External Video Playback

In Final Cut Pro 6 I was able to playback my timeline directly through the fire wire port to a local tv network by choosing <view> <external video>.  In this way I was able to essentially stream video - real time - through  an rf modulator to all the TVs in the building.  Essentially, I want to play my video out through the fire wire port.  I am unable to find a way to do that in FCX.  Any ideas?

Hi Tom,
Do you have any idea why they would eliminate that feature...more importantly, do you have any ideas how I can stream my video from my firewire port?
Thanks for your feedback.

  • No external video playback on 24' LED Display

    Hi,
I'm having a problem using my 24' LED mini display port Cinema Display as my external video monitor with my macbook. I have trashed prefs, switched from all to single frames and back. Refreshed connections. Started new projects. etc.... All I get is the frame that I pause on from the viewer on the display but no actual playback except scrubbing. I'm using Final Cut (6) Studio 2. I have started from scratch many times and no success. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

Sorry but I'm not trying to bump this but I can't find the solution anywhere. Motion and Livetype uses the second display in sync with no problems. FCP6 which once worked fine under this setup now only allows either the viewer to play or the monitor to play playback. They will not play together as they once did. Is anyone else with this setup having the same issue?
    Macbook Pro (late 2008)
    Final Cut Studio 2
24' LED Display (as external video monitor)
When single frame is selected viewer plays back only, all frames LED display playback only. I'm almost certain this is due to an update because this worked just yesterday and nothing has changed except the OS update. Like I said motion and the other studio programs use the LED display for synced playback from the viewer just fine. FCP is the only problem. Its not the end of the world and I can switch back and forth or break out my AJA IO but I liked the way it worked. Anyone?

  • External Video Playback Problem

When viewing material in the source viewer playback on my external monitor randomly freezes. The playback on my edit display is fine, only the external playback has issues. This started happening after upgrading to 7.
Content is DV and timeline and external display set to match.
    Using ATI Radeon X1900 XT.

HELP... My external video freezes when ever I use my external 1920x1080 monitor. Everything was fine prior the upgrade to FCP 7.0.1 or maybe even 7.0 The previous thread said this is a known issue. Do you have any links to Apple addressing this problem or is Apple aware there is a problem? It started happening to my system back in middle of 2009. I thought the solution would be to upgraded my video card from a 256 NVIDIA P345 to ATI RADEON 1900 with 512 ram. This made it less jerkey but the problem is still very hard to live with. Can anyone shed some light on this issue? Thanks in advance.

  • FCP External Video Playback problem with HDV

Hey all. I just got the Canon HV30 HD camcorder and it is excellent. I am able to import the HDV footage to FCP no problem. I'm recording in 24p mode by the way.
I can't seem to get playback from the timeline back to the Canon so I can see the edited footage on the Camcorder's LCD screen. I've tried everything. All the settings seem to be grayed out. How am I suppose to get my edited footage from the computer back to tape? Help is much appreciated!
    Greekappi

I'm not the person at our facility that does this, but we do it all the time. However we are using the Sony HDV decks, 25U or something like that.
I have also seen the stuttering video you described, I'm not sure why it does this on some projects and not others, it is very random. When it does stutter I render out a complete self contained Quicktime and then print to tape from that. However, I occasionally still have this problem with that? But it does seem to help more often than not.

  • NO options in external video playback

Okay, so I am using FCP 6 and I have a dual monitor set-up. I used to be able to go to the view tab, select the video source, and select play in all frames. that was before I updated to TWO apple cinema displays. I don't remember if I had been using two ADC's or one ADC and one ACD when it used to work. but I am sure that it previously did work. they are both connected and work fine. when I plug a camera into firewire the options do show up. Am I missing something? It's really frustrating to know that I used to be able to do it and now cannot. I have tried everything I could think of Please help, I would really appreciate it.

