Externalization problem in Essbase 9.2

I've being having a rough time trying to externalize Essbase security.
I've done this several times in different machines, but know I'm stuck with this error.
I haven't found any useful information so far.
I have reinstall Shared Services, tried dropping the tables and recreated them. I have deleted the Essbase.sec file, just to recreate it and then tried the externalization.
The error I get is *Error: 1051428: Analytical Services CSS Initialization Fails with Error [CSS Error: CSS not initialized]*

Essbase in native mode is working correctly.
The environment consists in two boxes. A unix box with Essbase, and a windows box with License sever, SS, EAS, BI+. Unix server can see the SS server.

Problem with Essbase add-in 9.2.1 and office 2010.

Hi all,
we have a problem with Essbase add in 9.2.1 and office 2010.
Every time when a user opens Excel a new (additionally) euntry in the ad-on menue appears.
Indeed what happens is, that the add-in is loaded n-times.
At the first start of excel one time, second two times and so on...
Thtas's very annoying.
Can someone confirm this issue or even better know a workaround.
(A way we have found so far to ease the pain a bit -well only temporary- is to disable the ad-in, close Excel and start it again.
However with every new start of execel the issues begins again.
But that's not a solution you can recommand to the end user.)
Any help is welcome.

Problem starting Essbase 11.1.2.1

Hi. I have the next problem.
When I tried start Essbase, opmn have an error. In log file I see this:
ESSBASE / Error (1320022)
Attempt to find an Agent instance corresponding to arborpath [u01/app/hyperion/user_projects/epmsystem2/EssbaseServer/essbaseserver1] failed.
Looking essbase logs, I found this:
[ESSBASE0] [NET-17] [ERROR] [16][] [ecid:1316176939328,0] [tid:1] Host Name Not Available
I installed Essbase under Sun Solaris 10. "hostname" command returns right hostname.
Any suggestion?

Chinese Character Problem in Essbase Integration Service & Oracle9i

I installed oracle9i on windows2000,which character set is SIMPLIFIED CHINESE_CHINA.zhs16cgb231280. And I installed Essbase Integration Service 6.5.4 on HP-UNIX server. I designed an OLAP Model in Integration Services Console and I defined some dimensions name using chinese characters. When I saved the model, the chinese characters I inputed is saved as some question marks(?) in the tables in oracle 9i. After I loaded the dimension data which include the chinese charaters, the dimension data which is chinese characters also displayed question marks in the EIS console. I have added the variable NLS_LANG="SIMPLIFIED CHINESE_CHINA.zhs16cgb231280" in the .profile, but it did not work either. How can I solve this problem? Can I do any configuration on EIS files to solve this problem? Would you please help me? Thank you very much!

Problem assigning Essbase Security filters in Shared Services

We recently upgraded Planning/Essbase to System 9 version 931 in Test. Everything went smoothly except for few users Security didn't migrate properly.
In Shared Services, it shows that user has access to Planning & Native Essbase Applications. But in Essbase, only Planning Application access is shown.
Also when I try to apply security filters for these users in Native Essbase Applications (in Shared Services), I don't see these particular users.
There is no problem with Planning security, except when I refresh Security from Shared Services in Analytic Admin Console it wipes out Planning Application access in Essbase.
For other users there are no issues. Only for few users this is the problem. I have tried to deprovision user & provision back, but no use.
Please Help

Essbase/Planning security is multi tiered. In Shared Services you setup your groups. You provision your groups with adequate security access. Depending on whether you have updated a cetain .css file(to fix bug) you may have to assign the read, write calc access to the group not just calc, but all three if your users need the access to actually, read, write & calc. of need user to just read & write etc... then you have to go to EAS refresh, run maxl script to assign environment access to user, go back to shared services go into projects assign any needed access to calc & filter groups and essbase is setup. For planning you also have to go to workspace and migrate identities within the security setup for any of your dimensions. this comes into play when adding or removing users as filters are created in planning workspace. I just learned this from one good tech that helped me setup & remove users as I had issues getting them in and out of the system..Now to move on to actually getting security reports that make sense for planning with the associated access. If anyone has the maxl code let me know.

