External stereo device to Powerbook G4 audio input

Hi
I am trying to convert all my old cassettes into MP3's. I was trying to use Audacity which supposedly can grab the audio from the audio input and record it in MP3 format. It seems that my Powerbook G4 recongnizes the built-in mic, cd device, and the USB/firewire ports as valid audio input devices. How can I connect my cassette recorder to my Powerbook? I tried to connect it to the minijack port (the one with two triangles and a circle inside) but the input was not reconginzed. Can anyone suggest anything please?
Also, (may be a bit out of topic) would iTunes be able to do the recording?
Regards
Arijit

I have been unable to get the microphone input with a Viewsonic 22" monitor with webcam to work with either iChat or iVisit with my Mac Pro. There have been other reports on the web about newer versions of the OS 10 inactivating the audio input for several programs. Is this why the microphone does not work or is it true that the audio input does not act as one? If the audio input does not work with an external microphone, what is it for?

  • External Audio Input

Recently I discovered that my macbook does not recognize any external microphone plugged in through the audio input jack. If I do not change my preferences in Sound, then it continues to use the internal mic. If I change my preferences in the Sound pane to "audio line-in port", then no one can hear me when I speak into the plugged in mic. Is there a driver or something I'm missing? Help!

Welcome to the Discussions.....you will need an amplified microphone for a Mac or something like this....

  • Issues with External Sound Devices & others - 13" Late 2011

    Good day community,
Out of curiosity, I run Diablo 3 on OS X and its been unplayable since ROS expansion, massive fps drops and crashes, Blizzard claims Apple stopped improving hd3000 drivers on 10.8.3, is this true? Also when I run the game through windows via bootcamp it performs better and doesn't not crash, is this related to hd3000 driver support still being improved in windows?
Other issues I'm experiencing, facetime most of the time fails if I try to pickup a call from the macbook, sometimes it notifies me of the incoming call (iphone 5s) sometimes it doesn't. Bluetooth doesn't work, not even with apple devices, I can't pair any of them. External sound devices such as m-audio fast track pro, native instruments audio 8 dj, allen & heath xone 4d, they all have latency issues and sound clips and pops, even with the onboard sound I experience this if I open a couple graphic editing software while playing itunes. Checked sample rate in audio/midi setup, drivers, firmware, everything seems up to date, I'm not using a USB hub, I updated to Yosemite from Mavericks, which was a terrible upgrade from Mountain Lion and it completely lagged the computer, so when I upgraded to Yosemite I ran disk utility from boot and apparently repaired the hard drive successfully. Performance is better but none of the above issues were solved.
So I'm thinking about formatting from scratch but wanted to drop a line here and see if others have any of these issues and/or some tips.
    Thank you for your time.

    Hi Lyndon4321,
I know that can be frustrating when using an external display, but take a look at the article below to continue troubleshooting. I would take a look at Reset the system and work you way down.

  • Captivate 4 not detecting audio input from USB Microphone

I'm using a Logitech USB microphone in Captivate 4.  When I try to calibrate it, Captivate 4 is not detecting any sound.  It is set up properly.  In the "audio settings" menu, this microphone is listed in the drop down list.  I have selected it as the input device.  However, when I try to "calibrate" this microphone, no audio is detectable.  Captivate 4 is detecting the device, but not the audio input.  I have double checked all the usual suspects--this microphone is selected as the default recording device.  It does not use special software or drivers.  It is designed to use the drivers in Vista.  It works fine with other applications.  I have made sure the input level is detectable.  I've checked to make sure it is not muted.  I have other microphones (non-USB cheapies) that work fine, but I can't get this specific USB microphone to work.
    Suggestions?

  • About the digital audio input/output

So, those accept optical digital audio, and what kind of other digital audio signals?, what kind of adapter i need to use this feature?, so it is compatible with any 5.1 audio system like home theathers etc?

so it is compatible with any 5.1 audio system like home theathers etc?
As long as the stereo has a digital optical audio input, yes.
The port is a "mini-Toslink" port so you'll need a mini-Toslink to Toslink adapter and then a standard digital optical audio cable (Toslink cable). Sometimes you can find a cable with one of each plug at either end.

  • Cannot set Edirol UA 25 as audio input in Magic Garageband

Edirol UA 25 fine when working in GB itself - but despite numerous attempts to set this device as source for audio input (GB Preferences>Audio/Midi) when in Magic GB it keeps switching back to 'Built-in input"
I've downloaded latest drivers for UA 25

I was in channel 2 and switched to channel 1 and it worked fine - thank you.
(normally plug into channel 2 for GB - just force of habit)

  • Why don't USB stereo audio input devices work with  the iPod Touch 4G?

