EXTPROC.EXE hogs CPU

I have installed Oracle 8.1.6 on the laptop (Windows NT 4.0 -SP5)
After 10 minutes of machine bootup, extproc.exe is executed and takes over 99% of CPU and CPU utilization is 100% till shutdown of windows nt(as observed through task manager). LAptop has 128 MB ram. Oracle server is installed in the laptop for the demo of application using oracle server as backend.
HELP ME

I have a single core laptop it won't work eats 99% of cpu, it's the mobile device service. I couldn't update my iPhone 4 to the latest iOS5.
Also I can't access iTunes to get my contact list or music from iTunes with my new iPhone 4S because I have to update to iTunes 10.5 to do that or buy a quard core laptop.
I do have two quard core PC's on in shop and one in bits, but my laptop was always my backup, maybe I need a new laptop but can't afford one atm.

  • 6380 wireless finds Vista machine but not XP machine - scan from XP hangs - hpqdstcp.exe hogging cpu

    Hello,
    Having some trouble with my new 6380 all-in-one.
    Installation is wireless on 802.11g Linksys router. One machine is Windows Vista Home the other a laptop running XP.
    When I scan from the 6380 it does not offer me a choice of computer - it simply scans over to the Vista machine.It does not appear to know the XO machine is there.
    If I attempt to run the scanner via "Solution Center" from my XP machine and attempt to run scan or access scan settings the application hangs with its initial popup window. Other settings unrelated to scanning ARE accessible from the XP running Solution Center.
    I have also repeatedly had the XP machine slow to a crawl and Process Manager indicates hpqdstcp.exe using 70-90% of cpu.
    I AM able to print to the 6380 from the XP machine.
    I AM ALSO able to scan to the XP if I am running my paint program (Paintshop Pro) and select the 6380 as the TWAIN device.
    On the XP machine: I have Avast Antivirus running, Windows Firewall and Spybot Resident. Firewall has a long list of hpq*.* programs on its exception list and I have added a few more from the bin directory just in case.
    I have tried running the "Solution Center" with the antivirus and spybot disabled and the firewall OFF - no change.
    I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the software on the XP to no avail.
    Had a Canon LidoScan scanner connected to the XP machine via USB prior to this. Removed it and uninstalled.
    Have a Dell color Laser connected to the router via USB.
    Ran a registry cleaner having read somewhere that this problem had to do with a registry error.
    I would surely appreciate your thoughts.
    thanks,
    Daryl

  • Extproc.exe memory usage

    Hello,
    I'm having problems while using ODT with ODAC (11.2.0.2.1). I've done a .NET (C# using Visual Studio 2010) library to be called from PL/SQL. It works without a problem, and finish the execution closing all objects and even doing a Garbage Collection (System.GC.Collect()) just to be sure that the most memory is reclaimed.
    The problem comes when I do the stress test (multiple call to the C# procedure, like 20000 times). I can see how extproc.exe (the service/process used to make external calls) start using more and more memory. Each call to the C# procedure wastes some KB of memory, and when I do the stress test, extproc.exe comes to have allocated 800 MB of RAM memory and even more...
    It seems that sometimes, Oracle or the process itself makes acknowledge of the RAM used and I see it wasting only 100 MB, so it seems it has some kind of memory management capabilities, but it's not enought, as sometimes memory goes as high that my server starts loading out some process from memory and performance degrades.
    Is there any way to control how much memory extproc.exe can waste, or control the behaviour of the process, or something like that?
    Thanks a lot,
    Luis Miguel

Is it possible that JVM is not returning memory back to OS? or some other reason for increase in memory usage?The VM isn't returning memory to the OS and it's designed to work like that. • Common Language Runtime option missing when attaching to extproc.exe

