Externally Hosted Widgets (Flash object embed) In Catalyst or Flex

Is there any way I can embed flash objects, i.e., externally hosted widgets in FC? ...In Flex?
There are many externally hosted widgets now available for sideshows, video etc, that are flash objects like Cooliris.
( http://developer.cooliris.com/?p=embed/quickstart )
Any suggestions?

Hi Rick,
I am not an expert at this, so I apologize if anything I tell you is wrong. The experts are over on the Flex forums and you'll want to hop over there for deeper questions.
1) To load a SWF from within a SWF, you use the SWFLoader component.
2) FC allows you to embed a SWF within the same project by File > Import > SWF File. In this case, the SWF is compiled into your main SWF and increases its size.
3) To include a SWF that doesn't exist in your project, but that is somewhere else on the internet, you'll need to use FB. There are some cross-domain and security considerations, just like with HTML/JS. Here is the documentation on SWFLoader: http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=controls_15.html
Hope that helps =\...

  • Is there a way to overlay a soundcloud music player widget (flash or HTML5) ON TOP of a jpeg image?

    I am designing my first webpage for a new site. It is very basic in function, where I am going to be embedding a bunch of soundcloud.com players of my music to my website. This part is fairly easy. I currently have Adobe Dreamweaver CS6.
    Since I have ZERO webdesign experience, going the easy route is best. It was suggested to me by someone to create what I wanted my webpage to look like in photoshop (which I have lots of experience in). Essentially, I have a single image with lots of visual information on it, where I can then add "hotspots" if needed. So, I created my design, where there are specific areas ON TOP of the jpeg image where I want to overlay the soundcloud player. I am able to adjust the size, and format (HTML5 or Flash) of the player itself at soundcloud. I then have the proper code that needs to be put where I want it on top of my image.
    Is there a simple piece of code, or a way in Dreamweaver to accomplish this in an easy way?
    Thanks in advance!

    Here is the widget code for HTML5 for the first one:
    <iframe width="100%" height="166" scrolling="no" frameborder="no" src="https://w.soundcloud.com/player/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F63420632&c olor=c51c64&auto_play=false&show_artwork=false"></iframe>
    Flash if needed:

    Second one: (HTML5)
    <iframe width="100%" height="166" scrolling="no" frameborder="no" src="https://w.soundcloud.com/player/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F57922474&c olor=c51c64&auto_play=false&show_artwork=false"></iframe>
    Flash:

    And finally, here is a link to the jpeg image:
    http://www.mediafire.com/view/?z2bngmtiikmi9k9  (only 2mb files were permitted to be uploaded here directly)
    You can probably see where I want the player to overlay...below the text and to the right of the artwork.  I will have the image centered on the screen.
    I greatly appreciate your help!
    Thanks again,
    David

  • Flash object undefined

    I've added the following to my .ASPX page:
    <object style="position:absolute; left:-169px; top:0px;"
    classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="
    http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0"
    width="170" height="60" id="FlashFileUpload" align="middle"
    VIEWASTEXT>
    <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" />
    <param name="movie" value="misc/FlashFileUpload.swf"
    />
    <param name="quality" value="high" />
    <param name="wmode" value="transparent" />
    <param name="bgcolor" value="#d4d0c8" />
    <embed src="misc/FlashFileUpload.swf" quality="high"
    wmode="transparent" bgcolor="#d4d0c8" width="170" height="60"
    name="FlashFileUpload" align="middle"
    allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"
    pluginspage="
    http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"
    />
    </object>
    The .swf and code checks out fine within a plain .html file
    but when i plug it into my .ASPX page outside the <form> tag
    (or even within) i get a "FlashFileUpload is undefined" javascript
    error window. I've debugged it and foudn it is an eror within some
    foreign code (possibly Macromedia Flash marshalling code between JS
    and the .SWF ?)
    I'm confused. The error occurs immediately when the page
    appears. I had an <body onload> to initialize some key areas
    within the .SWF file but removed it, so the JS error isn't being
    caused by any of my own JS code. The FlashFileUpload is an ID of
    the <object> tag and is only used once as an ID and again as
    a name attribute for <embed>. The flash object does have an
    onscreen display and yes i do see it in my browser window despite
    the several JS error windows however interaction with it from my
    web page via JS seems impossible. Again all is fine within Firefox
    and within a plain HTML web page.
    Im using Flash 8 on Windows 2003 and IE6 and am making use of
    external.ExternalInterface.

    Did you check the generated page? Meaning, since you might be
    working in
    .Net, it usually adds some code, HTML & Javascript, just
    try to debug the
    page generated by IIS (If you've not done so already). The
    other option is,
    remove the VIEWASTEXT (but I'm not quite sure what this one
    does, just
    wondering if this is a flag processed by .Net).

  • How to read a local file using as3 in a flash object in HTML? [urgent]

    My web site contains a flash object.
    I want to use as3 to read some local .txt file
    by getting the user directory of the file.
    i know AIR can support this by sth like:
    File.desktopDirectory.resolvePath
    but when i open a AIR file for this, it seems
    the action cant be run when i embed it in html.
    And i tried to use the above function in a normal
    flash file in the action script.
    But it cant recognize the File. class..
    How can it be done ?
    It's reli urgent,
    please help...
    Thanks !

    a web based flash app can't detect user directories.  you can use the filereference class'es browse method to let the user locate a file in any directory the user wants.  flash can then retrieve the file's name and type.  but, as mentioned before,  flash can't determine the file's directory.