Right, that's exactly what I thought and when I plug in a camera I can get the firewire options. However without a camera I have NO options. Not for the main screen or secondary monitor. It's very frustrating because I feel like I've tried everything.
Please help. and thank you for your suggestion

  • External Video Problem

Macbook Pro (late 2008) connected to 24' LED Display. Final Cut Pro Studio 2. Final cut A/V settings for external video to LED display. Mirror on desktop checked. LED display is connected and black but I get no playback in the display. All frames, single frames, nothing. When I use motion and the LED display is selected as my external video, playback is perfectly synced in the viewer and display. All other programs allow me to use the LED display as my monitor except FCP. Why? I posted this before but got no answer. I have searched and searched. DVcreator.net, creativecow.net. etc....Nobody seems to know why I am not getting external playback in my LED display. I have trashed prefs, I have reinstalled the entire box set. Nothing. Anyone have any idea?
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, it is a computer monitor (like I said Apple 24' LED Display) but its not DVI. The new Macbooks have that new mini display port. That is how it is connected. These new LED monitors were designed specifically for the new macbooks. You are correct about the " Digital Desktop Preview" part BUT a second display can be used as an external monitor via the external video settings (as long as you monitor audio from the built in audio). I have an AJA IO and I use that with my G5 edit bay and I am currently looking into the new Matrox MXO2 for my Macbook but the point is this works but only when I do as I said in my last reply. If I was editing video for NTSC viewing, of course I would use an I/O and monitor it on a NTSC monitor but considering a bulk of my editing is for the web and 720p, why not use a second display for monitoring? This is how I have gotten playback so far,
create new project, select "Digital Cinema Desktop Preview-Full Screen", import a video file that does not match the sequence settings. When I drag a clip to the timeline, choose NOT to change sequence settings to match the clip when it pops up. Then render the clip and I get synced playback in the viewer and LED display in fullscreen (but not with the preview slug). What is strange, if I export the rendered clip, re-import it and place it in the matched up sequence, my initial problem occurs. Unlimited RT is off (tried on as well). I have tried everything. The only reason I am **** bent on getting this to work is when I first got the computer and display, this WORKED!!! Perfectly. I imported HD mov files from an SD card and used the settings I am using now and had no problem what so ever. Then one day (only thing I can think of that changed was an OS security update) it just decided to NOT work. I believe it is a sequence/project setting problem or the fact that the media isn't logged, it is just imported. I'm trying to make a custom setting to fix this but no luck at the moment yet. If someone has the exact same setup as me please tell me you have the same problem and I don't have a hardware issue.....hmmmm In fact, I'm going to switch to the other lesser internal video card and see if that works.

  • Video playback on external monitor

I have a problem with video playing on my external monitor.
I have been editing a 30 second commercial with several split screens and quad screens. After my last render, the video no longer plays on the external monitor. A frame plays, and then it freezes. I went thru the "Stock Answers" section and played with the RT settings and the memory/cache settings. Nothing seemed to make a difference. I also opened some older projects and they will not play thru the external monitor either. Finally, another note that may offer some clues is that when you print to tape it sometimes plays perfectly and other times it does not.
Any help provided will be greatly appreciated!
    Jeremy

    Here is my standard reply:
    #8 External Monitor Viewing.
    Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

  • DV NTSC Video Playback on external monitor

I can't get my DV NTSC sequence to play on my external monitor. I know I have the computer/Canopus/external monitor connected correctly b/c I can playback some of my old Final Cut Express sequences on the external monitor. I used that as a test to make sure everything was connected properly. Since I can rule that out, I must be missing a setting in FCP somewhere?
Sequence Settings are NTSC-DV; Compressor DV/DVCPro-NTSC
View>Video Playback is set to Apple Firewire NTSC
Can anyone lead me in the right direction? Thanks.

    Hi -
Go to the menu VIew > Video Playback and select Apple Firewire (720x480):
Then go to the menu View > External Video and select All Frames:
If you don't see an image, then go to the menu View > External Video > Refresh A/V Devices, then reselect All frames.
    Hope this helps.

  • Fullscreen video playback on external monitor (overlay problem?)

I want to watch videopodcasts via iTunes fullscreen on my external Monitor/TV. It works fine with Quicktime and WindowsMediaPlayer but iTunes doesn't play my Videos in Fullscreen on my external Monitor.
I had the idea it is because the overlay mode isn't siwtched on but I can't find where to setup the display mode of video playback in iTunes.
    Can anybody help me?
    Bernd.
    PC   Windows XP

    oh, no...
i thouhght the iTunes Videoplayback would rely on Quicktime and thus it would be possible.
    isn't there any other possibilty?

