External toolbar....really!??

Hey thanks Adobe that you want us to pay for an app on an external device to have a feature that should've been in Photoshop long ago. Customizing the toolbar has been requested multiple times by myself and others and infinitely overlooked by Adobe. Why you would think a sensible solution is to require tapping on an external device is beyond reason.
Are you in touch at all with the screen resolutiuons that are standard now that allow for and almost require a scalable and customizable toolbar? I can have an endless number of workspaces, customize the hell out of the menus and keyboard shorcuts but not the most utilized part of the interface. ABSURD! You go to so much effort to implement or update obscure features and continually overlook an instrumental piece in the daily workflow of PS.
It doesn't take much imagination to see the overwhelming benefits this feature would offer. Try focusing more on how your customers are using the product and not how many things are in it to use. Expecting people to integrate an external device and take their focus away from the screen where they are designing is unthinkable. That's akin to using a Cintiq to only switch layers!!
Come on guys...other apps like PSP and Corel Paint have had this ability for years. Yes I understand there are keyboard shortcuts and quick keys on Wacom tablets but reality is most users do quick interchanges between keyboard and clicking the tools depending on the task at hand. Having toolbars we can customize to our workflow just like the workspace is a natural element to efficient use of Photoshop and other Adobe apps.

  • Strange background color of an external toolbar

I use Windows (7) Classic look.
    - When tabs are in title bar, Roboform toolbar has a strange blueish background color. How can I fix it? (background: -moz-dialog; doesn't help).
    Thank you.

Hi, does this issue only appear in Firefox or also in other applications? Did this issue appear after an Firefox update? Probably it's related to your video/graphics driver.

  • Aperture Vault & Time Machine on same external drive?

I learned from an Aperture ProLab teacher that using Time Machine as a backup for my Aperture library is not always successful (something about the packaged file format?) - and it was recommended that I use the Vault in Aperture.  Is it possible (and how, if so) to partition my external drive to be used with both Time Machine (to back up my entire hard drive) and Aperture's Vault?

    Jessica-
I don't see why not, if the external is really large. Just partition using Disk Utility.
However personally I recommend buying additional hard drives rather than partitioning. Mass storage is now cheap. We always grow into hard drive space anyway, and there is a design elegance to having spearate physical drives. Design elegance in backup routines tends to lead to less errors.
I buy quad-interface drives from OWC
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/
for connection speed as well as flexibility in repurposing drives, but for backup-only cheaper USB (slower) drives from Newegg or Deal.com also are ok. Just look at cost per GB to find drives of best value.

  • External and Proxy User

    Hi,
I currently have 2 users: APP_USER and OPS$APP_USER (External). I have granted OPS$APP_USER to be able to proxy authenticate APP_USER.
As it is now, my external user can connect to the database like so:
sqlplus /And I can connect via proxy auth like so:
sqlplus OPS$APP_USER[APP_USER]/mypassBut what I want is to be able to connect without specifying the username and password. Maybe something like this:
sqlplus [APP_USER]/Of course that's just a sample and it doesn't work. Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks,
    Allen

Edited by: Robert Geier on Dec 6, 2011 8:34 AMHi,
I will only have one external user and it won't be over the network.
I will be invoking external shell scripts which will include sqlplus connections on it. For security reasons, I don't want to pass the password as a parameter on the script so instead I would like to use external user to connect easily and securely. I referred to this link http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/asktom/f?p=100:11:0::::P11_QUESTION_ID:142212348066.
For the proxy auth, I have the APP_USER user have all the objects instead of the external user but I wish to give it privilege to run as APP_USER.
I will check on the LOGON TRIGGER.

