Externalise Users

Hi All,
We are facing some issues while externalizing the users in EAS console, these are the steps we followed ,help us in solving the issue.
1.We have tried to externalize the users using admin user but after this admin(planning user) became as an Essbase user because of which we were unable to login to planning.
2.We reverted back to the normal position by replacing the old backup.
3.Again we created new user in shared services and with the same name we created an Essbase user and tried to externalize with that user, but after that the Essbase administrator became inactive and we were unable to login to both EAS console and Planning.
4.Again we reverted back.
I have one concern with exactly which user we need to externalise the user is it a planning or Essbase user.
Please share any documents or views regarding the externalizing users from Essbase to shared services.
thanks,
Anil

Hi,
there might be a provisioning problem or not externalized users on essbase,If you already configured planning and essbase successfully and externalized users, then provision user with all access which you want, like essbase and planning with admin access and try to login planning application, refresh security filters and refresh from EAS.
Kumar: create new user and provide provisioning for planning and essbase as admin access from shared services and externalize user if it successful, refresh from EAS,if not works, otherwise first provide provision for essbase and externlize users then provide provision for planning. then it may work.
Thanks,
:-) :-)

  • Externalise users to Shared Services fails

I recently tried to Externalise users to Shared Services. However, when I attempted to do this, I received the following error:
    [Thu Nov 13 15:29:12 2008]Local/ESSBASE0///Error(1051449)
Analytical Services failed to get group with Error com/hyperion/css/spi/util/CSSGroupComparator
I tried to Externalise again and then I received this error:
    [Thu Nov 13 15:33:20 2008]Local/ESSBASE0///Error(1051449)
Analytical Services failed to get group with Error [CSS Error: Invalid Argument: Principal passed is NULL]
And also, now whenever I tried to add a new user to Essbase thats authenticated externally, I receive this error:
    [Fri Nov 28 16:56:20 2008]Local/ESSBASE0///Error(1051223)
Single Sign On function call [css_getUser] failed with error [CSS Error: Invalid Argument: Principal passed is NULL]
Note, it did partially succeed in externalising to shared services, as the Essbase Cubes & Project to appear.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve these errors and successfully externalise to shared services?

I have a similar situation at my end.
reconfigure EAS console as from the configuration utility or mere editing the properties of the administration server will do.
I tried editing the properties in the administration server but it dint help so should i go and reconfigure the EAS from the configuration utility .

After you copy the SQL Repository across to the new environment and log in with the owner account, you will be required to register the application with Shared Services. After registering with SS it should prompt you to "Migrate Users and Groups" which will do the migration for you.

    Hi Rob.
    What if you:
    start Computer Mangement.
    Open System Tools
    Right Click Shared Folders
Select All Tasks -> Configure Shadow Copies
Do you see/can configure both disk available there?
Via cmd can you list the volumes that vss knows about using:
    vssadmin list volumes

  • Related to Externalise user from EAS

    Hi,

    After connecting EAS,
1)I right click on 'security' Externalize users.
    2) provide server and it also ask to select- 1) auto , 2) native users login/PW, 3) password
    3) i always select native users and login ID /PW
    then it prompt successfully converted.
    4) I remove essbase server and add again server with similar details but this time my essbase user (user 1) fails to connect with essbase even from ESSCMD.
but system default user 'admin" is start login if i add credentials in shared services.
Please help what is wrong and why same problem each time.

Once you have externlized the users do you see them in Shared services?
You do know that option sets the password to be the same as the username.

  • I cant access my application control in user management cosole( shared svcs

Hi all.. A bit confused....... I just migrated users and groups to Shared Services.......from essbase adminstration server and essbase server.....While migrating to shared services I created a password ( lets assume 'yyyyy') for Essbase Administration Server and Essbase Server.. Well I dont have much more users... the only user for EAS server is default one which is username/password ='admin/password'. For Essbase Server username/password=xxxxxx/xxxxxxx. But after migrating users and groups to shared services mode when I tried to login with these passwords Iam unable to login....... Then I tried to login with my old username/password..... it was successfull..
The problem is when Iam trying to assign access control to application in "user management cosole"....... it is showing the error" login failed due to invalid login credentials". And also I cant access Business Rules it is throwing the error"Refer to security guide to configure security permission for this application"...........?
Any Idea....... What should do ?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Sri-Oracle.