  • No video playback on external monitor

I'm using a open-source radeon supported card with an external monitor on my laptop.  When I run a merged framebuffer setup I can see video playback on both screens fine but I just want to use the external.  However, if I don't use mergedfb I only see a black window during video playback.
I'm sure I have had it working in the past, though on a diff monitor but I am certain that if mergedfb playback AND TV-out playback then this must be doable and I am doing something dumb!
My xorg.conf is here, I've tried quite a lot of things but I am stumped atm.

OK, I thought the solution was:
    Option "OverlayOnCRTC2" "on"
But apparently that is deprecated and I need to use:
    xvattr -a XV_SWITCHCRT -v 1
How and when would you guys run this command?

  • Video playback on external monitor working. Only works when Print to Video

I'm having a problem. I'm using FCP 5. When editing, my video playback is not showing up on my external monitor (Sharp MiniDV camcorder). It does however show up on the external monitor when I "Print to Video." This is the first time using FCP 5. I never had this problem with previous versions of FCP. Can anyone tell me whats going on? Thanks

  • No video playback to external FS device 6.03

Hello. I have read all the posts about not seeing video playback on my external device (TwinPact 100/FW). I can see the current frame on my external monitor so I know the connection is good. But the image does not scroll when I playback from the timeline - it only updates on the external monitor when I stop playback.
    Any suggestions? 10.5.3
Thanks very much for the help.
    D.

Well I noticed that they had been reset when I trashed the Prefs.. was showing PAL. But I reset to NTSC/DV and then the external monitor should Unrendered. So then I rerendered the projcxt and same problem - no playback to the external.
    To be specific:
    720 x 480
    NTSC CCIR 602
    Field: none
    Compressor DV/DVpro
Very frustrating. Would footage normally need to be rendered to show on the external? Ans must the compressor by DV for it to show? I normally work uncompressed (as the project will end up on DVD).
    Thanks for the help.

  • Slow Video playback on external monitor

I'm having a problem with video on an external monitor drifting out of sync. The video plays back slow on the monitor but the sound come through fine and the video is playing at a normal speed in FCP. This is only happening with video from FCP, I can play a clip in Color and there's no drift. I've opened the project on another mac and there's no problem. Also, if I set the external video play back to 10 bit the drift is worse than if it is set to 8 bit, as in a 15 sec clip takes 19 secs to play back on the external monitor at 10 bit and 18 secs in 8 bit (not exact times). I've reinstalled AJA LHe control panel and drivers, but seeing as this isn't happening in Color it seems like it must be a FCP issue. I've trashed the FCP prefs (along with AJA and quicktime), what could this be?!?

what video capture card are you using??
have you set render all to FULL, and have you rendered??

  • Video playback on external monitor only producing still frame

I am trying to use a HD TV as a playback device as managed to get it to work, however it has now stopped working and only produces a still frame. When I hit play it will play fine in the timeline but display only a still frame on the second monitor. I have made sure that the settings under video playback are set to full screen and that mirroring is turned off.
Even when I play back on Main the image on the main monitor only displays a still frame until the second monitor is unplugged.
    Am I missing something?

    How is the TV connected?
If via firewire and an analog/DV converter, are you feeding the HDTV something other than a DV signal? If so, it won't work.

  • When sending sequence to DVD or Print To Tape, resulting video is terrible.  Audio OK.  Canvas playback is fine, but external video bad.  First time this has happened.

I've tried making a DVD via DVD SP, also Print To Tape and the results are inferior video.  Audio is OK.  Everything plays back fine in canvas. But external video results very low quality.  First time I've had this happen and I've looked through all the settings I can find -- no clue as to what may be happening here. Any help greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

I'm working with FCP 7.  The resulting video, exported either to DVD SP or via Print To Tape, is poor.  This is an HD sequence, converted to DV.  I've done this many times before with fine results.  What I'm currently seeing is not from the conversion.  Are there are any settings/prefs that might be at fault?
