External Word Files

I am research whether or not Framemaker would be a product that suits our needs.  We would like to create a technical document, but have the majority of the files live outside of the Framemaker file in Word Docs.  This would allow my client to make easy updates to the document and allow for multiple users to edit the documents outside of Framemaker.
Can Framemaker be used to create the structure of the technical document but have most of the content live outside of Framemaker?

Frame can probably do Text Insets from Word, depending on the Word version and specific files format (.doc vs. .docx). These can then be auto-updated imported objects, just like images.
It's likely that Frame can honor or override the formatting, once you learn how the import filter is presenting the style names.
The success of the import is apt to hinge on complexity and and Word-specific features.

  • Hyperlinks to external word files convert to pdf

    Hello!
I have many Word documents (version 2007), which are linked among themselves through hyperlinks.
Now, I want to convert these documents in pdf files (Adobe Acrobat Prof. 7.0).
The problem of the pdf files are the hyperlinks: They still link to the word documents and not to the pdf files.
Now, my answer is: which is the best (and fast!!!) way to solve this problem?
    Thanks for any answer!

Hopefully someone will chime in with a link to a script or plugin for you. ;-)  I don't know of any way to do mass edits of links in Acrobat. You might try asking around the Word support forums for some sort of VBscript that can include underlying hyperlink destinations in Find/Change or something. I wouldn't be surprised if one exists already.
Maybe this free doo-dad could help, couldn't tell from the web page:
    http://www.ablebits.com/word-hyperlink-manager-addins/index.php
Otherwise, the fastest way I know of to do this manually in Word is to:
    1) Save the Word file as a web page
    2) Open the .htm file in a text editor
    3) Use that editors' Find/Change to change all refs to .doc with .pdf
    4) Open the edited .htm's in Word and save as a .doc
There are many text editors that can do batch find/changes on hundreds of files at a time; so all you'd need would be to figure out an automated way to do the .doc > .htm conversions en masse, and back again.

  • How to recover word files with readable format after formatting external hard drive?

I had tried different software. All software are able to recover word files but all word files having encoded content  is there any way to convert it in readable format?
please provide any solution for this problem
    Thank You.

Are you saying that these documents are password-protected? In that case, if you don't have the passwords, it's going to be next to impossible to open them.

  • Can't open Excel or Word files on share drive (SMB or AFP) after 10.9.2

After updating to Mavericks OS 10.9.2, I can no longer open excel or word files on my company file share.  I receive the error:
    'FILEPATH' could not be found.
Ckeck the spelling of the file name, and verify that the file location is correct.
If you are trying to open the file from your list of most frequently used files on the File menu, make sure that the file has not been renamed, moved, or deleted.
I am able to open files on my lcaol hard drive, and other external USB Flash drives.  Word present's a slightly different error, with the same theme (filename).
I've tried rebooting both the client and server (both running 10.9.2).  Was successful opening files when booting the client into safe mode.  Any ideas?

I don't know if this will help but I had a similar problem that started yesterday. I have two macs.  Once can't open MS Office files from the other Mac but can open Office files on each Mac. Drove me nuts for about 2 hours today - on the phone with Apple twice and Microsoft once.  Finally found a similar post from 2007 that suggested to turn off and on file sharing by unchecking the "Share files and folders using AFP", on both computers and rebooting. That fixed it.
Funny thing, it was only with Office files I created since updating the software last week. Old Office files opened fine.

  • Manipulating .doc (word) files in Flex 4

    Hi,
I'd like to open a .doc (word) file in Flex 4 and do many things with it. First of all, i want to know the number of pages that it has got and the amount of blank space in the last page (a percentage).
Is there any API or library that helps me to do that??
    Thank You
    Luciano.

When using Flash Catalyst to build the "front end" of my application, I am able to import
complex art work that almost bear no resemblence to the underlying component. Am I able to achieve the same results with external CSS files?

  • Maintaining internal links on Word files placed into Indesign

I want to bring a word file into Indesign, which has a very large number of internal links. When I place the file in Indesign, the external  hyperlinks transfer as well as bookmarks, but the internal links do not., The blue colour and the underlining format transfers but the actual links are lost. I don't want to re-link all these links within the document again. Is there a way to bring the internal links into inDesign with the Word file?

