Externally unaccessible "97." IP addresses

I have two Verizon cell modems at different locations in Virginia, each running in 3G mode and connected to NetCams.  I use a DDNS service to keep track of the dynamic IP addresses so that I can externally access the cameras.  In the last week or so Verizon has been randomly using IP addresses that start with  "97."   These look like real external IP addresses (they don't start with "10." , "172." , or "192" like internal reserved addresses) but they cannot be accessed from outside of the system.  My modems reset (power off/on) twice a day and sometimes they come back up with an externally accessible "75." IP address, but much of the time I get an unaccessible "97" address.
Is this how things are going to be from now on?  Is this a ploy to get me to spend $500 for static IP addresses?

@w4sm,
You might want to speak with a VZW rep for a more official explanation on this one.
The order to which VZW devices display and provide public IP addresses is nothing that we can control or configure.  We are at the mercy of VZW to allocate thier public facing IP addresses to our devices.  I assume there is some kind of network pool of addresses that are available at any given time.  When a device shuts down it drops its old IP and negotiates a new one from VZW the next time it connects, this is how DHCP works on home routers.  When all the public IP's are taken up then .97 addresses are distributed to fill in the remaining gap of users.  We can only assume this problem will get worse as more devices are added to VZW and those public IP's have to spread across more devices.
We already know that public facing IP addresses are an issue on all 4G LTE devices due to the network technology that is used for that network.  VZW may be trying to protect its remaining public IPv4 addresses for those who are willing to pay the extra $$$.  Perhaps this situation will get better when VZW starts providing IPv6 addresses to all thier devices instead of IPv4.

That has nothing to do with anything. Whether the resource is on the local network or accesible through the internet only is not relevent here at all. This forum is for Java network programming. If a resouce is not available because you are not connected physically to a network that is a network problem. That is not a Java progamming problem.
    Okay?
There's alot of rubbish posted in this forum about "public networks" and what not and not one lick of it is related to Java programming. Yes if you connect through more routers to something there is a better chance that somewhere along the way that you will hit a firewall or other similar issue. But these are all network issues. Not networking programming issues. And not resolvable directly in Java any way you want to think about it.

  • Meeting Place Web Servers ( Internal and External )DNS and IP Addressing

For the Meetingplace 8.5 what will be the IP addresses of the Internal Web Server ( Internal IP's from the same subnet as of the CUCM) and for the External one interface from the internal network subnet ( CUCM subnet)  and the other Public IP address?
How we will be mapping the DNS FQDN for these IP addresses?
Do we need to have one internal DNS server and the other place in the DMZ?

    Hi Ali,
You need two Web Server one Internal and one External. While configuring you internal web server you also add external if external particpants are allowed or not.
For internal web server you want to make sure it's on the same subnet so internal particpants can access that one. For external you need to make sure the IP configured on external one is either natted ip or public ip so that when they type the external domain name it resolves to this external server ip address.
Let me know if you have more questions.

    Hi,
The form of address field in E-Recruiting is taken from the business partner settings, so you have to adjust them in V_TSAD3.

  • External SMTP server, From address

I have googled a good number of postings about this but just couldn't quite find the right solution. Surely this can't be that hard. Running Leopard, here's what I'm trying to do:
Use Mail to read & send emails from my work server as well as my .Mac account.
Easy enough, you would think. Sorry if this is too obvious but I'm a new Mac devotee (though this has rocked my boat a bit!). So, here are the problems I've encountered:
    1) Tried to add an External Server to MobileMe. Problem: Can't my external address as reply-to
    2) Tried to add the account to Mail. The SMTP server doesn't seem to want to take the password that I know works for Outlook and keeps the account "Offline". When I try to send an email using this in the From, it gives me the outgoing email error, allows me to edit or select servers. Selecting it again gives the same erorr.
    3) Tried to just use the default Mac SMTP server for this external account, but still get an error when trying to send.
Please help me get the right solution!
    Thanks,
    R

The MobileMe .mac/.me smtp can only be used when sending from a MobileMe address, and not any others.
What is the source of the SMTP you are trying to use with the other account? What Port are you presenting that SMTP on, and how have you selected to authenticate it?

