External Widescreen Display

Hi. I just purchased the macbook pro today. I'm hooking it up to my Toshiba Regza through DVI-HDMI. When I go to mirror mode, it will not fill the Toshiba screen fully. I've picked every option under the display mode. Is there something I am missing?
Thanks.

As stedman suggests, you now have an "extended desktop" and you just need to drag over whatever you want there. You can also go into System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement tab and drag the external display to the left or right of the internal (changes the 'side' you drag windows to), or move the little icon of the menu bar from one display to the other - that will make the external display the primary one (i.e. move the menu bar and dock to the TV).
Hope this helps...

  • Want external widescreen not internal 4:3 - but perspective is stretched...

    Hello,
I've just plugged in a new external widescreen, using the mini-VGA to VGA adaptor (btw, I know that spanning doesn't work - it only mirrors).
The external screen just loads up in the iMac's maximum resolution (1024x768) and is stretched. I want to make the perspective correct and I'm not sure how.
The only other settings in my displays are 800x600 and 640x480. I've just downloaded SwitchResX but I'm hesitant to simply make a new resolution.
    Any suggestions?!?

We know that Apple has limited the Graphics cards in the iMac G4. There is a hack called "Screen Spanning Doctor" that will re-enable all the available resolutions and allow dual-screen mode but it only works for the 1GHz 15" iMac G4 (which is a GeForce 4 MX). Applying this hack may permanently damage your iMac and will invalidate any warranty left.
This hack won't work on the GeForce 2 MX machines like yours. Here are the developer specs for your display.
Personally I would advise sticking to XGA. This is the highest you can output.

  • IBook G4 and External Widescreen LCD?

    Hi All,
I've been using the Screen Spanning Doctor successfully for a couple months, but am looking into getting a 19" widescreen LCD display (the Acer AL1916W to be exact).
Does anyone have any experience with hooking an iBook G4 up to an external widscreen display using the hack?
    Thanks,
    James

using a 24" widescreen Dell and the hack allows you to run it at the native resolution... you'll have no problems.

  • Macbook connected to a 15" TV gives a widescreen display...

I just purchased a mini-DVI to video adapter for my Macbook. I have connected to it to a good-but-not-great TV, a Panasonic 15-inch TV, about three years old. It is not HDTV, it is not widescreen. Nothing fancy. Just a normal TV with audio/video inputs.
Anyway, it works and everything, and the Macbook seems to auto-adjust itself when it senses the adapter plugged into it, however, the output on the TV is still widescreen. On the Macbook display, widescreen is fine, but on the TV, widescreen display means that I have scroll all the way to the right to see everything horizontally.
How can I make the Macbook display in 4:3 on my TV so that I don't have to scroll to the right to see everything?

Look under preferences at your display settings. You should have a separate control window for each display. Try changing the resolution for the external display/TV.

  • External Monitor display issue

The external monitor for my mac book pro displays large/wide text when both screens are open.  If I shut the laptop, the external monitor display returns to a normal view.  I tried going to system preferences, displays and it's either on best for display or in scaled, the maximum 1920 x 1080.
    Please advise.

Where is extended display mode? In display screen, the mirrored mode is checked, both displays are in 1920 x 1080, not sure what else I can do here?  BTW: it just started happening (all was normal on both screens) until I used laptop at my work and connected it to external screen (school) with VGA adaptor (at home I use a DVI).

  • Imac does not detect external vga display

Please help with connecting external vga display to an imac 21.5'', late 2012, OS X 10.8.5 via Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter.
I have connected an external monitor (Fujitsu Siemens) to the thunderbolt port of the imac using a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter. The imac does not detect the external monitor. I have followed all instructions and suggestions I could find at Apple Support Communities without success.
The monitor is in perfectly good working order as it has no problem connecting and performing flawlessly with a dell windows laptop. The imac, connected via the Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter to the D-Sub connector of a Samsung smart TV, also worked perfectly.
To add insult to injury, occasionally, when restarting the iMac with the external vga display connected and powered on, the iMac screen starts intermittently turning blue for a brief second or so and resuming back to normal. The frequency of 'blueing' is once in 2-3 seconds. This particular rather disturbing problem, luckily ceases when the external display is switched off.
Any advice and help with resolving the above connection problems will be gratefully appreciated.
    Thank you

  • Brand new macbook pro 15" when connected to external LCD display in high resolution ,flickers often

    Hi,
I have brand new macbook pro 15" with retina display.
I have connected external LCD display (Samsung B2230) using Apple VGA adaptor & thunderbolt port. But LCD display flickers quite oftenly. I read community blogs where many macbook pro users like me are facing similiar issue.
There is no problem with LCD display as it works fine with Lenova laptops.
Can anybody please provide me the solution to this problem.?

