External track pad freezes

I have a brand new macmini and a brand new track pad.  For whatever reason the trackpad randomly freezes.  Sometimes it just starts working again after a few seconds other times I have to close the program I am in - mostly firefox - to get the thing working again.  I have read many threads; however, many seem to deal with trackpads on laptops and not external trackpads.  I have seen many suggestions to turn off "ignore accidental input" however, I don't have that option - at least that I can find - on an external trackpad.
Any thoughts would be appreciated except using a hammer - already thought of that one but it usually doesn't work.  (Believe me I have tried in the past)
Thanks in advance

I purchased a blackberry 8520 in November 2009 and for the last week or so, the tracker pad constantly freezes. I am unable to scroll through the menu options, which is very frustrating. Its quite temperamental as it will work for about 5 minutes and then not work at all for hours. Does anybody have a solution please , is it the software or a physical problem? It should still be under warranty but this is highly inconvenient. thankyou x

  • Track pad freezes and phone locks up

Why does the track pad freeze and then the phone locks up? It takes over 24 hours for it to reset.

That isnot normal. How much free memory do you have?  look in Options and te "memory" in the search bar.  Look for the number next to Application Memory.
Also, do you have any 3rd party applications installed?

  • Mouse, Keyboard and Track pad Freezes

After upgrade to Lion everytime my iMac goes to 'Sleep', the mouse, keyboard and track pad freezes and cannot wake the computer up. After waking the computer with the power button on the back, these devices still will not response or work. I know there is a option in the Bluetooth system pref. to check 'Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer". Make no difference to me when this is checked. Anybody have the same problem as me?

    I'm facing a very similar problem .
My MBP keyboard freezes eventually during the day - sometimes for a minute, sometimes for much more than that. Mouse continues to work just fine.

  • Track Pad Freeze

I placed an online order from apple.co.nz for a Macbook Pro Core i5 on the 16th of April 2010.
The Macbook Pro was delivered to me on the 20th April 2010.
I turned the Macbook Pro on and entered in the required details.
The Macbook Pro then loaded into MAC OSX.
I used the Macbook Pro form 5 minutes and found that the trackpad had locked up and was unable to move the mouse or click.
I rang apple support and the instructed me to turn off the Macbook Pro.
They told me to hold down a combination of keys to do a hardware reset, and then to turn the Macbook Pro back on.
The Macbook Pro track pad worked for another 5 minutes and I again rang apple support, again they instructed me to turn the Macbook Pro off and hold down another combination of keys.
I then turned the Macbook Pro on, and the track pad worked for 5 minutes then failed once again.
I again rang apple support who know wanted to see if it was a hardware or software problem.
I was instructed to boot the Macbook Pro from the Mac OSX dvd. The Mac OSX install started and after 5 minutes the trackpad failed again.
Apple support said it was a hardware fault and that I had to take it to a apple service depot.
I took the Macbook Pro to the apple service technician on the 21st of April, and they said they would order the parts in and let me know when it would be ready to pick up.
I waited till the 26th of April and heard nothing from the apple service tech. So I called. He said the part hadn’t arrived yet. Again I had to wait.
I got a call from the apple service tech on the 27th April saying that Apple had told them that there are no parts available and that I would have to arrange with apple to return the Macbook Pro and arrange a replacement. They said I had to come and pick the Macbook Pro up and organise it all myself.
So I picked up the Macbook Pro on the 27th April and rang apple. They said that a courier can be scheduled to pick it up on the 29th of April. I said that I will be away on that day and asked if I could drop it into the courier depot. They said that I cannot do this. I asked if they could pick it up on the 28th, again apple said that this was not possible. They said for me to pick a date for pick up so I said the 3rd of May and the apple employee said that it was all booked in, I asked for an expected time for pickup, they said between 8am and 6pm... and that was all they could tell me, and I had to be there to sign something.
So the 3rd of May was yesterday, I wasted a whole day of waiting for someone to pick the package up, and no one came.
For starters, the Macbook Pro should have been in full funtioning order when it arrived, and now I have been waiting 2 weeks for something to be done with the defective device. The fact that they are being so slow and difficult when I am just trying to get a working Macbook Pro.
    WHAT CAN I DO!!!!!
I again contacted apple asking why no one had picked the package up, no answers!
I now have to wait another 2 days for it to be picked up....

    I have this issue also.
I have a 2008 MacBook Pro. It's worked flawlessly since but in the last few weeks the trackpad freezes randomly. Only way to get the mouse back is to fold the screen down and reopen. Then everything is fine.
    I'm also running OSX 10.6.3

  • Macbook Pro keyboard and track pad freeze

I have tried about 15 times now to post this due to the following problem
Today my keyboard and track pad have suddenly frozen. In appears as if the OS is fine and running but I can't input any kind of key or cursor movement. I have to restart it. Is this common? It's bad news because I have work to do and I can't just get used to using the save command every 30 seconds. That's why I switched to Apple; I was sick of this and similar issues with PCs. Anyone. . . Ideas??

This happened twice to me in the last five months. I had to take it in for service; the first time, they replaced the keyboard, and the second time, they replaced the entire logic board. The problem hasn't come back so far.
If you need the computer urgently, it should work if you plug in an external keyboard and mouse. However, I think you'll probably have to take it in for service in order to get the problem fixed.

  • Track pad freezes

When I use my trackpad, I increasingly frequently find it freezes.
I turn it on first thing in the morning and leave it to sleep when I'm not using my desktop, and it seems to happen most often soon after I have come back to my computer after I have been away from it for a while.
I have to switch it off, and then on again, to get it working.
Can someone explain why it happens, please . . . and how to cure it !