  • External Hostname Vs IP address

    Hi,
    We face issue in performance.
The performance of accessing reports in Report Manager differs when it is accessed via url with IP Address and url with external hostname.
With IP address the access is very fast where as with external its not. What might be the issue? how can we get the same speed we get with IP Address in the url having external hostname?
    -Thank you!
--------------------------- Radhai Krish | Golden Age is no more far | --------------------------

External?  does this mean your accessing another host in another domain; e.g. not in your companies domain?  If so then the issue is that if you use just the I.P. address then the connection protocol will attempt to connect directly to
the Server with the I.P.; when specifying the Server Name your process will go via DNS; which in turn looks up the Server Name, provides the I.P. address and then makes the connection, this is why using the Host name is slower.
Please click "Mark As Answer" if my post helped. Tony C.
I am sorry I might have said it incorrectly. Apologize!
I meant that our IP address link would be like this: http://101.100.203.199/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx?ViewMode=List
similarly we do have another address for the report manager like,
    http://ourcompanydomain.com/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx?ViewMode=List
I meant that ourcompanydomain.com to be the external hostname..
I just used wrong word. its Host Header.
Is there any work around to make the host header to be accessed faster?

  • Giving users control of their own distribution list control to add or remove external email addresses from their list

We are a Exchange 2010 SP3 shop, we have distribution groups (with over 200 email addresses ) from another email system which has only external email addresses (i.e [email protected] [email protected]  and so on …..)
We want to import these groups into exchange. we called microsoft, they said create mail contacts for each address and put those in a Distribution Group.  I know this will work.
Our goal is to have the user create / maintain / add / remove external their own email addresses  (Not the IT department)
There must be many companies whose requirements match ours. Are there third party tools that would handle creation of distribution list?
Any constructive advice would be greatly appreciated ! THank you

I wouldn't give the ability to create contacts to everyone in the environment because it will become mess at some point of time and IT will have to jump to control it
anyway so why don’t from the start...
I would give this to certain people like Leads or Managers of the groups under certain IT Policy so it will be still under control and people
will think before asking their superior to create them and someone gets responsibility to manage these contacts...
Though here is the more specific article on how to delegate creating and editing contacts...

  • Lync 2013 - Address Book Synchronization Issues for External Users

I recently deployed Lync Server 2013 in my organization. Everything works fine except for the address book synchronizing issues and the mobility access. I would really appreciate if someone could share their knowledge as I have done lot of troubleshooting,
not sure if I have missed something. Please note my setup below for the External Web Services.
    Lync Front End:
    Listening: 8080 4443
    Published: 80 443
I have published my External Web Services URL and the following ports are open: 4443, 443, 8080
When I look at the Lync Client Configuration, ABS Server External URL is pointing to https://lyncexternalweb.domain.com:443/abs/handler. However, GAL Status is still pointing to my internal Front End FQDN: https://internal.domain.com:443/abs/handler.
For machines that are joined to the domain, the address books synchronizes with no issues. For machines that are not joined to the domain and for external users, GALContacts and GALContacts.DB files are not event generated for the users profiles.

    Hi Anthony,
    Please note the findings below:
    1. I was checking the Lync Client configuration on one of the PC that is not joined to the domain, still on the domain network via site to site VPN connection. I noticed that the Connected Lync Server varies: sipinternal.domain.com, sipexternal.domain.com,
lync.domain.com (Pointing to the Edge Server IP).
    2. Edge Server External Settings: Single IP address with the FQDN set to lync.domain.com for all 3 services and the following ports configured. Access Edge Service: 5061, Web Conferencing Edge Service: 444, A/V Edge Service: 443 with NAT enabled public
IPv4 address. I have checked the replication status between the Front End and Edge Server, it is up to date.
    3. In regard to the https://lyncdiscover.domain.com, I don't have the lyncdiscover.domain.com published, but it is pointing to the NAT enabled public IPv4 address which is assigned for A/V Edge Services.
    4. For the port forwarding, I am using the Cisco Meraki router.
Please advise if there are there is something that I am missing.
    Thanks!