The Fostex AR-4i and the Line6 Mobile In provide stereo audio input via USB on the iPads and the iPhone 4.
Why can't these devices work on an iPod Touch 4G?

Does the manufactur say it works with the iPod Touch?  Many accessories do not work with all three iDevices (iPod Touch, iPad and iPhone)

  • As there is no audio input on the new iMac range, What external equipment will allow me to record onto my iMac ?

As there is no audio input port on the new imac range, what external epuipment can i use to record dj podcasts from a pioneer DJM 700 mixer?

I'd be inclined to use something like the Numark Stereo I/O. If you're currently using the line-in on an iMac then you will see a drastic improvement.
    http://www.numark.com/product/stereoio
That said, you can spend as much or as little as your wallet will allow on a USB input device, more investment brings better quality ADCs, higher bit rates, lower latency and more inputs.

  • How can I get my audio input and output devices back? I have no sound and cannot see any of the devices in Audio MIDI Setup..??

Hi, I tried to set up a new output audio device on my mac that would have multiple outputs (iBox Twist speaker and my internal speaker) but when I went to click onto one of the iBox Twist (there were 2 options available: iBox Twist and iBox Twist Stereo), Audio MIDI Setup crashed and when I finally got that back open, I found that there were no audio input or output devices to be found. My sound is working, as when I turn on my iMac, the starting sound still plays, however the volume control in the menu bar is no longer a black colour, but grey and when I try to change the sound on my keyboard it does not change. This already happened to me once, and after 3 hours I managed to fix it very simply (switching off Mac, unplugging power cord, leaving for 15 seconds, plug power cord back in and switch Mac back on, holding Alt, Cmd, P and R keys until you hear the Starting Up sound twice) however this same technique that fixed it once before is not working this time and I am still stuck without sound. I have tried Repair Permissions, rebooting in Safe Mode, Hardware Test and checking for Software Updates. Has anyone else had this problem and managed to fix it?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me!

In case anyone has had the same problem as me, I have just managed to fix this by doing the following:
    Switch off Mac
Switch back on in Safe Mode (Hit power button, then hold Shift key until a loading bar appears at the bottom of the screen).
    Switch off Mac again
Remove power cord and wait 15 seconds
Plug power cord back in and hold down the keys alt, cmd, p, r all at the same time until you hear Starting chime for a second time and hopefully your audio will back.

  • Recording from a Stereo Device to Audio-In Port

Hello, I'm new...I'm attempting to record from my korg kaoss pad to my powerbook g4 (17in) - the kaoss pad has stereo effects that are lost when recording through my mac's audio input jack. I am considering purchasing a usb audio interface - will this solve the problem? any other possible solutions?
I can't even figure out how to record in mono so that the mono signal pans center...easy to do in garageband, but i can't seem to find this option in soundtrack...I've been resorting to duplicating every track and panning them right......bah!

    Hi,
Are you trying to upload to your computer, the audio tracks on old LPs played on the stereo? If so, probably a better way to go is to get a second set of audio cables to go from the audio/line-out jack of either the phonograph or amplifier (depending upon your stereo's setup) to the audio-in jack at the back of your Dell (assuming you have a sound card installed).
I suspect if you use the iPod Voice Memo mic for recording the LP as it plays over-the-air so to speak, the quality won't be great. Better to input directly into the sound card the audio output produced by the stereo.
Depending upon what you want to do with the audio tracks once it's on the Dell, you can get other pieces of hardware, such as an M-box, or software to further clean up to sound, before you import it into iTunes (for example).

  • Missing audio input devices

I have 5 mac pro systems. All running the same OS and software versions. All using the AJA Io HD as the primary A/V capture device. 1 of the mac pros can select the Aja IO HD as the audio input in Soundtrack...on the other 4 the option is missing. But if you click configure device, the Aja is there..youjust can't assign it..I a able to use the Aja as an audio input in Quicktime on all machines as well as FCP, Audacity, etc..so I can't see how it would be a driver issue and I have used the exact same configuration in the aja control panel..any ideas?

Well, I'm still on the same machine I once installed Leopard (10.5) on, and I've upgraded to Snow Leopard to Lion and now to Mountain Lion, the only thing I always had to replace after installation was the AppleHDA.kext (in System>Library>Extensions). The version I have is 1.8.4fc3. But there's no guarantee that that'll work for you, chances are you have different hardware.
If you use an audio interface with drivers, you won't need the .kext - but you don't get the built in inputs (which are crap anyway, compared to an external (24 bits) audio interface).