  • Time machine automatically added my external hd to exclusion list

    Has this happened to anyone?
Today I happened to open Time Machine and look at the exclusion list to find that my portable external hard drive, which I carry with my macbook everywhere and is where I store most of my files, and which I have always included in the backups, was now listed as being excluded. Entering Time Machine, I see that the last backup was in February of this year so it must have been excluded immediately after that. But I can't think of why the drive would have been added onto the exclusion list. I haven't changed the settings for at least a year. I have two drives that I backup to: one USB and one NAS, alternating. I've had this set up for about a year. I did move recently though, and I think maybe it was around February that I set up my NAS at this new place and resumed backing up to it along with my USB drive. I know TM excludes external drives by default. Is it possible that TM somehow reset itself when it reconnected with the NAS, which is why the external was re-excluded?
Of course I took it off the list again, but I'm just trying to understand why this happened, so I can avoid anything similar happening again in the future. It was pretty scary to discover, because I have very important documents on that drive that need to stay backed up.
    Thanks!

Or do I just need to get a 2nd external HD with less memory and dedicate it to Time Machine?
Well, OP is considering this option, and it one way to go TM-dedicated TM external. Really their options depend on how much free space is present on their Mac internal and current external. Disk Utility erase/ partition options will reformat, quite obviously, but even if they have just one external available it is usually possible to backup video and other stored files to say DVD media while they reorganize/ reformat their backup drive.
Another choice is to turn TM off.

  • Time Machine taking over my external HD

Is there a way to stop Time Machine from taking over my external HD? I have a 1T for video and photos and previously used Retrospect for the backups. It doesn't do it automatically with the iMac Intel Processor (older version of Retrospect) so I thought Time Machine would be the answer (instead of upgrading Retrospect). However, I am not willing to give up my entire HD to Time Machine - I only want my documents backed up and then the changes to files backed up with the previous backup deleted. Is there any way to do this? I've already excluded all the apps, etc. and still end up with huge backups. And according to the info about Time Machine, it's going to keep taking over the HD until it is full!!! The Retrospect backups for the past 3 months are 3G for the original backup of documents and the current backup.
In 24 hours with Time Machine I already have 75G and counting!!!

  • Macbook Pro Retina Fan Speed with 3 vs 2 external displays

    Hello,
When I'm in my home office, I often use my MacBook Pro Retina in Clamshell Mode (in a BookArc) with external displays.
Originally, I used 2 external displays (2x 1920x1800), and the fan speed and temperature remained stable at the lowest end of the spectrum (around 2200rpm and 60°C). However, recently I decided to use all the ports available and plug in an extra monitor (1680x1050) for that extra screen real estate. I can tell you that having three external monitors really makes a difference to my productivity. However, just by adding this extra display, the fan speed boosts up to a minimum of 4500rpm and often goes up to around 6000rpm. The temperature is also high (I guess the fan speed is a symptom of this).
I understand that the extra pixels in the 3rd monitor could definately tax the GPU more. However, I am suprised that the fan speed and GPU temperatures go so high, especially as all I am doing is moving around on a Preview PDF file, just from adding the extra monitor (especially with it's modest resolution).
    I guess my questions are:
Is this expected behaviour for the rMBP?
Is this going to damage my rMBP with extended use (say, a good 6-8 hours pretty much every day for the next few years)?
    Thanks very much,
    Richard

I've managed to get the fan speed down to a reasonable, less audible level by using that old VRAM terminal command to enable me to keep the internal display disabled whilst the lid is open. I've had to shift quite a lot round on my desk to make this happen, but I guess it was the only way. It now runs 3 screens under similar loads at approximately 3500prm.
Taking your advice into consideration, I raised the rear feet and this enabled further decrease in fan speed. I guess one of those laptop stands will augment this effect, and I will look into them.
Anyway, thank you for your help!
    Thanks,
    Richard

  • Finder not recognizing "Time Machine" partition of my external HD.

My Seagate 2TB External HD (the one that says it works especially for Mac Time Machine!) is partitioned in 2 - half for my music and other half for Time Machine. I barely even use my computer, though it is basicallly on all the time. I have a 2012 MacBook Air running OSX 10.9.2. Help!!