  • Create public facing web site of SharePoint intranet portal with Public IP Address

    Hi,
I did below steps to create public facing URL and to access outside domain network (Internet).
    1. Got a public IP Address.
    2. Created an extending web application to existing Web Application (default zone - intranet) and Zone selected to Internet and host header given test.contoso.com.
    3. Went to IIS and edit binding of Internet site. Provided public IP Address in 'IP Address' textbox and given host name as test.contoso.com.
Above are the 3 steps used to get access http://test.contoso.com in internet. But unable to access it and not seen any relavant message.
Please help me and provide me steps to achieve.

Did you actually register the contoso.com address on the Internet?  And is it associated with the public IP Address?  To access SharePoint from the Internet you are going to use http://test.contoso.com.  The Internet DNS servers need to be
able to resolve that to your Public IP in order to find the SharePoint server.
Second, did you bind your external IP address to one of the network cards on your SharePoint server?  Or is your Firewall or other gateway device forwarding traffic to the SharePoint server at that address?
Another problem you may have is whether that Internet IP address is even reachable on your internal network from the Internet.  Most companies have Firewalls inplace to keep external users from accessing addresses inside your network.
It sounds like you've done all the SharePoint configuration correctly, but you also need to make sure that TCP/IP is correctly configured.

  • Same usernames, internal vs. external domains, conflict when usingWebAccess

Currently running GW 8.0.2hp2 on NetWare 6.5sp8.
We have a single domain and single post office, and a single WebAccess
and single GWIA gateway. We about 25 external domains setup to allow
using external users' e-mail addresses our in internal corporate address
books and distribution lists following the procedure outlined here:
    http://www.novell.com/documentation/...a/a2zvyc4.html
The problem is that one of my internal users in our corporate domain/PO
has the same userid as a user in one of the external domain/PO's. So,
for example, their e-mail addresses are:
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
Everything works except that my internal user cannot use GW WebAccess.
Trying to login to WebAccess results in the following error:
"Please login again. You may have typed your name or password
incorrectly. Remember that your user name must be unique."
If I either change my internal user's GroupWise userid, or if I delete
or rename the external user's userid, then my internal user can login
into WebAccess without a problem. So this does appear to be due to
non-unique username's. The WebAccess is seeing the internal and
external user names, and not allowing my internal user to login.
Is there a work around for this since the users are in separate domains
and PO's, or do I need to just rename my internal user's account? I
have no control over the external user's e-mail address, so I can't
    rename their userid.
Is there a way to keep the "default WebAcess" gateway from looking at
external domain's for user account authentication? I have tried setting
up a class of service in the WebAccess gateway to deny access to the
external domain, and that hasn't worked either.
    Thanks,

  • Adding external mail contacts to a distribution group seems to randomly add the user instead of the mail contact

I've added a external mail contact for all my mailbox users because all the users have other jobs and other external email addresses.  Since these users don't normally log on to my domain to get email, I need to create a distribution list with all their
external email addresses.  I've scripted the creation of all the external mail contacts, from the mailbox users and I use AD's Notes field to contain the users external address. When using add-DistributionGroupMember and supplying the external mail
contact email address as the "-Member" param, about half of the time the users mailbox user gets added to the group instead of the external contact.  I don't see any arguments to tell add-DistributionGroupMember to use only mail contacts.
    1) I don't even know how it's finding the mailbox user because I'm supplying an external email address which is only in the external mail contact.
    2) Some members of the group are correctly added as external contacts, some are mailbox users.
    3) I only want the external mail contacts in the group
If it helps, here's the line that I use to add members to the group. I've tried mail enabling the mail contacts, no help...
    Add-DistributionGroupMember–identity“AltEveryone”–member(get-QADuser$_.Name).Notes
    Thanks for any help.

You should ask questions like this in the Exchange forum.  It is not a scripting question but is a product behavior question.
You cannot add an external contact without first creating the contact first.