    All,
    In references to http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/mastering_dotnet_oracle/williams_sps.html.. I have been able to sucessfully deploy the .NET store procedure from VS 2005 to Oracle 11g with Oracle Extensions for .NET. The .NET SP also runs in SQL*Plus and from my VS 2005.
    I have Oracle 11g on a Win2003 Server and VS 2005 on a WinXP, so I attemped to debug the .NET store procedure remotely by attaching my VS to the extproc.exe process on the Win2003 machine.
    I setup a Visual Studio Remote Debuging Monitor on the Win2003 machine and could attached to it from my XP box but it does not hit the breakpoint Ive set when I run the SP from SQL*Plus. **All permission were set to allow remote debugging
    However, there isnt an option to specify CLR as the code type/program type.. only Managed, Native and T-SQL is listed. Extproc.exe is also listed as a " Managed, x86" Type as opposed to a ".NET, ..." Type unlike the screenshot shown in the article.
    Does anybody know why this is the case? Could it be possible that extproc.exe cannot be debugged remotely?
    Would appreicate it if anyone could shed some light into this.
    Thanks in advance.
    Brian

    Issue resolved. I came into work today and the breakpoint hit for some strange reason.

  • Windowserver suddenly hogs cpu with Lightroom and Photoshop

    I recently upgraded these software packages to 64bit and upgraded NIK plugins for each to the 64bit versions. Since then I've had problems with PS freezing while making adjustments using a NIK plugin (doesn't appear to be plug-in specific). Looking at the Activity Monitor I see windowserver up to 90+ cpu usage. Sometimes if I just wait it will recover, sometimes I have to shut everything down.
    Anyone seeing this problem while using this software and if so have you found a remedy? This never happened while using the 32bit versions of all these packages.

    My understanding is that windowserver is an OS X application independent of software used. My question is whether others have seen windowserver start hogging CPU time while this specific software was being used and any Mac remedies that solve the issue. It's not an Adobe question.

    Eliminate a Wifi issue by connecting a Ethernet cable directly to your router or modem (power off/on)
    If your still having beachball issues, what I suspect has occured (which a lot of people mistakenly do) is the hard drive got sectors damaged when the computer was moved/bumped while it was in operation.
    The fix for this (and anything else) is rather drastic, all user data off the Macintosh HD will have to be removed, the entire partition Disk Utility > Erase with Secure Zero (or middle selection option), OS X reinstalled and updated, programs reinstalled and files returned.

    TMG Microsoft Firewall Service Process (wspsrv.exe) high CPU.

    Please help me.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Since there can be multiple reasons for this issue, you can
    capture a manual dump of the wspsrv.exe process on TMG server or find some related logs to better analyze this issue firstly.
    In addition, what have you done before you encountered that issue?
    If you have any third-party programs installed, you can temporary disable them and restart the firewall service to see if the issue persists.

  • Safari hogging CPU and won't run

    Sorry for posting here, but I couldn't find the Safar for windows section.
    I run WinXP (fully up to date), with 2Gb RAM, (with one 1Gb on my gfx card), 1.8Ghz processor
    Having updated to the latest Safari I'm finding that it hogs CPU so much so that when I select a page from the top sites screen my PC locks up and I have to use the application manager to kill Safari.
    The same thing happens when I try to go to a website just by typing into the address bar.
    Anyone having similar issues, or able to help me out as to how to fix it?
    Thanks

    Try turning off plug-ins, java, javascript
    Empty history, caches, etc or go to where XP would store the application temp files, in Windows Vista/7 that is AppData\Local and \Roaming
    Disable or turn off extensions, 3rd party can break with any Safari update
    make sure you have current Flash etc
    I'd stick to Firefox or something - use NoScript, HTTPS Everywhere, FlashBlock, etc.

  • MDNS responder hogging CPU when connected to network

    Hi all.
    It seems whenever I'm connected to my work's network (either via wired or wireless) my mDNSResponder service starts hogging CPU. It generally starts at 0 and works its way up to 70-80% total CPU usage. I can kill it but within a few seconds it starts back up again.
    Any idea what the problem is or how to fix it? This has never been a problem in the past, and as far as I'm aware there have been no changes to the network.
    Thanks!

    My first psychic guess would be a messed up .cache, but...
    mDNSResponder (also known as mdnsd on some systems) is a daemon invoked at boot time to implement Multicast DNS and DNS Service Discovery.
    mDNSResponder listens UDP port 5353 for Multicast DNS Query packets.
    When it receives a query for which it knows an answer, mDNSResponder issues the appropriate Multicast DNS Reply packet.
    mDNSResponder also performs Multicast DNS Queries on behalf of client processes, and maintains a cache of the replies.
    mDNSResponder has no user-specifiable command-line argument, and users should not run mDNSResponder manually.
    To examine mDNSResponder's internal state, for debugging and disagnostic purposes, send it a SIGINFO signal, and it will then dump a snapshot summary of its internal state to /var/log/system.log, e.g.
    sudo killall -INFO mDNSResponder
    Also, not sure if this applies to OSX or not...