  • Exclude window in time machine grayed out my external HD

Since a week I bought an external hd to backup my data using time machine.
After selecting the hd to be used for time machine, the backup process end in a few seconds! and the hd space is still empty. I've tried to check the option window and I found that it's exclude my hd from the backup, don't know it this is normal or not.
As you see in the screenshot, it's show the esitmated size for the backup (131.97 GB). The type of the hd is Toshiba and it's formatted using HFS+, there is no problem when I want to copy files manually on the hd. The problem just appear with the Time Machine settings.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Airport Extreme with NTFS external HD solutions for both Mac and Windows

I recently bought an apple extreme when friends who have them say you can shared both printers and external harddrives really easily. However, it seems I am unable to share my many NTFS harddrives. I see after searching forums that it does not support NTFS but does FAT32.
One day I will convert all my home laptops to mac's but at the moment I am using XP and Vista for the time being so converting them to the apple format is not an option.
The problem i have is that if I convert them to FAT32 then I will only be be to have ISO's that are less than 2gig in size, an only be able to format up to 30 gig. If I have a 500 gig disk I'll be left with 470 gig of wasted space that cannot be used.
Can anyone suggest a good solution for me? perhaps someone has worked out how to format FAT32 greater than 30gb. or perhaps there is another disk format that would be better to use and can be read/write from XP/Vista PC as well as being recognised by Airport extreme. Any help would be good as I am reluctant to get a refund on it, but will have to if I can get it to work with large files/partitions.

I think I answered my own question. I found this on the web:
    http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?fat32format.htm
Seems to suggest that using this third party exe to format it instead of windows inbuilt one will allow for partitions greater than 32GB. So this looks the way to go. And the 2GB limit per file is just for FAT16 not FAT32 apparently, but even if it is I only have a few iso/video files bigger than 2 gig so will just use a splitter on them.
Hope this is useful to someone else

  • I just updated to Firefox 5.0. When try to install tds toolbar (tds is my isp) Firefox won't allow it. If I cannot install tds toolbar, can I return to an earlier version?

    The question is self-explanatory

Yes, you can go back to Firefox 3.6.18 - http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
You might want to ask TDS if they have plans to update that toolbar for Firefox 5.0 any time soon. If they don't, you're gonna have continuing problems with Mozilla's Fast Release schedule for Firefox, which has new versions coming out every 6 weeks or so. Until that toolbar is fixed properly, it's going to be disabled every 6 weeks or just remain disabled.
The question I have for you is, does that toolbar really have much of value to you? Does it have a special features that aren't available with a different toolbar or extension? Like maybe one where the developer keeps it up to date as new versions of Firefox are released?

  • I, like many other users, cannot install Google toolbar. It won't install!

As soon as I updated Firefox to the latest version, the one I am using now, I downloaded Google toolbar for Windows 7; however, when I tried to install it just would not install due to incompatibility issues. I did a research on the Web regarding the problem and I found lots of users complaining about the same problem; so, that means that lots of people out there have the same problem. In the previous version of Firefox I had Google toolbar installed and it is great and would like, like many others, have it installed in my Firefox. If you have a work around to install it please advise. By the way...It just won't install on Windows 7.

  • Cannot print "working with files and folders htm

When I try to print "Working with files-and-folders" from a Google search, it only prints part of it. I have changed my destination folder to no avail. Thank you or any help, Jack Menendez

What's the best method for moving all my nonsystem related stuff over to this new driveIan has provided you with the best solution, SuperDuper.
But if you have a 250 GB external, you really ought to clone your entire system,(only about 3 GB) so you have a backup.
I keep mine with a complete clone of my internal, that way it is easy to boot from the external and run utilities like Disk Utility, TechToolPro, DiskWarrior, etc. on the internal and vice versa.
If you run into a problem with say Preferences and don't know which one is the troublemaker, just trash the whole pref folder and use the good one from the clone. Font problem, same deal. And, if diaster ever strikes, you can just boot up from your external and keep right on working - fix the internal when you have time.
    That's my 2 cents anyway