  • I want to create an external video widget with iAd. I followed the steps and copied the Url and paste it in the Video pop-up menu in the Properties section of the inspector. When i select 'preview' the video doesn't play and the Url that i pasted is gone.

    i want to create an external video widget with iAd to use in an iBook. I followed the steps and copied the Url and paste it in the Video pop-up menu in the Properties section of the inspector. When i select 'preview' the video doesn't play and the Url that i pasted is gone.
    hope someone can help!

    May have something to do with whether or not the URL can be reached while building your widget.  I've got a video on the web. When I enter the URL into the field for the video object and click to another field,  the URL is replaced with some text indicating that it is accessing the video then updates itself to displaying just the name of the video file.
    It shows just fine in preview and I can see the full path to the video when I export the widget so it should work for you.
    Is the video accessible from your Mac while you're laying out your widget?

  • Flash objects not displaying in Firefox (but works fine in Chrome and IE)

    Well, I'm trying to embed a Shockwave Flash object into a website I'm building. It displays in Chrome and IE, but it doesn't show up at all in Firefox. It's just white space. Ive tried it on two machines, so it's presumably the code. Both the machines have Adobe Flash enabled... I'm not sure what the problem is. I've not worked with embedding Flash objects in HTML before, so, it's probably something really obvious. I just used the insert command on dreamweaver and it wrote the code that I'm using. If anyone can help me, it would be much appreciated. Here's my code:
    <pre><nowiki><object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="99%" height="600" id="FlashID">

    <param name="quality" value="high" />
    <param name="wmode" value="opaque" />
    <param name="swfversion" value="10.1.0.0" />
    <!-- This param tag prompts users with Flash Player 6.0 r65 and higher to download the latest version of Flash Player. Delete it if you don’t want users to see the prompt. -->
    <param name="expressinstall" value="../Scripts/expressInstall.swf" />
    <!-- Next object tag is for non-IE browsers. So hide it from IE using IECC. -->
    <!--[if !IE]>-->
    <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="the file path" width="99%" height="76.5%">
    <!--<![endif]-->
    <param name="quality" value="high" />
    <param name="wmode" value="opaque" />
    <param name="swfversion" value="10.1.0.0" />
    <param name="expressinstall" value="../Scripts/expressInstall.swf" />
    <!-- The browser displays the following alternative content for users with Flash Player 6.0 and older. -->
    <div>
    <h4>Content on this page requires a newer version of Adobe Flash Player.</h4>
    <p><a href="http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer"><img src="http://www.adobe.com/images/shared/download_buttons/get_flash_player.gif" alt="Get Adobe Flash player" width="112" height="33" /></a></p>
    </div>
    <!--[if !IE]>-->
    </object>
    <!--<![endif]--></nowiki></pre>

    If you can't post an address for a page demonstrating the problem, could you check the Web Console (Ctrl+Shift+k) and Browser Console (Ctrl+Shift+j) for any messages related to the Flash media? For example, does either console show that Firefox is requesting the SWF file? Does either show an error in content type or any kind of security message?

  • Can't authorize a Flash object in iWeb

    Hi! I have a problem in iWeb. In my pages I have many Flash objects, like the YouTube player or the Vimeo player.
    Today I tried to put the Facebook player on the page and the Flash Player Security dialog box came out telling me that the application /iweb-widget/1:$x-html-markup needed to communicate with static.ak.fbcdn.net.
    If I click OK the Facebook player works with no problems, but every time I change page and then return there, the dialog box always comes out.
    I now that I need to trust this local content using the Flash Player settings (and with version 10.3 is easier than ever), but I can't find this folder: I've searched everywhere and I don't know where it is.
    Can you please help me? Thank you very much.

    Thanks for your answer.
    I mean that I can't find the folder to authorize. I will be more clear: this is the dialog box (it's in italian, but you all know what is about).
    How can I tell Flash Player to authorize the iWeb widget folder if I can't find it in my Mac?
    I'm under Mac, OS X 10.6.7.

  • Can a macromedia flash object be embedded in BSP?

    Can a macromedia flash object be embedded in BSP?

    Sure.  You can even upload the flash object itself into the mime repository right along the BSP application.  Basically you just fall back to normal old HTML to embed the Flash Object.  Here is an example that I just created a few minutes ago:
    <%@page language="abap" %>
    <html>

  • Missing 'shockwave flash object' in powerpoint

    Hi,
    I've read hundrews of tutorials on how to add a file into a powerpoint 2007 presentation. For some reason though, I don't have the option of 'shockwave flash object' in the menu.
    I am running windows 7 new as of 2 days ago and a copy of office I downloaded from microsoft 2 days ago. I have re-installed both Flash Player and Office - both with no succession. Is there any way I can fix this?
    I've tried searching for the .ocx file - but have no idea what it could be called and found nothing that looked remotely related.
    Does anyone have any idea what I can do? The project is due tomorrow at 9am - and I've been working on this one bit for all of today without getting any closer.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I have installed PowerPoint 2010 beta release on my machine. I was able to attach a SWF file to the presentation successfully. All options to insert a video are located on the Insert tab, in the Media group. Please refer to the link below on how to insert a flash movie to the presentation.
