External video view doesn't always show anamorphic

It's really weird, when I look at my output video from the external monitor through my DV or TV connected to my DV, sometimes it doesn't show it as anamorphic or with the letterbox but sometimes it does on the same sequence that I'm editing. What am I missing?

well, it's not like that, what I meant was, the sequence was set to anamorphic and all the clips were shot in anamorphic, but when playing the sequence and watching it on my DV screen, the exact same sequence sometimes shown in 4:3 and sometimes shown as anamorphic, sometimes when I restart FCP, it'd be all fine but sometimes it won't. Like just now, I'm working on the sequence, everything in anamorphic, when I play it the first time, it's perfectly fine everywhere, but when I play it the second time (I didn't touch anything on the sequence), although it's fine on the FCP canvas, it's showing 4:3 without the letterbox on my DV screen. Did I miss something? Any help would be great.

We are trying to play playlists and a slideshow from an Apple Macbook wirelessly to the Apple TV. Mail icon in dock doesn't always show that a new mail has arrived

Hi,
I have a Tiger installation at work that doesn't always show when a new mail has arrived and I can't figure out why. The Mail icon in the dock doesn't change before you maximize the Mail app.
Does anyone in here know how to fix it, or is it a known bug in Tiger (10.4.3) ?

First of all, Mail must be opened to see the number of new messages in the Mail icon. Have you checked if it's opened?
If it's opened, open Mail app, go to Mail menu > Preferences > General, and check that, in "Dock unread count", it's selected the option you need

Since FF31 bookmarks toolbar doesn't always show on startup. Corrected per session by disable (then re-enable) via View- Toolbars- Bookmarks Toolbar

The above problem only occurs occasionally on startup. Bookmarks Toolbar reappears after disable/re-enabling (as outlined in question) but its occasional absence is annoying.

You can check for problems caused by a corrupted localstore.rdf file.

The current Firefox releases store the toolbar customization in the browser.uiCustomization.state pref, so it is possible that there is a problem with the preferences.
You can check for problems with preferences.
Delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

Note that Windows hides some file extensions by default.
Among them are .html and .ini and .js and .txt, so you may only see file name without file extension.
You can see the real file type (file extension) in the properties of the file via the right-click context menu in Windows Explorer.

Text doesn't always show up?

Texts always make my iPhone but not always iPad. How do I make sure always gets to both?

You might be seeing the effects of the anti-aliasing that PSE applies to the label text. If your photos are being displayed at a radically different size and/or resolution than originally, the anti-aliasing will make the type look grey.

The Address Book Contacts doesn't always show the Titles.

Among the contacts I have, some entries do not show the title in the name field of the address book. I tested on one of them that used to show the title by removing the tiltle and saved it and then putting it back in again and saved it. From
then onwards the title no longer shows up.

JLayeredPane doesn't always show JLabel

Hi all!
I have a little problem:
I created a Timer that shows the average (media) over the big JLabel with the time (tempo).
here is some code:

timer.schedule(tt,0,9);the problem is that sometimes, when i stop the timer, the average does not appear. If i resize the window or use some command it appears.
Instead, the JLabel numeroPartita in the LayeredPane appears even when the average is not shown.
Is it because it is shown before the average is calculated?
Do you have any idea to solve this problem?

Tag Search doesn't always show "best"

I have lots of photos and have tagged these with quite a few tags.
With some combinations of tags I get "best" "close" and "not", where "best" is photos with all selected tags, and "close" is photos with one or more, but not all the selected tags.
For example, when I search for all photos with my brother in a certain town I get 2 best, which are the only photos of him in that town, and 144 close, which are a combination of photos of him in other places, and photos taken in that town, but without him in them, plus a whole stack of Not, which do not have either him or that town tagged, which is exactly how I would expect the tag search to operate.
But, when I search for the same town and "bridge", I get NO best (although my manual count tells me I should get 12) and I get 140 close, but these are all photos of bridges anywhere, AND all photos of any topic in that town. This seems like an inconsistency.
Can anyone offer any sort of expanation for this?
I hope it is not related to the size of the catalogue. Does any one know if there is a limit on the numer of photos I can put in a catalogue (I currently have 7237) and is there a limit on the number of tags (I have around 700). Photos with a lot of people in them may have more than 10 tags, One for each person, one or more for the location (eg, HOME ; Town name where photo was taken), reason for photo, (Birthday, holiday, anniversary etc. )

Something like that. I don't recall the exact details of the algorithm. As far as I can tell, it got changed later. In PSE 3 Organizer, tags seem to be independent of one another and the categories and subcategories [which may now be nested indefinitely] are just aggregates.

Hovering over links doesn't always show hover state?

After installing Firefox 7, I noticed something weird. I'm a front-end web developer, so I noticed this recently when creating custom tool-tips that appear on hover. I noticed that the hover tooltip wouldn't appear for certain links, and at first I thought I was doing something wrong on my end, but then I realized that this was happening on almost all websites.
Here's what's happening: on ''some'' links, not all, the hover state only gets activated on certain parts of the link. Hover over the green portion activates the hover state (underlining the top link), but the red portion does nothing. Some of the links work throughout, but some don't. The same goes with Google search results.
I'm running OS X Lion.
I'm wondering if it's just me or a Firefox 7 bug, can someone help/confirm?

I am having this issue as well. I am also running OS/X Lion and when the issue crops up, it is not limited to Firefox, it extends across all browsers... I have tested on Opera, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome... it happens in all of them. I believe this to be a Lion specific issue, not just Firefox.