  • Cant record into to logic pro 9 using samson l1200 live mixer, System/Pref/Audio input tab says selected device has no input control

Hi Im new to this so bare with me..When I connect my Samson l1200 live usb mixer to my Imac 7,1 Intel duo core 3gb ram, osx10.6.8, via usb cable to record vocals/instruments, in System Pref/Audio/Output tab is set to mixer's UsbAudioCodec driver, (Im able to hear playback into headphones via the mixer, and hear the mic when spoken into it but cant record a track into Logic...System/Pref/Audio input tab says selected device has no input control, Ive set the input/output settings in Logic to UsbAudioCodec but still no good...Would it be either the way the mixer is set up? or is this mixer (Samson l1200) not compatible with my particular Imac? I hope I may be able to help as Im only a student trying to record my band thanks

    I perfectly understand your problem.
First... just to make sure, in Logic's preferences /Audio make sure Universal Track Mode IS checked, it should be enabled. (I think it probably is just checking)
Second... if you record a track in a new Logic project and then go to the next track to record an overdubbed guitar part, are both parts recorded on the 2nd track?
What I'm asking is overdubbing working differently for two or three recorded tracks as opposed to overdubbing with an imported track.
What I think is happening is you have the main stereo output being recorded into Logic so if you playback an imported or recorded track from Logic while recording a 2nd track (overdub), both are going to be recorded on the 2nd track.
I took a look at the manual, here's the relevant sections.
34 – SEND – USB input send switch
The USB INPUT switch allows you to select one of
two stereo (or two channel) signal paths to feed the
USB output to send to the connected PC. When the
INPUT switch is in the up position, the USB signal will
feed from the MAIN left right mix. When the INPUT
switch is in the down position, the USB signal will
feed from the AUX 1 and AUX 2 buses which enables
you to create a unique mix to send to the PC.
    35 – RETURN – USB return switch
The USB RETURN switch allows you to select one of
two stereo return paths to receive USB audio from
the connected PC. When the ASSIGN switch is in the
up position, the USB signal will return to the MAIN
mix bus. When the ASSIGN switch is in the down
position, the USB signal will return to the last pair
of stereo channels which enables you to playback a
recorded track in the MAIN mix, and you can use the
channels AUX sends to feed any of the AUX buses.
This will let you hear the USB playback tracks in the
    monitor mixes.
36 – MONITOR – USB headphone enable switch
Press the USB MONITOR switch down if you want
to hear the signal from the USB return in the
    headphones.

  • Can i change my audio input/device ?

Hello . The built-in mic that comes with my camcorder, is not good enough for my needs. can i record video with the camera but record another input/audio source in iMovie HD ? I know i can record little add ons afterward, but i mean while recording the video . I would like to use my audio interface as the device to capture audio. PLEASE HELP ! ( my first problem about recording 2 different video sources was not solved, but i will be more than content if this one is )

To make this more interesting, I am trying to troubleshoot an echoing issue I have when using softphones and other voice communication software.  When callers talk and I use "speakerphone" mode, they can hear themselves.  I manually loaded PulseAudio's noise-cancel module and afterwards a device named "Built-in Audio Stereo (echo cancelled with Build-in Audio Analog Stereo)" showed up in the Gnome Sound Settings list.  If I unload that module the device disappears and I am back to  nothing showing in the Input list.

  • How do I synchronise my Intel iMac's SPDIF audio input to an external clock source?

How do I synchronise my Intel iMac's SPDIF audio input to an external clock source?
I have a Focusrite ISA One microphone pre-amp with digital ADC card fitted. Both devices are set to 24 bit/44.1kHz and connected by Optical cable (from ISA One to iMac's optical SPDIF input)
I've tried to get the iMac to slave to the ISA One's digital clock by looking in the Audio MIDI set-up but cannot get it out of 'Default' mode. Focusrite tell me it needs to be 'Locked' in the Mac but I can't see how to do that.
The Mac recognises when I change the ISA One's sample rate because Pro Tools gives me an alert, which would suggest that it's receiving data. But all I am hearing on the input is digital white noise.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers!

USB and FireWire work in very different ways, so there is no adapter.
Instead, you should just get a USB 2.0 hub, like this one
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/USB2HB7PRO/
There are many choices, but be sure to get one that is powered (it comes with its own power supply).  Cheaper hubs rely on the computer's USB port for power.