    Hi John......Thanks for your reply....
I did as you said but still no hope... I think Iam making a mistake at some point.... But I dont know what is it.
The Sequence what I did was
1.Started the Essbase Server (with old username/password....as it shows only one user name while it starts).
    2.Started the Essbase Administrative Server.
3.Start the EAS console...... with the old username/password=admin/password.
4.In the enterprise view I right click on the Administrative server>Externalise users> But it says "There are no users available for migration". So it seems my EAS server security has been converted to Shared Services security mode..So where can i use my new password when I created while migrating to shared services? and what is the username is it admin or some other?
5.In the enterprise view I right clicked on the essbase server. I removed the current Essbase Server. Then I tried to add Essbase Server.. Here I can see the checkbox for "Use External Authentication". So it means my essbase server has been externalised.. Well Here is the problem..When the check box is enabled it shows only username that is admin.....and password field is not highlighted.. When I click these it says" Login fails due to invalid credentials"....But I can log in (Add Esbase Server) with uncheck the "use external authentication" check box and entered the details of my old username and NEW PASSWORD which is created while migrating ESSBASE SERVER to Shared Services... then it works..........
After these prolonged process also I cant go with access control option for applications in User Managemnet Console...........
    Thanks and Regards,

    Hi,
It usually means the account you are logging into EAS is not provisioned for business rule access.

You might want to Try Re-run the Config utility from the Linux-Essbase server and Re-register the Essbase with HSS.
Start the Essbase in Foreground and check if it is running
Now log on to the EAS/AAS with default admin/password if you havent changed it :); add your Essbase server using the Super user/Owner of essbase i mean the id..if you are succesful; i would always create a Test user as before Externalisation i can create users at EAS/AAS and then using Admin id ; i will push the Users/groups to the HSS by Externalising.. let me know if that helped you. • Can't create new users in Administration Services Console

    Hi,
I am following directions in the Essbase DBA guide for creating new users, as it says you must create a partition user to work with Samppart and Sampeast applications. It tells me to log on to Administration Services Console, go to the Administration Server, and right-click on users to create a new user. However, when I right-click, the option to Create New User is light grey and not clickable, neither is the option to refresh users. Can anyone tell me why I can't create a new user? I am logged in with the username: admin password: password that I set during configuration and that should be the Administrative account.

    Hi,
What version are you using? If it is 9 then you need to create the user in shared services. I just checked and the option to create a user is greyed out for me too and I am an admin.
It sounds like you haven't externalised the users which is why the option to do a refresh is not there.
    Thanks,
    Nathan

  • Essbase - Shared services security , User provison

    Hi,
I am new to 11.1.1.2 Hyperion version.(worked on 9.3.1) I have some doubts on the user security in 11 version.
We have Distribution environment setup like Essbase on linux and remainng applications on windows 2003 server. Essbase is also registerd with shared services. Here are my questions.
    1. If I change the Shared services Admin password (default password) will it effects any other applications?
*2. How to change essbase admin password (default password)?(from foreground we can change first time only)*
    3. I am trying to login into EAS as well as essbase admin user but under essbase I am not able to create New User. The Create users option on security is disabled seems like already externalised. I am not able to get those users who are created in shared services evnthought using Refresh from Shared servcies+ option in essbase.
    4. If I want to a user with only essbase applicatons provisioned what is the procedure.
Here i followed the procedure. Created xyz user in shared services and provisioned Only Demo applications. trying to loing EAS with xyz credentials login successfull and prompted for essbase credentials with server name , username (Extername authentication) getting failed. If i provide admin password at essbase server leverl i am able to connect and see all applications.
    Please help me on this...

    Hi,
Is it the base install of 9.3.1 or is it a later version like 9.3.1.3
I know there have been a number of security issues being addressed since the base version.
    e.g.
Security. Users are not de-provisioned properly, causing Essbase applications to remain accessible to
    them. [7197541]

  • Externalize users error

I am trying to migrate Essbase users to Shared Services and I get the following error:
Error: 1051449: Essbase failed to get group with Error [CSS Error: Invalid Argument: Principal passed is NULL]
    Any ideas?
    Thank you!

Start Essbase in Foreground.... and capture the error..
Blow the Security and replace it from Backup which was wormking fine..start all over again for Externalisation
You can also check for PREUPM/ POSTUPM files in Essbase/Bin..if they are present then Essbase is partially externalised..you can try taking a copy of the PREUPM and rename the PREUPM to Essbase.sec and start essbase..Rexternalise.

  • User and Group Externalization from EAS console Fails!!

Hi All, I am trying to externalize users and groups from EAS and once its done, all the login Id's (including admin and essadmin) fail. We cant log in into the server anymore because the logins are disabled.
The shared services is running fine and is talking pretty well with Essbase, but the externalization thing is not working.
The Essbase is on Linux server and shared services is on windows server and all the products are 9.3.1.
If any one faced a similar problem or have any idea regarding this issue, please let me know ASAP and would highly appreciate that as we will have to move to production soon.
