal command in the last post here seems to solve the problem:
Audio/ Video not working after Yosemite update
I set the line out to the external speakers, ran the terminal command, and rebooted.
Upon restarting the external speakers were again the default audio output device.  I hope this is persistent!

  • External speakers not working with iMac and Lion

I have a dual core imac with Lion and external speakers I just bought from Apple. I cannot get them to work with itunes or anything else on the imac. Can anyone tell me what to do? They work well with an ipod touch, but not the iMac.

  • External Speakers not working with docking station

A thinkpad is in a docking station and external speakers are plugged in, they don't have any sound. The speakers work fine if they are plugged into the laptop itself. Does anyone have the solution?

    Hi, sjadnew
Apologies, as I wasn't too clear in my last post. If you look on the bottom of the computer, you should see a seven digit code in the format of XXXX-XXX, which is your machine's make and model. If you look on the bottom of the docking station, you should also see a model number, though it may be in a different format. This information can be used to look up the exact docking station and computer hardware to better diagnose. If possible, I would try putting in a request with the IT department to see if you can get the drivers updated.
    Best,
    Adam

  • External Speakers Not Working with Snow Leopard

I installed Snow Leopard. Prior to the installation my external speakers, plugged into the headphone jack, worked great. Now, after installing SL, my external speakers and my headphones will not work. Any ideas?

I don't know what the issue was. I muted and then took mute off, still no external speakers or headphones. So, I just restarted. I guess whatever the problem was just fixed itself. Now I have external speakers and headphones.

  • Can't get Behringer MS20 external speakers to work with Optical Audio Out

I have the MS20 (Just your basic digital audio monitors with analogue and digital inputs:both coaxial and optical) speakers hooked up to the optical output from my new Mac Pro and can't get any sound from them.
I've messed around with all the sound preferences in both the System Preferences and with iTunes and DVD player with no luck.
The speakers work fine with other digital equipment I have and there is a red light comming through the cable. The speakers instructions do specify that they are compatable with the SPDIF signal. Any ideas???

I've previously had trouble getting the sound output to swap over however I did manage to get it done. What I needed to do was to change the output, change the volume up & down via the keyboard, change the output back to the internals, change the volume up & down and so on and after the 2nd/third try the external output worked.

Virtually any DVD burner that can connect to your Mac will work. They start at $40 on Amazon.

  • External Speakers stopped working on Imac

External speakers stopped working.   Verified speakers operating with Iphone.   Checked that speakers plugged in correctly.   Tried usual power cycling step.   External speakers do not show up in sound preferences.    Anyone with any advice?
    Thanks,

If you unplug the speakers to the internal speakers work OK? If not try  resetting the system PRAM see Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
If they still don't work or if the internal works OK then look into the speaker plug. Do you see a red light? There is a switch inside the plug that detects the presents of a  jack and sometimes it gets stuck or breaks entirely.
You could try gently using a non-conductive device (a toothpick is good) probing inside the plug to see if you can free the switch. Of course this could be harmful if done incorrectly. If the system is still under warranty you might want to take it to have it looked at.

  • I have a mid 2007 iMac and the internal superdrive audio cd won't play, the DVD works. Can I purchase an external cd drive that will work with my iMac?

I have a mid 2007 iMac (Model A1224 iMac 7,1) and the internal superdrive audio cd won't play, the DVD works. Can I purchase an external cd drive that will work with my iMac?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Any external optical drive will work with your Mac. If you want an Apple USB SuperDrive, see > http://www.tuaw.com/2012/04/02/use-the-macbook-air-superdrive-with-any-almost-ma c/
The best option is to take the Mac to an Apple Store and get the Mac's SuperDrive repaired

  • How can I make my Altec Lansing work with my iMac?

    Good day to all,
I have an intel-based iMac (24" model Core 2 Duo) and I have an Altec Lansing VS4121 speaker with subwoofer. It was originally on my brother's PC but since he left for abroad I decided to hook it up on my iMac. Thing is, I can't seem to make it work. I plugged the two speakers to the subwoofer and plugged the included phone jack to both ends (subwoofer and iMac's speaker jack) but it doesn't show me an option via System Preferences of an external speaker to choose.
If anyone can help it's greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Note: I also own an M-AUDIO Fast Track Pro USB Preamp if that helps.

Well, I got them to work finally. Plugged the jack into the headphone jack and now my external speakers are working.

  • External speakers stopped working when Yosemiti was down loaded

My external speakers stopped working when I downloaded Yosemiti! how can I remedy this?

Dunno what it has to do with Yosemite, but:  press the alt/option key, while clicking on the speaker icon at the right hand top of your screen. This will show you all the sound inputs and outputs for your mac. Ensure that it is set to "Line Out" or "Digital out" (depending on your speaker's capabilities. Hopefully
    that works

  • Speakers were working with Airport, now they don't work...can someone help?

My external speakers were working nicely with Itunes and Airport for the last year and then last week, they do not work with Itunes. I think it has to do with the new itunes update. I have tried rebooting my computer and Airport Extreme with no luck. Can somebody please walk me thru the process to get my computer reconnected with my airport!?
Thank you very much in advance!

Can somebody please walk me thru the process to get my computer reconnected with my airport!?
Sure, here are the basic steps to configure the AirPort Express for iTunes streaming:
AirPort Express Base Station (AX) - iTunes Setup
Either connect to the AX's wireless network or connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then using the AirPort Utility in "Manual Setup" mode, make the following changes:
    AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
    o Network Name: <existing wireless network>
o Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
o Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
    Music
    o Enable AirTunes (checked)
o iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    o iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    o Verify Password: (optional)
o Click Update to write the new settings to the AX
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
o Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)
The other thing to take into consideration, is that the iTunes host must be able to "communicate" to the AX in order to stream to it. Anything that would "block" the path could prevent audio from reaching the speakers. I would also check your computer's firewall settings to make sure iTunes is not being blocked.

  • My Viewsonic monitor won't work with the Imac using the Mini Port to DVI adapter.

My Viewsonic monitor won't work with the Imac using the Mini Port to DVI adapter. I also tried the HDMI to DVI adapter ane the Mac-Mini with same result. The monitor does work on my older Macbook Pro that has the DVI connector. Is it a Software/Driver issue ?

Should be extremely simple, please carefully read Connect multiple displays to your Mac. If you still have problems then it's probably a cable issue that would be resolved by replacing the adapter cable. You should be using this adapter. If you are using a third party adapter that might be your problem!
