Extra buttons on hp dv9000 series

Hi everyone.
Did anyone manage to get the special keys (adjust volume,...) on a hp pavilion dv9000 (or dv6000) series notebook working. If so, how?
Another question: Is anyone able to adjust the brightness via fn+function keys on these laptops? Do I need to install a special package?
Thanks for any hints because these are the only two things missing that this notebook _just_ works.

[SOLVED] Extra Button in GNOME Status Menu

Hello,
I'm going to have to apologize right off the bat for this rather vague question, but I really don't have much to go on (yet). I've done a lot of Googling to try to figure this out but nothing has turned up so far.
Now that that's out of the way, here's the problem:
An extra button has shown up in my GNOME status menu. The image is a link to a (slightly) higher quality version. The button doesn't seem to do anything, except when I click it the icon changes to this:
A second click restores the first icon, and the cycle repeats. I'm running GNOME 3.14, and the icon showed up a couple weeks back while I was having a DE install-fest and trying out Cinnamon and KDE. As far as I can tell, it showed up around the time I set those up, but that could also just be a coincidence. Now that that adventure is through, Cinnamon and KDE have been uninstalled and I've done my best to rm any remaining config files. My second Arch machine has no such button (and has only ever run GNOME). Honestly, it doesn't make any practical difference, so I ignored it at first, but its unexplained existence has come to disturb me.
I've tried searching for others with a similar problem, looked at GNOME extentions that themselves add a button (such as https://github.com/arelange/gnome-shell … ate-status), and perused through the GNOME-shell source code in an attempt familarize myself with what was going on. I'm rather inexperienced with that sort of programming, so my endeavor was not as insightful as I had hoped. As a final act of desperation, I ran
pacman -S gnome
but of course, with no success. If anyone could point me in the right direction or offer suggestions, it would be very appreciated!

Ahh, yes, I think you are right. In fact, my relatively old and bulky Acer 5742 does have an accelerometer (presumably for HDD shock protection?):

I checked and the bma150 module wasn't loaded, so I went ahead and loaded it and started waiving my 5.7lb laptop around like a madman. No screen rotation, and I'm not sure how to read the raw input from the device, but I'm sure there are a plethora of reasons GNOME might detect an accelerometer and put a button there even if it isn't designed for this sort of input or properly configured or supported. If that's the case, there's no need to figure out how to get rid of the button, but I am curious if other people have similar experiences or perhaps the opposite (you can see an accelerometer but no button) just for some level of certainty this is the correct explanation. For starters, my other machine that does not have the button also does not have an accelerometer listed in /proc/bus/input/devices.

[SOLVED] G602 Gaming mouse extra buttons detected as keyboard keys

I have a Logitech G602 mouse with a bunch of extra buttons. I am familiar with xmodmap, xinput, xbindkeys, and easystroke.
If I use xev to test for input events, my back/forward buttons work like most mice- I get values of button 8 and button 9. However, when I use the other extra mouse buttons, I get IDENTICAL values to pressing 1, 2, or 3 on the keyboard respectively.
As an example, say I open a terminal. I can press these extra mouse buttons and it will "type" 1, 2 or 3 into the terminal just as if I had hit those numbers on my keyboard. If I hit shift, it will "type" !, @, and # just as if I had typed on the keyboard.
If I change the keycodes, I lose function of my 1, 2, and 3 keys. If I use xbindkeys to bind a command to the extra mouse buttons, pressing 1, 2, and 3 on the keyboard will run those commands!
The only thing I can think of is using a different keyboard layout, or that the mouse isnt supported at the kernel level (pressing extra mouse keys with X killed again "types" 1, 2, or 3) and I need to file a bug report somewhere. Where upstream do I file a bug report if this isnt fixable?
Any ideas at all?

For those with or looking to buy a Logitech G602, the answer is unfortunately Windows for a fix I had figured beforehand that it was some kind of assignment issue as I didnt see it possible for 2 different devices to be assigned the same keysym, but thats apparently due to my lack of understanding how such codes are assigned.
After reading the above response, I installed the Logitech software on a buddys windows computer and changed the (top 3) buttons to Shift, Alt, and Super- this allows me to use shift/alt/super + left/middle/right click for use within my wm (Openbox). This is a permanent change until you change it again, so at least you only need windows once.
I had searched around to see if anyone had this mouse working with Linux, but couldnt find any mentions. I can now at least confirm for others all the buttons will work and will be detected if you reprogram the mouse from windows. You can even reassign the battery check G6 button (which I did) and the DPI settings buttons near the left click (I left those alone for gimp work).
I tried Wine for the software without much hope, and indeed while the software installed fine, the program couldnt detect the mouse with it plugged in. It has been my experience that device detection in wine is a crapshoot at best. Anyways, problem solved..

DV9000 Series Bluetooth

Hello I noticed recently that there is a light next to the headphone and microphone jacks on my DV9000 series laptop and I was wondering what it was for and I have a question about the Bluetooth Module. First, is the light supposed to be a light for the Bluetooth meaning it is turned on? Mine never lights up and also my model (DV9408NR) in the drivers shows a driver for the Bluetooth but when I installed it it said it didn't detect any Bluetooth hardware. Is it just that my model didnt come with Bluetooth but it can be added in? I looked at the cards online and they look just like the wireless internet card so is Bluetooth and the Wireless internet integraded into the same hardware? Thanks!