  • Isa 2006 wspsrv.exe high cpu load

    I have an ISA 2006 Server which run for 5 years without any problem. As the hardware is getting old now I have decided to change the Hardware to a new server but was unable due to the hardware to install Server 2003 which ISA runs only on this one as it
    is 32-bit. I then decided to install server 2008 R2 and install isa 2006 on a vm. Installed all updates patches on server 2008 and the 2003 running on VM, SP1 for ISA.
    Everything went fine, transferred the rules and Exchange and everything works fine.  However, every day, two days three days, very randomly and no systematically timeframe isa 2006 wspsrv.exe get a 99% high cpu load and then the service makes
    the internet to stop.  No internet access anymore, no ping by name or IP.  Rebooting the server fixes that problem until it happens again.  It also happens during different time when people are working or even during the weekend when noone is
    working on the system.
    I have no idea anymore what I could do next.  ISA is the only thing installed on the Server
    Any help would be appreciated

    Hi,
    The blog analyzed a scenario that the high CPU is caused by the third party driver. You could refer to the steps in the blog to troubleshoot this issue.
    Quote:
    What we can conclude here is that we have a condition where wspsrv.exe was allocating more and more threads without releasing resources (releasing threads) because it was getting stuck waiting for an answer from kernel driver.
    Some threads were working on I/O, mainly socket and LRPC call (almost socket) that run in Kernel mode. The third party driver is causing every AFD call to take more time and more CPU cycles, the fact that ISA is extremely using sockets amplify the problem.
    The third party kernel driver was uninstalled from ISA Server and the issue was resolved.

  • Distnoted.exe high cpu

    hello. i have noticed lately that when i open itunes on my laptop and then  closing afterwards the distnoted.exe in cpu usage is very high.almost 38%.is there any solution for this?

    This has been an issue for about a year at least for me and there have been complaints on it back when I first encountered it.   For some reason it is never addressed.
    I have learned to have the task manager open BEFORE closing iTunes.  It happens every time I close it out.
    What ticks me off more, is that distnoted is used with iPhones and iPod Touch devices and I have a iPod Nano with is not used for my iPod (according to what info I can dig up at other sites)  Why am I being hung up by a utility that is not needed for my apple device?
    If someone ever develops an alternative software package I can use to sync my iPod, I would drop iTunes over this.

  • Multithreaded EXTPROC.EXE and APEX

    Hi there. There's my problem:
    I've deployed c# function into DB and if I execute it directly (from SQL Developer by example) it works well.
    But asap as I wrap it around with "begin" and "end;" => trying to call it from pl/sql procedure it works as intended, but afterwards leaves extproc.exe in memory.
    so after many calls I've got lots of extproc.exe in my tray... and soon system slows down)
    what's the cause? pls help!

    Yep, I started multithreaded extproc via OraClrAgent, the procedure was deployed by ODT for .NET.
    The problem was in parameter shutdown_address: "KEY=listener_sid || agent_sid", I've used only listener_sid instead of union.
    now it works)
    my new problem, is ORA-28576: lost RPC connection to external procedure agent started appearing too often
    I suppose it's because of new session for each procedure call
    I've made a process - a loop of 10 iterations to try executing my stored procedure, with an exception for ORA-28576 wich executes the procedure once again:
    BEGIN
    v_seq := analytics.reportinput.nextval();
    v_counter :=0;
    while v_counter<10 loop
    BEGIN
    ANALYTICS.INTERNALL_CALL(:P13_SELECT_DAY,:P13_SELECT_MONTH,:P13_SELECT_YEAR,v_seq);
    :P7_X := v_seq;
    RETURN;
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN RPC_LOST THEN
    v_counter:=v_counter+1;
    END;
    end loop;
    END;
    my intention was to make that process 'scan' connection pool for an active session
    it works fine, but is there a better way to solve it?