  • Optional glossy widescreen display

    re: optional glossy widescreen display.
I have my new MacBook Pro and ordered the optional glossy widescreen display. But how do I know this computer actually has the optional glossy widescreen display?

*"But how do I know this computer actually has the optional glossy widescreen display?"*
You'll be able to tell just by looking at the screen. If it has a mirror finish, then it's glossy.

  • Samsung Widescreen Display

I thinking about getting a Mac mini and I'm wondering if it would be compatible with my Samsund 940BW 19" widescreen display. I beleive the native resolution on the display is 1440x900. I'm currently using the monitor connected as second disply for my iBook and the resolution is good, but I'm wonering if it would be even better coneected to a mini. Thanks.

    Hi...!
Most people here are wrong about your iBook not getting any better resolution than 1024x768.
You can surpass that with the help of the "Screen Spanning Doctor" for iBook.
Just google for those words and you will have the possibility to use resolutions up to .. a lot!
I used my Samsung 226BW 22"-display and had 1680x1050-resolution with good performance.
But I sold my iBook and bought a Mac mini with Core Duo and I'm very satisfied with performance and graphics... I love the DVI-quality.

  • 17inch widescreen display VS 17inch high resolution display

Whats the major difference between the 17 inch matte widescreen display and the 17 inch matte high resolution display?

The standard 17 inch display is of a resolution of 1680x1050 and uses a fluorescent backlight. The high resolution display has a resolution of 1920x1200 and uses LEDs for the backlight. From a practical perspective, the high resolution display holds more on it (granted, it is all a little smaller), is slightly crisper, and has the LEDs, which will make the display a bit less power hungry, giving you better battery life.
Personally, I love having the 15 inch LED screen and would go for it on the 17 inch as well.

  • Widescreen display options

I'm in the middle of purchasing a Macbook Pro and I'm not sure whether to stick with the glossy or go with the hi res gloss or hi res antiglare. Whats the benefit of one over the other? Is the antiglare worth the extra cost? What makes it so much better than the glossy?
MacBook Pro 15-inch Glossy Widescreen Display
MacBook Pro 15-inch Hi-Res Glossy Widescreen Display [Add $90.00]
MacBook Pro 15-inch Hi-Res Antiglare Widescreen Display [Add $135.00]

It's really a matter of personal preference and what you plan to do with it. There have been some very long threads discussing the pros and cons of each kind. Some people cannot stand the reflections of a glossy display. Others feel that the antiglare display colors are more true to life. Personally, I prefer the anti-glare over the glossy, as reflections do bother me. People doing photography also often prefer the anti-glare option. You might want to do a Google search of "macbook pro glossy vs. matte" for a read on the subject.
    Good luck!

  • External LCD Display & Screen Spanning

    Hi All
I need to connect an external LCD display to my iMac G5 1st Gen computer.
Is this the right cable -
    http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukstore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=6C04E099&nplm=M 8639
Also I have been reading in this forum about a screen spanning hack to the firmware. Sounds painful but what are practical steps to set this up?
    Many thanks in advance
    David

    G'day mate
Thanks for the reply from Oz.
Just had another good look at the back of the external LCD and it has got both VGA and DVI ports on it. Which will get the best results do you think?
Also here is a dump re the graphics card in my iMac -
    GeForce FX 5200:
    Chipset Model: GeForce FX 5200
    Type: Display
    Bus: AGP
    Slot: AGP
    VRAM (Total): 64 MB
    Vendor: nVIDIA (0x10de)
    Device ID: 0x0329
    Revision ID: 0x00b1
    ROM Revision: 2103
    Displays:
    iMac:
    Display Type: LCD
    Resolution: 1440 x 900
    Depth: 32-bit Color
    Built-In: Yes
    Core Image: Supported
    Main Display: Yes
    Mirror: Off
    Online: Yes
    Quartz Extreme: Supported
    Display:
    Status: No display connected
As you can see, the card is a GeForce FX 5200. The web site refers to iMac G5's with GeForce FX 5200 Ultra cards and not the GeForce FX 5200. (My iMac is a Rev A machine).
Do you think this will cause issues? I need to run the iMac and the LCD at a show for my company and I am a bit concerned that I might end up with a Mac with no working display. Is that likely?
    Cheers
    David