  • How do I import address book from time machine backup

My address book was populated on an imac running Lion and I used time machine to back up to an external hard drive.
The imac crashed and I've purchased another one running  Mavericks.
How do I import the contents of my address book from the backup on the external drive to the address book on the new imac?
Whenever I try to select or open an earlier version of the address book in the backup applications folder on the external drive, I get a message saying that I can't open the file because it is a time machine backup.
There is also a diagonal line going through the address book thumbnail icon and various other applications in the backup applications folder and I get the same error message informing that these apps are time machine backups.
If you have a solution please be as clear and precise as possible with instructions as I am not a computer boffin.

    Here's the situation:
I have a G4 with Tiger OS that has 2 years of saved emails and Address Book entries. I just got a G5, installed brand new drives, and did a fresh install of Leopard. I did not use Migration Assistant during the install, because I have no router.
Then I connected the 2 'puters with firewire, and started the G4 in Target Mode, and attempted to Import my old mail and Address Book. I diddled around and was able to import my old mailboxes. I did just realize, though, that only about half the emails were imported; there's a huge gap of nearly a year up until I stopped using the G4.
Also, when I go to the Address Book and try to import my old one, it shows up not as a solid icon that I can select, but a ghostly icon, for lack of a better word, and it will not let me select it.
I really thought this should be easier and less painful. I'm open to suggestions, including whether I should try to use the Leopard install DVD to try the Migration Assistant with a Firewire connection or an ethernet cable.
    Thanks.

  • External mail routing issues

    Hi,
I have installed Ex2013 on a separate box.  Over the weekend I have switched the 2010 CAS role to my new CAS server.  I update the external url's on the virtual directories on the new CAS server swapped out the ip's of my 2010 exchange putting
it on the new one (as I don't have to make any changes to my public dns records) and set a new ip for my 2010 cas box with mailboxes.  Last, I updated the internet connector to include my new CAS server as a source server.  Basiscally, everything
works fine except the now we can't send any external emails.  We got an undeliverable message saying that "client host x.x.x.x blocked using block list 1, mail from IP banned............

    Hi Joe,
Based on your NDR, it indicates that your IP address 4.30.210.34 is blocked in the BlockList . If you want to remove your address from the list, you need send a message to
[email protected] with your IP address.
Additionally, if you want to send external message from Exchange 2013 server, it is recommended to
change the primary host names, such as mail.contoso.com, autodiscover.contoso.com, and owa.contoso.com (if used) to
point to the external, publically-accessible, IP address of the Exchange 2013 Client Access server with your public DNS provider
instead of an external IP of your original Exchange 2010.
In other words, you might need to make changes to your firewall to support the new Exchange 2013 server. You might need to add new firewall rules, add an external IP address for your Exchange 2013 server, or make other configuration
changes. For more information about configuring DNS records, we can refer to:

  • Using files on both internal and external hard drive

    Hi,
Could someone help me with (or point me to help on) the following questions:
    - i would like to use itunes where some of the music files are stored on my internal PC drive, and some are on an external drive. do you know how to have the library work with both, without copying over the ones on the external drive to the internal drive?
    - and on the external drive, what happens if the PC gives the external drive a different address (e.g. "G:/" instead of "H:/", since i have a couple of different external drives)?
    - lastly, can i move the files into different folders in windows, without itunes losing where the file is?
    With thanks in advance

If you go to your iTunes preferences: Edit >>Preferences>>Advanced>>General and uncheck the box "Copy to iTunes music folder when adding to library", then you can add files to iTunes from your external drive without copying them across. I am assuming your have your iTunes Music folder on your c: drive.
Note that any files you download from the store or rip from CD will automatically go into the iTunes Music folder. If you want files ripped from CD on the external drive, it is easier to rip them with another program. Then add to iTunes when they are in the correct location.
If you want to have files on an extrenal drive, you must ensure that the drive letter does not change or iTunes will lose the files. Also you must not move files in your iTunes library with windows explorer or iTunes will loose them.