External Video Output (in 32 Gives Me Blank Window

Just Upgraded from Logic 7 on a G5 to Logic 9 running in 32 bit on a New Mac Pro. I have 2 displays attached to the mini ports and when I select external Video Output I get a blank window and the checkbox for External Video Output doesn't stay checked. Also Apple Cinema Desktop (which is what I used to select in Logic 7 and send it to the second monitor) doesn't even show up in the list.
I know there is a problem with this in 64 bit, but it should woulk fine in 32, right?

You'll need a third party i/o device to handle the conversion for you. If you have a MacPro, the Black Magic Intensity cards (at the low end) up to the AJA Kona series cards (at the upper end) will work. Mid way are the Matrox MXO series of external boxes - most of which will work with an expresscard34 capable laptop as well.

External Video Freeze...

I know this ??? has been asked before, and I looked through and it didn't help me out. I have two apple 23" and one is used to view the external video. When I go to external video>> view all frames, video playback>>desktop preview - full screen, everything shows up as it should. I then play and it does audio but not video playback, then I stop and it's on the correct frame. Now I can scrub through it and it plays everything as is, now why can't I figure this one out??? Oh-oh? Are you sure this is true? I am planning to buy a monitor to try this thinking it was the only affordable way to get a look at the true HDV resolution when monitoring?
The FCP HD and Broadcast Formats manual has this somewhat ambiguous statement...
"Editing HDV is similar to editing other formats in Final Cut Pro. However, there are some differences: Â You cannot view native MPEG-2 HDV video on an external HDV device connected via FireWire. As an alternative, you can use the Digital Cinema Desktop Preview option."

Reader list doesn't always work

I like the reader list. It's like pocket.
The problem I have is that the icon doesn't always show up to allow me to mark an article. Like businessweek.com. Not sure why. On other sites, like IO9.com, no problem.

Because base in my experience, the icon will appear when all the webpage is completely loaded .

Pages don't always show when using cfinclude

For our site we have a page template, a shell, that we use to
display pages. It uses a cfinclude to call the page into the
template:
<cfinclude page=#url.PageName#.cfm>
The link for that page would look like:
<a href="index.cfm?PageName=contact">
However, on a number of occassions, users click a link for a
page, and get the error "page not found". If they simply hit
refresh, the page shows up without a problem. The page is there,
and it works, but it just doesn't always show until refreshed. Of
course, most users don't know to refresh, and it's a pain to do
anyway.
Any ideas why this happens? Suggested solutions?

i use cfinclude constantly with no problem... when you get
the 404 page, right click, go to properties and see what page is
being called.
i doubt this would be an issue but try dropping the "url."
from variable... (never know). i usually misspell things like
"PageName" for the same reason (never know) so would be pgName or
something. i never use common words unless i have to in variables
and db fields.
love CF but it has got tons of weird bugs that you just have
to work around.

External video doesn't play but only shows still frame (some times).

When trying to view a clip or sequence on my external video monitor (NTSC via firewire through Sony converter box) and only for some of my projects, I cannot get the video to play. It displays a single frame and then updates when I stop playing a clip on the desktop. I've selected "all frames" in the External video option, but I cannot get it to play real time. This only happens with certain clips or sequences. Any ideas what's up?

I've been having this same issue. I'm pretty sure it has to do with one of my sequence settings. I have no issues when I'm playing back an SD project but when I try to playback an HD project to an SD monitor I encounter thsi problem where it stays locked on the last frame I paused at. I'm using a Blackmagic Decklink Extreme HD and attempting to playback over composite.

External Video will only show black or current frame

Hello,
I am on an Intel Mac using FCP 5.1.2. This is my first time trying to view an external monitor using FCP, but I have done it in the past with Media 100 and Premiere.
Right now, when I try to view the Timeline or Canvas, all I am getting is the black screen not what is currently on the timeline. If I go to View > External Video > Show Current, I will get the current image, but it just stays on that, no matter what is showing on the timeline or Canvas. If I double click a clip so it opens in the Viewer, it shows that clip and stays on that as a freeze frame. I can hear the audio through my external speakers just fine.
So far I have done many searches on "external video" on this forum and looked up in all my manuals and Apple Training books, but no luck. Here's the list of all the things I tried.
My setup: MacPro > Sony TCRDV8 NTSC camcorder via firewire > camcorder to TV via audio/video cables. My external speakers are hooked up to the camcorder.
I have tried restarting FCP as well as rebooting my MacPro after connnecting everything, removed the tape from the camcorder, made sure it was on VTR.
I have also checked all the suggested Audio/Video Settings, all the things under View, like External Video, Video Playback and refresh A/V devices.
It seems odd that I can hear the video and see the current frame or other freeze frames, but it's not showing the motion on the timeline. Everything is rendered. Is my video camera too old for FCP?
I probably should not spend any more time on this but it's making crazy, I keep thinking that if I try just one more thing I will figure it out.
Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your answer. The window hanging off is a good suggestion, but still didn't work... I also tried switching my windows to the standard setting and still nothing. I've tried the window size thing before but I tried again and no luck.
In the meantime, I checked to see if Apple System Profiler sees my DV cam and it does, and even has the correct name and model number.
I wonder if it has something to do with the viewer window, it's always stuck on the same thing? Right now it's one of my movie clips. I've tried dragging the sequence to the viewer but it doesn't help. I am missing some tiny little detail?