    Hi everyone,
I know this is from a few months ago, but I just found it!
I deal with PDFs coming from Word that have to go on press a lot. This is what I know. Word's color space is RGB, so we're already starting out with a problem.
    1. Open the Printers in the Control Panel folder
    Choose the Adobe PDF Driver
    Right click to open Properties
    Go to Device Settings
Convert gray text to Postscript gray: change this setting to Yes
Convert gray graphics to Postscript gray: change this setting to Yes
    2. When you print to Adobe PDF, choose Press Quality job options. This may only show up for those who have the full blown Acrobat installed. If you don't have this, go through all of the job options, especially Color and Fonts. In the Fonts tab, make sure that Embed is turned ON and that there are no fonts in the Never Embed column. If there are, delete them. Under Color, either leave unchanged (which is fine if your doc is all text and you've changed the settings on the driver described above), or choose "Convert Color to CMYK".
    3. Within Acrobat (not Reader), you can view separations: under Advanced menu, then Output Preview. Turn color plates off and on as desired. I usually turn off black and scroll through the file. If anything shows up on the page, I know I have something to fix. (For B&W docs.)
    4. You can fix a lot of things without having PitStop, but if you deal with having to get PDFs in shape to go on press, Pitstop is well worth the investment!
    5. I agree that it's not necessary to place PDFs into InDesign, unless there's something else you're adding to the pages.
    I hope this helps!

  • How do I store spoken word files in the Podcast category on my iPod...

I want to add some spoken word files to my iPod and store them in the Podcast section. They are not radio broadcasts and are not available through the Music Store, still there must be some way to file them where I want them.

You can delete songs from your iTunes/computer hard drive after transferring them to the iPod, and for this you need to set your iPod to manage the songs manually.
However, this is an extremely risky option because when (and not if) there comes a time to restore your iPod, which is a very common fix for iPod problems, then all the music would be erased. If you no longer have the music in iTunes (or any other back up), then all that music would be lost.
What if the iPod were lost/stolen/needed repair? Again, the music would lost. I strongly recommend a back up, and if computer hard drive space is in short supply, you should seriously consider an external hard drive. They are not expensive, and the cost is well worth it when compared to the loss of all your precious music.
At the very least back up your music to either cd or dvd before deleting it, particularly any purchased music/videos, as this would have to be bought again if it were lost. See this.
Backing up your media in iTunes.
Please excuse the sermon, but we see far too many people lose their music because of no back up.

  • When using SSL Word Files ask for username and password.

I have SharePoint Foundation 2013 setup and it works great.  I need to allow users access when they are not connected to our local network, so for testing purposes I added a domain signed certificate and assigned it to IIS on 443. Internally when
I try to access the site IE now ask me for a username and password and when I open a word file Word then ask me for a username password again. If it didn't do it in http why is it happening with https and how can I fix it?  Externally I know users will
have to login but they should have to only login in once right?

After doing some more research it seems that it is just not possible to use Windows authentication along with FQDN without being prompted for username and password in SharePoint.  Can anyone confirm this? I am sorry what a bad design of a program.
Did anyone think at Microsoft that organizations might want employees to work from outside of their network in the year 2013 using the username and passwords they already have.

however the result is the same only without having the problem of the second exception I had with the AnchorPane
I attached a picture to have some idea
Thank you very much any help and I ask an apology for the bad English.

This is the only part in my CSS file where the word left
    .table-view .column-header .label{

  • Linking to PDFs and Word Files

    Hi,
I am using FM9 and working on a long document that  comes with many external forms. The forms are in PDF and Word format. The FM files will be converted to pdf, and shipped to users in an interactive e-book format. My question is twofold:
    1) How do I link to external Word and PDF froms so they open in a new window?
    2) Is there a way to "package" the forms with the pdf deliverable so users cannot move them around and break the links?
Thanks for any insights and let me know if you need more information to answer.

To define a link to external files (non-PDFs), use the following hypertext marker:
    message openfile form123.doc
Assuming that .doc is associated with Microsoft Word on the end-user system, Acrobat/Reader will launch Word with the target file, as a separate application (no need or possibility to specify a "new window" property for links to non-PDF files).
FrameMaker does not support the other features you asked about (new window property for cross-linked PDFs or embedded PDFs), so these will have to be handled in Acrobat as a a manual post-creation step.
If you need such functionality on a regular basis and wish to automate it so that the PDF has all features/settings needed without post-creation steps, it can be done through add-ons; for additional information and sample PDFs, see:

  • Does an external cnt file need to be in the same folder as the master cnt file?

I'm working in RoboHelp Word and have inserted two external
cnt files into a master cnt file. I've selected the option 'use
full path' as the external help file is installed under a different
folder than the master help file. However, I am unable to view the
extneral cnt file from the master cnt file, unless all cnt and hlp
files are installed in the same folder. Is it not possible to have
the external cnt files under a different folder? Thanks for any
    assistance!

