External video clips

I'm interested in creating a video portfolio with Flash Catalyst, but don't want to have to embed all the video files and end up with a giant swf.  Is there any way to keep the videos as separate flv's and simply link them to play within the FC project?
Thanks for any input.

Hi!!
I also include videos in one of my sessions and my project weighing already 7 megs (without videos), I wonder if include video of 25 megs is a good idea.
Does the video loads individually after clicking on it OR the video loads during the project opening?
Thank you for your time,
Max
* Of course, my objective would be to link my project to some youtube videos but i didn't found how.

  • New MacBook Air: Video clips I've shot don't show up from my external hard drive

Bought the smaller Mac Air for international travel, intending to use the an external for all the video I edit.
Brought an older external drive (last used last year on an overseas trip) with back-ups of lots of video clips there.
I want to mix my old video and my new, but I open up files with names like, "Do not delete, these are your favorite photos and video clips", that I saved last year, and they only have photos in them.
There is more than one file, that I was expecting to find important video in, that is empty.
WTH?  Are the videos hidden somehow?
If so, how do I find them?

Hi rockstardeb, Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You shouldn't try dragging it, rather use Migration Assistant in your Utilities folder and choose "Transfer my data from another partition".

  • How do I save my video clips/events to an external hard drive with the newest version of iMovie?

I used to be able to drag the video clips in to my external hard drive once importing them with the older version of iMovie.  Now I'm unable to do so with the newest version.  How do I backup my video clips with the newest version of iMovie?

    Hello tronsonation,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you want to be using an external hard drive to store your iMovie data, then all you need to do is move your iMovie library to the external drive.  To learn more about this, please review the information in the link below.

  • Cannot Access video clips from external hard drive

I have been using PE9 for six to nine months.  My normal workflow has been to create a separate project file on a 500g external HD. This file includes all video clips (.mov files) and the Project.PREL file.
This worked great until just recently.  I can no longer bring the .mov clips in the project timeline or sceenline from the hard drive.  Using the “Get Meda” command only an “imcomplete” file is uploaded, and when I try to drag the clip to the timeline, the program is asking me where the file is. Something has changed – and I am not sure what or how to fix it.
The image above is from a project where I am having this problem.  The clips that have images in them are uploaded from my laptop hard drive.  Other others are from my external hard drive - and those are the ones that the program cannot "locate".  This is what I am trying to understand how to fix.  Again, this just suddenly started happening - so somehow I have changed something, I would think.
The same clips can be imported when they are stored on my hard drive.  When I try to import them when stored on a video card, the PRE Video Importer opens and I can bring them into the program this way.  However, these are not viable work-arounds for me.
So what has changed – I cannot determine.  Is there some setting, codec, or something that I can investigate that would cause this? As I said, this only started happening?
Also, some past projects open correctly and some cannot find the files – even though they are all stored on the same 500g HD.
    Please Help.

For instructions on how to do things in Windows, search http://search.microsoft.com/search.aspx?mkt=en-US&setlang=en-US
I don't know the exact search words you should use... maybe something like
    removeable drive letter
    or
    set drive letter
    or
    set usb drive letter
Set it to a letter that you are sure is otherwise NOT used... ie, something other than a camera and/or memory stick you connect via USB

  • Want to store video clips on external hard drive

I have an external hard drive that would be great for storing video clips (as opposed to using my Mac's HD space). When I import video from my camera I use a firewire cable (4pin-9pin). The problem is that the Mac only has one 9-pin connection, so I have to unplug my external hard drive. Do I just need to import the clips onto my Mac HD and then copy them to the external hard drive, or is there another way? My external hard drive has a USB 2.0 connection, a Firewire 400 and 2 Firewire 800 connections.

You should be able to plug your camera directly into one of the FW 800 ports on the hard drive. As you have 2 FW 800 ports on the drive, the other port can still be used as a "permanent" connection to your Mac. This should work quite seamlessly. FireWire drives can be "daisy chained", normally with no untoward issues. However, Canon cameras have been known to cause problems, as they prefer to be the only device using the FW connection.
I've done this numerous times with my older Sony miniDV camcorder when using iMovie HD 6, but have not tried it with iMovie '09, mainly because I'm now importing AVCHD video through one of the MacBook Pro's USB ports.
Note that when you import your clips from the camera, iMovie will ask what location you wish to store the clips. Here you can nominate your external FW drive. iMovie will place the clips in a folder named iMovie Events on that drive.

  • How to copy/export a video clip from event library to external hard drive?