Problems w/ Essbase 9.3.1 Installation

Hi, I am new to essbase. i have installed shared services, essbase server, and admin services to a winxp machine. after going thru all the steps in the config util and deploying all services to tomcat, rebooted machine, and started all services (shared services, ldap, bi+ analytics, and admin services), I wasn't able to see the essbase server inside shared services. the only component i could see inside shared services project folder is "business rules." if the installation was done properly, i should be able to see "Analytic Server:Servername" inside the project folder in hss. Also, I could not see the essbase server w/in the admin svc console. would anyone know what i have done wrong in the installation? i can't seem to get past this point.
when i first install, i installed in this order: hss, eas, essbase server. then i uninstalled and reinstalled in this order: hss essbase server, eas. however, i noticed that the tomcat component and settings remained and not all the directories were deleted. after second installation, it looked like there were leftover setting from 1st time installation. any suggestions? would really appreciate help w/ this. thx.

looks like we have many experts on the Essbase Excel Add-in here.
I have a problem that I haven't been able to resolve:
When I use the Essbase Menu in Excel to connect to the Essbase cubes, the login screen comes up and after all credentials are provided and the OK button is clicked all accessible cubes are displayed but after selecting a cube and clicking on OK the login portal does not go away.
It just stays there and the excel is not connected to the server.
I'm using Essbase Excel addin version 9.2.1, and I have already tried out un-installing and re-installing the Excel Addin.
Please help me out here, I have no clue whats going on.

Externalizable problems between v1.3 and v1.4

I have strange problems with the Externalizable objects.
I Use many Object to Save my file, but wien i try to Externalizable on J1.3 and Denalizable again in J1.4 I got this message:

Now the problem is that the first fix statement works just fine, but the FIX statement in the 'second part' throws an error
Error: 1200354 Error parsing formula for [FIX STATEMENT] (line 66): expected type [STRING] found [EXTVAR] ([iloop]) in function [@CONCATENATE]
If I hard code the 'second part' FIX statement to the substitution variable directly - it works just fine.
How can the first statement work and not the second one ? They are exactly the same.

But it still does not entirely solve my problem (please see my previous post depicting a requirement similar to ours )
- We have lots of countries (50-60+ might be much more) and each country can have multiple entities (3-4 on an average - can go unto 7-8)
- so good guess would be around 200 entities
- So say I have to do it for 2 countries only (two entity types). Then I need 4 variables - 2 for each country ('country 1 ET1 total', 'Country 1 ET2 Total')
When the list is 20 counties - variables become 40 :(.
- Still leaving aside the 40 variables for a bit -
There are subsequent steps of calculations which needs to be done based on these totals (which are exactly the same for all countries) - just that we need the correct totals to begin with and the rest is already stored in the DB
So since I have a different variable for each country - I cannot write one single calculation block to use the variables sequentially one by one (can I ?)
I might have to write a separate calculation block for each of these countries. (20 separate blocks)
That's what I was trying to avoid and simplify with the substitution variable (but is not working)
- Create substitution variables - which would store the alias of the required countries (2/10/20 as many required)
- Loop through these substitution variables - using them one by one
- So I just need one single block of calculation with all the variable in the calc script being reused after each country calculation is done
- and the user need not go into the script, as the only thing that will change are the countries. And he can change it easily through the substitution variable.

Problem with Essbase variable setting in maxl

Hi,
I have a short question about changing variables using maxl.
I used the following statement to change the variable value to 'Jan'.
alter database Testapp.Plan1 set variable TestVar Jan;
The problem is that this does not change the value of the variable. No error is reported though.
The variable is explicitly initialized on this database (so I didn't use the 'all dbs' setting).
I just don't see where I'm going wrong. Do you guys have any idea?

Problems with Essbase 7.1.2

Hi,I am using API "EndDataLoad" for loading data into Essbase programatically.The data is loaded properly with some Unknown members. Now this API returns me a pointer to the link list containing Errors. The length of the link list gives me total number of errors. SO far so good. Now in the nodes of link list im getting right Erro type, but the movement I access the field called "pName" (Which gives me the Unknown member name), I am getting "Unhandled exception, Memory could not be read". The same coe works against Essbase 6/6.5 but it is not working against 7.1.2. Is there any bug in 7.1.2 APIs??????

Make sure you are using the declarations for version 7.1.2 and not for version 6.x. Hyperion may changed those from time to time and change the length and number of variables in the structures. Build OBIEE 11g repository accessing Essbase problem

When I use OBIEE 10g to import Essbase cubes metadata, the measures are displayed as 'physical cube columns' in physical layer; however, when I use OBIEE 11g to import the same Essbase cubes metadata, these 'physical cube columns' disappear (i.e., I cannot see profit, margin, etc. anymore) but rather, the measures are shown with 'physical dimension' with a hierarchy structure (up to Gen4 measures).
The implication is that when I drag the structures to BMM layer and then presentation layers, I am not able to select any measures in the presentation layer.
Are there anyone who can help me solve this problem?

Hi user,
Obiee 10g had a big problem importing essbase measures. In order for you to create a measure you needed to make the measure dimension and "Account" type dimension which would mostly be the Scenario dimension rather than the Account dimension.
Obiee 11g allows you to import the account dimensino and decide whether to treat it as measures or as a dimension. Once the cube is imported,right click on it and select "Convert measure dimension to flat measures". This will resolve your problem.

Essbase Adapter ODI Problem