    Hi, SSchwa, and welcome,
I believe that you can keep the files in different folders
provided that they are in the help "search path". The following is
    from Microsoft's WinHelp Author's Guide:
    quote:
WinHelp now searches for Help files in the following
    locations, in the order listed.
    * If a path is specified, WinHelp first searches for the file
in the specified path. If the file is not found, the path is
removed and the following locations are searched.
    * The folder of the current Help file.
    * The current folder.
    * The System subfolder of the Windows folder.
    * The Windows folder.
    * The folders listed in the PATH environment.
    * The location specified in the Winhelp.ini file.
    * The registry.
If WinHelp cannot find a Help file, it displays a dialog box
that enables the user to specify the location of the Help file. If
the users finds the file, WinHelp will add the location information
    in the registry.
As far as registering the .hlp and .cnt files is
concerned, the registry key under which to do so is:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Help

  • How do I read my old WORD files, it does not seem to recognize them?

I downloaded LION and now my WORD files that I had previoulsy can not be read.  How do I get them back?

Elaine, did you change your name from Andy, or are you a separate person? Most of us don't pay that close attention to the name and since your response seemed to be a continuation of Andy's problem, nobody noticed.
Your question appeared to show absolutely no attempt to try the solutions provided for Andy (who we thought you were). What you did is called "threadjacking," and you did it in a way that made everyone believe you were actually Andy, who's thread you threadjacked.
Being that you are a self-professed novice, here's a very basic thing you need to understand: for the most part, data is separate from applications. So, just because your application (Word in this case) no longer works, that doesn't mean your documents are in jeopardy. You can install Office (Word) 2008 or 2011 and open those documents just fine. You can also use any of the programs mentioned to open those documents. There is nothing to "merge" between the applications.
To move them to your new computer, just copy the documents to an external hard drive, thumb drive, or CD/DVD. You can then move them to your Macbook. You can also turn on file sharing and move them that way, but you probably ought to have a backup since you claim them to be important.
Do you have a backup of your iMac? If not, I would suggest getting an external drive copying all your data onto that, make sure it all reads ok, then do what you need to do with your iMac.
Apple's setup assistant should have asked if you wanted to move stuff from your old computer to your new one, which would have been the best way to do that; however, since it appears you have already set up your account on the new Mac, I'd just back up the iMac, either by straight copy, Carbon Copy Cloner, or SuperDuper. You can then move the files you want onto your new Mac from the external hard drive.

  • How do I link an object on the stage to an external class file?

I have a dynamic textfield called neighName on my Flash
stage. I also have a movieclip that I call a region on my stage.
When I mouseover the region, I want a word to display in a little
popup *and* I want some text to display in my textfield. I have an
external .as file for handling the region. I can make the code
"see" my region, but I can't seem to make it see my textfield,
although no errors are being thrown. Help, anyone?

My bad--I had set the textfield.visible to false. Apparently,

How do I include 2 or more external action script files in my FLA document. The first one is easy and taken care by setting the class property of the FLA document to the class file name. But if I have several external class files? I have tried the 'include' directive but the compiler complains - any suggestions?
    Thanks

To import the other Class, just start typing its name in an expression, and hold down the control key while hitting the space bar. Both the Flash IDE and Flash Builder will bring up a code completion dropdown. When you select the Class, the import statement will be generated.
For example, if you are in Foo and you type:
    protected var bar:Bar;
Then when you have typed in the "Ba" part of the word Bar after the colon, if you use the Ctrl-Space keyboard shortcut, it should show you your Bar Class, possibly among other Classes starting with "Ba." Select "Bar" with either your mouse or your cursor, and Flash will finish the word for you and generate the import statement. Note that you can now create and use instances of Bar, but Bar won't be "merged" into Foo, which it sounds like is what you want. To do that, you'll need to do what I suggested, which is to have one Class extend another Class.
To have one Class extend the other, change the line that says "public class Foo" to "public class Foo extends Bar". Note that the two Classes must have compatible functionality and have the same base Class. I'm assuming they do, or else trying to "include" the code wouldn't work either.
Another possible solution, depending on exactly what you're trying to acheive, is to apply the second Class to a symbol in the library and use that by placing it on the stage or accessing it through code. However, you haven't given us very much to go on, so it's really difficult to help you.

  • Spotlight search engine cannot find all word files

I have a mid 2012 Macbook pro. I updated to Yosemite on last Friday. I did a clean installation from a USB. After the installation, I installed Ms word. I feel the search function is not as good as Mavericks. I made sure I selected everything in the spotlight preference.
I have a folder that inclues ~100 pdf files and ~word files (docx). This folder is in "Document" folder. I copied this folder to my external harddrive before the installation and then I copied it back when the installation finished. So, this folder should stay same.
    Here is the problem:
With Mavericks, when I searched "confidence interval" in the folder, the search returned ~10 word files and 20 pdf files that contained "confidence interval".
However, with Yosemite, when I did the same thing, no word files was found; the search did find these 20 pdf files.
I did try to search "interval" instead. This time, the search returened ~3 word files and 30 pdf files. I know there are about 30 word files that contained "interval".
Is there anything I did wrong.
    Please help. Thank you.

Mine works but seems to be limited to my main drive and none of my externals.