Can you help? Can you export a video clip from the iMovie Event library to a hard drive

You can "daisy chain" FireWire devices. Plug your IF into the Mbook, and plug your external disk into the IF (it has two ports...), or do it the other way around, whatever seems to work best.
The whole chain will be as fast as your slowest device, and I think the FPod is FW 400, so the disk will also operate at that speed. Many people work like this on their laptops, and it works fine. Better than USB.
Don't use USB for it. USB needs CPU and is in general less efficient in handling audio. Daisychaining FW-devices is the way to go.
    regards, Erik.

  • When I go to create a new project in imovie using the iPhone 5, I am not able to see any of my video clips or photos that are saved on the device.

When you move or copy the compound clips with their events into an external drive all the events should be there. Not clear on why you want to move them into a single event. You can drag and drop from one event to another.
Why are you using compound clips? You can simply copy the project from each machine with used media onto the external drive and that should do it.

  • How do I get home video clips from iMovie Mac to iMovie iPad?  Surely there is some degree of cross-compatibility?  I have a load of clips in iMovie on my MBP that I wanna download to my iPad2 so that I can edit movies on the move.  Any ideas?

How do I get home video clips from iMovie Mac to iMovie iPad?  Surely there is some degree of cross-compatibility?  I have a load of clips in iMovie on my MBP that I wanna download to my iPad2 so that I can edit movies on the move.  Any ideas?  (The clips are in a .mov format, they have been imported / converted into this format in iMovie, original files were from a JVC camcorder in some other strange format.)

I copied the iTunes file from the external drive and it's in both places.  I thought all I would need is the iTunes program (which I downloaded to new computer) and my iTunes library file.  There must be something else that's missing.  My iTunes library looks the same on the new computer as it does when I open it on the external drive.  If I click on an iTunes library song from my new computer, it will only play if I have the external drive plugged in.
My back-up drive is a mess.  I have multiple copies of music, video, photo, and document files and I don't know how that happened. ={  Obviously, I don't know how to back up stuff properly and there are back-up files extending over a 6- to 8-year period.  I think all I did was just drag and drop the main folders from the back-up drive to the same main folders on the C: drive.  Also (and I'm kind of fuzzy on this) Windows used to automatically save music files in a folder within my document files (which makes no sense to me).  As my Jewish friends would say, "Oy Vey!"

  • HOW TO CAPTURE DIGITAL VIDEO CLIPS, OPTIONALY WITH WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER

I want to capture video clips and save them on disk, when a certain event occurs. If possible I prefer to do it with labview only. Optionaly to execute a record command on windows movie maker, save with arbitrary file name, and go back to standby mode for the next clip.

Do you have a camera along with the IMAQ hardware? Then, the easiest way is probably using the IMAQ VIs to acquire frames and create avi files out of them. There is some example code on how to grab images using the imaq hardware.
    http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/niepd_web_display.display_epd4?p_guid=B45EACE3E1DB56A4E034080020E74861&p_node=DZ52490&p_source=external
Generating the avi files is fairly straightforward once you know how to acquire images. Lookup the help on the "IMAQ AVI" VIs.
If you have a camera hooked up through USB, you can try the documentation on the following link. I have never used labview with usb cameras though.

  • Need help on how to a user can control a video clip using their mouse

    I need help. I've got a video clip of a rotating 3D
object(left to right) and i would like the user to be able to
control the rotation of the object using their mouse. I've looked
everywhere and i'm at a lost. Can anyone help me
Here is a link to what i'm trying to achieve:
    http://www.sun.com/servers/blades/6000/gallery/index.xml?p=1&s=2
I know they use Java but i'm sure this can be done in Flash.
    Thanks
    Ray

    Here are the instructions...
    Update firmware with DOS CD
To boot from CD you have to hold down the option key (<alt>) during startup. A HDD icon and a CD should appear on the gray screen. The HDD has the volume name written below and the CD is named Windows. Select the CD and boot to DOS.
Hit <ESC> to skip the README.TXT
Use PG UP/DOWN keys on an external keyboard to scroll through the readme, using arrow keys may lock DOS.
SeaFlash offers some options you should explore before performing the update. If you just want to do it ASAP then hit <D>.
Hit <L> to list compatible drives and FW version. (Column New FW version should state SD24, hit <ESC> to go back to main menu.)
Hit to scan your drive(s). (Shows your model and FW, <ESC> for main menu)
Finally hit <D> to update your Momentus XT to SD24. (takes about 15s to update)
    Power off your Mac.
-- Although it did made sense to what you are saying to just follow Seagate's instructions. But they only had instructions outside the realm of MS Windows is to burn it on a disk and run a cold boot to the disk drive. Otherwise if Seagate did provide detail instruction on how to install this then can you provide me a link?
    Thanks again....

  • TS1846 external video all frames

When I'm editing my video in Final Cut Pro 7, the external video Video freezes, I only hear the audio. To try to solve, I click on View> External Video> Refresh A /V Devices and nothing changes. Canvas in the program, the video runs normally.