    Hi
I'm using the trackpad with my iMac desktop 10.9

  • Mac Book Pro - Mouse and Track Pad Freeze

I left my mac book pro asleep for a few hours, everything had been working fine. When I returned it would not wake up so I restarted it.
It makes the chime and comes to the password page as per normal. Then I cannot move the mouse and the keyboard does not work. Also impossible to select Caps lock (light does not come on)
    Things I have tried:
    PRAM
    Safe Start Up Mode
    Attaching external keyboard and mouse
Restarting holding down ctrl, apple and power key
No luck with any of the above.
    Any ideas.
    Thanks in advance!

It's not completely clear if you are using an external USB mouse. Some people use the term "mouse" for the clicker bar so I want to make sure I understand how you are set up instead of guessing.
If you are not using an external mouse, remove the battery and inspect it for bulging or other deformation. That can put upward pressure on the underside of the trackpad assembly and take it down, often taking the built-in keyboard with it.

  • My iMac keyboard and track pad freeze up

My iMac keyboard and trackpad freeze up on occasion.

I deleted the mouse by selecting it in the bluetooth options and clicking the minus tab. I went ahead and reinstalled OS X right afterwards. Right now I am having to use a USB mouse and keyboard. I disconnected both prior to start up. I get a widow that shows a demonstration on how to install batteries into a wireless mouse only way to pass that screen was to reattach the USB mouse. Then with a fresh startup no resolve.

  • Macbook Pro keyboard and track pad freezes after a day or two of using bluetooth Magic Mouse

The first time this happened I thought my 3 y/old 17" Macbook Pro had died. The mouse cursor had frozen to the top left of the screen and the keyboard was also frozen and no matter what I did it didnt unfreeze. Even restarting. I searched extensively online and the only solution offered was to re install the system software.
The next day I took it into work, opened it ip there and the cursor and keyboard was working again.
This led me to believe there was a conflict with my recently purchased Magic Mouse and/or bluetooth.  Even though I had been using the mouse for well over 3 weeks with no problem.
I resumed using the Magic Mouse with the computer for another week and then the keyboard/trackpad froze again. The Magic Mouse remained active.  This time, I took the batteries out of the mouse and took the computer downstairs. After a couple of hours everything is working fine again.
Has anyone had this experience and knows how to fix? Or am I resigned to using a wired mouse?

I have never encountered anything similar. However, try resetting the PRAM and SMC.

  • Mac Book Pro 15inch i7 - Keyboard and track pad lockup/freeze/stop working

    Hi Everyone,
I am new to the forum and have bought my first Macbook pro about 2 weeks ago.
I have been using Macs for years at work but never had my own until now.
The problem I am facing is a little concerning since the machine is only 2 weeks old.
When it wakes from sleep, the keyboard or track pad simply dont work, so I am unable to enter my password to gain access to the machine.
Another strange thing I noticed if I click APPLE and then ABOUT THIS MAC.
    Nothing happens.
Is there anything I can do to repair this or run a diagnostic of some sort?
An external wacom tablet plugged in works and a mouse too, but the internal track pad and keyboard does not, on waking from sleep mode.
Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you
    Bobby

to anyone looking for a solution to the problem of the Macbook Pro keyboard and trackpad not working freezing or locking up. here is a rather through issue.
    http://gigaom.com/apple/the-curious-case-of-the-missing-macbook-pro-keyboard-and -trackpad/
After paying nearly £2000 for a machine that is starting to give me problems, I feel like I would rather return it and get my money back, until this problem is addressed.
With so many people having this problem for over 2 years, Apple has done nothing about it.
I had the impression Apple was always really quick to respond to hardware flaws.
Any tips on what I should do? I am still in my 90 day warranty...

My old 17" MBP (2005) often crashes, freezes or shows grey screen at start up. Also track pad often does not work. I have re fomatted the HD and reinstalled system but to no avail. Genius bar says possible faulty HD, but I suspect logic board. All checks out OK on the Apple Diagnostic bench. Can a Logic board go intermittant?? Any Ideas any body??

Ive repaired 1000s of laptops over the years (translate: diagnose and replace parts).
Its not that old, Ive owned 100s of laptops (most were free) ....some I still have are nearly 13 years old and still perfect, ....some extremely expensive ones died in under a year.
other than becoming obsolete at some point, there isnt really any "will spoil on" data like Milk for solid state computer parts, ....alas.
You can have a $5000 laptop die in 4 months, and a junker one keep kicking after 10 years.... Ive seen that firsthand countless times.
Common logic dictates that "very expensive = long life" in computers,..... but all the repair people will tell you just the opposite.
I know you have a gripe, I get that all too well honestly .

  • I have recently noticed that my MacBook Pro Retina keeps freezing.  I first noticed that the track pad would not work for short periods of time.  Is anyone else having a problem?

My MacBook Pro Retina keeps freezing up.  It seems that it is happening more often as time goes on.
I first noticed that the track pad would freeze then whole computer would completly freeze.
    Most annoying.
Is anyone else having a similar problem?

    Hey B-bram,
For issues with video resolution not being consistent, I would start with resetting the NVRAM on your MacBook Pro. That will reset the resolution to its default as well as resetting other default settings like sound volume and start up volume. Take a look at the article below for more information about that and how to perform the NVRAM reset.
How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac
