Please give me the infomation on third party tool used for monitoring the process chains, handling issues and job scheduling.
Also why do we need third party tools and what are the available third party tools..

Giving you a scenerio,
Data load from Oracle to BI. Flow is
Oracle 7.0 --> Oracle 10G Daily refresh
Oracle 10G --> BI 7.0 Daily load ones Oracle 10G refresh complete
how BI 7.0 will understand if 10G refresh is complete ?
Need a triggering/scheduling tool which triggers events that this step is complete.
These tools usually reads a small file usually kepts on servers using FTP ones one step is complete. Such tools read if the file is available ( based on conditions provided, like check between 2am to 3am if file has arrived etc.) and ones available they trigger an even and next process starts
E.g. MAESTRO is used in such case.

Right tool for the job?

Hello,
before I spent too much time investigating AM, could someone please answer me if it is the right tool for my scenario.
What I need is SSO solution, that supports:
- authentication with username /password, X509 cert, maybe even kerberos
- the system needs to authenticate internal users (eg. AD users wih kerberos) and external users (eg. username / password)
- the system is SOA oriented, all business logic is implemented in web services
- if user invokes a web service, she needs to be authenticated, and her identity must be known to web service
- so far I think there's no problem, right?
- now, the first web service needs to call another web service. I need to pass original user identity further down the service-call-chain. Possible?
- as a side feature, I'd like AM to provide additional user properties (principals?), eg. external user's company name
Is this the job for AM or do I need another tool?

I am looking for a tool that help me to monitoring and take some statistic from ASA 5500 series, for example:
monitor the number of connections in use
monitor the number of tunnels in use
monitor the number of sessions in use
monitor throughput, packets and errors on all interfaces of the Cisco ASA
monitor encrypted traffic throughput
monitor your firewall’s uptime
monitor statistics for TCP and UD
Looking at on the internet I found this tool LogicMonitor somebody knows if this tool is good and reliable???

You didn't mention if you're looking for a free or licensed tool.
We use ManageEngine/OpManager as our main monitoring and reporting (NetFlow) tool for our ASAs.

From Oracle only the Enterprise Manager Web interface and the DMS Web monitoring tool are what Oracle offers. The DMS environment runs independent EM at:

Other than those two options Oracle9iAS does have partner monitoring products that may offer a non-web UI - CA, BMC, Mercury Interactive etc have plug ins - these do require an additional purchase of their management environment.

In IDES server when iam goto Tr.code -- SM36 -- Standard Jobs -- Default Scheduling iam getting below error.

Message no. BT117
Diagnosis
The SAP system was unable to save the current job in the database. This failure suggests that there is a problem with the database system or with the network connections between the SAP application servers and the database system.
System Response
Job not saved and not scheduled.
Procedure
To analyze this problem, start by checking the system log for messages about network or database problems. You can also use the computing center management system to check your system for problems.

Sometimes this error will come.
Try to schedule jobs manually using SM36 instead of using standard job button.

Its nothing to take with database conenctivity as SAP is up and running .

If if want just to monitor various technologies, lets say BizTalk, then there are lot of tools available for this. BizTalk 360 and SCOM are two main tools.
similarly if you want to monitor SAP- like availbility of SAP services/URLS/Databases etc, then HP OpenView can be one option.
However, if you just want to make sure your business process ( integrated BizTalk/SAP..etc) are up and running then you could write some Automated Smoke test scripts, which will perform some basic testing and make sure all components are up and running.

I just had a bill with $112 overage for voice, I believe the overage began 13 days before the end of my billing cycle. If I'm reading the above correctly I should have been notified but wasn't. I understand your frustration of receiving a bill that isn't what you expected but sometimes this happened because a number of possible things that may have been over looked or even simply a possible error but I have to point out that the usage automated system updates daily but isn't guaranteed to be 100% reliable because of a number of different variables that could cause the information to be off. My suggestion is to use the #BAL from the device or #MIN to check usage, these are usually closer to the correct usage balance.
Another got suggestion to avoid this from happening is to log into your MyVerizon app on your device or online and keep track of your activity there..

I am aware that there are Database host-based IDS. wonder if it can do the above?

You're going to need to enable and configure auditing on the database before any tool is going to be able to monitor and/or report on the results of the auditing. If you are just looking for the reports you outlined above, I would wager that it would be significantly quicker and cheaper to have someone write some monitoring scripts than to evaluate and configure some third-party tools.
If you are planning on using a third-party tool in a more comprehensive way, it probably makes sense to invest the time & effort to evaluate different tools, to buy one, and to configure it. For the reports you're talking about, though, even having someone come in for a couple days to set everything up will be cheaper and quicker.

Tool for monitoring several linux desktops

Hi i currently administer a small office all with linux machines. I also have a server that is up all the time. I'm looking for a tools to automate the processs of watching the desktops if they are behaving well. Something that is client-server. I can use the seerver that is always on to send me emails. I would like to monitor the desktops to see if they are healthy and replace parts or do mainteinace before they fail. Currently im working with very old computers so hard disk failure is common (one every two months), and also sometimes the users fill up the hard disk.
Is there a tool that can send information from all these computers to a central server and then anaylze it? Im looking for info produced by smartmontools and df, and maybe other program, but im not looking for information on the network, as it is not very crucial and theyre desktop machines not servers.
Ive looked at nagios but i think is overkill and mainly for servers.
I just run around 12 computers with linux, all of them desktops except for one.
Also is there a way to automate the update and installation of software of these machines? currently im using webmin cluster module for sending instructions to all of them, but it is rather clumsy.
Is there such a tool, or should i relly in some custom solution, maybe bash scripts + ssh ?

Unless your out of hard drive slots you have all those drives from the clients that keep going out. If you had a backup tape system that would clear the single point of failure problem. Of course, you can put the PXE install on a separate disk.

The server that is serving the PXE clients, is impervious to the actual PXE installation. It is efficient however to maintain, because you can use the main server's package cache (assuming you pay attention to differing architectures), and pacman into the PXE client installation specifying the PXE root for operations affecting the PXE installation. You can run the PXE clients without disks in them. On the windows side, there are windows installations via PXE and iSCSI. Nothing says you can't use sshfs instead of nfs for the clients. You wouldn't need to necessarily log into the PXE clients root account to make changes. Most of that could be done from the server that it resides on. Point two is that the files actually serving the PXE clients can be on a totally different computer pointed to by DHCP. You can turn the router DHCP off, and have the requests answered by Arch's dhcpd.

I havn't tested it myself, but screenshots show how BSP editing is done with a preview window and some code completion.
Perhaps not as nice HTML editor as dreamweaver but much nicer for ABAP development.

SUBINACL - the right tool for the job?

Here is the scenario:
DomainA and DomainB
Full Trust both ways
Windows File Share in DomainA. Created a windows server in DomainB. Used Quest Migration Manager to migrate users and groups from DomainA to DomianB, keeping SID history. Xcopied files from DomainA server to DomainB server, keeping the permissions from DomainA.
Now, the Trust will be broken and we need to change the permissions from [email protected] to [email protected] Thousands of shares and permissions, so can't do manually. So far I have tried SUBINACL in the following context:
Subinacl /noverbose /output=e:\ntfs_perms.txt /subdirectories e:\Share
and then
Subinacl /playfile e:\ntfs_perms.txt
This changed some of the permissions to DomainB, but removed a lot of permissions.
Is this the right tool to use for this? Is this the right syntax for this scenario?

Sorry for the delay reply.
It seems like you have enabled the SID history.
Based on my experience, after we completing the migration, sIDHistory should be removed from migrated principals to minimize management complexity. Microsoft has provided a sample script and
Powershell command to remove SIDHistory.
So, please first confirm if the migration process completed or not, then plan to remove the SIDhistory.

Is FCS Right Tool for this job?

Newbie, here so please, bear with me.
Where I work, our expanding video production demands have finally overwhelmed our stack o' external drives storage and organization "system."
What we need is the following:
1) A single, organized data store for projects and "B" roll.
2) The ability to search that store.
3) The ability to download "B" roll and other video pieces for inclusion in new projects.
4) The ability to add new projects and "B" roll.
Right now, our network won't support direct editing of video from the server, so the plan would be to use FCS to locate and preview videos, and then to download what's needed to the local machines for use in projects.
We use Final Cut Studio and iMovie in my department, another department uses Avid (at the moment).
We have maybe a dozen people who would be browsing the video store, and maybe 4 who would be downloading and uploading items back and forth.
So, would Final Cut Server do what we need it to do? And given that our network will continue to be a bottleneck for the foreseeable future, could we get by for a year or two with a Mac Mini Server talking to a networked file store, or a DroboPro or Firewire RAID?
Thanks in advance for your advice. I'm trying to build a case to take to my bosses, and with the budgetary straightjacket we're in, cheap and good enough is more salable than expensive and perfect.

Final Cut Server will be running on Leopard Server, not the desktop Leopard OS. "Server" helps manage clients on a network. AFP is part of that set up, and not difficult at all.
The main reason to not use a Mac Mini, is the RAM requirements of FCSvr and a file server managing many clients. A Mini's CPU power is fine. Redundant power supplies in an XServe will only prove useful in an Enterprise level network. The power supplies rarely go out on computers. But you do have the space for the RAM upgrades you'll need, as I stated before.
If you're running Ethernet, you'll be editing Pro Res proxies locally, and the full res files linking back automatically when you check the FCP project back in. OR you can have FCSvr download the full res files to your local workstation to edit with, but be aware that with Ethernet, this can be, depending on project duration and amount of media, a very LONG, LONG, LONG process.
If you can afford Fibre cards and some prefabed cables, go for it. You don't need XSAN to run Fibre on a small network.

is there any tool beside "top" that can monitor CPU activity in mi-range servers as SUNFIRE 4800 ?
Because i need time slot to know the peak time of the CPU and its activity in real time
P.S : i have Solaris 8 and Solaris 9

Just to amuse yourself run sar and mpstat and prstat/top against the same time-slice on a multi-proc machine. I think you'll be surprised at how inaccurate sar is.
Some portions of Solaris are very old and don't get updated. sar appears to be one of them.

Is this the wrong tool for the job?

I am trying to create a pdf slideshow, to demonstrate what screenshots of a web-application will look like.
I'm confused how to handle the page sizes, since, while a screenshot may indeed be comparable to a landscape piece of paper, a web page may have a more vertical, portrait look because of the scrolling.
Do I make all the pages portrait, let's say legal size?
And only use the portion of the paper that I need?
but that would look totally weird during my pdf presentation.....
OR.... do I create individual Indesign Documents, setting the size as necessary for the content.
Convert them to jpgs, and then simply insert them as images into my slideshow????

Yes, I think I am mocking up.
I think part of my problem is that I'm doing 2 different things at once:
1. creating mock-ups to save as jpgs, to insert as images at a website - either the full thing (shrunk down) or a cropped portion of it
The website is demonstrating what a possible web application would look like and do
2. creating a pdf slideshow presentation, to show people in person, more detail of what the application would look like and feel like.
Based on both of your responses, I think I'm best served by creating separate documents, and creating a book.
So the question is:
can I stay working in inches, since that's more comfortable for me?
or am I better served to do the learning curve, and work with 1024x768?