Freezing or skipping during playback can be caused by any number of things, or by a combination of things:
    1. Using media that doesn't work natively in FCP.  Video formats like H.264 (and many others) should be converted prior to importing.  Look in FCP's list of Easy Set Ups to see which formats are native to FCP.
    2. Effects added to clips exceed your system's real time capabilities.  Render the Sequence fully then try playback again.
    3. Storing media on the boot drive or a USB drive.
    4. Having less than 20% free space on the capture scratch volume and especially on your boot (system) drive.
    5. Playing the Timeline with the Canvas window set larger than 100% or "Fit to Window," whichever fits best without scroll bars.
    6. Having too many overlays activated in the Canvas window (Range Check, Title Safe, etc).
There may be other contributing factors as well, but those are the most common causes.

  • External video doesn't play but only shows still frame (some times).

When trying to view a clip or sequence on my external video monitor (NTSC via firewire through Sony converter box) and only for some of my projects, I cannot get the video to play. It displays a single frame and then updates when I stop playing a clip on the desktop. I've selected "all frames" in the External video option, but I cannot get it to play real time. This only happens with certain clips or sequences. Any ideas what's up?

I've been having this same issue. I'm pretty sure it has to do with one of my sequence settings. I have no issues when I'm playing back an SD project but when I try to playback an HD project to an SD monitor I encounter thsi problem where it stays locked on the last frame I paused at. I'm using a Blackmagic Decklink Extreme HD and attempting to playback over composite.
    Thanks

  • Frozen when view on external video monitor HELP

Hi everyone, I have just finished my biggest project in 3 months. Thankx for all your helps & I love the MULTICAM feature very much.
Now i'm on the second project. This project was shot on DigiBeta PAL.
To make it short: does anyone has a frozen picture as they play it out to the external video monitor for the uncompress 10bit file?
3months ago when I digitized in as uncompress 10bit , fcp play out to external monitor FINE, including the multicam feature.
However, since I need to work with 10cam at the same time, I have to capture in as DV (my source was DVCAM) so fcp can play all 10cam in multiclip mode. everything went perfect.
TOday, I capture my sources both NTSC & PAL, they can only play in the mac monitor but not the external video monitor. feeding out to external monitor make the clips freeze. the picture is frozen but the audio still playing.
My drives are fast enough since we had been working with these MEDEA drives for years.
    thank you so much.

thankx for all your helps but I had tried all those before I post the question. I'm no newbie. It must be FCP's bug. I trashed the pref & select 8bit instead of 10bit for viewing, & it play ok for single clip. On multiclip, it shutter alittle bit. Maybe I need to reinstall fcp. Don't know yet.
    thankx

The Nokia 3720 classic is a IP54 level water,
Not even close to good enough, LCD screen will crack, water will go in through the jack/charger ports..
The phone i describe has no external ports just 4-5 little pins which can't let water in or out of the device, the docking station will connect via these 4 - 5 pins for data transfer and recharging...., IPX8 standard, all the electronics are epxoyed with a glue to stop real bad shocks from drops and bangs, along with a silicon case and all the other preventative meausres means this little phone is going to outlive you.
in combination with heart rate external bluetooth connection, really what more could you want... only the Sonim comes close in terms of perfection but if it managed to pack all of above, then it would be simply wow... I don't think there's enough people who work for nokia who actually go camping, backpacking, hiking, i'm pretty sure that if i told them one day
on a holiday you might drop your phone into the swimming pool, ok fine it's a mistake but damn, there goes your $$$$ N7 or N900 or even a HTC or Iphone.... not this, you'd yell to the first person you see in the pool, hey mate can i have my phone back, don't worry about the water damage, i'll get it back on insurance after a small lie stopping the person from running off with it (in fear of the now useless mobile phoned killed by water, making an attempt to steal be useless)
The person gets their phone back and carries on about his day, it drops out of your pocket, how many times you ran over it because you happened to leave it behind the back tire. oh no i ran over my phone, the tough casing and the epoxy keeping it nice and safe, except for superficial damage cosmetic, the screen and phone should be working still able to make that call or send out GPS info....
Sorry nothing comes close by any company (except Sonim) in terms of what they can do... maybe even a portable charger turn it to recharge like on LED dynamos. nah maybe not.

  • In the iMovie 11 event library, how can I get the iPhoto video clips to combine with my camcorder pics listed below and in chronological order?

In the iMovie 11 event library, how can I get the iPhoto video clips to combine with my camcorder pics listed below and in chronological order?

Try forcing iPhoto to load the Library on the External Hard drive by launching it while holding down the Option key. Choose the Library on the External HD, and quit iPhoto, see if iMovie can see the Library with the iPhoto Videos contained inside.