  • Error 1 Configuration VIs while Passing Refnum through Shift Register on Mac

    All,
I am using LabVIEW 2013 SP1 with Mac OS X (Mavericks). I have a simple shift register VI that initializes a .ini file, reads/writes, and closes. I've done this plenty times on windows with no problem. I wrote a quick VI on Mac and I get Error 1. I can't figure out what the problem is. I am attaching my VI. Can somebody shed light on this issue please?
Kudos always welcome for helpful posts

Keeping the AE in memory is not enough! The Top Level VI in whose hierarchy the Open Config case is executed needs to stay active (eg. not going idle) for as long as you want the open configuration to stay valid. The underlying object where the configuration information is stored in is a queue and that is a refnum like any other refnum in LabVIEW. And all real refnums in LabVIEW (except optionally the VISA ones) will be closed as soon as the top level VI in whose hierarchy the refnum was created/opened goes idle (stops executing).
Actually even with VISA, "User Data" is lost when the caller goes idle although, VISA will automatically re-open a session identical to the previous session for that alias. Just "User data" isn't preserved in the session history.  Ditto for DAQmx, last session information is externally stored and retrieved (The lookup is by string- so you can coerce a string to VISA Alias or DAQmx I/O container.) the "Session histoy sticks around as long as the VI is in memory.  A trick I learned with an  init all vi call in a TestStand sequence Pre-UUT loop and a model that unloaded the modules when complete.  (I recall I just opened the VI FP "Hidden" as a work around)
Most NI-Drivers (NI-DMM, NI-Scope etc...) also have this external since really they all use "VISA" down deep (an oversimplification but a good rule of thumb)
THE EXCEPTION: Software defined instruments.  These act like file refnums and become invalid when the top level vi goes idle. Its the FPGA refnum that dies the sudden death on the "Legacy" drivers. I have not played with "RFmx" and wouldn't mind learning what happens in there.
And just too really turn it all on its head, There is an LabVIEW Configuration option to "Automatically Close VISA Sessions."  Check that box and the external VISA storage is tossed under the bus so all those sessions you stored on a USR go invalid as soon as the Top Level goes idle
Some days that can really bug you

  • Oracle 9i/10G DB authentication using Active Directory (with out OID)

    Hello All,
We want to use a Single-Password authentication scheme using the Active
Directory as the primary source for userId/Password.
We don't want to use the Active Directory and OID bridge.
As we have many databases and would like to configure all Databases to use Active
Directory for Authentication. Our goal is to have single id/password across all
the databases and any user should be able to login from any computer using their
windows id/password, note that we don't want to use the OSAuthentication.
We have read the documents provided by oracle for authentication using Active
Directory, we were able to create Oracle Schema in Active Directory and were
also able to register a DB with Active Directory and then created user as global
user in Oracle Database and provided the DN of the user. When we tried
authenticate with all this setup it comes back and says invalid ID/Password !!!
And with 10G database we get the Oracle Error ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel !!
Has any one tried or have information on Integrating Oracle to Auth against Active Directory?
    Envoirnment:
Oracle DB Version: 9.2.0 and also tried on 10.0.1 with same results
Operating System: Windows 2000/ Windows 2000 Server
Constraint: We don't want to user OID ( as we don't have license for this
    product ! )

I have a thread started similar to your request.
    OS Authenication on Windows
Somewhere I read this. It works on Oracle 9i on Linux, but I have not tried it with Oracle 9i on Windows.
    SHOW PARAMETER OS_AUTHENT_PREFIX;
    SHOW PARAMETER REMOTE_OS_AUTHENT;
    CREATE USER OPS$SOMEUSER IDENTIFIED EXTERNALLY;
    GRANT CREATE SESSION TO OPS$SOMEUSER;
For the username, I wonder if we are supposed to put the Windows Domain name as part of the username? Such as, for a Windows domain user MyDomain\SomeUser
    CREATE USER OPS$MYDOMAIN\SOMEUSER IDENTIFIED EXTERNALLY;
I really wish Oracle or somebody created a guide or book on how to do this.