No it uses a separate BT module which your laptop does not have:

There is no combo wifi/BT module approved for that unit so if you try to install one the system will not boot. You can use a usb BT module/dongle which I would actually recommend because you will get a more current version of the hardware that will be compatible with more bluetooth devices.

Pavilion dv9000 series ram?

I have an old Pavilion dv9000 series that has been gutted of all ram and the harddrive. This was my computer I carried with me while serving in Aghanistan and I want to get it running again. What type of ram and harddrive do I need to get it running again?

Most likely HP would have installed 2X512MB sticks and since the laptop has only 2 slots you will have to replace them both with either 2X1GB sticks or just get a 1X2GB stick.

Manually adding a Extra button in the application tool bar of the view cluster.

I have created a couple of maintenance view , and with this two maintenance view i have created a view cluster using the transaction SE54.
Now, there is default Application toolbar gets generated when a view cluster is created. (screenshot attached.)
Now i have a requirement where i can add another button (syntax Check button in the screenshot 2) in the same view cluster. (screenshot attached.)
Want to know the feasibility of this requirement.

Extra buttons on each row of a report?

Hi,
I would like to add multiple buttons in front of each row in a report.
When a button is pressed a Pl/SQL statement should run with access to the PK ID of that row.
Also, it is important that I can add other buttons as well (edit, delete etc)
What I want to accomplish, for example:
I want to have an add event button on each line of a scheduled production run, this should then branch to a new page on which first a hidden item (set to pk id) and visible item (pk info) is set to those of the row on which the button was pressed.
I hope that makes sense.

open the page, click the RPT link to the report column attributes of that region. choose the field you wish to alter (click the edit icon) then change under the "column link" section to an href. I have used a call to a javascript function in the URL box e.g. "javascript:show_the_page(#ADD#);" and included a javascript function within my app to handle this (read in PK and open a page in a new window with the PK as a variable)

HP Pavillion DV9705ea (DV9000 series) CD/DVD not showing - Cannot boot from CD/DVD - BIOS issues!

I'm having some issues here with a HP Pavillion DV9705ea machine (DV9700). I'm looking at this for a client. It had Vista home and it dropped the DVD - Wasn't in Device manager either. I checked the drivers and the Microsoft 'Fix It' man, which my client had used (Automated Troubleshooting Services) had put some random, unrelated driver in there. I removed the driver and restored the original, but to no avail.
After much playing within the OS, I managed to convince my client that a rebuild was a good idea - Both to fix this, and a great opportunity for a refresh. I managed to coax them into a Windows 7 upgrade, cool - Or so I thought.
I backed-up all of the data, popped the disk in and attempted to boot. Nothing. The machine is unaware of the DVD. Odd. I managed to ruin the Vista build on the HDD - This was partly because I was sure it was about to be wiped and partly because I wasn't exactly careful when moving data within it and powering it down incorrectly due to freezing! Academic, Vista is gone.
I attempted to boot the recovery manager, using F11 - This worked. However, it throws a zig-zag'ed, stripy screen at around 70%. Have tried this several times.
I booted from a USB HDD and ran a version of VistaPE to update the BIOS from 'F2; to 'F32'. Although this was a success, the DVD is still not recognised. I have used an independantly powered Lenovo USB CD/DVD Burner to boot from and have had no joy.
I took a second HDD, popped it into a different shell and built XP on it. I then put this in the Pavilion and booted - Got the message "Operating System Not Found". I have used my USB HDD again and booted a partition manager, I can see the HDD from here, no problems. I can also see them from VistaPE.
Going forwards - I am going to remove the DVD drive from the machine and attempt to boot from my external drive. I'm in abit of a corner at the moment as all roads arrive at the same destination - Fail.
I'm thinking 3rd party driver required? Any thoughts surrounding this would be helpful!
If anyone can shed any light on the issue, fantastic - If not, well, then it'll be an RMA for my client as this machine is out of warranty as of Feb 2009.

Its just to let you know that HP laptop are the worst in the world they have a Graphics chip error in almost every model especially in DV6000 and otherDV. Then, DVD/CD does not detect at all and its all motherboard hardware error. As, i do repairing myself I tried to resold all the joints for the connector for the DVD/CD it worked but as i took off DVD and replug it its as good as dead its motherboard failure.
Now, about cameras DV9000 have a very big issue for failure of builtin cameras i think these both problems have some common reason as both Builtin camera and DVD connector on same side of the MOBO.
Please help People save money and time. Stop them to buy HP. A sincere request.

after installing the drivers, i noted that the function button (fn) is not completely working
for example to rename a file or folder i usu. press fn+f2 but now it's not working? i don;t know why?
besudes, when i press the function button it usually gives me a bar on the top of the screen with all the functions
now it is not
how can i have it back?

Can you still access the Recovery Manager with the F11 key?
Option 1: You can install the original drivers from the recover manager.
Option 2: Do you have an HP Recovery disc set?
Disc #2 has all of the original drivers.

Is it possible to add a extra button to each separate slide of a slideshow?

I'm using a 100% width slideshow with text on each slide. I want a button 'read more' on each slide that links to the exact page. I know the button can be integrated in the text of the slide but i want it separate. To have a different colour and spacing. Can somebody help me?
For example I inserted an image. I know how to make the white box separate for each slide but i can't make the read more button separate for each slide.

Create your Read More box.
Highlight the end of you text inside your caption box.
Copy and paste your Read More box at the end of the text string.
You can move the white background up to separate it from the Read More box (see attached image).
You can also use the Wrap feature to move the box around.

Revealing extra buttons in a Rollover???

I am looking to create a button that will automatically reveal another 3 buttons as a rollover. When you highlight a button that is not within the 3 they should disappear. I understand that one way of doing this is to make another menu and have the rollover automatically link to the other menu showing the other buttons, but unfortunetly I need this to work on a laptop and doing it this way only seems to work on dvd players. It does work on the laptop in a sence, but to reveal the other buttons you need to actually click on the link rather then just roll your mouse over it.
Is there any way I can make this happen????

What you have you have described is the method that comes closest to making rollovers, no good/100% reliable way to do so - some players may respond to the rollover without clicking, some may not.

Updating extra songs to iPod 5 series

I am on to my second iPod. I have a new 80Gb 5-series... but it doesn't seem to work like my old 40Gb... when it comes to updating songs... or am I doing it wrong... or is there a problem.
I have some 20,000 tracks on there. I then add a new CD to iTunes Library with , say 10, tracks. A few days later I try to synch with my iPod... but it sits there saying "Do Not Disconnect"... & then removes all 20,000 tracks & reloads all 20,010 from scratch. WHY?? It takes me all day, just to add 10 tracks, as a result.
Any help?

Totally re-syncing like this isn't normal behaviour. Try restoring your iPod. Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists choose no and it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

GridBagLayout adding extra buttons on the second row

Here is a classic example of GridBagLayout taken from javadoc. I wonder is there a way I can have "Button6b", "Button6c" and "Button7" added to the same row as "Button6" and "Button6a"?

As for why we aren't able to add buttons to Question Slides,
only the Captivate developers know the answer. Perhaps there is a
technical issue involved.
About the only thing I can think of would be to insert an
image of the buttons in a disabled state. At least that may provide
some consistency for you.

Modifying extra buttons to a Control?!?!

I want to change a simple numerical control that has the increment/decrement buttons so that it has two sets of the increment/decrement buttons on. I want to be able to use one set for jumps of say the standard 1 unit but then the second set for smaller, say 0.1.
Is this possible, I've looked through the control editor with no luck?
If anyone knows that would be great.
If this cannot be achieved is it possible to speed up the increments when you press continuously on it because at the moment they are painfully slow?

Here's what i've done so far, but using three controls, two for the buttons and then they add together to write into the third control. Anyone got any way of making it so the buttons directly change control 3, i.e how it is each set of buttons have got to be pressed to get to zero.
Thinking about it the increment/decrement buttons could be bouleans which just add a number each time to the property node of the third control.Bit messy though

Dv9000 series - how to get into BIOS

How can I get into BIOS and how can I re-dedicate graphics memory-use there? (Maybe my other's post was too special...)

Oh, THAT's interesting to learn that chances are high, they either changed the whole mobo, or the system wouldn't run stable with damaged graphics memory...(An ugly one: would it be worth exchanging the mobo and do all that counterfeiting data just for the value of the old mobo???) Here's what I found so far: (I used "SIW System Information for Windows"-tool to get the following data, among a lot of other)- Serial-# matches my serial-# as per the original packaging, paperwork and bottom of the machine- Model 103C_5335KV (another way to denote the model KP964EA/dv9787eg?)- NVIDIA 8600M GS with (only) 256MB DDR2 64bits- dedicated video memory 239MB (251199488)- dedicated system memory 0MB- shared system memory 1279MB (1341353984)- Mobo is a Quanta 30CB 79.2E (no serial-# found/supplied by SIW!) I will check the hardware again by "reading out" data with Fn+Esc and/or CPUZ and GPUZ and report back (as said, I think the info there said KP964EA already - just to make sure)... Just for the guessing or "narrowing the problem down":IF my system was running on 256MB before already (and hp advertised wrong data for my rig) - so no change there - what else might cause my games running roughly now and be a reason for the dropped performance-index in windows?Possible that the graphics chip is able to perform with 256MB only and I would need another version of the 8600M GS which IS able to make use of the 512? (Guess no, as the above info TELLS me that there is only 256MB - and no 512MB - available, right?)CAN that be related to some software or driver?Would/might setting up windows anew (or changing from Vista to 7 for that matter) might bring me back to speed? Anyway, let me tell you that I VERY much appreciate your help on this - I am kind of lost on my own here, and I will try whatever I can to get back my "old" great-performing machine.
